Don't eat the yellow snow : Urin i konsten: om tolkning som händelse

Svendsen, Jens Martin January 2017 (has links)
Don’t eat the yellow snow—Urine in art: events of interpretationUrine seams to evoke feelings. Through four different lenses, this bachelor’s thesisexamines urine in four different works of art. The works of art are Three Grazes bySally Mann, Manneken Pis by Hieronymus Duquesnoy the younger, Fideicommissumby Ann-Sofie Sidén and Bad Bad Boy by Tommi Toija, all of which in some waycontains urine as part of their motif. The four perspectives are The body as abject, Thebody as observed, The body as communication and The body as phenomenon. Thethesis reaches the conclusion that urine must be regarded as part of a syntagm and thissyntagm is interpreted in the light of a culturally conditioned resonance, part of amake-believe culture that can and, as it were, also interpret water as urine. To interpretwater as urine depends on where the water is pouring from in an overall body syntagm.Furthermore, depending on what gender the body is interpreted as (male or female) theurine will carry different value connotations. Interpreting art is thus reverberating aMake-Believe regime as a recursive process. A Make-believe regime in itself containsa phenomenological intention.

The Meaning of Being an Oncology Nurse: Investing to Make a Difference

Davis, Lindsey Ann January 2012 (has links)
The landscape of cancer care is evolving and as a result nursing care continues to develop and respond to the changing needs of oncology patients and their families. There is a paucity of qualitative research examining the experience of being an oncology nurse on an inpatient unit. Therefore, a qualitative study using an interpretive phenomenological approach has been undertaken to discover the lived experience of being an oncology nurse. In-depth tape recorded interviews has been conducted with six oncology nurses who worked on two adult inpatient oncology units. Van Manen’s (1990) interpretive phenomenological approach has been used to analyze the data by subjecting the transcripts to an analysis both line by line and as a whole. The overarching theme of the interviews is: Investing to Make a Difference. The themes that reflect this overarching theme are: Caring for the Whole Person, Being an Advocate, Walking a Fine Line, and Feeling Like You are Part of Something Good. Oncology nurses provide care for their patients through a holistic lens that further enhances how they come to know their patients. Over time, relationships with patients and families develop and these nurses share that balancing the emotional aspects of their work is key in being able to continue to invest in their work and in these relationships. Their investment is further evident as oncology nurses continuously update their knowledge, for example, of treatment regimes, medication protocols, and as they champion their patients wishes and needs. As nurses develop their own identities as oncology nurses, they in turn enhance the team with their emerging skill and knowledge. These research findings serve to acknowledge the meaning of oncology nurses’ work and inform the profession’s understanding of what it means to be an oncology nurse.

A Robust Vehicle Make and Model Recognition System for ITS Applications

Siddiqui, Abdul Jabbar January 2015 (has links)
A real-time Vehicle Make and Model Recognition (VMMR) system is a significant component of security applications in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). A highly accurate and real-time VMMR system significantly reduces the overhead cost of resources otherwise required. In this thesis, we present a VMMR system that provides very high classification rates and is robust to challenges like low illumination, occlusions, partial and non-frontal views. These challenges are encountered in realistic environments and high security areas like parking lots and public spaces (e.g., malls, stadiums, and airports). The VMMR problem is a multi-class classification problem with a peculiar set of issues and challenges like multiplicity, inter- and intra-make ambiguity among various vehicles makes and models, which need to be solved in an efficient and reliable manner to achieve a highly robust VMMR system. To reliably overcome the ambiguity challenges, a global features representation approach based on the Bag-of-Features paradigm is proposed. We extract key features from different make-model classes in an optimized dictionary, through two different dictionary building strategies. We represent different samples from each class with respect to the learned dictionary. We also present two classification schemes based on multi-class Support Vector Machines (SVMs): (1) Single multi-class SVM and (2) Attribute Bagging-based Ensemble of multi-class SVMs. These classification schemes allow simultaneous learning of the differences between global representations of different classes and the similarities between different shapes or generations within a same make-model class, to further overcome the multiplicity challenges for real-time application. Extensive experiments conducted using our approaches yield superior results for images that were occluded, under low illumination, partial camera views, or even non-frontal views, available in a recently published real-world VMMR dataset. The approaches presented herewith provide a highly accurate VMMR system for real-time applications in realistic environments.

Programmering med BBC micro:bit i grundskolan : En studie som syftar till att underlätta programmeringsundervisningen för högstadielärare / Programming with BBC micro:bit in elementary school : A study that aimes to facilitate the teaching of programming

Leifsdóttir, Petra Íris January 2019 (has links)
As of 2018 the Swedish Government has decided that there should be programming in elementary school. The programming should take place in the subjects of mathematics and technics There weren’t a lot of prepared teachers when the law took effect which has made it difficult for the teachers to follow it. In this project I have made a prototype to try to increase the competence in programming for the teachers. Since there is another project in Kronobergs län, Make it happen, that focuses on the use of BBC micro:bit in school I chose to make the prototype for BBC micro:bit and microPython programming to keep in line with that project. The results indicate that a cloud-based tool that contains both an editor and a Swedish documentation might ease the teaching in elementary schools. For more reliable results however I would need to keep developing the prototype to give it more functionalities and a better documentation that contains more information about microPython. There is also need for more user-testing on the targeted group to make the instrument more reliable.

Should we outsource it, or should we mess it up ourselves? : Factors affecting the make-or-buy decision in the sports retail industry: The case of Adidas Sailing

Ericksson, Hanna January 2016 (has links)
Combining concepts regarding the make-or-buy decision, such as Williamson’s (1981) ideas on transaction costs in conjunction with theories of supply chain management, the thesis outlines what factors should be of importance to firms when deciding to make or buy certain processes within the supply chain. Using Porter’s (1985) division of the supply chain into 5 sections we analyze the make-or-buy decisions of Catamaran Sports/Adidas sailing, finding that while many decisions taken match the theory-based predictions, a lot of processes are handled the way they are because of external constraints faced by the firm. In the case of Adidas their main reason for taking certain strategic decisions are to maintain their competitive advantage in the market, which they build on a benefit leadership strategy. This has resulted in them often choosing a production method that has a relatively high accounting cost, compared to what could have been achieved, in order to maintain flexibility, reduce lead times and provide a higher level of service.

A Refined Methodology for Calibrating Premium Connection Make-ups

Ostergaard, Erik Barr 21 March 2013 (has links)
Digital Image Correlation is used to generate high-spatial-density full-field displacement<br />and strain data of a connection box outer diameter for use in the calibration of finite element<br />make-up models. Image acquisition and data processing techniques are discussed and best<br />practice recommendations are made. 3D-wedge models consisting of a twenty-degree sweep of<br />the connection geometry are generated from manufacturer supplied profiles. Deformation<br />plasticity material models are developed from identified minimum strength material coupons.<br />Axisymmetric and 3D meshing schemes are used to capture the geometric complexity, supply<br />enough resolution to represent seal performance, and provide a solution in an acceptable<br />timeframe. Several techniques for achieving good contact resolution are presented. The<br />mechanics of the full 3D connection makeup are decomposed into simple idealized<br />representations. Finite element boundary conditions are developed to adequately represent the<br />360-degree make-up mechanics in a wedge section. The wedge model is loaded to achieve a<br />torque-rotation coupling which satisfies the experimental make-up conditions. This model<br />displays a much improved ability to capture box outer diameter strain and displacement fields,<br />and thus better represents the mechanics of a connection make-up. A 3D inspired axisymmetric<br />pretension loading scheme is developed which enables the 3D-wedge seal conditions to be<br />replicated in a computationally efficient axisymmetric form for connection performance<br />evaluation. Seal metrics are developed and converged to evaluate connection sealing capabilities<br />in the power-tight configuration. Modeling error metrics are developed, and the final 3D-wedge<br />model is evaluated relative to the experimental DIC data. / Master of Science

Beslutet kring make or buy av en företagsfunktion - vilka faktorer ska tas med i beslutet?

Persson, Louisa, Sandberg, Johanna January 2019 (has links)
One of the industries that has major problems with empty running, is the construction industry. Empty running adversely affects the environment and the economy negatively due to an empty backhaul. A company in the construction industry that works to reduce their empty runs is the house manufacturer Eksjöhus. To reduce these, the company regularly collects material for the house production in connection with the return transport. In this study, it is examined whether this approach is the best, or whether they should outsource the material retrieval. To find out which option that is the most advantageous, the study's purpose is to examine which factors companies need to take into account in their make or buy decision, if they should outsource or insource a company function. Three general areas are presented, which are backhaul, outsourcing and insourcing. To evaluate possible outcomes and decide which option is best, a total relationship cost analysis is used. The conclusions drawn, are that companies cannot only take economic factors into account in their outsourcing decision. Companies also need to consider other factors in their decision making, and these factors depends on the specific company and situation. In this case, Eksjöhus should consider customer satisfaction, service, risk, time and environment in their decision making. Therefore Eksjöhus is recommended to outsource the material collection to an external party, but in order to avoid empty transport, they should use digital solutions that can match suitable goods with the return transport.

Stability of W1/O/W2 Double Emulsion Made With Milk Fat and a Simplified Make Procedure and Its Use in Reduced-Fat Cheese

Clayton, Daniel Bradley 01 May 2014 (has links)
As overweight and obesity numbers continue to climb around the world, consumers continue to search for reduced-fat alternatives to foods they often consume. Given that cheese is naturally high in fat, this is one food that is often targeted for fat reduction. However, as fat plays an important functional role in the texture of cheese by breaking up the continuous protein matrix, reduced-fat products tend to be very chewy and rubbery compared to their full-fat counterparts. My study aimed at producing a reduced-fat cheese with improved texture compared to other reduced-fat cheese products by incorporating a double emulsion into the cheese in place of cream. The double emulsion consisted of small water droplets dispersed within oil droplets, which in turn were dispersed within a secondary water phase. The oil droplets that would then be incorporated into the cheese could essentially be made up of 40% water droplets and only 60% fat, allowing for a cheese to be designed with the same number of fat droplets as full-fat cheese while having a 40% fat reduction. In my experiments, I made cheese with varying levels of fat using the double emulsion, along with reduced-fat and full-fat control cheeses that contained oil droplets composed entirely of fat. Though retention of double emulsion in the cheese due to its inherent instability was the key factor, I found that the double emulsion cheeses had similar to improved textural qualities compared to the control cheeses of higher fat.
