Lantz, Susanne January 2012 (has links)
Special education and abilitygrouping in mathematics have not shown a great effect (Bentley & Bentley, 2011; Giota & Emanuelsson, 2011) and our Education Act (2010:800) argues that students should be taught in the frame of the class. The study was based on this knowledge, which was conducted with 21 students in their second year for nineteen lessons. The aim was to see if intensive teaching has any effect on students´ procedural fluency of counting addition and subtraction within the numberrange 0-20. The study was conducted as an experimental design of fieldexperiments and the methods in the study were participant observation, fieldnotes and diagnoses. The observation and the fieldnotes show an example of how structured intensive teaching can be planned and the results of the diagnoses indicate that structured intensive teaching in aritmetic in an inclusive perspective has a positive effect on students´ procedural fluency.

: En interventionsstudie på högstadiet / Can intensive practice with digital tools affect students number sense and motivation? : An intervention study in Secondary School

Reimendal, Kristina, Svennberg, Solweig January 2015 (has links)
Can intensive practice with digital tools affect students number sense and motivation? – An intervention study in Secondary School. / Can intensive practice with digital tools affect students number sense and motivation?  – an intervention study in Secondary School.   The starting point in this study is the negative consequences difficulties in mathematics may have on the individual student, who leaves primary school without passing there math grades. Important factors to succeed are good number sense and motivation to work with mathematics.   The purpose of this examine is to notice what effect intensive training has on number sense and the motivation to work with mathematics, by using the web based training program Mattelek Flex. The study was made as a case study, concluded interventions, interviews and observations. Five SEM-students, as in the beginning of the study were in the eighth grade, participated. To examine the interventions effects on the number sense, a test was made before, directly after and after a summer breake. The used test was test 6 in “Förstå och använda tal (McIntosh, 2008). The interventions effects on the motivation were made visible through interviews and observations. They were analysed based on some influencing factors by Jenner(2004).   The result shows that, working with Mattelek Flex strengthens the students number sense and the effects of the computer increases the motivation.

Attention! Prêt? On s’enTraine!

Séguin, Marilou 01 1900 (has links)
On s’enTraine! On s’enTraine! / Attention dysfunctions following traumatic brain injury (TBI) frequently complicate the return to activities of daily living and negatively influence professional and socioacademic reintegration. Yet, clinicians in rehabilitation settings have limited access to cognitive remediation protocols for which efficacy has been demonstrated and that are adapted to French populations. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the intensive attention process training program « Attention! Prêt? On s’enTraine! » (Séguin, Lahaie & Beauchamp, 2012) based on a French adaptation of the « Attention Process Training-I » program (APT-I; Sohlberg & Mateer, 1987). Over five weeks, 17 participants who sustained TBI and demonstrated attention deficits received either the attention process training intervention (n = 8) or homework assistance (n = 9). Following the intervention, the experimental group improved on functions targeted by the « Attention! Prêt? On s’enTraine! » program, specifically, visual scanning, visual selective attention and attentional shifting. They also showed significant transfer gains on related tasks including measures of working memory, inhibition, mental flexibility and visuoconstructive planning. The demonstration of a positive effect of an intensive attention training program on attentional performances after TBI is likely to support and reinforce the development and validation of French cognitive remediation protocols, ultimately leading to improvements in the prognosis for individuals with TBI.
