Broken Promises – The Probable Futurity of the Laboring Class (Re‑Assessed)

Aßländer, Michael S. 02 February 2024 (has links)
Over the past two decades, work relations have changed dramatically. New phenomena like “gig-economy” or “crowd work” not only constitute precarious working conditions but also contradict with our social esteem of work resulting from the social theories of the classical economy of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The central focus of classical economists on building an educated and disciplined workforce provided not only the base for the upcoming industrial society but also resulted in a work-based society where “being employed” became the precondition for social security and social participation. It is the aim of this contribution to show how our positive attitudes towards work, established by the political economic theories of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, are jeopardized by the social changes in post-industrialized societies, due to the effects of globalized economies, digitalization and changed industrial relations. This has also far-reaching consequences for managerial theories based on conceptions like meaningful work or discussions about social responsibilities vis-à-vis employees as primary stakeholder groups.

Kompetenzzellenbasierte Produktentwicklung

Steiner, Ralf 12 December 2006 (has links)

Financial sustainability: measurement and empirical evidence

Gleißner, Werner, Günther, Thomas, Walkshäusl, Christian 04 April 2024 (has links)
Financial sustainability is underrepresented in both the research on and practice of sustainability management and reporting. This article proposes a conceptual measure of financial sustainability and examines its association with capital market returns. The measure is positioned at the intersection of sustainability management, risk management and risk governance. Financial sustainability is regarded as a crucial control parameter complementing shareholder value and can be viewed by riskaverse investors as a secondary condition of investment decisions. It reduces refinancing and insolvency risks, leading to risk-adjusted excess returns in an imperfect capital market with financing restrictions and insolvency costs. We propose measuring a firm’s financial sustainability in terms of four conditions: (1) firm growth, (2) the company’s ability to survive, (3) an acceptable overall level of earnings risk exposure, and (4) an attractive earnings risk profile. We show that the application of a conditions-based investment strategy to European firms with high financial sustainability (i.e., firms fulfilling all four conditions) over the period from July 1990 to June 2019 results in monthly excess returns of 0.39%. This portfolio’s risk is lower than the risk of market investment. We find that the excess returns increase when incrementally adding each of the four conditions to the investment strategy.

Arbeitsgestaltung bei Digitalisierung: Merkmale menschzentrierter Gestaltung informationsverarbeitender Erwerbsarbeit

Hacker, Winfried 04 April 2024 (has links)
Safety and occupational health in mainly information-processing mental work—increasingly with digital means and artificial intelligence—requires to implement the criteria of human-centered job design (EN ISO 6385/2016). This contribution regards human- centered design of the working process, not of its digital working means. Meeting the requirements mentioned is not restricted on the prevention of physical and mental disturbances, but considers the preservation and improvement of employees’ competencies, and enhances their well-being and performance, too. Generic requirements of preventive, condition-centered, and participative design of the allocation of functions between man and technology and of work organization are deduced, which meet the requirements of human-centered job design. Steps of the implementation process are outlined. A limitation in applying the offered suggestions on job design is their generic kind, necessary in view of the manifold information-processing working tasks. However, the required and well-tried participative, dual and iterative strategy of design will assist the transformation of the generic criteria. The central aim is to stress, that human-centered job design is inevitable in digitalized information-processing jobs, too: Digitalization cannot displace preventive human-centered job design, but does require it.

Von Schatten-IT zu Business-managed IT: Fachbereichs-IT gezielt gestalten

Klotz, Stefan, Kopper, Andreas, Westner, Markus, Strahringer, Susanne 06 June 2024 (has links)
Fachbereichs-IT, Schatten-IT, Business-managed IT. „Fachbereichs-IT“ subsumiert Schatten-IT und Business-managed IT.

Sustainability reporting of German healthcare companies: a comparison

Sassen, Remmer, Stoffel, Miriam, Braun, Vera 20 June 2024 (has links)
This study assesses the status quo of sustainability reporting by German healthcare companies. First, content analysis was conducted based on eight sustainability reports. Second, we developed case studies for three of those firms by investigating the further reporting environment. The results indicate that the specific business sector of a company does not influence its sustainability reporting level. Moreover, the case studies show a differentiated picture in regards to the sustainability activities of those companies. Most companies recognise sustainability as a subordinate part of their company values and often integrate substantial sustainability schemes. Only one company emphasises that sustainability has always been at the core of the company’s philosophy. To ensure a more transparent and sustainable development, this outcome indicates that new laws should not only require the creation of a sustainability report, but also regulate the formalities of it to derive a common standard.

In‑line monitoring of carbon nanoparticle epoxy dispersion processes

Meeuw, Hauke, Wisniewski, Valea Kim, Köpke, U., Nia, Ali Shaygan, Romaní Vázquez, Adrián, Lohe, Martin Rudolf, Feng, Xinliang, Fiedler, Bodo 29 April 2020 (has links)
The new generation of three roll mills is able to monitor occurring process loads while dispersion. This paper focuses on the interpretation of the gathered data to find criteria quantifying the dispersion state online. The aim is process time reduction. We used impedance spectroscopy to identify the dispersion state and correlated it with the occurring process loads. The dispersion process of a wide spectrum of carbon based nano particles, namely carbon black, single walled carbon nanotubes, multi walled carbon nanotubes, a few-layer graphene powder, electrochemically exfoliated graphite and a functionalized electrochemically exfoliated graphite was investigated. The filler content was varied along the material’s electrical percolation threshold. The criteria found led to a reduction of processing time and revealed the prevalent mechanisms during dispersion.

What energy management practice can learn from research on energy cultures?

Rotzek, Jan Niklas, Scope, Christoph, Guenther, Edeltraud 25 August 2021 (has links)
Purpose – This investigation aims to reframe the sizeable literature on barriers and drivers for energy efficiency measures and the phenomenon of the energy efficiency gap. We identified a gap between academic methods and industrial needs as well as a neglect of the cultural di-mension, despite its considerable impact. Based on this insight, the purpose of this paper is to integrate all of the various influences on industrial energy behavior previously identified in the literature in a refined energy cultures framework. Design/methodology/approach – This paper includes a systematic literature review of re-search in the field of energy management, energy efficiency, and cultural aspects within barri-ers and drivers of energy behavior. We selected and refined an existing energy cultures framework for the industrial context. To meet industrial needs, we applied an ontology map-ping of its core elements onto an international standard common for industrial energy man-agement practice. Findings – First, we present a refined framework for industrial energy cultures incorporating past barriers and drivers as factors. The framework enables an evaluation of attitude and be-havioral aspects, underlying technologies, organizational culture and actions related to energy as a system of interdependencies. Second, the factors are ranked based on number of appear-ances and empirical metadata. Economic aspects such as ‘Purchase, installment, and hidden costs’, ‘General investment and risk behavior’, and ‘Regulatory conditions’ are the highest ranked factors, but ‘Existing knowledge about EEM’, ‘Hierarchy approach: Top down’, and ‘Environmental concerns’ follow closely and represent cultural aspects which are still under-rated. Third, while illustrating a successful mapping onto a standardized process of continuous improvement, we also argue for heightened an academia-practice efforts. Social implications – Targeting the energy efficiency gap is an essential part of the sustainable development goals. The refined energy cultures framework allows for a better understanding of the industrial energy behaviors that are responsible for a significant share of a company’s success. The introduction of energy cultures serves as a starting point for future scholarly re-search within sustainability management accounting. Originality/value – The investigation combines existing research streams, their concepts, and their results about cultural aspects related to energy efficiency for both academics and practi-tioners. This review is the first to capture all of the various factors analyzed in academic litera-ture using the energy cultures framework as a basis. We add to the theoretical development of that framework with its application to the industrial context. This was identified as a gap. Its refinement helps to holistically understand barriers and drivers of industrial energy efficiency measures in order to support its practical implementation.

Process-Orientation and Core Competence Management – The Contribution of the Process-Oriented Core Competence Management to the Integration of the Market-based View and the Resource-based View

Walter, Fábio 30 June 2008 (has links)
The initial motivation of this work was the understanding that the two views of competitive advantage of strategic management - the Market-based View (MBV) and the Resource-based View (RBV) - need a theoretically structured combination. Moreover, another problem considered is the perception that the literature on process-orientation does not explicate its linkages with strategic management. Following these theoretical demands, this work offered a proposal that integrates the process-orientation into a model of core competence management (CCM).
