Avino būdas / The nature of ram

Špokauskaitė, Rasa 24 January 2013 (has links)
The subject of work is a collection made of nine graphics work carried out in digital printing. The title of cycle is “The nature of ram “. Characters that create entire action of collection are unpredictable, often turning from man to ram. As if the characters were born in the subconscious. One character has many different masks of manner. The ram is as the expression of an object. This collection has nothing in common with this animal. The work is designed for analysis of one human nature. The appropriate character was chosen for presentation without image the human. Sheep ram and lamb is one of the most multiple animals. It perfectly reveals the idea of collection. Personal experiences were kept in a diary and now we can analyze and observe one or another mask of manner in particular situation.

Alternative methods of treating atelectasis in post-operative patients

Al Mutairi, Fouad January 2013 (has links)
Cardiac surgery incisional pain can decrease inspiratory effort, alter normal respiratory mechanics, and increase the potential for post-operative pulmonary complications. Post-surgical atelectasis is the most frequent complication after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), ranging from 54% to 92%. All types of therapy such as an incentive spirometry (IS), deep breathing exercises (DBE) or continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) have a valuable role to play in the prevention or the treatment of post-surgical atelectasis. However, the type of therapy that should be used is not completely clear yet. The present research aims to evaluate the benefit of early use of CPAP via mask therapy to treat or prevent post-surgical atelectasis after CABG, particularly in smokers and elderly patients, as compared to regular (IS) therapy. Also, it aims to evaluate the patients' and medical staff's experience about the use of the new method of CPAP via mask therapy. The present research was conducted at King Fahd Armed Forces Hospital in Saudi Arabia between March 2010 and December 2011. It used a mixed methods approach. The first two studies were intervention quantitative studies, which investigated the benefit of CPAP via mask therapy. The others were qualitative studies that evaluated the experience of patients and medical staff regarding CPAP therapy use.A total of 180 patients (male and female) (36 in each group) participated in the two quantitative studies. Ninety two participants (male and female) participated in the qualitative studies. The first quantitative study results showed an improvement in CPAP via mask therapy for half hours every two hours group measurements as compared to IS therapy groups. IC was increased significantly in the "CPAP every two hours group" as compared to control group (IS) (baseline mean for IS group 1.34L and "CPAP every two hours group" 1.42L, post- therapy mean 1.59L and 1.88L respectively, p= 0.037). In addition, when chest physiotherapy was added to the two regimens, the improvement of CPAP therapy measurements became more than IS therapy. Moreover, the patient’s acceptance rate for CPAP therapy every two hours was 93% and the medical staff acceptance rate was 86%. CPAP via mask therapy for half hour every two hours had better outcomes in treating or preventing post-surgical atelectasis after CABG, particularly in smokers and elderly patients. Adding chest physiotherapy led to even better outcomes. The use of the new method of CPAP therapy had high acceptance rate by the participants and medical staff.

This Thesis presents a study about traditional masks of the popular Brazilian culture and its' appropriation to the technical and creative work of the actor. The research was focused on the universe of the masked performers of the Folias de Reis in Fidalgo and Matozinhos, Minas Gerais. The research first impulse that resulted in this Thesis began with the verification that even if there are a great amount of masks in diverse Brazilian popular culture performances such as Folias de Reis, they are rarely systematically used on theatre performances. The purpose was to verify how the "ways to perform masks" and the "ways of thinking masking" in the Brazilian popular culture performances could contribute to the field of research on acting theatre mask. In order to do this, I present a dialogue between the Folias de Reis? traditional knowledge and the formal knowledge of the performing arts and anthropology fields of studies. By presenting such a dialogue, my intentions are to reflect about questions related to tradition and creation, art and devotion, agency and symbolization, having the purpose to establish points of approximation and distance between those universes. It is attached to this Thesis a DVD with two documentaries about the mainly studied groups, images of Brazilian Folias de Reis and Portuguese and Spanish performance masks / Doutorado / Artes Cenicas / Doutor em Artes

Do entrecruzamento entre as máscaras rituais de Guerreiras e Heroínas, da Artetnografia à Mitodologia em Artes Cênicas, reafirma-se a estreita relação entre as Artes e os campos da Antropologia da Performance e do Imaginário / Abstract: Beginning with a performative writing, this research unveils the braid made from two aesthetic performances: A Batalha das Heroínas (The Battle of the Heroines) and Guerreiras (Warriors). A Batalha das Heroínas (The Battle of the Heroines) performed since 1993 by the women of Tejucupapo, situated in northern Pernambuco, Brazil. The performance restores the XVII century historical episode when for the first time an armed group of women took part in the battles during the Dutch occupation in north-eastern Brazil. The second performance called Guerreiras (Warriors) premiered in 2009 and is a result of the interactions between a group of artists leaded by the researcher and the community of Tejucupapo in an experience called Artethnography. This artethnographic network of artists and community members intended to achieve an understanding of questions involving the personification of the ancestor heroines by the present Tejucupapo women. This personification reveals a state of f(r)iction between the performers and their masks, dialectically opposed to the fiction (modeled), fomenting the concept of the ritual mask of the self and making possible a complex of pedagogical procedures related to scenic creation, the Mythodology in Drama. From the crossing of the ritual masks in Guerreiras and Heroínas, from Artethnography to the Mythodology in Drama, we reaffirm the close relationship between the Arts and the fields of Anthropology of Performance and Imaginary / Doutorado / Artes Cenicas / Doutor em Artes

A criação de máscaras: o desdobramento das formas na cena / The creations of masks: development of forms in the scene

Elisa de Almeida Rossin 08 November 2013 (has links)
This Master\'s thesis is about the reflection on the creation of theatrical masks with the main focus on body-object interaction. It intends to analyze how the plastic dimensions of this object (its design, size, shape, and color) can be characterized as a poetic gesture, and they allow developing distinct qualities of the scenic play. The paper presents a study on the performance beginning from forms, i.e. an analysis of the influence and significance that lines and reliefs have on the body architecture and on physical impulses. Along that line, the mask establishes a relationship to other art forms such as dance, paint, and sculpture, and it respectively widens the boundaries and possibilities of theatrical creation.

Real-Time Instance and Semantic Segmentation Using Deep Learning

Kolhatkar, Dhanvin 10 June 2020 (has links)
In this thesis, we explore the use of Convolutional Neural Networks for semantic and instance segmentation, with a focus on studying the application of existing methods with cheaper neural networks. We modify a fast object detection architecture for the instance segmentation task, and study the concepts behind these modifications both in the simpler context of semantic segmentation and the more difficult context of instance segmentation. Various instance segmentation branch architectures are implemented in parallel with a box prediction branch, using its results to crop each instance's features. We negate the imprecision of the final box predictions and eliminate the need for bounding box alignment by using an enlarged bounding box for cropping. We report and study the performance, advantages, and disadvantages of each. We achieve fast speeds with all of our methods.

LP fiber mode converters using holographic phase mask in photo-thermo-refractive glass

Patil, Aniket 01 January 2014 (has links)
In this study, an investigation was undertaken to research the use of holographic phase masks (HPMs) in photo-thermo-refractive (PTR) glass as mode converters for linearly polarized (LP) fiber modes. A Spatial Light Modulator (SLM) was used to generate higher-order transverse fiber modes LPm,n. Under proper incidence condition on the holographic device, LPm,n modes are diffracted and simultaneously converted into higher order or lower order LP modes. The process was analyzed by imaging the far field on a CCD camera. It is demonstrated that using this novel method of converting transverse fiber modes several combinations of LP modes can be converted to each other with mode conversion efficiencies up to 70%. Mode purities were found to be around 85% for up conversion and around 90% for down conversion, respectively. It is noticed that this approach has several promising applications such as mode multiplexing, beam cleaning and power scaling of higher-order mode fiber lasers and amplifiers by combining mode conversion and beam combining.

Application of Ancillary Data In Post-Classification to Improve Forest Area Estimates In A Landsat TM Scene

Holoviak, Brent Matthew 05 September 2002 (has links)
In order to produce a more current inventory of forest estimates along with change estimates, the Forest Inventory Analysis (FIA) program has moved to an annual system in which 20% of the permanent plots in a state are surveyed. The previous system sampled permanent plots in 10-year intervals by sampling states sequentially in a cycle (Wayman 2001, USDA FIA). The move to an annual assessment has introduced the use satellite technology to produce forest estimates. Wayman et al (2001) researched the effectiveness of satellite technology in relation to aerial photo-interpretation, finding the satellite method to do an adequate job, but reporting over-estimations of forest area. This research extends the satellite method a step further, introducing the use of ancillary data in post-classification. The US Forest Service has well-defined definitions of forest and nonforest land-use in its (FIA) program. Using these definitions as parameters, post-classification techniques were developed to improve forest area estimates from the initial spectral classification. A goal of the study was to determine the accuracy of using readily available ancillary data. US Census data, TIGER street files, and local tax parcel data were used. An Urban Mask was created based on population density to mask out Forested pixels in a classified image. Logistic Regression was used to see if population density, street density, and land value were good predictors of forest/nonforest pixels. Research was also conducted on accuracy when using contiguity filters. The current filter used by the Virginia Department of Forestry (VDoF) was compared to functions available in ERDAS Imagine. These filters were applied as part of the post-classification techniques. Results show there was no significant difference in map accuracies at the 95% confidence interval using the ancillary data with filters in a post-classification sort. However, the use of ancillary data had liabilities depending on the resolution of the data and its application in overlay. / Master of Science
