This work analyzed a teacher-training course, Pedagogy, in the city of São Paulo, to confront theoretical aspects of the necessity of initiating an interdisciplinary posture in the orientation for initial teacher education. For this, it was made a bibliographic review, utilizing authors focused on themes about Teacher Education, Interdisciplinary Subjects, Curriculum and Supervised Practice Internship, in addition to field research, where I utilized the fieldnote as data collection tools, in which I registered the routine of the classes observed of the course. A five-question questionnaire was applied with the aim of reflecting about the ideas of the theory and practice developed in the course. During the analysis, it was possible to observe the difficulty students in pedagogical training have in relating theory with practice, using as an argument the lack of stimulus, the observed practice in formation and the perception of the current context. The internship was revealed as fundamental for the students to be exposed to projects and proposals, which gather reflections, and interdisciplinary analyzes during initial teacher education, becoming their formation more coherent in relation to the contemporary needs of a thought and an action more complex. Among results, it was perceived the student s perspective before the internship in this initial teacher education course, as well the significance of the interdisciplinary issue in the context of formation, cause, although students did not have the chance to experience the interdisciplinary challenge, they have brought concerns about it.

Estágio de psicopatologia: a experiência emocional de estudantes de Psicologia frente à psicose / Internship in Psychopathology: emotional experience of psychology students when exposed to psychosis

Collakis, Silvia Teresa 03 June 2016 (has links)
This study examines the experience of students enrolled in the Psychology Graduation Course, during their first contacts with mental illness while being trained in the subject of Psychopathology: Theoretical Aspects and Clinical Practice. The teaching of this subject and the training of future psychologists must be viewed in a cultural and historical context that has gone through profound transformations over a period of time and is presently in the midst of a Psychiatric Reform movement. The purpose of this research is to investigate and to understand the emotional experience of Psychology students who have participated in monitored sessions, as trainees, at a Psycho-social Support Centre (locally known as Centro de Atenção Psicossocial - CAPS) and who have had contact with psychotic patients during the course of treatment sessions, of a clinical nature based on Winnicotts therapeutic consultations. A clinical and qualitative approach was chosen, supported by an investigation based on a psychoanalytical vision. Five students, that were studying this subject, participated in semi-directed interviews, both before and after the internship. The field notes taken by them after each therapy session were also analysed. The technique for data treatment was by content analysis that was both by category and thematic. The results revealed that every one of the students had a prior interest in the subject of psychopathology and that these students had expected to increase their knowledge of the theoretical and practical aspects of it; they created social representations of psychosis based on common sense and on theoretical / etiological bases, be it in an institutional context or in a psycho-social one. During their internship period they transformed their preconceptions regarding the means for health treatment as well as of professional performance. They recognised fresh treatment possibilities besides the remission of symptoms and the interpretation of repressed contents. The most recurrent sentiments mentioned were derived from conflict, although sentiments derived from death and life instinctsalso emerged, the latter increasingly as the treatment progressed. The internship experience appears to have been crucial to transform and to demystify the manner in which the students envisaged the mental patient, as well as the treatment which this patient should be given, by identifying with someone elses suffering and humanising mental illness. The internship provided an opportunity for the students to reflect on their desire and their vocation to engage in clinical work, in treating extreme cases. The conclusion is reached that the Psychology students emotional experience contains crucial elements which contribute to learning in Psychopathology and to the formation of the future professionals. In this sense, the task of teaching should not be restricted to a mere intellectual exercise or to the emotional and pathological aspects of the patient, but must put the students emotional experience at the centre of the stage

Current Practices of Experiential Learning in the United States Construction and Technology Programs

Abdelaty, Ahmed, Shrestha, Joseph 20 May 2019 (has links) (PDF)
Construction education is dynamic and practice oriented. As such, effective construction programs require significant collaboration with the construction industry. This collaboration, in the form of internship or cooperative programs, increase the student readiness for the job market by providing valuable field experience. Construction programs in the United States (US) established several internship requirements that range from being optional to multiple required internships. This study focuses on scanning the current internship requirements set by construction and engineering technology programs in the US by gathering information including; 1) Number and length of required internships, 2) Internship prerequisites, 3) Internship deliverables, 4) assessment method. The outcome of this study is expected to help construction programs improve their internship or cooperative requirements by considering the prevailing practices developed by other schools. Additionally, the study provides recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of internship for positive experiential learning.

Artifacts conservation : bronzes, bones, bowls and boxes : a report on an internship in archaeological conservation, The Nicholson Museum of Antiquities, The University of Sydney

Marsh, Glenda Susan, n/a January 1985 (has links)
During 1984 I carried out an Internship in Materials Conservation under the supervision of Mrs. Patricia Johnson, the Conservator of the Nicholson Museum of Antiquities, the University of Sydney. My area of specialization was in the conservation of artifacts. The majority of artifacts examined and treated during the Internship were from archaeological excavations in the Middle East, at the site of Pella, in Jordan. The site of Pella has produced artifacts from a wide chronological range ; Neolithic, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Hellenistic (Greek), Roman, and Arabic historical periods. A selection of these artifacts has been granted to the University of Sydney by the Jordanian government, and constitute the present Pella Collection. Most of the materials are inorganic, i.e. ceramics, metals, glass, and stone, although bone and ivory artifacts, as well as skeletal material, form a part of the collection. Upon an initial examination of the collection, conservation problems were identified and a program of conservation work for the collection was formulated. Priority treatment was given to the metals in the collection, particularly to the small bronzes which were found to be suffering from "bronze disease" (active corrosion), to ceramics needed for study and display, and to glass with unstable surfaces. Improvements in storage conditions for the Pella Collection, particularly in the packing of small finds and the storage of metals, were also given a high priority. Taken altogether, the Pella Collection has proved to be a wellbalanced collection, covering almost every period of Kiddle Eastern Archaeology, and containing artifacts representative of most types of materials and of ancient technology. Planned as a research and teaching collection for the students of the Department of Archaeology, the University of Sydney, it also proved to be an excellent teaching collection for a student of materials conservation. The following, therefore, is a report on my Internship in Archaeological Conservation, and includes a description of the institution which sponsored the Internship, a description of both the program of work and the program of instruction for the Internship, detailed descriptions of all conservation work and other activities which were undertaken as part of the: Internship, and a final evaluation of the Internship.

A summation of projects and experience as an intern at the Art Gallery of New South Wales

Stryker, Mark D., n/a January 1983 (has links)
During the period of internship at the Art Gallery of New South Wales (March, 1982 - January 1983), I had the opportunity to work on paintings from the 20th, 19th, 10th, and 17th centuries. Some of the paintings were privately owned, and usually arrived at the Gallery in much worse condition than any of the Gallery's paintings, therefore I had the chance to carry out major treatments as well as the routine minor treatments associated with the maintenance of a collection. The atmosphere at the Gallery conservation facility is a healthy one. The laboratory supports five fulltime conservators (Alan Lloyd, Peter Gill, Gill McMillan, Susie Bioletti, and Ranson Davies). All the members of staff were willing participants in helping and advising me during my period of internship. The contact with so many points of view and attitudes was instrumental in maintaining a positive and constructive attitude toward the profession. Cathy Lillico (conservator for the Regional Galleries) and Anne Gaulton were also working in the laboratory during my period of internship. Both took an active interest in my work at the Gallery. The work emphasis at the Gallery was placed on practical experience with paintings conservation, and a wide range of techniques and attitudes were considered and implemented. The period was also an opportunity to become involved in other aspects of conservation work apart from treatments. The transport, display, lighting, packaging and handling of painttings are important responsibilities for conservation staff, and I participated in them whenever possible. The routine examination of the Gallery collection and monitoring the light and temperature fluctuations within the Gallery environment were also part of my duties. The exposure also gave me the opportunity to answer public telephone enquiries and participate in advising the public on conservation during the Thursday morning open house, when the public is allowed to bring their works into the Gallery for advice from curatorial and conservation staff. I consider it a valuable and worthwhile exposure to the workings of a major institution. The Gallery conservation facilities include a studio and darkroom that are well equipped for conservation photography. I chose to take advantage of those facilities to improve my standard of photography and increase my understanding of the application of photography to the examination of paintings. The Gallery was very generous to allow me the use of film materials during my period of internship. All the plates and slides in this presentation were photographed, developed, and printed by myself, with the exception of color processing, using the conservation department facilities. Internships are not a tradition within the Art Gallery Conservation Department. Because of this, there is not an established program or itinerary for interns to follow. I am grateful to the entire staff of the conservation department, especially Alan Lloyd, for their support and encouragement in shaping an interesting and rewarding internship. I hope the opportunity will be made available to others who wish to pursue the profession of conservation. Some of the material presented in this dissertation is included for my own reference. This includes the TABLES 1-4 and some of the basic information under the conservation photography section dealing with normal and raking light illumination techniques.

A case study of the elementary school student teachers' student teaching weblogs¡¦ self-presentation , network learning community and their impact on student teaching

Tao, Ying-ju 07 August 2007 (has links)
The blog provides the place of communication and sharing with the elementary school student teachers who practice teaching at diffinent schools. Using the blog to compose practice process provides the practice- guide organization with practice teachers' another guide channel. The researcher wants to understand how student teachers use the blogs. This study aims to explore the process and the impact of the use of blogs by 10 student teachers on' self-presentation and the internet learning community during one year student teaching practicum. Thus, the purposed of this study are: 1) to observe the self-presentation of blog use in the progress of student teaching, 2) to explore the culture of the internet learning community formed from the blogs of elementary school practice teachers, and 3) to explore the impact of blog writing on the self-presentation and the internet learning community for student teachers. This study uses qualitative research methods, including non-participant observation, interviews, and documentary reviews. After careful examination and analysis of the data collected, the following conclusions are reached: 1. The issue of trust and privacy of public blogs remains a challenge for the use of blogging in education. 2. Blogging helps to generate self-reflection. 3 . The main activity on the blog by the student teachers is journal writing instead of interacting with other student teacher peers. 4. The culture of the internet learning community in the blog environments for the participating student teachers is formal and serious. 5. Student teaching weblogs are not only a "performance stage" but also a "supportive community". The conclusions of this study would be served as suggestions and references for follow-up research. The suggested of this study are: 1) compare the student teacher use paper with blog to write daily record.2) the public of blog have the influence of student teachers.3) which is the factor obstructed student teacher interaction the discussion.

Styrmansyrket : Förväntan kontra verklighet / Officer’s job : Expectation versus reality

Nilsson, Niklas, Ek, Oskar January 2012 (has links)
With the new implementation of the ISPS regulations, it is hard to get an insight in the duties of an officer of the seas. How can new students know what they are applying for when they want to become said officers.     The purpose of this thesis was to examine the underlying expectation about the officer’s job within the Swedish merchant navy. Interviews where carried out on third year students at a maritime academy in Sweden regarding the view of the officer’s job acquired on-board a ship during internship and on-board training. The expectation was later compared to the image of that acquired onboard.     The results were those that the officer’s job is not like any job on land and that one has to work on board a ship to acquire insight in how the officer’s job truly is.

Perspectives on Intern Well-Being: The Importance of Education, Support, and Professional Satisfaction

Speller, Heather Korkosz 23 September 2010 (has links)
The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore intern's perspectives on how the professional environment impacts their well-being. In-depth, semi-structured interviews were conducted in March and April of 2009 with seventeen interns from residency programs in a variety of specialties at an urban teaching hospital. Investigators coded interview transcripts line-by-line, and identified recurrent themes through an iterative process of analyzing tagged quotations. Three themes (each with three sub-themes) characterized aspects of the professional environment that interns perceived as impacting their well-being: 1) high-quality education (workload, work hours, and quality and quantity of teaching), 2) professional development and satisfaction (making a meaningful contribution to patient care, positive feedback and extrinsic reward, and balance of autonomy and supervision), and 3) social and emotional support from colleagues (feeling supported by the residency program, cooperative team environment, and intern community). These aspects of the professional environment have the potential to significantly impact intern well-being, and should be taken into consideration when developing new systems, interventions and policies to improve the well-being of interns.
