An lmprotance-Performance Analysis of Hotel Selection Factors in Kaohsing International Hotels:Study of Mainland Chinese and Japanese Travelers

Cheng, Shih-Jang 16 July 2006 (has links)
The main source of the international hotel guests are mostly comprised of the travelers from foreign countries; and among those foreign travelers, the Japanese are always in the highest rank to Taiwan and become the most important market. On the other hand, since Mainland China has liberalized the Chinese for sightseeing abroad, the travel industry all over the world are widely opening their arms and try to absorb this big cake. Taiwanese tourism industry as well has been preparing and standing by the arrival of the Mainland Chinese for the recent years. This is the reason why the study will focus on these two major markets of traveler and take a close look to see that when selecting the international hotel in Kaohsiung, whether it will be affected by the different culture, traveling attitude, social or economic back-ground etc., so as to compare the importance of hotel facility and service quality in the perception of guest¡¦s recognition and satisfaction, a comparison of the difference. The IPA (Importance-Performance Analysis) along with SWOT analysis are applied to analyze the selecting factors of Mainland Chinese and Japanese travelers to six international hotels in Kaohsiung. Those factors are categorized into 6 groups : 1. service quality; 2. business facilities; 3. value; 4. room & front desk; 5. food & recreation; 6. security; A questionnaire is formed according to this format and 700 copies has been printed. This survey was conducted from 8th, Mar. to 8th, Apr. in 2006, and finally returned with 161 valid in Japanese and 116 valid in simplified Chinese, the rate of valid returned is 39.5%. The results of the analyses come out as follows: To both Mainland Chinese and Japanese travelers, Kaohsiung International Hotels remain few strengths, there are only two items of strength, i.e. IDD service is available. & Hotel provides comfortable ambience. Kaohsiung International Hotels should take serious considerations to enforce their strength in competition to improve higher occupation rate, i.e. for Mainland Chinese travelers, High quality in-room temperature control; for Japanese, High quality in-room temperature control. and Hotel F&B is value for money; those improvements will promote travelers¡¦ satisfaction.

An exploration of the role of the construct of control in expansion strategy of hotel chains: A multiple-case study

Ghorbal-Blal, Ines 02 May 2008 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to explore the management of expansion strategy in the hotel industry using the control approach as presented in the literature of organizational theory. This integration illustrates that the management of risk in expansion strategy is intertwined with control. The question “How does control intervene in the management of risk in expansion strategy?” was the operationalization of the overarching question of strategy and structure. The answers to this question are summarized in a framework and four propositions. The contribution of this work to academia is threefold. First, this work provides a detailed, theories-driven documentation about how expansion strategies are conducted in the international hotel context. Second, this research integrates three different fields of research and directs to multiple new research tracks in both fields of strategic management and organization theory. Third, this study offers a new approach to measure the alignment between strategy and structure. From a managerial standpoint, this research offers guidance for the comprehension of the determinants of risk in the expansion strategy for international hotel chains. / Ph. D.

The Impact of Chinese Tourists on International Hotel Industry in Kaohsiung

Chen, Li-chun 07 July 2011 (has links)
Since the two side of SEF and ARATS started the meeting again in Beijing in JUN 13th 2008, completed two issues of both weekend Direct air links between Taiwan and China and the people visit Taiwan from mainland, in july 4,2008, the first group came to Taiwan as tourists from mainland. Those tourists, not only bring lots of good business but also been very helpful to our sightseeing industrial Because of those reasons, I decided to discuss : 1.what are the real effects to our tourist business by allowing tourists from mainland? 2. which parts of Taiwan are really gets benefits from them? So in this thesis, only discuss the international tourist hotels. we find out lots of ideas by survey from the internet and, and also understand what the government think about the policy of allowing tourists from mainland by developed of passed issues and policy. The international tourist hotels are the most been helped and gets benefits in this situation by allowing tourists from mainland, we found out the increase of room average, at the same time, hotel stuffs also got the strong feeling about tourists from china bring lots of benefits to them, although they also bring lots of problems in rooms, food and language, but we still found out more benefits than that in this issue. we hope Kaohsiung will become the biggest model of all by allowing tourists from china, and by the changing of the government policy, make the flight in both come and out in Kaohsiung become regular, we believe in the future of Kaohsiung tourist business will be better, not only the hotels been helped but also the economic of Kaohsiung will be better.

International hotel groups and regional development in Central and Eastern Europe

Niewiadomski, Piotr January 2012 (has links)
While it cannot be questioned that we live in an era of unprecedented, often conflicting and turbulent changes, which, alongside their outcomes, are commonly referred to as “globalisation”, some processes of economic globalisation still remain largely under-researched both in sectoral and geographical terms. Conducted from the perspective of economic geography, this thesis addresses two significant research lacunae in economic geography – one sectoral (the hotel industry) and one geographical (Central and Eastern Europe). The paucity of research on services in general and tourism and the hotel sector in particular (the sectoral gap) is especially pronounced with regard to the CEE region (the geographical gap). Meanwhile, the globalisation of the service sector which, further to the collapse of the communist system in 1989, has also embraced CEE is seen to have a growing impact on the (re)integration of the CEE countries into the global economy. Concurrently, the importance of the CEE market in the globalisation of services is also constantly increasing. Thus, as the first systematic study of the international hotel sector in the CEE region, the thesis makes an important contribution to the understanding of the globalisation of the hotel industry (and the globalisation of the service sector) both in theoretical and empirical terms. The thesis focuses on the spatial expansion of international hotel groups into Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) after 1989 and its main objective is to describe and explain the interactions between different forms of corporate development of international hotel groups and the processes of regional growth in different institutional contexts in CEE. The thesis is mainly qualitative. It is based on two intersecting comparative case studies – one organisational (all hotel groups from the world’s Top 50 that are present in CEE, i.e. 23 groups) and one territorial (three CEE countries – Poland, Estonia and Bulgaria). Grounded in the global production networks (GPN) perspective (Henderson et al 2002), the thesis investigates what can be called two “dimensions” of globalisation of the hotel industry (Coe and Ward 2007). Thus, apart from exploring the geographical expansion of international hotel groups into CEE (the horizontal dimension) the thesis also focuses upon the embeddedness of hotel groups in the variety of socio-political and institutional contexts currently emerging in CEE in place of state socialism (the vertical dimension). With regard to the horizontal dimension, the thesis argues that the spatial distribution of international hotels in CEE is shaped by two sets of factors – hotel groups’ strategies of expansion and the varying opportunities for the hotel sector development that different markets in CEE can offer. With regard to the vertical dimension, in turn, it is contended that the degree to which each economic, political or social characteristic of a given post-communist context influences the expansion of hotel groups hinges upon the business model preferred by the hotel group. By the same token, the degree to which the group can foster regional growth in a given territory hinges upon the level of embeddedness of the group in that territory which, in turn, is reflective of the business model employed by the hotel group with regard to a given hotel.

The number of studies concerning companies' internationalization has increased in the past years. This increase occurs largely due to the adequacy of theories that deal with the subject to the dynamics of the service sector, and these were originally designed to explain the foreign investment of industrial companies. Such phenomenon occurs due to the growth of the importance of the tertiary sector in world economy and, mainly, the incorporation of several services in all the productive chains of the industry. These production structures accompany the international division of labor, with specific stages distributed by countries according to their productive competencies. This distribution was made possible, among other factors, by the decrease in international transportation costs, which led to an increase not only in world trade flows, but also in international tourism activity. Tourism, in turn, is an activity that requires several services, such as hospitality. The large companies that provide hotel services have also adopted the strategy of international expansion in recent years, but their dynamics differs from other service companies due to heterogeneity of the tertiary sector. Thus, this work intends to explore the explanatory capacity of internationalization theories, as well as the possibility of adapting them to the real market dynamics, considering the strategies of international hotel chains in Brazil. It is verified that the internationalization theories have limited explanatory power for the hotel industry. In order to answer such questions, two objectives were raised: to analyze the entry strategies of international hotel chains in Brazil, and, later, to structure an analytical framework that comprehends the peculiarities of the studied segment. The work, which uses a qualitative approach within multiple cases study, is initiated with the characterization and dimensioning of the service sector and the hotel segment through bibliographic review and survey of activities. The data used in this research are collected from Smith Travel Research (STR Global), corresponding to the 15 largest hotel chains based on their hotel numbers and type of operation/entry strategy, with a total sample of 1872 hotels. For the internationalization theories and strategies referential, a literature review is structured based in books and articles, synthesizing its main elements, making possible the effort of qualitative analysis between its fundamentals and the collected data.

Обеспечение качества сервиса: инструменты, проблемы и управленческие решения (на примере отеля "Park Inn by Radisson Ekaterinburg") : магистерская диссертация / Service Quality Assurance: Tools, Problems and Management Solutions (Case Study of the Park Inn by Radisson Ekaterinburg Hotel)

С., Romanova, A. S. January 2020 (has links)
Park Inn by Radisson Ekaterinburg / The relevance of the topic is caused by new trends in the hotel industry, where now it is not enough to be just a good hotel. You have to be the best. And it is important to pay attention to such a thing as quality of service. Purpose of the study: analysis and improvement of the quality of service in the hotel Park Inn by Radisson Ekaterinburg To achieve this goal, the following tasks were completed: studied literature on the research topic; characterized the internal corporate standards of the Radisson Hotel Group aimed at providing high quality service; characterized the internal standards for ensuring the quality of service at the Park Inn by Radisson Ekaterinburg "; analyzed the projects developed by the author aimed at improving the quality of service; an analysis of guest reviews was carried out for the quality of service. For a detailed study of the subject of research, the following tools were used: sociological experiment and questionnaires. Maintaining high service and improving it constantly takes a lot of time and attention. These are continuous trainings, maintaining and updating hotel standards, developing new projects and much more. Therefore, the position of "Service and Quality Manager" was introduced in the hotel specifically for the detailed study of the provision of service for all services provided in the hotel. I occupy this position, and within its framework I was engaged in carrying out activities to improve the service. Semantic analysis of guest reviews showed that the service at Park Inn by Radisson Ekaterinburg is of a high standard and the guests rated it significantly higher than material indicators. Service is an integral part of the hospitality industry. Each stage of the guest's interaction with the hotel should not be overlooked. The Park Inn by Radisson Ekaterinburg is a modern international hotel that understands the importance of providing quality service to its guests and is actively improving it. In a highly competitive environment, it is not enough to ensure that service standards are adhered to correctly. It is necessary to stay ahead of the guest's expectations. Providing high-quality service means continuous work on analyzing guests' opinions, tracking new service trends, working with changing consumer needs and constantly developing new projects to attract and retain guests.

Student evaluation of career readiness after completing the hospitality management curriculum at the International Hotel School

Conradie, Ronette 02 1900 (has links)
The primary purpose of this study was to determine how the current hospitality management curriculum at The International Hotel School contributes to students’ preparedness from their own perspectives. Generic and curriculum specific skills that can be used for curriculum evaluation were identified, a framework of curriculum variables to rate the level of student preparedness was developed, the effectiveness of the hospitality management curriculum from the perspectives of students’ perceptions of preparedness was analysed, and the aspects that contribute most to student preparedness were identified through a literature study and an empirical investigation. The findings were summarised and it was recommended that The International Hotel School needs to review the hotel and restaurant accounting course and the experiential learning components. Furthermore, lecturers of The International Hotel School should receive training on the implementation of more interactive course content delivery methods. / Educational Studies / M. Ed. Utilité et comparabilité de l'information sectorielle : application aux groupes hôteliers internationaux et à leurs analystes financiers / Usefulness and comparability of segment information : applications to the international hotel groups and their financial analysts

Demerens, Frédéric 08 July 2011 (has links)
International accounting harmonization aims to improve financial reporting quality in order to enhance its usefulness. In this context, we study the usefulness and the comparability of segment information. Our research is mainly qualitative – analysis of annual reports and analysts’ reports contents - , hotel industry based and IAS/IFRS versus US GAAP focused. First, we address whether segment information is useful for financial analysts assessing usefulness through its use and its link with forecasts’ precision. Second, the research deals with the evolution of normalized segment information comparability and with the comparability of segment voluntary disclosures reported by international hotel groups. We find that, mainly because of the heterogeneity of disclosure practices, both usefulness and comparability of segment information remains incomplete and perfectible in the international hotel industry.

Social factors influencing the success of adult learners: examining the use of online learning programmes at a higher education institution in South Africa

Chesterton, Catherine Ann 06 1900 (has links)
This study presents a quantitative investigation of the influence of various social factors – including finances, secondary school attended, resources available, culture, and family support – on the perceptions of success (in terms of academic performance and skills gained) of adult learners who are using online learning as the primary educational medium. The research was conducted with 100 students of The International Hotel School in South Africa. A quantitative research methodology was followed and a survey questionnaire was used as the data collection method. The data from closed-ended questions was analysed using Statistical Analysis System (SAS), with the data from open-ended questions being used to aid in the interpretation of the information organised quantitatively. Findings suggest that certain social factor constructs namely: finances, secondary school preparation for tertiary education, and internet accessibility, significantly impact the perceptions the students have on being successful in online learning. Some recommendations that spring from the study are to provide more funding to students, better access to more suitable resources and providing students with unlimited access to the internet for longer periods of time. It is also recommended that a follow-up study with a larger and more varied sample (possibly including public sector tertiary education students), and more questionnaire items per social factor is necessary to cast further light on the impact of social factors on adult students’ online learning experiences. / Educational Studies / M.
