Kvinnors upplevelser av sexuell hälsa i samband med bröstcancer : En litteraturbaserad studie / Women´s experiences of sexual health in relation to breast cancer : A literaturebased study

Background Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer for women. Sexual health, which is important for women's well-being, can be affected by breast cancer and its treatment. Nurses working with sexual health requires that their own attitude to sexuality is positive and respectful in order to safeguard the well-being of their patient. Aim The aim of this literature study was to describe women's experiences of sexual health in relation to breast cancer. Method The results of this literature-based study include eleven qualitative empirical and scientific articles. The method used for this literature study was an analysis of qualitative research based on a five-stage model. Results The results of this literature study showed that women's sexual health can be affected by breast cancer and its treatment. Two themes emerged: Changes in the sexual life and Changes of body image. Four sub-themes emerged: To experience decreased sexual desire and activity, To experience physical and emotional distress, Feelings of less femininity and Being ashamed of the body. Conclusion Breast cancer and its treatment have physical and emotional impact on women's sexual health. / Bröstcancer är den vanligaste formen av cancer hos kvinnor i världen och i Sverige drabbas cirka 8000 kvinnor varje år. Syftet med denna litteraturstudie var att beskriva kvinnors upplevelse av sexuell hälsa i samband med bröstcancer. Sexuell hälsa definieras som ett välbefinnande och kan uppnås trots sjukdom. Elva vetenskapliga och empiriska artiklar som svarade mot syftet söktes fram i tre olika databaser och analyserades genom att jämföra likheter och skillnader i deras resultat. Resultaten sammanställdes och två huvudteman och fyra underteman växte fram. Det första huvudtemat var förändring av det sexuella livet, med underteman att uppleva minskad sexuell lust och aktivitet och att uppleva fysiska och emotionella besvär. Det andra huvudtemat var förändrad kroppsbild, med underteman att känna sig mindre kvinnlig och att skämmas över sin kropp. Resultat visade att många kvinnor upplevde minskad sexlust efter kirurgi, cytostatika och hormonbehandling och att den intima relationen påverkades. Fysiska besvär så som torra slemhinnor i vaginan och smärta vid samlag var vanligt vid behandlingen. För många kvinnor var sex en viktig faktor i deras intima relation och de kände sig hjälplösa när de intima relationerna begränsades. Många kvinnor upplevde brösten som en del av kvinnan och att bröstcancern var ett angrepp mot deras kvinnlighet. Många kvinnor upplevde att de hade förlorat en bit av sig själva och många skämdes över sin förändrade kropp. Resultatet visade också att många kvinnor upplevde svårigheter med att tala om sin sexuella hälsa. Slutsatsen är att bröstcancer och dess behandling har en betydande inverkan på många kvinnors sexuella hälsa. Sjuksköterskan möter ofta dessa kvinnor i olika vårdsammanhang och behöver därför ha kunskap om kvinnornas upplevelser för att kunna möta deras behov av stöd.

A Comparison of Three Techniques of Teaching Literature: Silent Reading, Readers Theatre and Video-Tape Readers Theatre

The problem of this study was a comparison of the responses of students to three techniques of teaching literature. From this comparison, the most effective technique of teaching literature was identified. The three techniques selected for the study were silent reading, Readers Theatre, and videotape Readers Theatre. These three techniques were compared on achievement and attitude response. Effectiveness of each technique was examined by noting each grade level and the pooled-technique effectiveness scores. Also, black and white video-tape scores were examined in comparison to scores from the presentation of color video-tape. The analysis of data revealed that Readers Theatre resulted in significantly higher mean scores on attitude-scale tests than either of the other two techniques. The teaching technique of silent reading produced significantly higher mean comprehension scores than did either Readers Theatre or black and white video-tape, although Readers Theatre resulted in higher mean comprehension scores than did black and white video-tape. Silent reading produced a higher mean score than did black and white video-tape on the attitude-scale tests. Since silent reading produced significantly higher scores on comprehension of literature, it was concluded that silent reading is the most effective method for achieving comprehension. However, it was also concluded that Readers Theatre is of importance in the domain of attitude and affect. This study isolated Readers Theatre as the most effective teaching technique for attitude response toward literature.

A genealogical history of English studies in South Africa : with special reference to the responses by South African academic literary criticism to the emergence of an indigenous South African literature.

This thesis examines certain social and institutional forces that have shaped the outlooks and procedures of English departments in South Africa. The approach taken is based on the researches of Michel Foucault, notably his genealogical approach to history, and his view of the university as an institution within a broader "disciplinary society" that controls discourse in the interests of existi~g power relations in that society and not out of a concern with disinterested truth. It is argued that English departments are contingent, historically constituted products whose genealogies continue to have serious consequences for struggles around contemporary issues, notably the reception of indigenous South African writing. The first chapter examines the beginnings of the institutionalised study of English literature in England. This inquiry reveals that English literature became the subject of academic.study as a result of conflict between opposing interests in the university and the social world of nineteenth century J England. It also points to the existence of a "discursive space", an inherently unstable area, which the emergent subject of English was forced to occupy as a result of the ezisting arrang~ment of disciplines in the university. Chapter Two analyses the decisive contribution made by I. A Richards a9d the importance of practical criticism for the humanist enterprise of English studies. F. R. Leavis's adaptation of practical criticism is also examined with a view to understanding its consequences for English studies in South Africa. Chapter Three examines the early history of English studies in South Africa and assesses the impact of metropolitan developments on the manner in which the discipline was constituted in this country. Chapter Four focuses on the effect of metropolitan developments on the conceptualisation and study of a South African literature. Chapter Five examines descriptions of sub traditions of South African literature that were offered during the 1960s and '70s and concludes by offering an analysis of the radical critique of English studies that appeared at the end of the decade. The thesis concludes that the radical critique was largely unsuccessful for a number of reasons, one being the lack of a genealogical analysis. It is suggested that the manner in which English studies was historically constituted, and its mode of institutional existence, pose a perhaps intrinsic obstacle to the study and teaching of indigenous writing. / Thesis (M.A. - English) - University of Natal, 1989

This project takes a selection of children's books that encourage feelings of love, respect, and concern for the environment, and pairs them with an array of activities that put children more in touch with our planet and its problems. This combination of shared stories and related activities may be influential in developing environmental sensitivity in young children.

Att som familj leva med ett barn med diabetes typ 1 : En litteraturöversikt / To live with a child with diabetes type 1 as a family : A literature review

Bakgrund: Den kroniska sjukdomen diabetes typ 1 har under 2000- talet ökat i västvärlden. Diabetes typ 1 kan drabba alla människor i alla åldrar men uppstår främst hos barn och ungdomar i åldrarna 0-18 år. Förhållningssättet familjefokuserad omvårdnad används inom vård och omsorg för att fokusera på den betydelse som en familj har för individens upplevelse av sjukdom och ohälsa.Syfte: Beskriva familjens upplevelser av att leva med ett barn som har diabetes typ 1.Metod: En litteraturöversikt baserad på 10 stycken kvalitativa artiklar.Resultat: Fem kategorier har utvecklats utifrån vad föräldrar och syskon upplever i vardagslivet tillsammans med barnet som lever med diabetes typ 1. Dessa kategorier är Skuld och sorg, Oro, rädsla och brist på kontroll, Tvivel och känsla av kunskap, Frustration och orättvisa samt Acceptans. Slutsats: Resultatet visar att det finns många upplevelser och känslor som framkommer hos en familj som lever med ett barn som har diabetes typ 1. Det kan som familj vara svårt att anpassa sig till en helt ny livssituation, bibehålla kontrollen över situationen samt att veta hur egenvård ska utföras utifrån barnets bästa. / Background: The chronic disease diabetes has increased during the 21st century in the western countries. Diabetes type 1 can affect everyone but mostly it can be seen in children and youth between ages 0-18 years. Family focused care is an approach which are used in the healthcare. This approach is focused on the family influence of the individual perception of sickness and unhealth.Aim: Describe the family’s experiences when living with a child with diabetes type 1.Method: A literature study, made out of 10 qualitative studies.Results: Five categories have been developed based on what parents and siblings experienced in the daily life with a child diagnosed with diabetes type 1. These categories are Guilt and grief, Worry, fear and lack of control, Doubts and feeling of knowledge, Frustration and injustice and Acceptance.Conclusions: A lot of different emotions and experiences are seen within the family who lives with a child diagnosed with diabetes type 1. It can be difficult for the family to adjust to a completely new life which involves to remain in control over the situation and to know how self-care shall be executed regarding the child best interest.

Att vårda personer med intellektuell funktionsnedsättning : En litteraturstudie om vårdpersonals erfarenheter

Bakgrund: Personer med intellektuell funktionsnedsättning har en ökad risk för fysisk och psykisk ohälsa och lider av samsjuklighet i större grad än övriga befolkningen. Medellivslängden för personer med intellektuell funktionsnedsättning har ökat vilket leder till en växande grupp människor med särskilda behov som behöver tillgodoses av hälso- och sjukvården. Syfte: Syftet med litteraturstudien var att beskriva vårdpersonals erfarenheter av att vårda personer med intellektuell funktionsnedsättning. Metod: Litteraturstudie med kvalitativ ansats där åtta vetenskapliga studier som svarade mot syftet valdes ut, kvalitetsgranskades, analyserades och sammanställdes. Artikelsökningen genomfördes i databaserna Cinahl, PsycInfo, PubMed och Scopus. Resultat: Analysen resulterade i fyra huvudkategorier med sammanlagt nio underkategorier. Vårdpersonalen beskrev erfarenheter av otillräcklighet och organisatoriska hinder, svårigheter och möjligheter i kommunikationen, betydelsen av goda relationer samt känslor kring utmanande beteende och preventiva åtgärder mot utmanande beteende.Konklusion: Vårdpersonal upplever hinder för att ge god vård till personer med intellektuell funktionsnedsättning. För att överkomma hinder krävs en öppen attityd, en vilja att lära känna personen, en god relation till familjen och personliga assistenter samt ett bra team-arbete. / Background: People with intellectual disabilities are at increased risk for physical and mental illness and suffer from comorbidity in greater degree than the rest of the population. Life expectancy for people with intellectual disabilities has increased, leading to a growing group of people with special needs that must be met by the health sector. Aim: The aim of this study was to describe healthcare personnel´s experiences of caring for people with intellectual disabilities. Method: Literature study with qualitative design. Eight scientific studies that corresponded with the aim was selected, quality assessed, analyzed and compiled. Databases used to search for articles was Cinahl, PsycInfo, PubMed and Scopus. Results: The analysis resulted in four main categories with a total of nine subcategories. Healthcare personnel described experiences of inadequacy and organizational constraints, difficulties and possibilities in communication, the importance of good relationships and their feelings about challenging behavior and preventive measures against challenging behavior.Conclusion: Healthcare personnel´s experience obstacles in providing good care to people with intellectual disabilities. In order to overcome the obstacles it requires an open attitude, a willingness to get to know the person, a good relationship with the family and the personal-assistants and a good teamwork.

Omvårdnadsteamets arbete intraoperativt beträffande patientsäkerheten : En integrerad systematisk litteraturstudie

Introduktion: Hälften av alla vårdskador uppkommer i samband med operation. Operationsteamet är ett multidisciplinärt samarbete där många människor från flera yrkeskategorier arbetar tillsammans i olika konstellationer med patientsäkerheten som en av de viktigaste delarna. Operationssjuksköterskan och anestesisjuksköterskan ansvarar för patientens omvårdnad före, under och efter operationen. Syfte: Att beskriva hur omvårdnadsteamet arbetar intraoperativt beträffande patientsäkerheten. Metod: En integrerad systematisk litteraturstudie där artiklar söktes i databaserna Cinahl och PubMed. Elva artiklar med kvantitativ, kvalitativ och mixed method valdes ut och analyserades. Resultat: Materialet resulterade i tre kategorier: Att vara förberedd, att utbyta information med varandra och att vara förtrogen med varandras färdigheter. Konklusion: En stor del av resultatet visade på att förberedelser där hela omvårdnadsteamet involveras, kontinuerligt utbyter information med varandra och är förtrogna med varandras yrkesprofessionella färdigheter stärker patientsäkerheten. Resultatet av denna litteraturstudie kan leda till en ökad förståelse för operationsteamets betydelse för patientsäkerheten intraoperativt. / Introduction: Half of all health care-associated injuries occur in conjunction with surgery. The patient care team is a multidisciplinary collaboration where many people from different professions work together in different configurations with patient safety as one of the most important aspects. The operating theatre nurse and the nurse anesthetist are responsible for the patients nursing care before, during and after the surgery. Aim: To describe how the patient care team works intraoperatively regarding the patient safety. Method: An integrated systematic literature study were articles searches where made using the databases Cinahl and PubMed. Eleven articles with quantitative, qualitative and mixed method analysis has been reviewed. Result: The material resulted in three categories: To be prepared, to exchange information with each other and to be familiar with each other’s skills. Conclusion: A large part of the result showed that preparations where the whole patient care team was involved, continuously exchanging information with each other and were familiar with each other’s professional skills enhances the patient safety. The result of this literature study might lead to an increased understanding of the importance of the patient care team for patient safety intraoperatively.

Bakgrund Kronisk obstruktiv lungsjukdom är en sjukdom som är irreversibel och påverkar andningen negativt hos dem som lider av den och visar sig genom ett stort antal symtom. Sjukdomen skapar stort lidande och försvårar förmågan att leva ett normalt liv med hög livskvalité. Det beräknas vara den tredje största dödsorsaken i världen 2030 enligt världshälsoorganisationen. Syfte Att beskriva personers erfarenheter av att leva med Kronisk obstruktiv lungsjukdom  Metod Studien utgörs av en litteraturstudie med fjorton artiklar. Artiklarnas resultat sammanfattades och gick från delarna till en ny helhet. En kvalitetsgranskning och analys utfördes för att skapa resultatet. Resultat Resultatet presenterades med fyra huvudkategorier: Att inte få luft, Förändrad livssituation, Beroende av stöd och Information och hantering. Till huvudkategorierna skapades följande tio underkategorier: Andnöd/andfåddhet, Ångest, Trötthet, Förluster, Skam, Miljöanpassning, Anhöriga, Hjälpmedel, Undervisning och information och Hantering och strategier. Konklusion Litteraturstudien visade att en stor dimension av symtom påverkar personer som lever med Kronisk obstruktiv lungsjukdom. Det behövs vidare forskning angående personers erfarenhet av sjukdomen men denna litteraturstudie har gett en inblick i några av de erfarenheter personerna lever med. / Background Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is an irreversible disease and it’s effecting the breathing in a negative way for those suffering by the disease and it’s shown by many different symptoms. The disease creates big suffering and obstructs the ability to live a normal life with high quality of life. It is expected to be the third largest cause of death worldwide in 2030, according to the World Health Organization. Aim To describe people's experiences of living with chronic obstructive lung disease. Method The study is a literature study with fourteen articles. The result from the articles were summarized and went from parts into a new whole. An inspection of quality and analysis was performed to create the result. Result The result were presented with four main categories: Unable to breathe, Change of way of life, Depending on support, Information and management. To the main categories were ten under categories created:  Shortness of breath/breathlessness, Anxiety, Fatigue, Losses, Adaptation to environment, Relatives, Utilities, Education and information and Management and strategies. Conclusion The literature study showed that there’s a major dimension of symptoms affecting people living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The literature review showed that a large dimension of symptoms are affecting people living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. We need further research on people's experience of the disease, but this study has provided an insight into some of the experiences people are living with.
