The use of developing platforms to support the implementation of distributed applications has become a trend. These platforms provide a number of specialized services that help programmers to focus on the business logic of the applications they develop, instead of wasting precious time with the implementation of infrastructure services. J2EE (Java 2 Enterprise Edition) is a platform backed up by SUN Microsystems that has lately gain a lot of attention. Unfortunately, the J2EE specification does not provide any support for fault tolerance, a non-functional requirement more and more necessary for distributed applications. Developers of such applications must themselves provide the necessary mechanisms to fulfill the requirements of the applications. Alternatively, they can use implementations of the platform that are themselves fault tolerant. In this dissertation we present the design and implementation of such a platform. Unlike other implementations available, that use passive replication, our approach uses active replication to provide a solution that is highly reliable and totally transparent to the application.

Security Architecture and Technologies for the Electronic Document Exchange with SOAP as Communication Protocol / Säkerhetsarkitektur och -tekniker för utbyte av elektroniska dokument med SOAP som kommunikationsprotokoll

Dahlén, Marcus January 2005 (has links)
In many industries the tracking and tracing of products within the supply chain is required by law. Companies in the metal working industry exchange so-called material test reports, which specify the product’s properties, the customer’s requirements, and serve as an assurance between the supplier and the customer. Internet technologies have changed the way companies exchange information and conduct business. In the metal working industry companies can implement an intermediary platform and make the exchange of material test reports more efficient. Furthermore, a client application that allows the company to export test reports from their information system directly to the intermediary can significantly decrease the processing costs. This inter-organizational collaboration can render an increase in productivity for customers and suppliers. The main goal of the thesis is to analyze how companies in a supply chain can exchange documents with an intermediary over the protocol SOAP as well as support companies by showing a structured procedure for how to achieve security in a system using SOAP. SOAP is a platform independent XML-based communication protocol. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is of major importance in e-business applications, because of its platform, language, and vendor independent way of describing data. As a universal data format, it enables the seamless connection of business systems. SOAP does not provide any security and is usually implemented over HTTP, which allows it to pass through firewalls. Companies are only prepared to join an inter-organizational collaboration if IT-security is guaranteed. In the exchange of material test reports, security has two objectives. The first is to replace the handwritten signature in the paper-based document exchange. The second is to guarantee security for the material test reports as well as for the information intermediary. SOAP’s extensibility model allows organizations to develop new extensions, which build upon the protocol and provide functions which aren’t specified. Specifications for attachments as well as for security should be implemented in the electronic document exchange. To design a secure system, each security concept, such as confidentiality, authentication and integrity, can be analyzed in its context and the appropriate standard can thereafter be implemented.

Softwaretechnische Verknüpfung der interaktiven Softwareplattform Energy Navigator und der Virtual Reality Control Platform: Softwaretechnische Verknüpfung der interaktiven Softwareplattform Energy Navigator und der Virtual Reality Control Platform

Xu, Haibin, Reichel, Thomas, Rünger, Gudula, Schwind, Michael January 2013 (has links)

Adaptive Caching of Distributed Components

Pohl, Christoph 01 May 2005 (has links) (PDF)
Locality of reference is an important property of distributed applications. Caching is typically employed during the development of such applications to exploit this property by locally storing queried data: Subsequent accesses can be accelerated by serving their results immediately form the local store. Current middleware architectures however hardly support this non-functional aspect. The thesis at hand thus tries outsource caching as a separate, configurable middleware service. Integration into the software development lifecycle provides for early capturing, modeling, and later reuse of cachingrelated metadata. At runtime, the implemented system can adapt to caching access characteristics with respect to data cacheability properties, thus healing misconfigurations and optimizing itself to an appropriate configuration. Speculative prefetching of data probably queried in the immediate future complements the presented approach.

Databáze pohybujících se objektů / The Database of Moving Objects

Vališ, Jaroslav January 2008 (has links)
This work treats the representation of moving objects and operations over these objects. Introduces the support for spatio-temporal data in Oracle Database 10g and presents two designs of moving objects database structure. Upon these designs a database was implemented using the user-defined data types. Sample application provides a graphical output of stored spatial data and allows us to call an implemented spatio-temporal operations. Finally, an evaluation of achieved results is done and possible extensions of project are discussed.
