Fretelli Cristóbal, Claudia Sofía, Gonzales López, Cecilia Francisca 28 June 2016 (has links)
Breastfeeding is one of the transcendental element for human life, not only nutritionally but also affective components that occur in it and allows the proper development of skeletal structures of the face and stomatognathic functions (sucking, swallowing , chewing and speaking ) as well as other social activities. The characteristics of the lingual frenulum in infants enables or interferes with the movement of the tongue, affecting breastfeeding, so the early diagnosis of altered lingual frenulum and early intervention benefit functions of sucking, swallowing during lactation and prevent further problems, mainly the speech, the most common difficulty that requires treatment by a speech therapist. The method used in this work is simple descriptive to the extent that it seeks to establish a profile in infants 1-6 months of age , associated with breastfeeding in relation to the bridle . This study has a population equivalent of 50 infants 1 month to 6 months Hospital Lavalle Rosalia Morales Macedo in Lima. The results obtained according to the protocol developed by score Roberta Martinelli were that 5 infants had altered bridle, having a feeding tongue movements characterized by inadequate tongue protrusion limited, uncoordinated movements, delay to start the suction few sucks with longer pauses, bite and release the nipple, emit clicks, among others; and 45 of them had bridle unchanged, which affects an imbalance between feed efficiency and functions of sucking, swallowing and breathing.

Minimalism Yields Maximum Results: Deep Learning with Limited Resource

Haoyu Wang (19193416) 22 July 2024 (has links)
<p dir="ltr">Deep learning models have demonstrated remarkable success across diverse domains, including computer vision and natural language processing. These models heavily rely on resources, encompassing annotated data, computational power, and storage. However, mobile devices, particularly in scenarios like medical or multilingual contexts, often face constraints with computing power, making ample data annotation prohibitively expensive. Developing deep learning models for such resource-constrained scenarios presents a formidable challenge. Our primary goal is to enhance the efficiency of state-of-the-art neural network models tailored for resource-limited scenarios. Our commitment lies in crafting algorithms that not only mitigate annotation requirements but also reduce computational complexity and alleviate storage demands. Our dissertation focuses on two key areas: Parameter-efficient Learning and Data-efficient Learning. In Part 1, we present our studies on parameter-efficient learning. This approach targets the creation of lightweight models for efficient storage or inference. The proposed solutions are tailored for diverse tasks, including text generation, text classification, and text/image retrieval. In Part 2, we showcase our proposed methods for data-efficient learning, concentrating on cross-lingual and multi-lingual text classification applications. </p>

Fouille de documents et d'opinions multilingue / Mining Documents and Sentiments in Cross-lingual Context

Saad, Motaz 20 January 2015 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to study sentiments in comparable documents. First, we collect English, French and Arabic comparable corpora from Wikipedia and Euronews, and we align each corpus at the document level. We further gather English-Arabic news documents from local and foreign news agencies. The English documents are collected from BBC website and the Arabic documents are collected from Al-jazeera website. Second, we present a cross-lingual document similarity measure to automatically retrieve and align comparable documents. Then, we propose a cross-lingual sentiment annotation method to label source and target documents with sentiments. Finally, we use statistical measures to compare the agreement of sentiments in the source and the target pair of the comparable documents. The methods presented in this thesis are language independent and they can be applied on any language pair

Avaliação sequencial do equilíbrio pré e pós-implante coclear em pacientes com surdez pós-lingual / Sequential study of vestibular function pre- and post cochlear implantation in postlingual deafened patients

Abramides, Patricia Arena 10 September 2014 (has links)
É fundamental documentar a presença de função vestibular antes da cirurgia de IC, pois dela depende o prognóstico do individuo em relação às habilidades de aprendizado e recuperação postural ao longo do tempo / INTRODUCTION: There is no consensus in the literature with regard to the effects of cochlear implantation (CI) on vestibular function and balance in patients with deafness. Because of this fact we decided to assess vestibular function before and after unilateral cochlear implantation (CI) in patients with postlingual deafness. OBJECTIVE: To assess balance before and after cochlear implantation (CI) over the course of 1 year. PATIENTS AND METHODS: prospective, observational study sought to assess balance in 24 postlingually deaf adults undergoing vestibular evaluation before and after cochlear implantation (CI). Vestibular assessment consisting of a vertigo questionnaire, caloric tests (CT), rotary chair testing (RC), and computerized dynamic posturography (CDP) was performed preoperatively and at 60, 120, 180 days and 1 year after CI. RESULTS: Overall, 13 patients (54.2%) reported preoperative dizziness and 11 (45.8%) did not have the symptom pre-CI. At the end of the study dizziness ameliorated in 11 (84.6%), remained unchanged in 1 (7.7%) and worsened in 1 (7.7%). Only 5 of the 24 patients (20.8%) developed immediate postoperative dizziness, which resolved within a month. The caloric tests identified 7 (29.2%) patients with normal reflexes, 8 (33.3%) with unilateral areflexia or hyporeflexia, 3 (12.5%) with bilateral hyporeflexia, and 6 (25%) with bilateral vestibular loss (BVL). Electrical stimulation affected both ears and interfered with the progression of postural recovery after CI activation, which led to a significant improvement in CDP values over the course of 1 year of follow-up. At the end of the study, the mean values of the conditions assessed by CDP were higher in individuals who had responded to caloric tests than in individuals with BVL. The better postural performance of subjects with BVL may be due to better use of visual information. CONCLUSION: The presence or absence of CT response was a decisive determinant of balance outcomes over the year after surgery. The absence of post-caloric response in preoperative assessment resulted in a worse prognosis in the evolution of body balance. However, patients with BVL were able to use the visual information for postural stabilization with improvement in the Composite Score. It is essential that vestibular assessment findings be documented before CI surgery because a patient\'s prognosis in terms of learning skills and postural recovery over time depends on this information

Avaliação de lesões cariosas e biofilme dentário por fluorescência em pacientes portadores da síndrome metabólica submetidos à cirurgia bariátrica: um estudo de coorte prospectivo / Evaluation of caries lesions and dental biofilm by fluorescence, in patients with metabolic syndrome submitted to bariatric surgery: a prospective cohort study

Yamashita, Joselene Martinelli 04 August 2017 (has links)
Obesity and the metabolic syndrome have increased in alarming proportions at world level. Apart from systemic consequences, obesity and its comorbidities have also been related to the oral condition. The aim of this study was to identify the caries lesion progression, presence of dental biofilm, the salivary flow and tongue coating in eutrophic individuals, being evaluated in two moments and individuals with metabolic syndrome before and after undergoing bariatric surgery. The sample consisted of 150 individuals divided into two groups: Control Group (CG: 75) and Obese Group (OG): 75, both evaluated in T0 and T1; CG being evaluated six months after T0, and EG, 6 months after bariatric surgery. Anthropometric assessment of individuals was made by means of BMI and waist circumference measurement. The ICDAS II and DMFT indices were used for evaluating the progression of dental caries. The Quantitative Light-induced Fluorescence (QLF) method, for evaluating mineral loss on the smooth tooth surfaces and the presence for dental biofilm. The stimulated salivary flow was evaluated in mL/min. The Winkel tongue coating index (WTCI) was used to evaluate the presence of tongue coating. For statistical analysis, the Chi- Square, Fishers Exact, Kruskal-Wallis and Multiple Logistic Regression tests were used, adopting a significance level of 5%. The results showed statistical difference between the groups: CG presented a higher; number of healthy teeth (p=0.038) and teeth without changes in enamel (p=0.005) when compared to OG. When comparing CG and EG after the second evaluation (T1), statistically significant difference was verified in relation to DMFT (p<0.0001), restored teeth (p<0.0001) and lesion area (Ws) (p=0.045), being the worst conditions found in OG. It was observed that there was a significant difference between mineral loss and the quantity dental biofilm by fluorescence between groups, but not between T0 and T1. In view of the results, the authors concluded that patients with metabolic syndrome, compared to eutrophic, have a higher number of caries lesions before and after bariatric surgery. In the present study, bariatric surgery did not influence in caries lesion progression, however, highlights the necessity to a continuous multi professional approach to acting in the prevention of diseases and dental care.

Prelingual acquired deafness (prelingual deafness) may present hearing detection achieved for the first time stemming from the activation of the cochlear implant (CI), although the hearing and speaking repertories require learning. A case of research and intervention describes the conditions in which these repertories are established and expand from the use of CI. The present study aimed to verify if prelingual cochlear implanted subjects, would learn conditional discriminations between the dictated word and the picture (AB) and between the picture and the printed word (BC) by exclusion; and if learning these discriminations would be a condition for the emergence of transitive relations (AC) and symmetric (CB), for the nomination of pictures (BD) and printed words (CD) and for answering in a general way, facing the same words dictated when teaching (adult female voice), with different intensity and voice frequency (male voice of adult and child). Two studies, with similar objectives were realized, employing a different procedure. In study n° 1, three children whose ages ranged from six to seven years of age, with prelingual deafness and users of CI, model Nucleus 24k were exposed to matching-to-sample, according to the model, using software MTS®. The sessions were realized individually and recorded in VHS for registering and analysis of the vocalizations. The procedure started with the Pre-training and afterwards, the initial repertory was evaluated on the Pre-test and then the stimuli were selected in order to take part of the teaching and subsequent tests. The baseline teaching procedure (AB and BC) was by exclusion. After the acquisition of the baseline, classes of equivalent stimuli tests were conducted (AC and CB), followed by the generalization tests, nomination of pictures (BD) and words (CD). Computational models for multilingual negation scope detection

Fancellu, Federico January 2018 (has links)
Negation is a common property of languages, in that there are few languages, if any, that lack means to revert the truth-value of a statement. A challenge to cross-lingual studies of negation lies in the fact that languages encode and use it in different ways. Although this variation has been extensively researched in linguistics, little has been done in automated language processing. In particular, we lack computational models of processing negation that can be generalized across language. We even lack knowledge of what the development of such models would require. These models however exist and can be built by means of existing cross-lingual resources, even when annotated data for a language other than English is not available. This thesis shows this in the context of detecting string-level negation scope, i.e. the set of tokens in a sentence whose meaning is affected by a negation marker (e.g. 'not'). Our contribution has two parts. First, we investigate the scenario where annotated training data is available. We show that Bi-directional Long Short Term Memory (BiLSTM) networks are state-of-the-art models whose features can be generalized across language. We also show that these models suffer from genre effects and that for most of the corpora we have experimented with, high performance is simply an artifact of the annotation styles, where negation scope is often a span of text delimited by punctuation. Second, we investigate the scenario where annotated data is available in only one language, experimenting with model transfer. To test our approach, we first build NEGPAR, a parallel corpus annotated for negation, where pre-existing annotations on English sentences have been edited and extended to Chinese translations. We then show that transferring a model for negation scope detection across languages is possible by means of structured neural models where negation scope is detected on top of a cross-linguistically consistent representation, Universal Dependencies. On the other hand, we found cross-lingual lexical information only to help very little with performance. Finally, error analysis shows that performance is better when a negation marker is in the same dependency substructure as its scope and that some of the phenomena related to negation scope requiring lexical knowledge are still not captured correctly. In the conclusions, we tie up the contributions of this thesis and we point future work towards representing negation scope across languages at the level of logical form as well.

The Squamata reptiles have a sophisticated sensory system, frequently adapted to the environment in which they live and the activities performed in their foraging. The tongue lizards is a fundamental structure of the sensory system for foraging. Thus, this study sought investigate the morphological and histological tongue structure of five species of Brazilian lizards (Ameiva ameiva, Hemidactylus maboiua, Aspronema dorsivittatum, Ophiodes striatus e Tropidurus torquatus) and its relationship with ambush and active foraging. For that, were analyzed the shape and elongation and made histological slides of language specimens of the five species and colored by HE and PAS. The tongue of all species showed stratified squamous keratinized epithelium, with the keratin layer varying in thickness and position in the tongue. Ameiva ameiva showed the most specialized tongue and restricted to wile foraging, while H. mabouia and T. torquatus presented tongue with less favorable to “tongue-flicking” and therefore closest to ambush foraging structure. The O. striatus and A. dorsivittatum specie showed characteristics of both foraging types, showing a probable plasticity between the extremes of wile and ambush foraging. This fluctuation between types of foraging has been observed within the old genus Mabuya from previous studies that indicate that factors such as food availability and habitat changes are able to alter the dynamics of some species foraging. In the present study it was possible to relate aspects such as types of papillae, tongue shape, muscular arrangement, keratin layer, among others, with the possible dynamics of foraging the five species. The muscle arrangement found in active foragers was considered more compact and focused for the “tongue-flicking”, while the ambush foragers muscle arrangement shown less restricted. And stand out from other factors such as the presence of taste buds. The analysis of external and microscopic characteristics of the tongue provided great contributions to the understanding of how the lizard optimizes its environment perception, as realize the time and its energy expenditure. Also contributes with more information about the morphology and ecology of species occurring in Brazil.
