For the airline pairing problem using a run-cutting formulation. Computational results are reported for some real-world short-haul testproblems with up to 4600 flights per month. In particular, we evaluate the relative performance of simulated annealing, modified versions of the waterlevel algorithms proposed by Dueck, an elementary tabu search, and a GRASP approach. We find that the waterlevel algorithms compare well with simulated annealing and both improve on mere improvement heuristics by about 40%. Tabu search and GRASP do not yield competitive results here. Simulated annealing and the waterlevel algorithms also compare favourably with LP-bounds for a SET PARTITIONING formulation with knapsack constraints containing up to 3.9 million columns. A clustering parallelization of simulated annealing on a GigaCluster PowerPlus parallel computer exhibits an excellent speed-up.

Tjänsteutbud i stadsnät : Vilka faktorer påverkar utbudet?Kaloczy, Erik, Häggström, Daniel January 2006 (has links)

/
During the IT-era in the beginning of the 21st century high speed Internet connection for all citizens was on the top of the agenda. The Swedish government proposed a government bill stating that all Swedish citizens should have access to a broadband connection. The local municipalities were given the mission to build this new fiber-optic IT-infrastructure. The municipalities should adopt an open access network enabling all service providers to connect themselves to the network. The network should encourage competitive advantage and impartiality towards service providers resulting in increased service options for the citizens.

This master thesis investigates how the chosen business model affects the service offerings. We have also identified other factors that influence the development of service offerings. The result of this investigation concludes with a model that describes which factors that influences the growth of services in the municipal fiber network.

To get a deeper understanding of the studied subject have the authors conducted a web survey including qualitative and quantitative elements. The survey was sent to 90 municipal fiber networks. 71 % of these networks answered the questionnaire.

The result of this master thesis shows that the municipal fiber networks could be divided into two different groups. The first groups containing networks where the open access network is working and the other group where there is a lack of interest from the service providers. The lack of interest from service providers results in that municipal fiber network operators are forced to offer services themselves. The reason for this is often caused by an insufficient customer base.

In todays sociaty the use of information systems is wide spread and many corporations and buisnesses both in large and small spread make use of more advanced and sopisticated systems. Larger corporations have their own IT sections that maintain and updates their systems on a daily basis. They have the money and resources for it by how do the small businesses coop with it. How satisfied are the small businesses that are maybe runing on systems that might not be supplying the needs that the business is in need of. In this paper we investigate this question in the form of a questionnaire. The investigation is conducted in a selected part of the market in the swedish city of Växjö. The purpose of the investigation is to see how satisfied 30 businesses are with their information systems. The investigations background comes from a similar american investigation and it’s the papers purpose to compare the results that arose during the american studie with the swedish results to see what diffrences and similaritys there is. The investigation spans over 3 sector of bueisnesses, trade, service and consult. The investigation studies how these 3 sectors satisfaction relates to one and other, how satisfied and disatisfiedthey are in different parts of their IT systems.

This report examines the relationship between usability and subjective judgments about aesthetic and emotional aspects of users of a web production. Through the development of two prototypes that reflects different aspects of usability and subjective assessments examined the consequences of a differentiation of the concepts and Usability and Likeability. Thereafter, an evaluation of the two prototypes are made through user testing. Finally, the results of the evaluation is presented and are related to the concepts of usability and likeability.
