En fornälskares utgrävningar. : En studie av den tidiga arkeologin i Sverige. / The excavations of an antiquarian. : A study of the early archaeology in Sweden.

Magnusson Karlsson, Malena January 2017 (has links)
The essay deals with the early archaeology in Sweden during the 17th and 18th centuries in generally and with Henric Jacob Sivers excavations at Skrickerum in particularly. In the medieval, Christian Sweden, the relics from the antiquity was considered merely as symbols of the heathen past  but with the foundation of Sweden as a united kingdom they awoke interest as symbols for the nation and were used as tools in the nation building. The interpretation of the antiquity and the ancient relics where done with the Bible and the ancient writers of Greece and Rome as guides and sources. With the new scientific approach, inspired by the Enlightenment, the Swedish antiquity and its relics gained other meanings and understandings and during the early 19th century Swedish archaeology developed into a scientific subject. The aim of this essay is to retain a deeper understanding for how Swedish antiquity was looked upon during the period between the Renaissance and 1800 among scholars of the time. What similarities and differences can be spotted in a comparison with archaeology of today? Due to this, the essay concentrate on a few, selected scholars from each century and takes a look at questions like; what was considered antiquities, how where they interpreted and what part did the Christianity, and later on the Enlightenment, play in the view upon Sweden´s ancient past. In order to find answers on a broader and deeper level, the essay makes a detailed study of excavations performed by Henric Jacob Sivers at Skrickerum, Östergötland in 1757. Sivers, who was a priest and a scholar born and educated in Germany, was inspired by the new scientific view and very interested in the ancient past, he collected antiques and called himself “fornälskare”, antique lover. The excavations at Skrickerum took place during two days in June 1757 and Sivers documented the work rather thoroughly in his publication Berättelse om några nyligen i Tryserums Sokn, Tiust Härad och Calmare Län, öpnade hedniska Grafhögar och the theruti fundna Saker (Sivers 1758). How were these excavations conducted and how did they differ from excavations of today, in theoretical, methodical and conductional aspects? Sivers’ publication will give the answers and help us get a glimpse of Swedish archaeology in its early state.

The title given to this work creates a correspondence between "the problem of tradition in Jacob do Bandolim's trajectory" and "comments on choro's official history". This correspondence unfolds itself in two main dimensions. The first relates to the central hypothesis of this study, namely, that the trajectory of Jacob Pick Bittencourt was a turning point in the history of choro. In order to bring to the foregound the elements that are able to prove it, the focus of the research is set on "the problem of tradition": on the one hand, it was this problem that organized and mobilized a large part of the efforts that the mandolinist dismissed in its activities in the field of popular music and, secondly, it is the same problem that organizes the current ways of narrating choro's history and, therefore, that covers with meanings that trajectory. From this situation arises the second dimension, since the realization of the proposed task imply, at the same time, make comments on the conventional way of narrate choro's history. In other words, analyze the problem of tradition in Jacob do Bandolim's trajectory is also to discuss the process of building a narrative by which becomed usual to transmit a particular reading of the history of this genre that reaches us in present / Doutorado / Fundamentos Teoricos / Doutor em Música

Användbarhet på Södertörns högskolas hemsida : Hur förhåller sig Södertörns högskolas hemsida till användbarhet?

Markström Lindgren, Martin January 2011 (has links)
Today, usability is a part human-computer interaction which Södertörn University, among others, is teaching to their students. The purpose with this survey is to illuminate the usability of the website of Södertörn University. To define usability the international standard for usability (ISO 9241-11, 1998) was used as well as the definition of usability by the Danish human-computer interaction scientist Jacob Nielsen. The survey was done with a number of observations with five users of the website. The results showed tendencies towards the usability but also showed the importance significance of usability goals.

Toward a Critical Edition of Gordon Jacob's William Byrd Suite: A Comparison of Extant Editions with The Fitzwilliam Virginal Book

Trachsel, Andrew Jason 08 1900 (has links)
Despite being recognized as one of the most important compositions in the twentieth¬ century wind band repertoire, the William Byrd Suite presents many obstacles for the conductor and ensemble members. Since its initial publication in 1924, the piece has contained many discrepancies of pitch, articulation, rhythm, dynamics, and phrase completion that appear in the score as well as the parts. Although the work was reissued by Boosey & Hawkes in 1960 and 1991, many of the original errors remained intact. The sheer amount of inconsistencies causes great difficulties for the musicians involved in the rehearsal process, slowing efficiency and resulting in a frustrating impediment to a quality performance. The primary purpose of this study was the creation of a critical edition of Jacob's William Byrd Suite that eliminates errors of extant editions, incorporates modern instrumentation, and considers the source material. To accomplish this, the present project looks at all sources, including the autograph manuscript, orchestral version, published editions, and errata. The editorial process examines the governing philosophy, subsequent editorial decisions and indications, and the final organization of the parts. The study concludes with the inclusion of the full score of the new critical edition.

A Study of the Anti-Catholic Bias Contained Within Jacob Burckhardt's The Civilization of the Renaissance in Italy

Kistner, Michael P. (Michael Patrick) 05 1900 (has links)
This work examines the anti-Catholic bias of Jacob Burckhardt as he employed it in the Civilization of the Renaissance in Italy. A biographical chapter examines his early education in the Lutheran seminary and the influence of his educators at the University of Berlin. The Civilization is examined in three critical areas: Burckhardt's treatment of the popes in his chapter "The State as a Work of Art," the reform tendencies of the Italian humanists which Burckhardt virtually ignored, and the rise of confraternities in Italy. In each instance, Burckhardt demonstrated a clear bias against the Catholic Church. Further study could reveal if this initial bias was perpetuated through later "Burckhardtian" historians.

The moral authority of the child in two fairy tales: Perrault's Le Petit Chaperon rouge and the Grimms' Rotkèappchen and Aschenputtel

Unknown Date (has links)
Although many studies focus specifically on the child's reception of fairy tales, few have considered whether the (step)child in the tales is more aware or more equipped with a knowledge of "moral authority" and "correct" conduct than the (step)parent. This thesis will consider the (step)parent/ (step)child relationship motif in two French and German fairy tales by Perrault and the Brothers Grimm: Perrault's Cendrillon ou la petite pantoufle de verre and Le Petit Chaperon rouge; and the Grimms' Aschenputtel and Rotkèappchen. In analyzing the genre's depiction of children, the thesis will examine the ways in which the narrative voice constructs the moral authority of the child (both as intradiegetic character and as extradiegetic reader), while simultaneously diminishing the moral authority of the parent as intradiegetic character. / by Alyssa Cedeno. / Thesis (M.A.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2010. / Includes bibliography. / Electronic reproduction.
