It also specifies the method of calculating the implicit pension taxes. This calculation is applied to the model examples. The results determine whether the current pension scheme motivates individuals to remain in the labor market or whether it encourages them to retire.

CoordenaÃÃo de AperfeÃoamento de Pessoal de NÃvel Superior / In reservoir simulation, the compositional model is one of the most used models for enhanced oil recovery. However, the physical model involves a large number of equations with a very complex interplay between equations. The model is basically composed of balance equations and equilibrium constraints. The way these equations are solved, the degree of implicitness, the selection of the primary equations, primary and secondary variables have a great impact on the computation time. In order to verify these effects, this work proposes the implementation and comparison of some implicit and semi-implicit methods. The following formulations are tested: an IMPEC (implicit pressure, explicit composition), an IMPSAT (implicit pressure and saturations), and two fully implicit formulations, in which one these formulations is being proposed in this work. However, the literature reports some intrinsic inconsistencies of the IMPSAT formulation mentioned. In order to verify it, an iterative IMPSAT is implemented to check the quality of the IMPSAT method previously mentioned. The finite volume method is used to discretize the formulations using Cartesian grids and unstructured grids in conjunction with the EbFVM (Element based finite volume method) for 2D and 3D reservoirs. The implementations have been performed in the UTCOMP simulator from the University of Texas at Austin. The results of several case studies are compared in terms of volumetric oil and gas rates and the total CPU time. It was verified that the FI approaches increase their performance, when compared to the other approaches, as the grid is refined. A good performance was observed for the IMPSAT approach when compared to the IMPEC formulation. However, as more complex stencils are used, the IMPSAT performance reduces. / Em simulaÃÃo de reservatÃrios, o modelo composicional à um dos mais usados para a recuperaÃÃo avanÃada de petrÃleo. Entretanto, o modelo fÃsico envolve um grande nÃmero de equaÃÃes com uma complexa interelaÃÃo entre elas. O modelo à basicamente composto por equaÃÃes de balanÃo e restriÃÃes de equilÃbrio. A forma como essas equaÃÃes sÃo resolvidas como, o grau de implicitude, a seleÃÃo das equaÃÃes primÃrias, variÃveis primÃrias e secundÃrias tem um grande impacto no tempo de computaÃÃo. Com o intuito de verificar esse efeito, esse trabalho propÃe a implementaÃÃo e comparaÃÃo de alguns mÃtodos implÃcitos e semi-implÃcitos. As seguintes formulaÃÃes sÃo testadas: uma IMPEC (implicit pressure, explicit composition), uma IMPSAT (implicit pressure and saturations), e duas formulaÃÃes totalmente implicitas, das quais uma destas està sendo proposta neste trabalho. Os resultados de diversos casos de estudo sÃo comparados em termos das vazÃes volumÃtricas de Ãleo e gÃs e do tempo total de CPU. Verificou-se que as abordagens totalmente implÃcitas melhoram sua performance, quando comparado com os demais mÃtodos, a medidaque a malha à refinada. Um bom desempenho foi observado para as formulaÃÃes IMPSAT quando comparadas com a formulaÃÃo IMPEC. Entretando, com o uso de conexÃes mais complexas entre os blocos da malha, o desempho da formulaÃÃo IMPSAT reduziu.

Um estudo sobre os objetos cognatos e os adjetivos adverbiais no português do Brasil / A study about the cognate objects and adverbial adjectives in the Brazilian Portuguese

Neste trabalho, analiso o fenômeno conhecido como \"uso adverbial do adjetivo\" (ou \"adjetivos adverbiais\"). Tal fenômeno, comum no Português do Brasil (PB), ocorre em sentenças como A Maria falou claro (cf. A Maria falou claramente) e levanta a questão sobre o estatuto categorial do modificador, na medida em que este apresenta forma de adjetivo, mas comportamento de advérbio. Alguns autores afirmam que se trata, de fato, de advérbios: os adjetivos sofrem um processo morfológico chamado de derivação imprópria ou conversão, que consiste na \"transposição de uma palavra de uma classe gramatical para outra\" (Basílio, 2000: 60). Outros autores, como Carnie (2000) e Negrão, Scher e Viotti (2003), sugerem que adjetivos e advérbios constituem uma única categoria gramatical. Um dos argumentos usados pelos autores é o fato de adjetivos e advérbios desempenharem o mesmo papel na sentença: atribuem propriedades aos itens que eles modificam. Essas e outras propostas existentes na literatura têm bons argumentos a seu favor. Contudo, ao olharmos para os dados, todas essas propostas se tornam insatisfatórias, na medida em que nenhuma delas dá conta de explicar os seguintes fatos da língua: em alguns contextos, as formas adverbial e adjetival são possíveis (A Maria falou claro/claramente); em outros contextos, apenas a forma adjetival é possível (A Maria namora firme/*firmemente), e ainda em outros, apenas a forma adverbial (Os soldados resistiram heroicamente/*heróico). A partir de um modelo gerativista do estudo da linguagem, é pertinente investigar não apenas o estatuto categorial dos itens lexicais em questão, mas também o que há na estrutura subjacente dessas sentenças que determina o contexto em que esses itens podem ou não ser utilizados. Seguindo a proposta de Lobato (2005), proponho que os chamados adjetivos adverbiais são, de fato, adjetivos, na medida em que eles modificam um nome implícito na sentença nomeadamente, o objeto cognato relacionado ao verbo, ou um indivíduo denotado pela raiz do verbo, nos termos de Levinson (2006). De fato, os contextos de produtividade das construções com objetos cognatos eventivos (Leung, 2006) são os mesmos contextos de produtividade dos adjetivos adverbiais. Além disso, apesar das aparências, o comportamento dos itens lexicais em questão não é tão adverbial quanto parece: ao contrário dos advérbios, eles não flutuam na sentença, mas têm que ser, obrigatoriamente, adjacentes ao verbo. Outro fator é que, via de regra, eles não podem co-ocorrer com um objeto temático, o que deveria ser possível se esses itens fossem, de fato, adverbiais. / In this work, I analyze the phenomenon known as \"the adverbial use of adjective\" (or \"adverbial adjectives\"). Such phenomenon, common in Brazilian Portuguese (PB), occurs in sentences such as A Maria falou claro (cf. A Maria falou claramente) and raises a question about the categorial status of the modifier, since it presents adjective form, but behaves like an adverb. Some authors say that, in fact, they are adverbs: the adjectives undergo a morphological process called improper derivation or conversion, which consists of the \"shift of a word from a grammatical class to another\" (Basílio, 2006:60). Some other authors, such as Carnie (2000) and Negrão, Scher e Viotti (2003), suggest that adjectives and adverbs belong to an unique grammar category. One of the arguments used by the authors is the fact that adjectives and adverbs carry out the same role in sentence: they attribute properties to the items modified by them. These and other existing suggestions in literature have good arguments on their side. However, when we look at some language data, all these suggestions become unsatisfactory, since none of them can explain the following facts: in some contexts, both the adverbial and adjectival forms is possible (A Maria falou claro/claramente); in other contexts, only the adjectival form is possible (A Maria namora firme/*firmemente), and still in others contexts, only the adverbial form can appear in the sentence (Os soldados resistiram heroicamente/*heróico). Based on a generative model for grammar studies, it is necessary to investigate not only the categorial status of the lexical items in question, but also what there is in the subjacent structure of these sentences, that determines the context in which they can or cannot be used. In this work, I suggest that the adverbial adjectives are, in fact, adjectives, since they can modify either an implicit noun in the sentence, namely, the cognate object related to the verb, or, in Levinson (2006)\'s terms, an individual denoted by the same root as the verb\'s. In fact, the productivity contexts of these constructions with eventive cognate objects (Leung, 2006) are the same productivity contexts where one can find the adverbial adjectives. Besides, the behavior of the lexical items in question is not so adverbial as it looks: differenty from adverbs, they don\'t float in the sentence, but they are, obligatorily, adjacent to the verb. Another important factor is that, generally, they can\'t occur with a thematic object, what should be possible if these items were, in fact, adverbs.

Efeitos da atenção dividida na fase de recuperação da memória implícita

O objetivo geral da presente tese foi investigar possíveis efeitos da atenção dividida da memória implícita perceptual não-verbal e verbal, e conceitual na fase de recuperação. Foram realizados dois estudos teóricos e um empírico. O primeiro estudo teórico teve o objetivo de revisar sistematicamente pesquisas que avaliaram o papel da atenção em testes de memória implícita (priming de repetição) com o paradigma da atenção dividida, na fase de codificação ou de recuperação. Foram selecionados 31 artigos empíricos com base em critérios pré-estabelecidos. Concluiu-se que os primings, perceptual e conceitual, são afetados pela atenção dividida na codificação quando a tarefa secundária demanda mais atenção, isto é, quando exige resposta frequente e é apresentada sincrônica ao estímulo alvo de memória. Poucos estudos foram realizados na fase de recuperação e indicaram imunidade desses primings à atenção dividida. O segundo estudo buscou apresentar e discutir aspectos metodológicos relevantes à elaboração de experimentos usando priming de repetição, com ênfase na seleção de materiais (software, listas de estímulos normatizados para o Brasil e relevância de fatores psicolinguísticos) e manipulação de variáveis (calibração pré-experimental, instruções e tempo de exposição dos estímulos, por exemplo). Recomendações para pesquisas futuras foram apresentadas. O artigo empírico foi o terceiro estudo e incluiu três experimentos. Os experimentos exploraram o papel da atenção na memória implícita perceptual não verbal e expandiram os resultados com testes perceptual e conceitual verbal, avaliando os efeitos da atenção dividida em novas condições experimentais. O experimento 1 utilizou o teste implícito de completar fragmentos de figuras com uma tarefa secundária de julgamento de tons; o experimento 2 utilizou completar radical de palavra e o experimento 3, produção de exemplar da categoria, ambos com uma tarefa secundária de julgamento de sequências de consoantes. Os resultados evidenciaram que a memória implícita foi afetada pela atenção dividida nos testes de completar fragmentos de figura e produção de exemplar da categoria, enquanto completar radical de palavra foi imune aos efeitos da divisão da atenção. Coletivamente, os resultados indicaram que, sob algumas circunstâncias, memória implícita perceptual exige recursos atencionais na recuperação. Recursos atencionais são exigidos pela memória implícita conceitual, tal como hipotetizado na literatura. / The general aim of this thesis was to investigate the role of attention in nonverbal perceptual implicit memory and expand knowledge on perceptual implicit memory and verbal conceptual. Two theoretical studies and one empirical were performed. The first theoretical study systematized research that evaluated the role of attention in implicit memory tests (repetition priming) with the paradigm of divided attention in encoding or retrieval phase. A total of 31 empirical articles based on pre-established criteria. The conclusion was that the primings, perceptual and conceptual, are affected by divided attention in encoding when the secondary task demands more attention, that is, when requires frequent response and it is presented synchronously to the memory target stimulus. Few studies was conducted in the retrieval phase and indicated that the primings are immune to divided attention. The second theoretical study aimed to present and discuss methodological aspects relevant to the elaboration of experiments using repetition priming, with emphasis on the selection of materials (software, standardized stimuli lists for Brazil and relevance of psycholinguistic factors) and variable manipulation (pre-calibration experimental, instructions and exposure time of the stimuli, for example). Recommendations for future research are presented. The empirical paper was the third study and included three experiments. The experiments explored the role of attention in nonverbal perceptual implicit memory and expanded the results with perceptual tests and verbal conceptual, evaluating the effects of divided attention on new experimental conditions. Experiment 1 used the implicit picture fragment completion test with a secondary task of judgment tones; Experiment 2 used word stem completion and the experiment 3, exemplary production category, both with a secondary task of judgment consonant sequences. The results showed that implicit memory was affected by divided attention in picture fragment completion and category exemplar production, while word stem completion was immune to the effects of divided attention. Collectively, the results indicated that, under some circumstances, perceptual implicit memory requires attentional resources in recovery. Attentional resources are required by the conceptual implicit memory, as hypothesized in the literature.

A dimensional assessment of an implicit measure of emotion regulation

Emotion regulation has taken on a growing role in the study of psychopathology, both in research as a process, and as a part of a treatment. The interest in emotion regulation has led to an increase in the assessment of this construct, primarily with explicit measures of emotion regulation. However, explicit measures are limited in that they are retrospective, subject to response biases, and impacted by method effects. Further, explicit measures only assess single strategies of emotion regulation at a time. Implicit measures of emotion regulation are not subject to these limitations. One implicit measure of emotion regulation is Etkin’s Emotional Conflict Task, which conceptually follows the Stroop task. The current study utilized the Emotional Conflict Task, but examined psychopathology dimensionally instead of categorically. This allowed for more precise assessment of psychopathology and increased statistical power, without the loss of information inherent to categorical assessment. Until now, the Emotional Conflict Task has only been examined in a few clinical samples, and only with very small sample sizes. This study examined convergent and divergent validity of the Emotional Conflict Task as well as incremental validity over current measures of emotion regulation. Sixty outpatients with anxiety and mood disorders completed the Emotional Conflict Task and a standard battery of questionnaires, along with a semi-structured diagnostic assessment, as part of their intake assessment when presenting for assessment and treatment at the Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders. Convergent validity of the Emotional Conflict Task was assessed by correlating it with two explicit measures of emotion regulation. Next, hierarchical regression was used to examine incremental validity of the Emotional Conflict Task, specifically the amount of variability in functional impairment accounted for, as measured by the Work and Social Adjustment Scale. Finally, this measure was correlated with dimensional measures of psychopathology and temperament to assess the differential relations between these constructs. Results indicated that the Emotional Conflict Task did not correlate with explicit measures of emotion regulation, was not predictive of functional impairment, and was not correlated with dimensional measures of psychopathology or temperament. Potential causes for these null findings and future directions are discussed.

Turbulence particle models for tracking free surfaces

No / Two numerical particle models, the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) and Moving Particle Semi-implicit (MPS) methods, coupled with a sub-particle scale (SPS) turbulence model, are presented to simulate free surface flows. Both SPH and MPS methods have the advantages in that the governing Navier¿Stokes equations are solved by Lagrangian approach and no grid is needed in the computation. Thus the free surface can be easily and accurately tracked by particles without numerical diffusion. In this paper different particle interaction models for SPH and MPS methods are summarized and compared. The robustness of two models is validated through experimental data of a dam-break flow. In addition, a series of numerical runs are carried out to investigate the order of convergence of the models with regard to the time step and particle spacing. Finally the efficiency of the incorporated SPS model is further demonstrated by the computed turbulence patterns from a breaking wave. It is shown that both SPH and MPS models provide a useful tool for simulating free surface flows

Family Implicit Rules, Shame, and Adolescent Prosocial and Antisocial Behaviors

This exploratory cross-sectional study examined the relationship between implicit family process rules and adolescent prosocial and antisocial communication behaviors. Data came from two-parent families in wave 5 of the Flourishing Families project which consisted of 322 families (fathers, mothers and children ages 13-17). Both observational and questionnaire data were used in data collection. Prosocial and antisocial behaviors were assessed using observational codes from the Iowa Family Interaction Rating Scales (Melby, et al., 1998). Each of the family members' perceptions were used to assess constraining family rules and facilitative family rules. Findings showed a direct positive relationship between facilitative family process rules and pro-social communication and a negative relationship with antisocial communication. Constraining family process rules were also positively related to antisocial communication behaviors in adolescents. Shame was a significant mediator of the relationship between facilitative family rules and prosocial behavior as well as between constraining family rules and antisocial behavior. Implications for family therapy practice are discussed.

Understanding Implicit Bias in Public Defender Social Workers

Research has demonstrated that implicit bias is an inescapable part of the human experience that can have harmful repercussions. Its effects can be seen particularly in the criminal justice system where those of marginalized groups are disproportionately represented. Social workers in the public defender’s office representing indigent clients in the criminal justice system, implicit bias can negatively impact client outcomes or service access. This study sought to explore how these social workers understand implicit bias in their work and will be conducted using qualitative analysis through the use of interviews and document review. This research found that social workers in this setting identify in ways that are very different from their clients and view the resulting implicit bias as an important hurdle to overcome. Social workers reported that working with clients who are similar to them can increase rapport but also introduce issues of countertransference. When working with clients who are different from them, social workers found it most challenging to serve clients with worldviews they found personally offensive, such as homophobia or white supremacy. Social workers of more privileged identities found ways to leverage this advantage to best serve their clients. The participants in this study had mixed feelings on whether or not differences in identity between social workers and clients increase implicit bias or impact client outcomes. There are many larger factors that increase the risk of implicit bias, which participants feel can be mitigated with training and more diverse teams.

Primary Teachers' Knowledge and Beliefs as Predictors of Intention to Provide Evidence-Based Reading Instruction

Primary teachers in the United States accept responsibility for teaching children how to read, and the instruction they provide results in reading proficiency for approximately 37% of students. Although researchers have established a relationship between teacher-related factors and students' performance in reading, they have not yet been able to identify the combination of teacher characteristics that best predicts teachers' intention to provide evidence-based reading instruction. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among teacher knowledge, teacher beliefs, and intention to provide evidence-based reading instruction using a conceptual framework that integrated the theory of planned behavior with the implicit theory of intelligence. An online survey was used to gather data from a convenience sample of 37 primary teachers in the United States to examine characteristics effective reading teachers have in common. The results of multiple regression analysis indicated different patterns for different groups of readers. For beginning readers, teachers' behavioral beliefs was the only significant predictor of intention to provide evidence-based reading instruction. For struggling readers, teacher knowledge of reading disabilities was the only significant predictor of intention. This study provided additional evidence of deficits in teachers' knowledge of basic language concepts and reading disabilities. Identifying teacher characteristics that influence students' reading proficiency outcomes may inform efforts to improve professional development and teacher preparation programs to better support and prepare teachers to ensure successful reading outcomes for all children.
