Chemical mineralogy of cobalt and gold in the Mt Isa block

Munro-Smith, Vera, University of Western Sydney, Faculty of Science and Technology January 1998 (has links)
Several deposits in the Mt Isa - Cloncurry region have been studied, including those held by Australian Resources near Selwyn (Plume, Slate Ridge, Mobs Lease and Straight Eight),in particular, with respect to cobalt and gold mineralisation. Cobalt is associated with pyrite, pyrrhotite and arsenic sulfosalts. Other cobalt deposits in the Eastern Fold Belt of the Mt Isa Block were studied; these include the Queen Sally, Lorena and the Great Australia mine. Varying styles of Co-bearing mineralisation were encountered. In the Queen Sally mine a curious vanadium - substituted heterogenite has been found. This is only the world's second reported occurrence of this mineral of the halotrichite group. At the Great Australia, primary Co mineralisation has been shown to be confined to one generation of cobaltian pyrite. Several generations of pyrite are noted for this and other deposits. / Master of Science (Hons)

Jag har rätt tycker jag också att få ett jobb.. faktiskt : en studie om personer med kognitiva funktionshinder och deras syn på arbete

Andersson, Katarina, Strand, Lena January 2005 (has links)

Bernspång, Johan January 2004 (has links)
<p>Due to the development towards more dense programmable devices (FPGAs) it is today possible to fit a complete embedded system including microprocessor, bus architecture, memory, and custom peripherals onto one single reprogrammable chip, it is called a System-on-Chip (SoC). The custom peripherals can be of literally any nature from I/O interfaces to Ethernet Media Access Controllers. The latter core, however, usually consumes a big part of a good sized FPGA. The purpose of this thesis is to explore the possibilities of interfacing an FPGA based Microblaze system to an off-chip Ethernet MAC/PHY. A solution which would consume a smaller part of the targeted FPGA, and thus giving room for other on-chip peripherals or enable the use of a smaller sized FPGA. To employ a smaller FPGA is desirable since it would reduce power consumption and device price. This work includes evaluation of different available Ethernet devices, decision of interface technology, implementation of the interface, testing and verification. Since the ISA interface still is a common interface to Ethernet MAC devices a bus bridge is implemented linking the internal On-Chip Peripheral Bus (OPB) with the ISA bus. Due to delivery delays of the selected Ethernet chip a small on-chip ISA peripheral was constructed to provide a tool for the testing and verification of the bus bridge. The main result of this work is an OPB to ISA bus bridge core. The bridge was determined to work according to specification, and with this report at hand the connection of the Ethernet chip to the system should be quite straightforward.</p>

Predicated execution and register windows for out-of-order processors

Quiñones Moreno, Eduardo 18 November 2008 (has links)
ISA extensions are a very powerful approach to implement new hardware techniques that require or benefit from compiler support: decisions made at compile time can be complemented at runtime, achieving a synergistic effect between the compiler and the processor. This thesis is focused on two ISA extensions: predicate execution and register windows. Predicate execution is exploited by the if-conversion compiler technique. If-conversion removes control dependences by transforming them to data dependences, which helps to exploit ILP beyond a single basic-block. Register windows help to reduce the amount of loads and stores required to save and restore registers across procedure calls by storing multiple contexts into a large architectural register file.In-order processors specially benefit from using both ISA extensions to overcome the limitations that control dependences and memory hierarchy impose on static scheduling. Predicate execution allows to move control dependence instructions past branches. Register windows reduce the amount of memory operations across procedure calls. Although if-conversion and register windows techniques have not been exclusively developed for in-order processors, their use for out-of-order processors has been studied very little. In this thesis we show that the uses of if-conversion and register windows introduce new performance opportunities and new challenges to face in out-of-order processors. The use of if-conversion in out-of-order processors helps to eliminate hard-to-predict branches, alleviating the severe performance penalties caused by branch mispredictions. However, the removal of some conditional branches by if-conversion may adversely affect the predictability of the remaining branches, because it may reduce the amount of correlation information available to the branch predictor. Moreover, predicate execution in out-of-order processors has to deal with two performance issues. First, multiple definitions of the same logical register can be merged into a single control flow, where each definition is guarded with a different predicate. Second, instructions whose guarding predicate evaluates to false consume unnecessary resources. This thesis proposes a branch prediction scheme based on predicate prediction that solves the three problems mentioned above. This scheme, which is built on top of a predicated ISA that implement a compare-and-branch model such as the one considered in this thesis, has two advantages: First, the branch accuracy is improved because the correlation information is not lost after if-conversion and the mechanism we propose permits using the computed value of the branch predicate when available, achieving 100% of accuracy. Second it avoids the predicate out-of-order execution problems.Regarding register windows, we propose a mechanism that reduces physical register requirements of an out-of-order processor to the bare minimum with almost no performance loss. The mechanism is based on identifying which architectural registers are in use by current in-flight instructions. The registers which are not in use, i.e. there is no in-flight instruction that references them, can be early released. In this thesis we propose a very efficient and low-cost hardware implementation of predicate execution and register windows that provide important benefits to out-of-order processors.

Alliance coordination effectiveness and the performance of international strategic alliances: development of the partnership and moderating role of market environment turbulence

Choi, Young-Tae 15 November 2004 (has links)
The purpose of this dissertation was to investigate post-international strategic alliance (ISA) formation issues, which have been neglected in the ISA literature. The specific research questions were 1) how do ISA partners develop their relationships? 2) how does this relationship development impact effective management of resources contributed by each ISA partner? and 3) how does effective resource management influence ISA performance? Data were collected by mail and web surveys from those who were/are involved in ISA operations. Structural equation modeling using LISREL was employed to test the conceptual model and multiple regression analysis was adopted to test the moderating effects in the model. The model was modified by introducing second order factors to correctly interpret the relationships between factors and achieve a more parsimonious model. Results indicate that alliance partnership interactions between ISA partners (i.e., reciprocity, transparency, formal and informal communication, two-way and participative communication, and cultural sensitivity) positively influenced the development of desire for joint action between them which is based on trust and commitment. Desire for joint action positively influenced alliance coordination effectiveness (ACE: integration and utilization of resources) which underlies effective resource management between ISA partners. ACE positively affected ISA performance. Market environment turbulence (i.e., host government interference and technology turbulence), however, did not have moderating effects between ACE and ISA performance. The first question was answered by introducing alliance partnership interaction factors which influence the building of the positive relationship between ISA partners. The introduction of ACE explained how ISA partners manage the resources provided by each partner. The significant impact of ACE on ISA performance and the nonsignificant impact of the moderating variables indicate that ACE has strong impact on ISA performance that can absorb the effects of host government interference and technology turbulence in the operation of ISAs.

A DNA microarray was constructed containing 2600 ORFs identified by the Genome sequencing project of Xylella fastidiosa 9a5c strain, and used to check global gene expression differences in the bacteria within a susceptible and a tolerant sweet orange plant, the variety Pera and the cultivar Navelina ISA 315, respectively. More genes related to degradation, regulation, membrane components, fimbrial adhesins, transport, genetic mobile elements and patogenicity genes were differentially expressed in Pera variety. On the other hand, in the cultivar Navelina ISA 315, more genes related to stress response, detoxification of oxygen reactive species or other substances, “heat shock” proteins, as well as an adhesin of the hemagglutinin type, suggesting differences in cellular aggregation and biofilm composition, as well as a higher estress of the bacteria in tolerant cultivar, produced either by plant defenses or by endophitic microorganisms which are competing with X. fastidiosa. This “handmade” DNA microchip was validated by RT-qPCR, and has revealed as a powerful technique for the analysis of global changes in gene expression of X. fastidiosa in sweet orange plants in vivo, generating a more real image of what is happening in nature than in vitro systems which would never reproduce nature conditions exactly. Some hypotheses were raised in this study about patogenicity mechanisms, therefore, more research is still necessary to achieve a better understanding of pathogenicity mechanisms and host-pathogen interactions

Užitkovost nosných slepic v různých systémech ustájení

FARA, Jiří January 2017 (has links)
The aim of the thesis was to evaluate productivity of the final hybrids laying type of hens Isa Brown and Bovans Brown in different housing systems on the basis of data provided by the International Poultry Testing Station in Ústrašice. Monitoring performance of the final hybrid laying type hens consisted of rearing pullets until the age of 126 days and the laying period to 518 days of age. Hatching eggs of Isa Brown hybrid for keeping in cages had significantly higher weight and fertilization, but lower hatchability of fertilized eggs than for keeping on litter. Hybrid Bovans Brown eggs for hatching intended for keeping in cages had lower weight and lower fertilization and hatching rate of fertilized eggs than eggs for keeping on litter. At the end of 18th week of rearing of pullets Isa Brown and Bovans Brown reared in cages had significantly lower body weight compared to pullets reared on litter. In pullets housed in cages feed consumption in 126 days was significantly higher compared with pullets reared on litter. During the rearing of pullets mortality was not recorded. Hybrid Isa Brown showed a higher body weight if kept in cages while hybrid Bovans Brown on litter. Both hybrids in battery cages had lower feed consumption per 1 egg and 1 feeding day. For the observed period was found higher mortality in chickens kept in cages than on litter. Hens housed in cages had lower egg production at the initial state. Both hybrids housed in cages had significantly lower intensity of laying during the first period than the laying hens housed on litter. Differences in the 2nd laying period were slight. Hens housed in battery cages achieved the highest egg weight in the mid-laying cycle, i.e. in the 7th the laying period. Conversely hen housed on litter achieved the highest egg weight at the end of the laying cycle, and 13th, respectively 14th the laying period. Shell strength gradually decreased with age in both housing systems.

Heterogeneous processor composition : metrics and methods

Tomusk, Erik-Arne January 2016 (has links)
Heterogeneous processors intended for mobile devices are composed of a number of different CPU cores that enable the processor to optimize performance under strict power limits that vary over time. Design space exploration techniques can be used to discover a candidate set of potential cores that could be implemented on a heterogeneous processor. However, candidate sets contain far more cores than can feasibly be implemented. Heterogeneous processor composition therefore requires solutions to the selection problem and the evaluation problem. Cores must be selected from the candidate set, and these cores must be shown to be quantitatively superior to alternative selections. The qualitative criterion for a selection of cores is diversity. A diverse set of heterogeneous cores allows a processor to execute tasks with varying dynamic behaviors at a range of power and performance levels that are appropriate for conditions during runtime. This thesis presents a detailed description of the selection and evaluation problems, and establishes a theoretical framework for reasoning about the runtime behavior of power-limited, heterogeneous processors. The evaluation problem is specifically concerned with evaluating the collective attributes of selections of cores rather than evaluating the features of individual cores. A suite of metrics is defined to address the evaluation problem. The metrics quantify considerations that could otherwise only be evaluated subjectively. The selection problem is addressed with an iterative, diversity-preserving algorithm that emphasizes the flexibility available to programs at runtime. The algorithm includes facilities for guiding the selection process with information from an expert, when available. Three variations on the selection algorithm are defined. A thorough analysis of the proposed selection algorithm is presented using data from a large-scale simulation involving 33 benchmarks and 3000 core types. The three variations of the algorithm are compared to each other and to current, state-of-the-art selection techniques. The analysis serves as both an evaluation of the proposed algorithm as well as a case study of the metrics.
