Giving Voice to the Hero Within: The Combination of Two Methodologies for Training the Actor/Performer-- The Use of Ritual Poetic Drama Within the African Continuum and Archetypes for the Actor/Singer As Explored in the Performances of A Thousand Faces: Every Day Heroes A Deconstruction of The Hero With A Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell

Enrico-Johnson, Olisa-Mequella F. 05 May 2010 (has links)
Joseph Campbell tells us that if you look closely at all cultures you find the story of “The Hero's Journey”, the vehicle for my thesis project, a devised theatre piece titled A Thousand Faces: Everyday Heroes. Though the subject of A Thousand Faces is the exploration of “The Hero's Journey” the foundation of the work is the application of the pedagogical principles of Ritual Poetic Drama Within the African Continuum (RPDWAC) as outlined in the practices of my mentor Dr. Tawnya Pettiford-Wates, Assistant Professor of Performance at Virginia Commonwealth University Theatre (VCU). I apply RPDWAC pedagogical principles to Archetypes for the Actor/Singer (AFAS), a training methodology developed by Frankie Armstrong and another of my mentors, Professor of Voice and Speech and Head of Performance at VCU Theatre, Janet B. Rodgers. This paper outlines the process and performance of a class that combined these methodologies.

Validizační studie Dotazníku typologie osobnosti GPOP: porovnání s osobnostním inventářem NEO-PI-R / Validation study of the Golden Profiler of Personality: comparison with the personality inventory NEO-PI-R

Jarošová, Zuzana January 2014 (has links)
This thesis addresses the personality questionnaire Golden Profiler of Personality (GPOP). Its main objective is to verify a construct validity of GPOP. In the theoretical part, the required psychometric characteristics of psychodiagnostic tools are discussed. It also deals with the theoretical background of the GPOP - Jung's theory of psychological types and the Five Factor Model. The questionnaire GPOP is also compared with other psychodiagnostic tools with similar theoretical background and possibilities of its applications are discussed. The empirical part examines relationship between the scores of Golden Profiler of Personality and NEO inventory NEO-PI-R to determine the construct validity of GPOP. The research was conducted on the sample of university students. Results confirm the expected relationship and can be considered as the evidence of construct validity. The comparison with the norm sample showed that the sample of this research differs from the norm sample. Although the generalizability of results to the population is limited, this thesis offers the first validation study of Czech version of GPOP. Keywords: GPOP, psychodiagnostics, Jung typology, validity, NEO-PI-R

Développement d’une pédagogie du jeu clownesque : un parcours entre Brésil et Europe / Development of the pedagogy of clown’s play : a journey between brazil and europe.

Resende Marques Da Silva, Rafaël 10 November 2018 (has links)
The dialogue between practice and theory is the basis of this study. The challenge is the reflection in three levels: the creation of numbers and shows by the play of clown; the investigation of clown theory; and the pedagogy experimentations. The interrogation about clown began in Brazil and came to four European countries through performances, artistic residences, workshops and meetings with artists by Cia da Bobagem group. The clown is a popular and a banal figure at the same time, but there are primitive traces of his play. This work explores this art by many aspects: his principles, his history, his artists, his intercultural practice, his freedom, his poetry, his incomprehension, and his metamorphoses over time. It is an invitation to travel together in a world paradoxically very near, but still mysterious. The first part shows the artistc journey of the researcher influenced by the research and theoretical curiosity. These are fifteen years of clown lived in Brazil and intensified in Europe with the creation of four shows and the realization of several clown classes in Brussels. The return to Brazil is studied from funded projects. The second part opens on the etymology of the word clown opens this chapter which makes a possible relation of the trickster and the clown, than indicates a theoretical sketch about the clown from the sixteen century to the present day: from morality to actual clowns. The third part is about the game as a learning tool of the clown. There is the attempt to highlight the principles of the clown game and the pedagogical elements applied in Cia da Bobagem. The thesis shows that the practice of clowning allows a professional integration, that the theory amplifies the conception of clown through psychology, anthropology and history, and that the transmission of the clown game by the pedagogy of pleasure can be the other way to play and transmit the clown beyond suffering.

Grupos vivenciais de sonhos com estudantes de psicologia / Not informed by the author

Martines, Pauline de Mello 17 March 2017 (has links)
The present dissertation is based on analytical psychology, created by the Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Carl Gustav Jung. Starting from this framework and based on the pillars of qualitative research, an experiential dream group was realized with incoming students in the first year of graduation in Psychology from a public university, in order to understand how the students are experiencing this moment. Through the study of the group movement in the meetings, an analysis of the material obtained and the symbolic elaboration of the same and of the encounters, it was possible to identify and observe symbols that refer to a process of change and confrontation of fears that found support in the group. The experiential group with expressives artistcs resources revealed itself also as a tool for self-knowledge, allowing the exercise of alterity and its management, its use being indicated for the training of psychologists, in several moments

Story telling and self expression: significative learning and psychological walk-in service as possibilities to clinic

Chalom-Halpern, Marina 20 April 2001 (has links)
Neste fluxo, permite pensar algumas abrangências da clínica, formação e pesquisa em psicologia / The present study inquires about the kind of support that psychologists can offer by searching comprehension of this professional practice meaning. The paper discusses, within the perspective of phenomenology and junguian approaches, the modern human being reality and the importance of a perspective that includes him as a participative subject in his own learning process. It reflects the meaning of the psychologist\'s role, considering the possibility of using cultural and artistic resources. It investigates the experience with traditional tales narrative and/or a psychological appointment, by clients that seek psychological assistance at the Psychological Walk-in Service of the Psychology Institute of the University of Sao Paulo. Starting from the comprehension that experience is the raw material for psychological clinic intervention and research, it is presented in two directions: the clients and the searcher\'s pathways. It is based on the clients\' testimony about what they experienced in the proposed events and in the searcher\'s investigative process. The searcher utilizes graphic resources in her methodology for analysis and comprehension of the deponents\' experience. Such initiative, as well as the story telling used in the psychological context, leaded to reflections upon the possibility of dealing with different resources, as a mean to facilitate the experience elaboration. It achieves the possibility of singular and creative actions, through experience, proposing a significative learning and practice. In this flowing, it offers the possibility of thinking some contains towards clinics, formation and research in the psychological field

Loving's the Strange Thing : individuation in the fairy tales of Carmen Martín Gaite

Storrs, Anne-Marie January 2015 (has links)
The aim of this doctoral thesis is to show how the Jungian process of individuation — the psychological development of a unique individual — is depicted in the fairy tales of the twentieth-century Spanish writer, Carmen Martín Gaite. The three shorter tales — El castillo de las tres murallas, El pastel del diablo and Caperucita en Manhattan — are explored here along with the novel, La reina de las nieves. Individuation, as well as being the means by which an individual person develops, also implies a new way of relating between human beings. Jung described the outcome of individuation as ‘objective cognition’ which, this thesis argues, is equivalent to love and conscious relatedness between persons. Dreams play a crucial role in the individuation process — as they do in the work of Martín Gaite — guiding the dreamer on his/her journey. Dreams facilitate encounters with aspects of the personal and collective unconscious, which appear in symbolic form. The protagonist of the story by Martín Gaite which is closest to a traditional fairy tale (El castillo de las tres murallas) and the novel which takes a traditional tale as its reference point (La reina de las nieves) illustrate the importance of dreams in the development of the protagonists. At the heart of each of the other two tales — El pastel del diablo and Caperucita en Manhattan — is an imagined text which illustrates, in symbolic form, aspects of the individuation process. Connections have been made in Jungian thinking between individuation and the development of Christianity into a third age, the Age of the Holy Spirit, because of the major shift in consciousness (akin to the change which occurred 2000 years ago with the birth of Christ). Alongside the exploration of individuation in the fairy tales, this thesis also considers parallels with the Christian story and indications of its development or renewal.

Matter under Mind

Lause, John F 01 August 2017 (has links)
The artist discusses the work for his Masters of Fine Arts exhibition, Mind under Matter, held at the Tipton Gallery in downtown Johnson City, Tennessee. Exhibition dates are from March 27th through April 5th 2017. ‘Matter under Mind’ explores the balance of control and non-control within the art-making process. This technique creates an automatic dialogue resulting in abstraction guided by the subconscious. The title ‘Matter under Mind’ is a slight play on the phrase ‘mind over matter’ emphasizing how matter/material is manipulated by the mind through the making of artwork, and within the mind’s eye or imagination. The video installation featuring the work is accompanied by a soundscape to bring the viewer deeper into the creative process. The video symbolizes the idea of ‘solve et coagula’ or, dissolve and coagulate, destroy to recreate by revealing how the process of cleaning paint off of a surface creates artwork in itself.
