The Reserch of Print Media Image Construction and Social Exclusion, Taking Female Immigrants for ExampleChao, Tzu-lin 20 July 2011 (has links)
Abstract
Female immigrants from China and south-east Asia who migrate to Taiwan through marriage has showed significant percentage increases in the population of Taiwan. The majority are married to those who are relatively low-educated and in financial difficulties in Taiwan, so the marriage is often thought to be an exchange of money. As the result, among the mass media, it is commonly seen that they are unfairly treated when reported by the mass media in Taiwan.
Owing to a closer attention of the public on the race issues in recent years, the government is actively legislating to ensure the legal rights for the immigrants in Taiwan. Regulated by law, in some researches, the mass media are also found to present a positive image of the female immigrants in their reports. Considering the time and environment differences, this research mainly focuses on the image changing of the female immigrants in Taiwan among the mass media and the social exclusion they have caused. This research takes Content Analysis as the study method to have the complete knowledge of the related news of the female immigrants from China Times, The Liberty Times in, and Apple Daily in the last three years (2008~2011). The following are the issues discussed in this research:
1. How does print media describe female immigrants?
2. What is the image construction of female immigrants in print media?
3. What is the relation between social exclusion and image construction of female immigrants in print media?
In this research, it is found that the image construction of the female immigrants in Taiwan by the newspaper is still presented negatively in most cases. The report direction, topic and image are still giving a negative message on the image construction of the female immigrants in Taiwan. In these reports, they are considered as the belongings of men and the underprivileged minority with low socioeconomic status and suffer from the racial discrimination. In addition, by the cultural exclusion, the female immigrants in Taiwan are excluded from the social system. Although the government are legislating the civil rights to reduce the exclusion, due to the unfavorable image on the media and the amendments of the policies waiting to be approved, it still can¡¦t prevent the female immigrants from being excluded culturally, legally, and even economically.
Key words: female immigrants in Taiwan, social construction, social exclusion, content analysis, media image construction.

The following dissertation is located in South Africa, Pretoria. The aim is to define the Threshold of entry from the South of Pretoria, passing the University of South Africa and via Elandspoort Road and Mears Street. An Urban Design and Centre for Media + Image form the final resolution for the proposal. Education and Display are explored in creating a facility for the University of South Africa and a public and visual venue for Pretoria. Connection and Communication are the theoretical concepts carried through into the design. This is done in order to fully integrate design within a context both locally and internationally. Visual interaction with the building in the following design is a major factor. This is due to the dynamics surrounding the site and already existing movement channels and patterns creating an Urban Environment. The work of Bill Hillier has been consulted in relation to Architecture and Movement. The design approach is one of aknowleding our place in time. This is reflected in the programme for the facility and in the environment and technologies incorporated. Tilt-Up Construction, Post-Tensioned Slabs and Steel Construction are the main building methods. Steel, Glass and Concrete make up the material palette in conjunction with technological advances such as nanotechnology and smart surfaces. Steel and Glass Louvre Systems with Nanotechnology enable Large Screen Display on external Surfaces of the Facility. Copyright 2006, University of Pretoria. All rights reserved. Mediální obraz Jiřího Kajínka od roku 1993 do současnosti / Media representation of Jiri Kajinek from 1993 until present dayCharvátová, Anna January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to show how the image of Jiří Kajínek in the media changed over time, from the time he was first identified as a suspect in a double murder in November 1993 until the spring of 2017 when President Miloš Zeman pardoned him. The work also follows a period of one year after the granting of a pardon in order to capture changes in the presentation of Jiří Kajínek in the media. This thesis should also respond to the question of whether Jiří Kajínek was presented by the media as a celebrity after his release. To determine how the media informed about Jiří Kajínek, a quantitative analysis was used, the last period, ie the period of one year after Jiří Kajínek's release from prison, was further analyzed by qualitative method, specifically the framing method. I analyzed texts from three daily newspapers, Právo, Mladá fronta DNES and Blesk. Among other things this research showed that in the course of the change in Jiří Kajínek's presentation, instead of interpreting his persona as a murderer and recidivist with two examined newspapers - Mladá fronta DNES and Blesk - there were discovered other interpretations, such as interpretation as victim or as a celebrity. In the newspaper Právo the interpretations did not change so significantly. Jiří Kajínek's interpretation as a...

The diploma thesis entitled "Image of President Donald Trump in the Czech News Agency" closely examines how the Czech News Agency provided information to the Czech readers about the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump whose time in office (January 20 2017 until January 20 2021) brought a number of changes and controversies. One of the most notable one to mention are the US withdrawal from The Paris Climate Agreement or the accusation that the Republican president secretly cooperated with Russia before a unanticipated victory in 2016 elections. The research of Trump's media image in the public agency CTK is based on quantitative analysis of topics as well as a qualitative approach to evaluating the tonality of each individual article.

Medias inramning av Nordkorea : En studie av nyhetsmediers representation av Nordkorea / Media framing of North Korea : A study of the representation of North Korea in news mediaNguyen, Catalena January 2019 (has links)
Representations have a significant part in our everyday lives as they shape our understanding of the world and are related to the construction of knowledge and the formation of social relations between different cultural groups. Previous studies have questioned the objectivity of news media and representations and argued that representations are not as objective as they often claim to be. Conscious and unconscious choices such as what is to be emphasized, included, excluded, choices of words, examples, metaphors, the journalist's background and more are examples of what makes the neutrality and objectivity of news reporting questionable. This argument is further strengthened by emphasizing that news production and its consumption is neither isolated nor independent and is influenced by different levels of power. The production of news is therefore a complex interaction between different stakeholders that influence what is interesting and newsworthy to be published because in the end, news is a product to be sold. This study examines the geographical representation of North Korea in the news media with a frame perspective. Framing has in this study been interpreted as a way of representing and is understood as a framework that frames a news subject and sets the tone on how the news subject can be interpreted and understood by the receiver. The empirical data, collected from two Swedish and two South Korean digital newspapers from two time periods, April 2017 and April 2018, were analyzed using a combination of a frame analysis and a content analysis. The conclusion of this study is that there are to some extent differences on how the news media in Sweden and South Korea choose to frame North Korea. During the two time periods, the Swedish news medias makes generally a more negative representation of North Korea compared to the South Korean news medias. But overall are the frames used by the news media in both countries reflected by the situation in North Korea and the world.

Doteky z říše za zrcadlem. / Wonderland behind the looking-glass and its touchBrdička, Vojtěch January 2011 (has links)
This work is the structured indictment of mediality in us. It argues that media do not satisfy us, nor we are controlled by them. We are much rather satisfied and at the same time controlled by the mediality inside ourselves. Mediality phenomenon is postulated here in the spirit of Jean Baudrillard's theory, not as a mediator of the relations between people, but as their killer. The expansion of digital media doesn't bring us closer to others, but it separates others from us in time and space. The others are transmitted to us only in the form of selected mosaic of images. This alienation is the result of a desire for our own particular worlds, not the conspiracy of power. Efficiency, speed, focus on result and positive thinking are the values that define the orientation of media development. The result is not imitation, but perfection. That's why we use the media. It lures us by the promise of immortality, but in conclusion it only creates a lifeless sign from us. Every human desire is ambivalent, and the desire to create our own post-mortem images can become in its hypertrophy the fatal fulfilment of the death instinct.
