Training reflections-an ecosystemic exploration.

Dlamini, Mavis 30 November 2005 (has links)
This study is qualitative in nature. It reflects on the rich and varied experiences I encountered during training to be a psychotherapist. The content and process information around training is explored. My personal biases and prejudices towards training are made explicit. The experiences reflected upon are contextualized within the Unisa academic and the hospital clinical internship training contexts. The two contexts of training are contrasted accordingly showing their epistemological stance in their contribution to training of trainee therapists. The primary data in this research is the trainee researcher who is also the only participant subject in the study. The rest of the data is drawn from the experiences of the subject in interaction with others in different systems and subsystems. Through the creative synthesis step in the heuristic research approach the inferred theme is integrated in the analysis. Finally the research shows the limitations and implications involved. / Psychology / M.A. Psychology

Furthering the education of young adults : an analysis of Statistics South Africa's internship programme

Van der Berg, Gwendoline Hilary 02 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to analyse the effectiveness of Statistics South Africa's internship programme in developing the statistical skills of interns. A mixed method approach which included semi-structured interviews, document study and electronic questionnaires was used to gain insight into the thoughts and perceptions of 38 participants. The study revealed that many of the crucial elements for a successful internship programme are present in the current internship programme. It was also found that the interns do not get the opportunity to implement or utilize their skills in the areas in which they are being placed. The absorption and retention strategy also seems to pose a challenge for the internship programme of which the goal is to retain as many statisticians as possible. Finally, a proper absorption strategy, better and more formal assessments, and a higher salary level for interns being absorbed into the organization should also be considered / Language Education, Art and Culture / M. O estágio no contexto dos processos formativos dos professores de matemática para a educação básica: entre o proposto e o vivido / The internship program in the context of formative processes for math teachers for basic education: between the proposed and the experienced

Dauanny, Erika Barroso 15 May 2015 (has links)
The object of study in this doctorate research is the supervised internship in the university initial training for teachers of Basic Education. Its main purpose is to understand the contribution of the internship program in the context of formative processes for Math teachers. Based on how several authors (CHARLOT, 2008; SAVIANI, 2009; FREITAS, 2012; FIORENTINI, 2010) understand the reality of todays schools, it is necessary to have an educational background that considers the teacher as a reflective critical intellectual (PIMENTA, 2008). From that point of view, the internship is considered as a theoretical and practical activity, an investigative attitude that involves research, analysis, questioning, reflection and the proposition of solutions about teaching and learning, about the teachers work and the institutional practices in their social, historical and cultural contexts (PIMENTA, 2009b; PIMENTA; LIMA, 2010). The empirical basis of the research was the undergraduate course at the Mathematics and Statistics Institute of the University of São Paulo, which, according to the Teacher Training Program at USP (PFPUSP, 2004), is held in joint project with the College of Education. The methodological approach was for a qualitative research supported by quantitative data (BOGDAN; BIKLEN, 1994; LÜDKE; ANDRÉ, 1986; MINAYO, 2012a; 2012b). The tools used for data collection were documentary analysis, observation, questionnaires and interviews. The data collected were analyzed based on the theoretical benchmark for understanding the internship program as a formative process. The strategy of triangulation of methods was adopted to investigate the same issue combining quantitative and qualitative methods (TRIVIÑOS, 1987; MINAYO, 2005; 2013). According to the study it is possible to affirm that the actions that are being developed at the university in order to find the specificity of teacher formation, in particular those related to the internship in the formation of Math teachers, have enhanced the formative possibilities as well as brought new dilemmas and challenges. The main results show that the subjects responsible for the internship, which develop it with activities that promote reflection and try to find the unity of theory and practice, have strongly contributed to the training of future teachers. However these spaces are limited and get lost amid the fragmentation of activities, the lack of articulation between disciplines and between specific contents of the teachers action area and didactic-pedagogical contents. There is an absence of a continuous and collective evaluation and reflection over the developed training action and there is a lack of clarity and collective appropriation of concepts that should be privileged for the formation. The conclusion is that, in order for the internship program to establish itself as a significant formative process, it is necessary to: clearly explain the teachers concept aimed to form and the concepts related to it, such as the internship program itself; increase of opportunities for the reflection on the activities during the internship; the collective and coordinated action of all disciplines and therefore of the internship mentor teachers; promote collective and continuous evaluation and reflection of the developed formation activities, always based on the teachers concept aimed to form; develop processes and activities guided by collective, collaborative and dialogic social relations.

INTEGRAÇÃO ENSINO-SERVIÇO NA FORMAÇÃO DE RESIDENTES MULTIPROFISSIONAIS EM SAÚDE NA PERSPECTIVA DO DOCENTE / TEACHING-SERVICE INTEGRATION IN FORMATION OF MULTIDISCIPLINARY HEALTH RESIDENT IN THE TEACHING PERSPECTIVE

Mello, Amanda de Lemos 22 January 2016 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The Multidisciplinary Residences Program in health search to transform the pratics of public services of Brazilian Health through of the formation in service of professional according to the principles of the Health Unic System. For this, it s necessary the involvement of the professionals in formation with the workers in service and the teachers of educational institutions in order to integrate the scientific knowledge, theoretical and practical. Thus, this research aimed to analyze the conception of teachers of a Multidisciplinary Residence Program in health about the teaching- service integration in the formation of residents; know development and the strategies used by teachers of the Multidisciplinary Residence Program in health to propose actions of teaching-service integration in the formation of residents formation; identify difficulties and facilities in the teaching-service integration actions in the formation of residents of the Multidisciplinary Residence Program in Health. This is a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive research survey of thirteen teachers acting in the Integrated Multidisciplinary Residence Program in Public Health in a city of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The data were collected in the period from March to July 2015 through systematic observation and semi-structured interview. After this, the data were transcribed and analyzed by operational analysis proposed by Minayo, wich allows the generation of three categories: Teaching- Service Integration; dialectical movement in the learning process; between the plots of the development of teaching-service integration; and the teaching-service integration in residents formation: difficulties and facilities. The ethical aspects of research with humans beings was respected according to Resolution 466/12 of the National Health Council. The results showed that the teachers conceive the teaching-service integration as a strategy for the meaningful learning and also to practice for building knowledge. Moreover, to the development of this integration is necessary to understand the role and the importance of each instance involved and the role of the residents, teachers and tutors, as well actualize the relationship between graduate students and residents. It concludes that teaching-service integration provides conditions and learning for the resident and everyone involved ins this relationship. However, it requires continuous reflection and clear and co-responsible pacts that encourage the educational process according to the public health policies.

The impact of internship programme on skills development in selected government departments in Limpopo Province

Mabeba, Selaelo John January 2021 (has links)
Thesis (MPA.) -- University of Limpopo, 2021 / In developing countries like South Africa, a skills shortage is already one of the most important problems of the twenty-first century. Consequently, South African public institutions have adopted an internship programme to enhance skills development, knowledge and experience, concentrating on a particular population. An internship, as established by the South African Cabinet in December 2002, is a graduate work experience programme aimed at unemployed graduates aged 18 to 35. Therefore, the study assessed the impact of the internship programme on skills development in selected government departments in Limpopo Province. Secondary to the aim, the study explored the nature of internship programme and skills development in public institutions. It also evaluated the link between an internship programme and skills development and concluded by highlighting challenges and opportunities for an internship programme. The researcher used a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods, with semi-structured questionnaires for current and previous interns, to achieve the study's goals. Face to face interviewing method was used to collect data from public officials in the three selected government departments in Limpopo Province - Department of Education (DOE), Provincial Treasury, and Department of Sport, Arts and Culture. Although public institutions are regarded as hosts of internship programme, pitfalls associated with the internship programme in the South African public institutions persist. The study found, to a large extend, a huge impact of internship programme on skills development in the three selected government departments in Limpopo Province. The study further established that not all participants were clear with the job description of the internship programme. The imprecise job description could confuse interns as they would not know their expected daily performance in government departments. The study argues that such may result in displacement and a lack of sense of belonging among interns within their respective government departments. / (Services SETA)

SUPERVISORS' INFLUENCE ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF PSYCHOTHERAPIST TRAINEES (THEORETICAL ORIENTATION, VALUES).

GUEST, PAUL DAVID. January 1986 (has links)
Supervision of psychotherapy constitutes a major component of the professional training undertaken by individuals pursuing careers in clinical psychology. The empirical literature has only recently begun to address the impact which supervision has on the development of its recipients. The present study explored relationships between changes in the theoretical orientations and personal values of therapist trainees and the theoretical orientations and values of the training faculty who provided them with supervision during a one year training program. Trainee theoretical orientation and personal values were assessed at the beginning and at the end of the training program for three successive training years, yielding a trainee sample N of 16. Follow-up assessment of theoretical orientation was obtained from this sample three to five years after they had completed this one year program. Background characteristics assessed included measures of personality functioning, locus of control and prior clinical experience. Parallel data were collected from 11 supervisory faculty. Regression analyses assessed the extent to which changes in trainee orientations and values could be predicted on the basis of the perspectives held by their supervisors. Trainees were found to enter the program with a positive bias toward psychoanalytic and experiential forms of therapy and a negative bias toward cognitive-behavioral therapy. Through the follow-up assessment this psychoanalytic orientation was maintained and consolidated. Trainees also became more accepting of cognitive-behavioral treatment and less supportive of experiential therapy. While supervisors' orientations were generally found to be unrelated to changes in trainee orientation during the training period, follow-up data suggested that supervisors had influenced the orientations currently held by former trainees. Changes in orientation were found to be unrelated to trainee background characteristics or level of prior clinical experience. Current findings suggested that trainee perceptions of supervisors' influence were related to supervisor status within the training program. Trainees entered the program with value systems that were similar to those of their supervisors. These values did not change substantially during the course of training. Trainee personality characteristics were more frequent predictors of those value changes which did occur than were supervisor values.
