The Development of the Fundamental Body Measurements of Infants 0-6 old.ANDRLOVÁ, Tereza January 2012 (has links)
This diploma thesis is devoted to the development of body measurements of children 0 to 6 months old being exclusively breastfed until the age of four months and then breastfed with appropriate complementary food. The anthropometrical parameters were the body length, the body weight and the head circumference. The results are shown separately for girls and boys in tables and graphs. The data were compared to the previous surveys of the Czech children. Student's t-test and Z- score were used for comparison. Selected somatic and other characteristics obtained by a questionnaire were taken into the study. The Life Satisfaction Questionnaire was used to evaluate the welfare of primiparas. The breastfed children do not reach lower average values of body length and weight than children of the reference survey CAV, 2001 (Vignerová et al., 2005) and Bláha a kol., 2001 (Bláha et al., 2010) in general. Body lenght, body weight and head circumference of boys and girls until the age of one month positively correlates with the gestation age of an infant. Life satisfaction of primiparas is mostly influenced by financial situation, marriage, partnership and sexuality. Life satisfaction of primiparas from our survey correlates statistically significantly with their health and satisfaction with marriage and partnership. The collected somatic data of infants could be used as a part of the standards for contemporary population of breastfed infants.

An investigation into the robustness of willingness to pay for non-market goods in relation to subjective well-beingSimmons, Nicholas A. January 2016 (has links)
This thesis investigates the sensitivity of derived monetary valuations of the well-being effects of non-market goods, by considering, in turn, the four components that contribute to these calculations. Comparisons are made to the current subjective well-being (SWB) literature by altering one component at a time in a willingness to pay (WTP) function, in addition to varying the estimator used when calculating WTP. The first component varied is the measure of income used; a more robust, up-to-date measure is proposed that takes into account household size, economies of scale and composition, plus other improvements over current income scaling approaches including equivalence scales. Secondly, anticipation and adaptation effects are examined, in order to allow for the dynamics of SWB in WTP valuations. Thirdly, due to the ordered nature of the dependent variable, the effects of both cardinal and ordinal models on WTP derivations are investigated. Such models include the ordered logit fixed effects (FE) model (see for example Das and Van Soest (1999), Ferrer-i-Carbonell and Frijters (2004) and Baetschmann et al. (2011)). The final input to be varied is whether income endogeneity is accounted for. A control function approach is used in this case. A key finding is that all four inputs in the WTP calculation contribute significantly to the estimated WTP values. However, the degree to which each input influences the variation in WTP values differs substantially. The three main contributing factors to WTP variations are the income variable chosen, anticipation and adaptation effects, and controlling for endogeneity. Additionally, this thesis proposes a new way to define WTP that is also valid for ordered estimators. Whilst the standard WTP approach relies simply on coefficient ratios at a point in time, the method proposed here uses the finding that statistically significant anticipation and adaptation effects, along with adaptation to all non-market events (except for unemployment) suggest that there are concerns with taking WTP values as yearly valuations that assume constant effects on SWB. By instead defining WTP as the summation of the value of all WTP effects over all lag and lead effect periods, the total value of an event can be calculated. This definition presents further weaknesses of the original method by showing that because of significant lag and lead effects for events such as divorce and widowhood, these events have substantially larger WTP values than first thought. This leads to the major finding in this study that rank orders are not preserved when controlling for income endogeneity, even when comparing two model specifications that are identical in all other respects. Therefore, despite absolute WTP valuations appearing more similar for linear and ordered estimators when a more appropriate model specification is in place, the rank orders are affected. This finding argues against papers such as Powdthavee and van den Berg (2011) that find that rank orders are preserved for WTP valuations when modelling SWB. In conclusion, given rank orders are generally not preserved when a small change is made in the model specification, the validity of the WTP method is significantly reduced. Finally, the above methodology is applied to education, with the main contribution to the education literature being that the positive effects on SWB from education only exist in terms of lead effects.

Previous issue date: 2017-06-23 / Admission of infants to school is the period of transition from care provided by the family
system to care provided by the school system. It demands adaptation not only of the child,
who is expected to interact with strangers in an unknown environment with new routines, but
also of the family and the school because it requires reorganizations and transformations for
all of them. The overall purpose of this study was to develop both a protocol, which aims to
systematize the process of school admission of infants, and an explanatory folder as teaching
tools. As specific objectives, the study aimed at the following: subsidizing the adherence of
families to school as participants in the educational process; facilitating the admission process
of infants from twelve to twenty-four months of age in a Centre for Early Childhood
Education; verifying the relationship between maternal wellbeing and personality in the
mothers’ and teachers’ perceptions regarding the adaption process of the infants to the school
system; and analyzing the stability of two variables, which are “depressive symptoms” and
“life satisfaction”. The study was based on a systematic literature review which focused on
the relationships between the mothers' subjective wellbeing and the variations of child
development. Furthermore, the link among life satisfaction, depressive symptoms and
personality traits was analyzed through an empirical longitudinal study. It was developed
between March and December of 2016 and investigated two educators and nine mothers of
babies who joined a Centre for Early Childhood Education in the central region of the state of
Rio Grande do Sul in the same year. Results found in previous studies have revealed the great
influence of maternal wellbeing in the first years of a child’s life and the need to qualify the
care provided to infants and young children in kindergartens and similar institutions. As a
result, a protocol was organized to systematize the admission process of infants as well as an
explanatory folder to be distributed in the Centre. Despite the extraordinary growth in
Psychology studies on maternal health and child development, it has been found that the
majority of them focus on the investigation of the symptoms and their effects, that is, they are
based on the Traditional Psychology of a posteriori intervention. Therefore, this topic
requires more studies of typical development, which aims at preventing misadjustments on
behalf of children and their parents in order to increase subjective wellbeing, thus maximizing
strengths and virtues of mothers or caregivers.
Apesar do

Schopnosť seba-regulácie užívania sociálnych sietí a jej súvis s pocitmi osamelosti a životnou spokojnosťou / Ability to self-regulate social networking sites usage and its relationship to feelings of loneliness and life satisfactionNekola, Adam January 2016 (has links)
This master thesis is in theoretical part focusing on the term of self-regulation according to Albert Bandura's theory (1991) and its domains of self-monitoring, self-judgement and self-reaction. Next we define its stand against terms such as addiction and habit, in case of low ability of one's regulation. Thanks to analysis of mainly foreign resources we oriented the work to explanation of relationship between self-regulation and loneliness and life satisfaction. These resources are chosen for their historical consistency and contemporary application, especially in domains of media and online environment. In empirical segment of thesis we are proposing our own questionnaire measuring our ability to self-regulate Facebook usage (SRQ-FB), inspired by original theory of Brown et al. (1999) and Czech translation of their questionnaire, translated and tested by Jakešová et al. (2015). Next we tested hypotheses based on assumption of relationship existence between score of our questionnaire (SRQ-FB) and score of loneliness (measured by UCLA Loneliness Scale; Russell et al., 1980) and life satisfaction score (SWLS - Satisfaction With Life Scale; Diener et al., 1984). Research sample consisted of two nation-based groups: Slovak (N = 168) and Czech (N = 21), which differed significantly in achieved score...

The relationship between psychological wellbeingand attachment in emerging adulthood. Moradabbasi, Peiman, Åsell, Lisa January 2015 (has links)
Youths’ transition into adulthood can be challenging, especially when this transition implies acontinuation of education, thus a continuation of the financial dependency in early adulthood. There are an array of developmental tasks and challenges young people go through, and some ofthese tasks can be conflicting: pursuing an academic track versus having financialindependence. These new challenges can impact on youths’ wellbeing. However, having a goodparentalandpeer attachment have been shown to ease these transitions and have positive effectson wellbeing. In this current study we aimed to examine if parental and peer attachment couldsignificantly predict outcomes in psychological wellbeing(i.e., presence of life satisfaction andselfesteemand absence of depression) in university students (Mean age=22.5, SD= 2.0). Theresults showed that parentalandpeer attachment are significantly related to youths’ lifesatisfaction with one exception. Father attachment was not related to youths’ selfesteem.Insummary parentalandpeer attachment do contribute to significant increases in psychologicalwellbeing.

Work family conflict amongst females in a service organisation in the Western CapeBooysen, Illana L. January 2012 (has links)
Magister Commercii - MCom / In recent years, there has been a proliferation in research on work-family conflict which has become more prevalent in recent years due to the economic climate in which increasingly large numbers of women are entering or returning to the labour market. Finding equilibrium in work and family arenas has also become more important to South African employees. Traditional gender roles have evolved and the role of females as homemakers is no longer the norm. However, an alternative set of social standards have not yet been established as a substitute to new patterns of work and family life. As a result, it is important to focus on concerns relating to female experiences in the workplace to try and overcome the effects of work-family conflict on females.Job stress and role stress have increased dramatically in work and family life, as more women attempt to balance responsibilities at home whilst simultaneously trying to overcome challenges faced with at the office. Typically role ambiguity, role overload and role interference arises and ultimately produces two forms of conflict: time-based conflict and strain-based conflict. Self-efficacy and implementing coping strategies are means to overcome this. The objective of this study was to explore and add to existing research done on work-family conflict amongst females in the workplace. More specifically the study is to determine whether relationships exist between the variables: job stress, role stress, role overload, inter-role conflict, spousal support, coping behaviours; job, family and life satisfaction, emotional exhaustion; the nature of the relationships and the causal impacts between these variables. Two hundred questionnaires were administered and 150 were returned to women employed in a service oriented organisation in the Western Cape. The statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) was utilized to analyze and present data in this research with frequency tables and graphical illustrations to provide information on key demographic variables in this study. The results reveal that there are statistically significant relationships amongst work overload and work-family conflict (WFC). There was also a significant relationship between parental overload and WFC. Moreover, the strongest relationship emerged between WFC and family-to-work conflict (FWC). Females experiencing WFC showed a tendency to rely on problem-focused coping strategies. In addition, there was an inverse relationship between job satisfaction and WFC.
There was a significant difference in WFC based on age, tenure, number of children, income and tenure. There was no significant difference in WFC on the basis of marital status. There were statistically significant differences in FWC based on some of the biographical characteristics of the respondents. There was a significant difference in FWC based on age, tenure, income and occupation.Approximately 35% of the variance in WFC can be explained by age, education, income, work overload, parental overload and spousal support. These variables account for 33.53% of the variance in WFC, and suggest that other unexplored variables could explain the variance in WFC levels experienced by respondents. Approximately 38% of the variance in role stressors can be attributed to age, education, income, work overload, parental overload and spousal support in relation to FWC. The results which emanated from the current study assist in furthering an understanding of WFC and FWC. Individual and organisational implications are discussed and recommendations are made to further enhance this study with additional research into this area being warranted.

Efekt materiální prosperity na štěstí: Evidence z Evropy / The effect of material prosperity on happiness: Evidence from EuropeRečková, Dominika January 2017 (has links)
Easterlin paradox referring to relatively stable levels of happiness and increasing in come over time, although these two seem to be correlated at one point in time has became a hot topic among economist researches in recent decades. The thesis ex tends the usual income analysis to reveal the nature of correlations between material prosperity and happiness. Series of 15 OLS, ordered probit and ordered logit models together with 35 quantile regressions provide a complex analysis of possible happi ness drivers. Results find significant correlations between material prosperity and happiness, and between happiness and social life. The relationship between income and happiness might be non-linear and influenced by various factors. Happiness is found to be dependent on relative income and socio-politic living environment which explains the Easterlin paradox.
psicológica e sociocultural do indivíduo.
estudo transversal, descritivo, correlacional e quantitativo.
para avaliar a habilidade manual fina; o Timed up and go test para avaliar a
