No. of bitstreams: 1 Leandro Lauriti.pdf: 1122104 bytes, checksum: 723249c6bdf2f01f0de75515602a5180 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-12-04 / The aim of the present study was to perform an evaluation of the effect of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) on bite force, facial swelling, mandibular movements and pain in patients having undergone surgical treatment for mandibular fracture. The patients were divided into two groups: Group 1 – active LLLT; and Group 2 – sham LLLT. Both groups took anti-inflammatory agents postoperatively. Group 2 underwent the surgical reduction and rigid internal fixation, the use of postoperative an anti-inflammatory agent and sham LLLT with the equipment switched off. Fifteen sessions were performed using the point application methods and wavelength: 660 nm; power; 108 mW; radiant energy: 21.6 J; fluence: 21.6 J/cm2; radiance: 38197 mW/cm2; exposure time: 200 seconds per point. The active laser group received LLLT in the region of the incision and over the masseter (3 points: superior, medial and inferior) and temporal (anterior region) muscles, with five application points on each side, totaling 10 points bilaterally. The Shapiro-Wilk test was used for the analysis of the results and normal distribution was demonstrated. Thus, the Student’s t-test was used to determine inter-group differences and repeated-measures ANOVA was used to determine whether significant differences occurred at different times. The level of significance was set to 5% ( = 0.05). The findings we can see considerable improvement in the group submitted to active LLLT with regard to mandibular dynamics, a reduction in postoperative facial swelling, a reduction in pain and an increase in bite force in comparison to the sham group, which only used postoperative corticosteroids.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Beatriz Guimarães Ribeiro.pdf: 1467862 bytes, checksum: d166e20babcfe778cdc4c7cf5708fc53 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2017-02-23 / The low level laser therapy (LLLT) is a resource capable of modulating in a positive way the different stages of the muscle repair process. However, little has been described about its effects when applied prior to injury, associated or not with post-injury treatment. The general objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of LLLT applied prior to the muscle injury associated or not to the post-injury application on the rat skeletal muscle repair process. The aim of article 1 was to evaluate the effect of infrared LLLT applied prior to cryoinjury on the expression of IL-6, MyoD and myogenin. The aim of article 2 was to evaluate the effect of red and infrared LLLT prior to cryoinjury associated or not with post-injury application on oxidative stress. The aim of article 3 was to evaluate the effect of infrared LLLT applied prior to injury with or without post-injury application on the gene expression and protein synthesis of inflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-6, and muscle morphology. For the three studies, 205 Wistar rats were divided into the following experimental groups: Control; Injury; LLLT 660 nm prior to injury; LLLT 780 nm prior to injury; LLLT 660 nm pre- and post-injury; and LLLT 780 nm pre- and post-injury. The cryoinjury consisted of two applications of cane cooled in liquid nitrogen in the anterior tibial muscle (TA). The injured groups were evaluated at 1, 3, 7 and 14 days after injury (only for oxidative stress analysis, evaluation occurred at 1, 3, and 7 days). LLLT irradiation was performed with the AsGaAl laser (780 nm) at the parameters of 10 J/cm²; 40 mW; 10 seconds per point; 8 points; 3.2 J. At the end of the protocol, TA muscles were carefully removed for analysis of oxidative stress by lipid peroxidation (LPO) by chemiluminescence initiated by t-BOOH, protein oxidation through the carbonyl damage assay, and analysis of antioxidant enzymes: catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx). TNF-α and IL-6 cytokines were analyzed by quantitative real-time PCR for the detection of gene expression. In addition, a morphological analysis was performed by staining with hematoxylin and eosin. TNF-α and IL-6 cytokines were analyzed by ELISA for protein expression. Data were expressed as mean and standard error of the mean because they were parametric and the comparison between the groups was performed by ANOVA/Tukey (p<0.05). The results of article 1 demonstrate a reduction in the levels of IL-6 mRNA in the group irradiated prior to the injury, concluding that the LBP applied prior to injury was able to modulate positively this inflammatory cytokine, but had no effect on the myogenic regulatory factors MyoD and myogenin in the evaluated parameters. The results of article 2 containing the oxidative stress analysis showed that the irradiated groups presented reduction of the lipoperoxidation and positive modulation of the antioxidant enzymes during the muscle repair process, concluding the red and infrared laser were able to modulate positively the oxidative stress, being the most effective infrared laser in the modulation of antioxidant enzymes. The results of article 3 demonstrated a reduction in the gene expression of TNF-α in the group irradiated prior to injury. In the pre-and post-injury irradiated group, IL-6 and TNF-α mRNA levels increased during the skeletal muscle repair process, concluding that the infrared laser was able to positive modulation these inflammatory cytokines in the two forms of application. Therefore, it is concluded that the LLLT irradiated prior to injury associated or not with the post-injury application has a beneficial effect on inflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress during the repair of the skeletal muscle of rats.

Návrh a optimalizace speciálního nízkoúrovňového zesilovače pro měření vzdušných iontů / Design and optimization of special low-level amplifier for measurement of air ions

Zdražil, Lukáš January 2020 (has links)
This Master thesis deals with low-current measurement in order of picoamps up to a few tens of femtoamps. Such low currents measuring is necessary for determination of air ions concentration. Disturbances, which are otherwise negligible for ordinary measurements must be considered. For example, leakage currents and noise generated in measuring device circuit. The choice of a precise operation amplifier with low input bias current is as important as the selection of low noise passive components. The aim of the thesis is to design and implement a precise low-level amplifier for the purposes of air ions concentration measurements.

Zadní část překladače podmnožiny jazyka C pro 8-bitový procesor / Compiler Back-End of Subset of Language C for 8-Bit Processor

Horník, Jakub January 2011 (has links)
A compiler allows us to describe an algorithm in a high-level programming language with a higher level of abstraction and readability than a low-level machine code. This work describes design of the compiler back-end of subset of language C for 8-bit soft-core microcontroller Xilinx PicoBlaze-3. Design is described from the initial selection of a suitable framework to the implementation itself. One of the main reasons of this work is that there is not any suitable compiler for this processor.

Insights Into Wind Profile Characteristics in the Arctic Marine Boundary Layer / Inblick i vindprofilens egenskaper i det Arktiska marina gränsskiktet

Gausa, Charlotte Sophie January 2024 (has links)
The atmospheric boundary layer in the Arctic is essential for the understanding of climate change and improving regional weather prediction. The aim of this study is to investigate to which degree wind speed profiles retrieved in the Arctic agree with well known wind profile concepts and understand which local impact factors influence the wind speed profile. As part of the Nansen Legacy project, scientists from the University Centre in Svalbard and the University of Bergen installed two wind lidars onboard the research vessel “Kronprins Haakon” during the “Winter Process Cruise” in February 2021. Wind speed profiles were collected over a period of two weeks. They were manually classified into three categories based on their shape. The ideally shaped profiles were fitted against the wind profile power law to identify the exponent, α, for use in the Arctic marine boundary layer. α was found to be 4-5 times smaller than the conventionally applied α = 1/7 for profiles retrieved over open water, which was associated with unstable atmospheric conditions. Additionally, α was found to be considerably larger than 1/7 when sea ice was present, which was associated with stable conditions. A dependency on wind speed was also found. These results underline the importance of adjusting the exponent in order to ac- curately model the wind speed in the Arctic marine boundary layer. The results might be important for optimizing potential wind energy production, which is of great interest with the increasing human activ- ity in the Arctic. Reversed profiles (wind speed maxima closest to the surface) were mainly measured over open ocean and during low wind speeds and were speculated to be related to swell conditions. Pro- files containing a maxima in low levels were primarily measured during stable atmospheric conditions when sea ice was present. Future research in Arctic conditions would benefit from extending wind speed measurements to even lower levels and including stability measurements for an even deeper analysis.

Deep Learning Approaches to Low-level Vision Problems

Liu, Huan January 2022 (has links)
Recent years have witnessed tremendous success in using deep learning approaches to handle low-level vision problems. Most of the deep learning based methods address the low-level vision problem by training a neural network to approximate the mapping from the inputs to the desired ground truths. However, directly learning this mapping is usually difficult and cannot achieve ideal performance. Besides, under the setting of unsupervised learning, the general deep learning approach cannot be used. In this thesis, we investigate and address several problems in low-level vision using the proposed approaches. To learn a better mapping using the existing data, an indirect domain shift mechanism is proposed to add explicit constraints inside the neural network for single image dehazing. This allows the neural network to be optimized across several identified neighbours, resulting in a better performance. Despite the success of the proposed approaches in learning an improved mapping from the inputs to the targets, three problems of unsupervised learning is also investigated. For unsupervised monocular depth estimation, a teacher-student network is introduced to strategically integrate both supervised and unsupervised learning benefits. The teacher network is formed by learning under the binocular depth estimation setting, and the student network is constructed as the primary network for monocular depth estimation. In observing that the performance of the teacher network is far better than that of the student network, a knowledge distillation approach is proposed to help improve the mapping learned by the student. For single image dehazing, the current network cannot handle different types of haze patterns as it is trained on a particular dataset. The problem is formulated as a multi-domain dehazing problem. To address this issue, a test-time training approach is proposed to leverage a helper network in assisting the dehazing network adapting to a particular domain using self-supervision. In lossy compression system, the target distribution can be different from that of the source and ground truths are not available for reference. Thus, the objective is to transform the source to target under a rate constraint, which generalizes the optimal transport. To address this problem, theoretical analyses on the trade-off between compression rate and minimal achievable distortion are studied under the cases with and without common randomness. A deep learning approach is also developed using our theoretical results for addressing super-resolution and denoising tasks. Extensive experiments and analyses have been conducted to prove the effectiveness of the proposed deep learning based methods in handling the problems in low-level vision. / Thesis / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Discrete Scale-Space Theory and the Scale-Space Primal Sketch

Lindeberg, Tony January 1991 (has links)
This thesis, within the subfield of computer science known as computer vision, deals with the use of scale-space analysis in early low-level processing of visual information. The main contributions comprise the following five subjects: The formulation of a scale-space theory for discrete signals. Previously, the scale-space concept has been expressed for continuous signals only. We propose that the canonical way to construct a scale-space for discrete signals is by convolution with a kernel called the discrete analogue of the Gaussian kernel, or equivalently by solving a semi-discretized version of the diffusion equation. Both the one-dimensional and two-dimensional cases are covered. An extensive analysis of discrete smoothing kernels is carried out for one-dimensional signals and the discrete scale-space properties of the most common discretizations to the continuous theory are analysed. A representation, called the scale-space primal sketch, which gives a formal description of the hierarchical relations between structures at different levels of scale. It is aimed at making information in the scale-space representation explicit. We give a theory for its construction and an algorithm for computing it. A theory for extracting significant image structures and determining the scales of these structures from this representation in a solely bottom-up data-driven way. Examples demonstrating how such qualitative information extracted from the scale-space primal sketch can be used for guiding and simplifying other early visual processes. Applications are given to edge detection, histogram analysis and classification based on local features. Among other possible applications one can mention perceptual grouping, texture analysis, stereo matching, model matching and motion. A detailed theoretical analysis of the evolution properties of critical points and blobs in scale-space, comprising drift velocity estimates under scale-space smoothing, a classification of the possible types of generic events at bifurcation situations and estimates of how the number of local extrema in a signal can be expected to decrease as function of the scale parameter. For two-dimensional signals the generic bifurcation events are annihilations and creations of extremum-saddle point pairs. Interpreted in terms of blobs, these transitions correspond to annihilations, merges, splits and creations. Experiments on different types of real imagery demonstrate that the proposed theory gives perceptually intuitive results. / <p>QC 20120119</p>

Fizikalna terapija primenom lasera male snage u subakutnom lumbalnom bolnom sindromu / Physical therapy with Low-Level Laser Therapy in subacute low back pain syndrome

Filipov Predrag 14 June 2019 (has links)
Kori&scaron;ćeni su sledeći upitnici: vizuelna analogna skala (VAS), standardizovani upitnici za merenje funkcionalnog ishoda - The Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), The Rolland&amp;Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ) i SF-36 upitnik. Funkcionalna onesposobljenost pacijenata (procenjivana smanjenjem funkcionalne onesposobljenosti ODI i RMDQ) se značajno smanjivala u obe ispitivane grupe pacijenata tokom svih posmatranih perioda ispitivanja. Nema razlika u funkcionalnoj onesposobljenost (SF-36), odnosno nema razlike u kvalitetu života u skorovima fizičko funkcionisanje, ograničenje zbog emocionalnih problema, socijalno funkcionisanje, mentalno zdravlje, telesni bol, energija i vitalnost, sumarni skor fizičkog i sumarni skor mentalnog zdravlja između ispitivanih grupa. Primenom LMS u subakutnom LBS do&scaron;lo je statistički značajnog smanjenja intenziteta bola, povećanja pokretljivosti lumbalne kičme, smanjenja spazma paravertebralne muskulature, kao i smanjenja funkcionalne onesposobljenosti. S obzirom da ne postoji koncenzus oko primene LMS, kao ni drugih metoda fizikalne terapije u subakutnom stadijumu LBS, navedeni rezultati bi mogli doprineti usvajanju kliničkih smernica, odnosno dijagnostičkih i terapijskih protokola za subakutni LBS.</p> / <p>Introduction: Low back pain syndrome (LBP) implies pain in the lumbar or lumbosacral segment of the spine, with or without irradiation into the lower extremities, with a disorder to the function of the lumbosacral part of the spine, a protective muscular reaction to pain (spasm) and possible signs of a sensory processing disorder. Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) has broad application in physical medicine and rehabilitation due to analgesic, antiinflammatory, anti-edematous and biostimulative effects. Objective: The main objective of this study was to determine whether physical therapy with a LLLT has an effect on reducing pain, increasing mobility in the lumbar spine, reducing spasms of the paravertebral muscle, as well as in reducing functional incapacity in subacute LBP. Material and methods: A prospective study was conducted on 123 patients (50 men and 73 women), of different professions, chosen through random selection, with a mean age of 32.59 &plusmn; 5.67 years (examined group 31.87 &plusmn; 5.84, control group 33.31 &plusmn; 5.45, range 19-45). The study included respondents who had experienced lumbar pain syndrome for the first time and who had been examined in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of the Novi Sad Health Center. The examined group consisted of 61 respondents undergoing physical treatment with the application of LLLT and kinesiotherapy with medication therapy. The control group consisted of 62 respondents undergoing physical treatment with the application of kinesiotherapy with medication therapy. All patients were subject to an anamnesis, a clinical examination, a selfassessment of pain and were required to complete questionnaires. The above study was carried out at the beginning of treatment, after 6 weeks, and after treatment was completed. The following questionnaires were used: Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), standardized questionnaires for assessing functional outcomes &ndash; The Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), The Rolland &amp; Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ) and the SF-36 questionnaire. Results: Results indicate that pain intensity assessed using the VAS scale was significantly decreased, in both examined groups, during all observed study periods, where the difference between the two groups was not statistically significant (p = 0.904). Mobility of the lumbar spine was significantly increased, in both examined groups, during all observed study periods, where the obtained difference between the two groups was not statistically significant (p = 0.798). In both examined groups, spasm of the paravertebral musculature significantly decreased during all observed study periods, while the difference between the groups was not statistically significant (p = 0.453). Functional disability of patients (assessed by a reduction of functional disabilities of ODI and RMDQ) significantly decreased in both examined groups of patients during all observed examination periods. The obtained difference in scores assessed via the RMDQ, between the studied patient groups, was not statistically significant (p = 0.648), as well as via the ODI score between the researched groups (p = 0.311). Assessment of functional disability through the assessment of quality of life (SF-36) indicates that the quality of life increased significantly, for all examined scores in both examined groups, during all observed testing periods. There is no difference in functional disability (SF-36), that is, there is no difference in quality of life in score physical functioning, restrictions due to emotional problems, social functioning, emotional wellbeing, bodily pain, energy/vitality, physical and mental health, between the examined groups. The dimensions of quality of life in score role limitations due to physical health problems are significantly better in the control group (p = 0.028). The quality of life dimension in the general health perceptions is significantly better in the examination group (p = 0.041). Conclusions: The application of LLLT in subacute LBP resulted in a statistically significant reduction in pain intensity, increased lumbar spine mobility, decreased spasms of paravertebral musculature, and decreased functional disability. Given that there is no consensus on the use of LLLT, nor any other methods of physical therapy, during the subacute LBP, these results could contribute to the adoption of clinical guidelines, that is, diagnostic and therapeutic protocols for subacute LBP.</p>
