Orientadores : Elisio Caetano Filho , Antonio Carlos Bannwart / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Engenharia de Campinas / Made available in DSpace on 2018-07-14T02:59:45Z (GMT). O desempenho de tais modelagens fenomenológicas ainda superaram o das correlações empíricas, fornecendo assim informações mais precisas e mais abrangentes quanto as características do escoamento / Abstract: Mechanistics models were developed for most common flow patterns in two-phase flow in horizontal or near horizontal gas pipelines. With such models relevants flow parameters may be predicted, namely gas and liquid volume fractions, total pressure drop for both gas and liquid phases, temperature gradient, liquid films for stratified and annular flow, atomization and dispersion rates in the gas core and frictions stresses in the gas-liquid interface. A numerical computer simulator called SIMPIPE was developed to evaluate these models. Such simulator uses a compositional method to predict the fluids properties and phase behavior and finds to simultaneous solution of mass, linear momentum and energy conservation equations to calculate the flow parameters. A sensibility analysis of some intervenient parameters allowed to explicit the importance of some of those ones in the behavior of the proposed models for stratified and anular two-phase flow. In terms of pressure drop, the comparison of the simulation results with the experimental datas showed good results for the proposed models. Statistically the behavior of such models still presented better results compared with the empirical correlations, besides giving informations about the microscopics parameters of the two-phase flow / Mestrado / Mestre em Engenharia de Petróleo

Exercising the Cosmic Race: Mexican Sporting Culture and Mestizo Citizens

Wysocki, David James, Wysocki, David James January 2017 (has links)
Since the achievement of independence, Mexican officials looked for ways to bring together a country of many disparate parts into a single modern nation. Indeed, like their neighbors to the north, many officials supported programs to forge disciplined, productive, and selfless citizens capable of guiding the country in the future through cutting-edge educational programs. When a nearly fifty-year period of civil war and instability came to an end with the rise of dictator-president Porfirio Diaz (1876-1911), the general promoted the first sports programs to toughen up and straighten out a citizenry his cabinet believed had weakened in the country's many refurbished cities. These programs were, nevertheless, exclusionary in practice. The "Indian Problem," as many public officials called it, remained a primary concern as the supposed natural backwardness of the masses was interpreted as a societal disease that, for many, had no known cure. Diaz's presidency, which directed money and attention to wealthy urban centers to the detriment of the countryside, came to end when the masses rose with workers and women to take the government. This social revolution, which began in 1910, was the first in the world and brought to power a generation of idealistic leaders from all walks of life. These leaders took on the country's most desperate problems with creative cultural programs that were often guided by science. For revolutionaries, sports became a primary means of transforming the disparate masses into ideal athlete-citizens under a mestizo-aesthetic that were enlightened by science and willing to sacrifice personal ambition for the greater good. Officials from the military, public health, and education sectors crafted plans to mold citizens based on their visions of the revolution, but women and indigenous people did as well. In some ways these programs failed to meet the lofty expectations of the most idealistic leaders. In others, the revolutionary sports programs were among the most successful government programs created. The work completed between 1920 and 1946 in sports culture and physical education set the stage for some of the country’s greatest sports accomplishments that followed, including winning the right to host the Pan-American Games in 1955 and the Olympics in 1968. Scholars have debated the importance of sports in politics and society for decades, but even though Mexican historians have extensively analyzed revolutionary cultural programs, study on sports has been relegated to a footnote. This dissertation argued that sports were, in fact, considered a primary means of transforming the supposedly backwards masses into ideal citizens for officials in nearly all official departments.

[en] References to the significant role of the artist Joaquim José Nativity - in the County of Rio das Mortes between the second half of the eighteenth century and the first decades of the nineteenth century - allowed the reflection on the possible relationships between the processes of construction and decoration of chapels and churches with the distinction of representantions and hierarchy(s) between dwellers. To provide resources for the ornamentation of the temples, the funders of the work - Landowners and slaves related to production and marketing of foodstuffs - expected that the artistic quality was compatible with raised values. Thus, the prestige and fortune for the artist to the contractor factors were relevant to the examination of a portion of the works attributed to the artist, because they carry the meaning of social privilege expressed in artistic and social processes involved in their implementation.

[en] A study of Dinossauro Excelentíssimo, by José Cardoso Pires, in which a classic genre - the fable - comes back and where the writing turns itself in a signal of many senses, being able to interlace new meanings to the ones traditionally established. This scheme gave the author the chance to inquire the quotidian memories of the Salazar s dictatorship, merging in the fiction outstanding events of the recent Portuguese s political history. This master thesis analyses how the narrative is build, stressing the allegoric character of the fable, the way the genre is contextualized in the Portuguese History, the power and censure exhibition during the New State regime and the performance of the author as an intellectual. By systematization, the text is divided in tree thematic items: The Poetics, The Power end The Look, that drive the relevant aspects of this masterpiece.

[en] This work aims at analyzing the book The Gospel According to Jesus Christ, written by José Saramago, a Portuguese contemporary novelist. It emphasizes the tragic path of the central character and its similarity to the Oedipus trajectory. The novel is understood like a bildungsroman that brings as its principal theme Jesus conflict with his Father. The path of this contemporary mythical hero is then compared with Oedipus course, Sophocles tragedy hero. The essay also attempts to stress some representative features of Saramago´s novel, such as the use of parody, irony and inner text to desconstruct religious speech.

EDUARDO PRAZERES DOS SANTOS 04 March 2004 (has links)
[en] This dissertation aims at analysing the novel O Delfim, by José Cardoso Pires, from the perspective that it is made of two intertwined stories: a detective novel and a political plot. The book was written in a time of strong censorship, and that`s why the analysis is done under the assuption that investigation of the crime is more apparent so that it would be possible for the author to discuss political issues. First, we analyse the detective plot; afterwards, we go over its political aspects to try to make it clear to what extent they complement each other or wether one overshadows the other. We will also considered the social intentions of the author, his intellectual motivations of writing about the Portugal of the late 1960`s, and his approach it with an inovative novel.

[en] AQUI O MAR ACABA E A TERRA PRINCIPIA: THE PLACE ANNOUNCES ITSELF IN A JANGADA DE PEDRA / [pt] AQUI O MAR ACABA E A TERRA PRINCIPIA: O LUGAR QUE SE REVELA EM A JANGADA DE PEDRA

MARIA CRISTINA CHAVES DE CARVALHO 07 August 2006 (has links)
Neste cantar épico, José Saramago busca premiar, numa ilha imaginária, heróis anônimos - personagens sensíveis que, vogando no Oceano Atlântico, encontram o amor, possível mediante o conhecimento do próprio corpo e do espaço ibérico. / [en] In the present thesis, an analytic reading of the novel A Jangada de Pedra is included so as to provide a deep study on the aesthetics of a fictional story which, regarding the tradition of Iberian navigators creates a magic voyage in which the land itself wanders on the seas: a land which floats with its walking heroes. In this utopian space, the hope on this unpredictable future is renewed. Promoting a dialogue between fiction and history, the author presents an ideological project, including the uneasiness the Iberian culture and the political and social context from that age bring him, according to the approval or the refusal of the Peninsula in the European Union. José Saramago threw himself into this epic mood in order to honour, in an imaginary island, anonymous heroes - sensitive characters who, drifting in the Atlantic Ocean, find love, just possible by means of acknowledgement of their own bodies and the Iberian environment.

[en] TWILIGHT: ALLEGORIES OF LIGHT AND SHADOWS IN PLATO AND SARAMAGO / [pt] LUSCO-FUSCO: ALEGORIAS DE LUZ E SOMBRA EM PLATÃO E SARAMAGO

LEANDRO DE BARROS GUIMARÃES 21 December 2017 (has links)
[en] Prisioners looking at projected images and calling them reality. The allegorical speech crosses the time and is a constant presence at different moments of the cultural history. This work aims to analyze the points of touch and distance between the Plato s cave and José Saramago Blindness. In this paper we analyze the possible relationship between allegories, supported by the similarities between literature, history and philosophy. I m interested in revealing how the authors appropriate the allegorical feature and nearby references to build the sense of their thoughts. The work makes use of reference proposed by Wolfgang Iser, through its pretending acts, the definitions of allegory proposed by João Adolfo Hansen and Flavius Kothe, and converses with the work of Luiz Costa Lima. In Plato, besides the allegory, it examines the question of the simulacrum proposed by Gilles Deleuze and how it is assumed the allegorical speech in a theory which aims to neutralize the words dubiety. In Saramago, analyze how the Marxist view of ideology appears in the situations narrated by the author. Finally, we show that the points set out in Blindness admits the possibility of a hermeneutic allegory of Plato s cave.

A tale of two cities: public housing and municipal revenue policymaking in San Jose, Costa Rica and San Salvador, El Salvador

MacDougall, P. Barrett 01 January 1978 (has links)
The scholarly tradition in urban policy analysis holds that a variety of economic, social and political background factors influence the nature and amount of output by the policymaking system. Here a number of these factors such as elections and parties, structure of the national economy and age and sex composition of the population are examined to determine their effect on public housing and local government revenue policy in two Central American urban centers. San Jose, Costa Rica and San Salvador, El Salvador were chosen for the study because they are in the same size range, both are capital (and primate) cities and both have been growing rapidly in recent years. Moreover, the cities exist in radically different sociopolitical milieux. With such characteristics as size and primacy held constant, it was felt that variations in policy output could be linked to and at least partially explained by the political, social and economic differences. For a variety of systemic and historical reasons, urban public housing is provided in both countries by autonomous agencies of the national governments. Their operational policies and programs are compared. Two major activities in the field of municipal revenue are traced through the policymaking process from their genesis: a successful effort to install parking meters in San Jose, and an unsuccessful attempt at overall tax reform in San Salvador. In neither policy area, public housing nor municipal revenue, was the original hypothesis sustained. No important differences in policy output between San Jose and San Salvador could be identified. Consequently, there were no variations to be explained by the diversity in social, economic and political background factors. Nonetheless, these factors are considered in detail, along with the nature of the policymaking process in the two cities. Finally, some suggestions are offered as to why San Jose and San Salvador exhibit these similarities in policy product in spite of their many social, political and economic dissimilarities.
