La structuration de la phénoménalité : temporalité, trace, événement (Heidegger, Derrida, Nancy) / The Structuration of Phenomenality : temporality, Trace, Event (with Heidegger, Derrida, Nancy)

Zangeneh, Hakhamanesh 10 March 2009 (has links)
This thesis begins with Heidegger’s theory of temporality in part II of Sein und Zeit. While reading it as a novel form of transcendental philosophy in the strict sense, we show, contrary to commentators, that it describes multiple temporalisations and thus multiple notions of presence. The most original notion of presence, however, contains an a-phenomenal and relational core, and this amounts to describing a structuration of phenomenality. In a next step, we examine early texts of Jacques Derrida where, in analyzing Husserl and Heidegger, the author first sets out the idea of a metaphysics of presence. Rather than reading these texts as a critique of Heidegger we show how they can be understood as an extension of our Heideggerian problematic: the notion of différance and of the written trace supply us with a particularly linguistic and writerly description of the archaic structuration. This also allows us both to respond in a novel fashion to open questions immanent to Sein und Zeit, and to suggest a previously unseen distinction running through Derridean deconstruction. The grammatological moment in deconstruction is a response to the question of temporality. Finally, we show how the recently popular discussion of the event can also be read as a thematisation of phenomenality, and specifically in the theory of Jean-Luc Nancy, how such a theory can avoid the facile metaphysical concepts of presence. By supplementing Nancy’s distensive event with a series of explicit historical glosses we show how it sketches out an original event-conception quite compatible with our interest in the structuring of phenomenality

Proč klesá spotřeba instantních potravin? Analýza determinant poptávky / Why Does the Instant Food Consumption Decline? Analysis of Demand Determinants

Pazdera, Martin January 2014 (has links)
There has been a significant decline in instant food market. I investigate the determinants of demand for instant food in this thesis. Oligopoly market structure motivates me to investigate the demand for instant food produced by particular firm. I use yearly and quarterly scanner data for instant food sales on the retail market in Czech Republic in the empirical part of the thesis. The yearly data analysis finds healthy diet trend as a possible cause of instant food market decline. According to quarterly data analysis I find instant food as an inferior good with income elasticity -0,6295. Both these factors can affect stagnant or decreasing revenues of instant food producers. Analysis of demand for instant food produced by particular firm illustrates strong relation between demanded quantity of producer's instant food and prices of his own and competing production. This indicates that price increase is not an optimal strategy in order to stabilize revenues of instant food producer.

Factors influencing brand preferences for instant foods: A comparative study between Sweden and Bangladesh

Huq, Tahreen, Sarker, Imran Mahmood January 2020 (has links)
Aim: This study aims to investigate the factors that influence consumers' brand preferences for instant foods focusing on the graduate-level students of Sweden and Bangladesh. Methodology: The research applied a qualitative approach. Semi-structured online interviews were conducted with ten graduate-level students from Sweden and Bangladesh. The collected primary data were transcribed and analyzed using thematic analysis by comparing with the literature reviewed within distinct themes. Findings and Conclusion: The main findings of the study are (1) culture, and religious values have a significant influence on Bangladeshi consumers compared to consumers in Sweden; (2) Quality plays a predominant role in determining instant food brands in both countries as it can have a direct effect on the health; (3) Eye-catchy packaging creates fascination among consumers' about a brand in both countries; (4) Price is considered as a critical factor due to limited purchasing power of Bangladeshi consumers'; whereas in Sweden, consumers' are ready to compromise with the price if they could get a superior quality. Theoretical implications: This study has developed a theoretical model that shows the effect of culture, marketing communication, brand elements, price of the brand, brand image and brand availability on consumers' brand preferences in Bangladesh and Sweden. The findings divulge the quality and packaging of a brand could play a tremendously important role in consumers' brand preferences apart from other factors. Managerial implications: The study could help managers to be accustomed to cultural values through standardization and adaptation. The research could add insights for the managers while setting the price of a brand as it has considered as a critical factor. Appropriate quality assurance is sufficiently necessary, which was reflected by the current study and will help managers while determining quality. Limitations: Only two countries were included in the study, which is considered as a limitation and challenging to apply in other countries due to cultural differences. The focused group was graduate-level students who are also a shortcoming, and it could therefore not be generalized to have implications for consumers of other age group and occupation. Suggestions for future research: A quantitative study with a more significant number of respondents in more than two countries is suggested for future research. Future research can also be carried out by consumers buying preference on other food items. Keywords: Brand preference, Instant foods, Cultural influence, Sweden, Bangladesh.

Čas / Time

Grúňová, Nina Unknown Date (has links)
Directions, where my practical part of thesis lead me, is preset moment "now", its understanding in different disciplines and also empiric examination of collision between the time of inside quality and time, which has set independent scale into our world - chronological time. Motive for choosing such topic is mainly my own experience, but it is also reaction to contemporary tendencies in art scene, which (by my opinion) are turning away from present. The outcome of this interest is a video Uchopit okamžik/hold the moment ( 08'30 '' , 2016) filmed at studio keying screen accompanied by audio commentary. The second video Natáhnout okamžik/extend the moment ( 01'00 '', 2016) is a video recording of my own experience with time. I came out from my own experience and also resources and nonfiction of the phenomenological texts by authors such as Emmanuel Lévians or Jan Sokol.

Instant Gratification and Culture of Academic Disintegrity: Implications of Trinity Paradigm of Intelligence in Developing a Culture of Integrity

Ghaffari, Masoud 01 January 2009 (has links)
In today's fast-paced, instant-gratification-oriented society, everyone is looking for quick fixes. We want it all and we want it now! This mindset is in conflict with the overall process of education and learning which requires time, reflection, and practice. More and more students are entering colleges and universities with weak academic preparation and deficient life skills. This often leads them to engage in unethical practices in order to compete, get ahead and survive academically. Declining academic integrity is a significant issue on almost all college campuses. The purpose of this study was to gain deeper insight into student nurses' perceptions of the concept of instant gratification in general and in nursing education in particular. The implications of the Trinity Paradigm of Intelligence in developing a culture of integrity were also explored. The emerged data supports the notion of "academic disintegrity" as a social problem with a long history of development.

The use of instant messaging applications among swedish students and their security awareness

Tesfazion, Henok January 2020 (has links)
Instant Messaging Mobile (IM) applications are now ubiquitous and predominant in most person-to-person communications, especially intimate and sensitive conversations. This growing popularity of instant messaging is linked directly to the characteristics of speed, immediate and convenience that an IM holds which is a strong appeal for anyone that wants to communicate and collaborate in real-time with others. However, it is these features including presence awareness (the ability for IM users to know who is online and available), group chats, share media, links, and stream content as well as text and voice messages, that exposes the IM apps to the concerns of privacy and security. This essay aims to study the behavior of higher education students towards privacy and security as it concerns the use of instant messaging applications when communication informally and formally. To gather the desired data, a quantitative survey was created and distributed electronically at the University of Skövde in Sweden. Through the statistical analysis, this study presents the attitude of the participants towards the security and privacy of mobile IM applications. In conclusion, this report showed that the behavior of Swedish students towards digital security and privacy and the use of mobile IM applications were of low concern but not alarming. The analyzed results give a fair picture of the reasons for the choice of IM apps, the uses of the apps and the participant's knowledge about security and privacy. While there was some level of concern about who else could read messages sent via these IM devices between intended parties, the decision of which IM app participants had a preference for was not driven by privacy or security concerns. Furthermore, the majority of the participants believed that communicating with the IM app could be used for purposes other than informal messaging. This is significant because the student population will become part of the workforce soon and will handle sensitive, proprietary, and confidential information.

Characteristics of Spoken and Written Communication in the Opening and Closing Sections of Instant Messaging

Nishimaki, Kenta 23 January 2014 (has links)
This study examines opening and closing segments in instant messaging (IM) and demonstrates how openings and closings differ between oral conversation and instant messaging as well as the factors that account for the difference. Many researchers have discussed the differences and similarities between spoken and written languages. Tannen (1980) claims that spoken and written languages are not distinct categories and there is a continuum between them. She also holds that interpersonal involvement is one of the factors that determine if a particular communication is closer to spoken communication or written communication. I will analyze IM, which is best thought of as a communication mode that resides in the middle of the continuum between spoken and written language. Beißwenger (2008) studied the turn-taking of IM and argued that contributions to instant message dialogues are achieved as individual tasks rather than through interactions between participants. He holds that the nature of the individual tasks provides the most important characteristic which distinguishes IM from oral conversation. Closings in IM were studied by Raclaw (2008), who found two patterns of closing: one is an expanded archetype closing which is similar to oral conversation, and the other is a partially automated closing which is totally different from oral conversation because an automated message terminates the conversation. He did not discuss the characteristics underlying the two patterns of closing in instant messaging. I reanalyzed the argument by Raclaw utilizing a segment of instant messaging from my data, and discovered that what characterize the two patterns of closing in instant messaging are the nature of interpersonal involvement and the nature of the individual tasks. These reflect the characteristics of spoken and written communication respectively. In this study it was found that characteristics of IM communication fluctuate between spoken and written communication. Instant messaging resides in the middle of the spoken and written continuum, but whether it exhibits characteristics of spoken or written communications can vary depending on the way participants contribute to the conversation.

The effect of technology-based instant messaging applications on employee engagement

Govind, Priya Mahilal Mistry January 2021 (has links)
This quantitative study examines the interaction between technology-based instant messaging applications (technology applications) and employee engagement. Technology applications are frequently used as a mode of communication between managers and employees. Internal communication is cited as an antecedent of employee engagement and employee engagement is positively correlated with productivity and organisational success. Hence, the study is directed at understanding the impact of communication technology on employee engagement, due to the indirect link between internal communication and organisational success. In the current context of the global Covid-19 pandemic, this topic is of renewed interest as leaders and employees grapple with new ways of working and communicating. The existing literature provides contradictory conclusions on the relationship between technology use and employee outcomes. A quantitative, deductive approach was adopted to measure (i) the relationship between the frequency of use of technology applications (independent variable) and the antecedents of employee engagement (psychological climate, affective commitment, perceived supervisor support), (ii) frequency of use of technology applications as a moderating variable on the relationship between the antecedents of employee engagement and employee engagement (meaningfulness, safety, availability) and (iii) frequency of use of technology applications as a moderating variable on the relationship between the employee engagement and the outcomes of employee engagement (discretionary effort and intention to turnover). The correlation test revealed a weak correlation between frequency of use of technology applications and the antecedents of employee engagement. The moderated regression analysis revealed that frequency of use of technology applications does not moderate the relationship between (i) the antecedents of employee engagement and employee engagement (meaningfulness, safety, availability), and (ii) the relationship between the employee engagement and the outcomes of employee engagement (discretionary effort and intention to turnover). The findings have relevance for academic research and practical implications for managers. / Mini Dissertation (MBA)--University of Pretoria, 2021. / Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) / MBA / Unrestricted
