An investigation into the waiting list experience : exploring parents' views of children referred to a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service

Aims: The purpose of the qualitative study was to gain insight into the way parents experience and manage the waiting process following a referral to a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. The aim was to use the information for future service delivery and therapeutic engagement. Method: 6 parents whose child had been referred to a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service and had been waiting for more than eight weeks were recruited using a purposive sampling method and participated in a semi-structured interview. The interviews were transcribed and analysed using the principles of Pidgeon & Henwood’s (1992) grounded theory techniques, facilitating the development and refinement of a theoretical model. Results: The resulting model highlights the waiting experience as fraught by loneliness, abandonment and self blame resulting in an interchanging role of being active or passive and the subsequent cycle they subside into. Some parents use the waiting time effectively by searching for their own answers but may eventually become passive following a belief that their parenting is insufficient. The disempowerment and self blame that is perpetuated through waiting intensifies the parents’ helplessness and results in a wide disparity between a negative self view and the idealised view of the professional. Conclusion: This study described the difficult experiences parents face while waiting for their child’s initial appointment. Parents need to be offered support, information and empowerment while waiting with ongoing communication from the service. Recommendations for future service and clinical delivery are provided.

Παράγοντες προσδιορισμού της επιχειρηματικότητας αρχικών σταδίων

Στην συγκεκριμένη εργασία θα αναπτυχθεί το πώς οι συμμετέχοντες στο πρόγραμμα του ΟΑΕΔ, την Συμβουλευτική Ανάληψης Επιχειρηματικών Πρωτοβουλιών (Σ.Α.Ε.Π.), αποφάσισαν να δημιουργήσουν την δική τους επιχείρηση. Στο πρώτο κεφάλαιο γίνεται μία παρουσίαση της επιχειρηματικότητα και πως αυτή συνδυάζεται με την τεχνολογία και την καινοτομία. Αναλύουμε τις έννοιες, όπως είναι η επιχειρηματικότητα «ευκαιρίας, η επιχειρηματικότητα «ανάγκης», η «καθιερωμένη» επιχειρηματικότητα και η επιχειρηματικότητα «αρχικών σταδίων». Στο δεύτερο κεφάλαιο προσπαθούμε να αναλύσουμε τους παράγοντες που επηρεάζουν την επιχειρηματικότητα και πως αυτοί μπορούν να ενισχύσουν ή να φέρουν αρνητικά αποτελέσματα στην διαβίωση μιας επιχείρησης. Επιπρόσθετα, κάνουμε μία μικρή αναφορά για τον Ν. Αιτωλοακαρνανίας, τα δημογραφικά χαρακτηριστικά τα οποία έχει και φυσικά με την παραγωγική της δυνατότητα και δυναμικότητα. Στο τρίτο κεφάλαιο της συγκεκριμένης εργασίας αναλύεται η μεθοδολογία με την οποία πραγματοποιήσαμε την συγκεκριμένη εργασία και φυσικά τον τρόπο με τον οποίο αναλύσαμε τα δεδομένα μας. Επιπλέον, αναφέρουμε τα ερευνητικά μας ερωτήματα και αναλύουμε τους παράγοντες που καθορίζουν την επιχειρηματικότητα στον Ν. Αιτωλοακαρνανίας. Στο τέταρτο κεφάλαιο αναλύονται τα αποτελέσματα από την εξέταση των δεδομένων από το άτομα που συμμετείχαν στο πρόγραμμα της Συμβουλευτικής Ανάληψης Επιχειρηματικών Πρωτοβουλιών (Σ.Α.Ε.Π.) του ΟΑΕΔ. Παρατηρούμε ποιες είναι οι προτιμήσεις τους σχετικά με το κλάδο που θέλουν να δημιουργήσουν την δική τους επιχείρηση, πως η νέα επιχείρηση που θέλουν να ιδρύσουν έχουν σχέση με τις εκπαιδευτικές σπουδές που έχουν ολοκληρώσει (πρωτοβάθμια, δευτεροβάθμια και τριτοβάθμια εκπαίδευση), αλλά και την επαγγελματικής τους εμπειρία που ίσως μπορεί να είχαν αποκτήσει. Στο πέμπτο κεφάλαιο αναλύουμε τα συμπεράσματα μας από την ανάλυση των δεδομένων και των εύρεση των αποτελεσμάτων που είχαμε στο προηγούμενο κεφάλαιο. Θα κάνουμε τις δικές μας προτάσεις στο πως τελικά θα πρέπει ίσως οι νέοι να βλέπουν την δημιουργία της δικής τους επιχείρησης, αλλά και ποια θα πρέπει να είναι τα δεδομένα που θα πρέπει να αναλύουν πρώτα τόσο οι ίδιοι, όσο και το κράτος σε ότι έχει σχέση με την ενίσχυση της νέας επιχειρηματικότητας ή της επιχειρηματικότητα «αρχικών σταδίων», με την οποία ασχολούμαστε κυρίως. / In this study it will be developed how participants in the program of ORGANISATION FOR THE OCCUPATION OF THE WORK FORCE, Advisory Undertaking of Enterprising Initiatives (S. GNP), have decided to create their own enterprise. The first chapter presents business dexterity and how this is combined with the technology and the innovation. We analyze the significances, as are the business dexterity of “occasion, the business dexterity of “need”, the “established” business dexterity and the business dexterity of “initial stages”. In the second chapter we try to analyze the factors that influence the business dexterity andhow these can strengthen or bring negatively results in the existence of enterprise. Additionally, we make a small report for the Etoloakarnania, its demographic characteristics and its productive possibility and capacity. In the third chapter is analyzed the methodology of this study and the data analysis. Moreover, we report our inquiring questions and we analyze the factors that determine the business dexterity in the N. Etoloakarnania. In the fourth chapter are analyzed the results from the examination persons that participated in the program of Advisory Undertaking of Enterprising Initiatives (S. GNP) the ORGANISATION FOR THE OCCUPATION OF THE WORK FORCE. We observe their preferences with regard to the sector that want to create their own enterprise, how the new enterprise they found has relation with their educational study (first degree, secondary and third degree education), but also their professional experience that it perhaps can they had acquired. Finally we analyze our conclusions from our data analysis. We will make our own proposals on how young people supposed to see the creation of their own enterprise, but also what should be the data that should be analyzed first not only by them but the state also in relation to the aid of new business dexterity or business dexterity of “initial stages”, with which we dealt mainly.

Naudojant spektrofotometrinį metodą tirtas ADH IIG reaktingumas su skirtingais mediatoriais ir įvairiais alkoholiais. Nustatytos tariamųjų kinetinių parametrų KM ir Vmax reikšmės, bei paskaičiuotos katalitinės ir bimolekulinės alkoholių oksidacijos bei mediatorių redukcijos reaktingumo konstantos. Tirta FERO ir ABTS oksidacija katalizuojama L95 lakaze. Gautos pradinių reakcijos greičių priklausomybės nuo substratų koncentracijų. Rezultatų analizei pritaikius Michaelio-Menten lygtį, gautos tariamųjų KM ir Vmax reikšmės, iš kurių buvo paskaičiuotos katalitinės ir oksidacinės konstantos. Pamatuotos pradinio reakcijos greičio priklausomybės nuo buferinių tirpalų pH ir jų komponentų, bei nustatytos optimalios substratų oksidacijos reakcijos pH reikšmės. Naudojant deguoninį elektrodą buvo registruotas deguonies sunaudojimas vykstant L95 lakazės katalizuojamai FERO ir ABTS oksidacijai ir paskaičiuotas pradinis reakcijos greitis bei sunaudoto deguonies priklausomybės nuo substratų koncentracijų. Registruotas ir deguonies sunaudojimas vykstant ADH IIG katalizuojamai alkoholio oksidacijai ir lakazes katalizuojamai mediatoriaus (antrojo qADH substrato) regeneracijai. Darbą sudaro 6 dalys: įvadas, literatūros apžvalga, eksperimentinė dalis, rezultatai ir jų aptarimas, išvados, literatūros sąrašas. Darbo apimtis – 85 p. teksto, 50 paveikslų, 8 lentelės, 109 bibliografiniai šaltiniai. / Reactivity of ADH IIG with different mediators and various alcohols were investigated by spectrophotometric method. Values of apparent kinetic parameters KM and Vmax were determined, catalytic and bimolecular alcohols oxidation and mediators reduction reactivity constants were calculated. The FERO and ABTS oxidation catalysed by L95 laccase were investigated. The initial reaction rate dependencies on the substrates concentrations were obtained. The analysis of the results was performed by applying Michael-Menten equation and the values of apparent KM and Vmax, as well as catalytic and oxidation constants were calculated. The dependencies of the initial reaction rate on the buffer solutions pH and their components were measured also the optimal pH of the substrates oxidation reactions were determined. The oxygen consumption was registered L95 laccase catalysed oxidation of FERO and ABTS by oxygen electrode and initial reaction rate was calculated, as so as oxygen consumption dependences on substrate concentrations. The oxygen consumption ADH IIG catalysed oxidation of alcohols and laccases catalysed regeneration of mediators (second qADH substrate) were registered. Structure: introduction, 3 chapters, conclusions, references. Thesis consist of: 85 p. of text, 50 pictures, 8 tables, 109 bibliographical entries.

Cette thèse traite des problèmes associes à la théorie de grossissement de filtration. Elle est divisée en deux parties. La première partie est consacrée aux temps aléatoires. On étudie les propriétés des différentes classes de temps aléatoires du point de vue du grossissement de filtration. La deuxième partie concerne l'étude de stabilité de condition d'arbitrage sur le grossissement de filtration. On se concentre sur la condition No Unbounded Profit with Bounded Risk. Dans un premier temps, on étudie l'absence d'arbitrage dans le cas de grossissement progressif avec un temps aléatoire. Puis on regarde le grossissement initial avec une variable aléatoire qui vérifie l'hypothèse de Jacod.

企業初次公開發行(IPO,Initial Public Offering)向來是股票市場炙手可熱的話題之一,在財務經濟領域中,探討股票初次上市發行的相關議題更是多如過江之鯽,而關於IPO期初報酬率影響因素之探討更可溯及至1970年代。本研究主要係探討台灣初次上市企業期初報酬率的影響因素及影響情形,並以2005年承銷新制上路以後、直至2011年的初次上市企業為研究對象,除利用傳統的最小平方法觀察影響期初報酬的因素外,有鑑於期初報酬率普遍具有右偏分配的現象,本研究亦輔以分量迴歸分析法觀察影響期初報酬的因素,經由分量值的變動,可將解釋變數影響被解釋變數的各種情形加以估計出。再來,本研究在探討期初報酬率影響因素之基礎上,以分量迴歸分析法尋找出交易準則,並進一步檢驗當投資人遵循交易準則下,是否得以獲取顯著異於同期間大盤指數之報酬績效。在上市首日買入並持有至第五日收盤賣出之案例中,以分量迴歸結果所設定之交易準則並無法為投資人帶來顯著優於大盤指數之報酬水準;然而,在上市首日買入並持有至第二十日收盤賣出之案例,以分量迴歸結果所設定之交易準則卻可為投資人帶來顯著優於大盤指數之報酬水準。總體而言,本研究試圖將近年影響台灣企業IPO期初報酬率之因素加以剖析,進而從中尋找一些潛在規則,讓投資人得以一窺初級市場的變化及其所可能帶來之潛在獲利良機。

Initial public offerings and board governance : an Australian study

In March 2003, the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) released new corporate governance guidelines, which included debatable “best practice” recommendations such as the adoption of an independent board and separation of the roles of chairperson and CEO. Given the premise that strong corporate governance enhances shareholder value and, by extension, increases initial public offering (IPO) issuers’ appeal to investors, this thesis assesses the level of conformity by a sample of Australian firms, which made an IPO between 1994 and 1999, with the best practice recommendations. We also examine the relationship between firm outcomes (including IPO underpricing, post-IPO long-run performance, and the likelihood of a SEO) and board governance quality, captured by board composition, board leadership, board size and share ownership of directors. These outcomes are addressed as they are important dimensions of firm performance that may be reasonably assumed to be associated with the quality of corporate governance, and these tests can provide an insight into the preference of investors who arguably are best placed to assess the appropriateness of the recommendations promoted by the ASX. Further, we analyse changes in IPO firms’ board structures from the time of listing to five years later to determine if IPO firms adopt governance structures that are more in line with the best practice recommendations after listing and if the changes are related to IPO firms’ long-run performance. Overall, we find that IPO firms that arguably have the strongest incentive to adopt the “optimal” board structures diverge substantially from ASX’s recommendations both at the time of IPO and five years later. IPO firms’ board structures are found to be unrelated with the level of IPO underpricing and board size, after controlling for the size of the firm, is significant in explaining both long-run aftermarket performance and the probability of a SEO. IPO firms with larger boards and those that increase the board size after listing are found to perform better in the long-run. However, contrary to expectation, smaller boards are associated with a higher likelihood of equity reissuance. Overall, the results lead us to question the role played by the board of directors in signalling firm quality. Our findings also suggest that ASX’s best practice recommendations are likely to distort the market-driven practices already in place.

The Diversity of FHF-mediated Ion Channel Regulation

<p>Fibroblast growth factor homologous factors (FHFs) are noncanonical members of the fibroblast growth factor family (FGFs, FGF11-FGF14) that bind directly to voltage gated sodium channels (VGSCs), thereby regulating channel activity and consequently neuronal excitability. Mutations in FGF14 cause spinocerebellar ataxia while FGF13 is a candidate for X-linked mental retardation. Since FGF13 and FGF14 are nearly identical within their respective VGSC-interacting domains, those distinct pathological consequences have generally been attributed to regional differences in expression. I have shown that FGF13 and FGF14 have non-overlapping subcellular distributions and biological roles even in hippocampal neurons where both are prominent. While both FHFs are abundant in the axon initial segment (AIS), only FGF13 is observed within the soma and dendrites. shRNA knockdown and rescue strategies showed that FGF14 regulates axonal VGSCs, while FGF13 only affects VGSCs in the somatodendritic compartment. Thus, FGF13 and FGF14 have nonredundant roles in hippocampal neurons, with FGF14 acting as an AIS-dominant positive regulator and FGF13 serving as a somatodendritic negative regulator. Both of these FHFs also perform important non-VGSC regulatory roles. FGF14 is a novel potassium channel regulator, which binds to KCNQ2 and regulates both localization and function. FGF14 is also capable of serving as a “bridge” between VGSCs and KCNQ2 thus implicating it as a broad organizer of the AIS. FGF13, on the other hand is involved in a new form of neuronal plasticity called axon initial segment structural plasticity. Knockdown of FGF13 impairs AIS structural plasticity and reduces L-type CaV current through channels known to be important to this new form of plasticity. Both of these novel non-VGSC roles are specific to the FHF in question because FGF13 does not regulate KCNQ2 whereas FGF14 knockdown does not affect AIS position. These data imply wider roles for FHFs in neuronal regulation that may contribute to differing roles in neural disease.</p> / Dissertation

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Learning to be a teacher, as well as learning to read, to love, to eat, are learning that materialize through the experiences we had in our lives. Not "born" with the gift or vocation to be a teacher, but teaching the subject is constituted from a context of social relations and certain processes identity. The process of teaching identity can be understood as a form of construction of teaching, make up the teaching of social relations through which the subject establishes with the university, school, with peers, with teachers, with the formation and actions of oneself in this way, the objective of this study was to analyze the relationship of formative actions of Physical Education CEFD/UFSM with the constitution of the process of teaching identity of future teachers. To accomplish this research, which is characterized by a qualitative approach, the case study, we used two (2) instruments of data collection: a semi-structured interview and focus group. Participants were six (6) teachers and six (6) students from CEFD/UFSM. From the analysis of the information were drawn four (4) categories: 1) On the process of teaching identity, 2) Facilitating the process of teaching identity, 3) Barriers process of teaching identity and, 4) Possibilities for the process of teaching identity occurs. In the first category, about the concept of teaching identity the points listed circulated through the identification and characterization work, which will give the subject individually, but also collectively. Regarding the second category, can be identified as facilitators of the construction of the teacher restructuring the course curriculum; actions and faculty, involvement in extracurricular activities, for example, participation in core / study groups research and extension. In the third category, as barriers, the main points of the departed not review the curriculum; (not) identification of some teachers, not closer to reality and school, no student dedication. About a fourth category, such possibilities were listed several suggestions for possible "improvement" of these barriers, such as creating a pedagogical coordination, teaching and sharing, a new curriculum project. From all this study, one realizes the importance of formative actions of initial training courses for the construction of the teacher and, especially, the importance of the meaning given to these actions, as well as the commitment to learn aroused by each academic. / Aprender a ser docente, assim como aprender a ler, a amar, a comer, são aprendizagens que se concretizam através das experiências que passamos em nossas vidas. Não se nasce com o dom ou vocação para ser docente, mas sim o sujeito docente é constituído a partir de um contexto de relações sociais e de determinados processos de identização. O processo de identização docente pode ser entendido como forma de construção da docência, do fazer-se docente através das relações sociais que o sujeito estabelece com a universidade, escola, com os colegas, com os professores, com as ações de formação e consigo mesmo, desta maneira, o objetivo deste estudo foi analisar a articulação das ações formativas do curso de Licenciatura em Educação Física do CEFD/UFSM com a constituição do processo de identização docente dos futuros professores. Para realizarmos esta pesquisa, que se caracteriza por ser de abordagem qualitativa, do tipo estudo de caso, foram utilizados dois (2) instrumentos de coleta de informações: a entrevista semiestruturada e o grupo focal. Os participantes foram seis (6) professores e seis (6) acadêmicos do CEFD/UFSM. Da análise das informações foram traçadas quatro (4) categorias: 1) Sobre o Processo de Identização Docente; 2) Facilitadores do Processo de Identização Docente; 3) Barreiras do Processo de Identização Docente e; 4) Possibilidades para que o Processo de Identização Docente Ocorra. Na primeira categoria, a respeito do conceito de identização docente os pontos elencados circularam a partir da identificação e caracterização profissional, a qual vai se dá pelo sujeito de maneira individual, como também, coletiva. Em relação à segunda categoria, podem-se identificar como facilitadores da construção do ser professor a reestruturação curricular do curso; as ações docentes e; o envolvimento em atividades extracurriculares como, por exemplo, a participação em núcleos/grupos de estudo pesquisa e extensão. Na terceira categoria, como barreiras, os principais pontos partiram da não avaliação do currículo; (não) identificação de alguns professores; não aproximação com a realidade escolar e; não dedicação discente. Sobre a quarta categoria, como possibilidades foram elencadas várias sugestões para uma possível melhora destas barreiras, tais como: criação de uma coordenação pedagógica; trabalho docente compartilhado e; um novo projeto de currículo. A partir de todo este estudo, percebe-se a importância das ações formativas dos cursos de formação inicial para a construção do ser professor e, principalmente, a relevância do significado dado a essas ações, bem como, o comprometimento com o aprender despertado por cada acadêmico.
