No. of bitstreams: 1 MARCELO FONTENELLE E SILVA_DISSERTAÇÃO.pdf: 2339486 bytes, checksum: 75123371d434b5b155701c71424671ed (MD5) Previous issue date: 2017-05-19 / CAPES / Maria Aragão was the center of a plenty of tributes and bibliografic references, particularly in the end of 1980s and after her death, in 1991, constituting herself as one of acknowledged character of Maranhão. Such productions were developed based on the great achievements of Maria, often mentioning her simultaneous condition as a physician, "communist leader" and a well regarted person. In an attempt of staying away of these usual stance among her biographers, the present research takes, as resources and object, parts of these tributes, biographic and autobiographic references, especially those ones produced between 1988 and 1992, with the aim of analyse the construction of the memory and public identity of this figure. It is also concerned in analyse how the dispute for the (re)construction of the past of the Maranhao State were unfolded, the process that alowed her to achieve such a prestigious position and parts of the dispute that she and her biographers envolved themselves before and during the production of such documents. Therefore, the present analyses brings up considerations about trajetory of Maria Aragão; agreements, disagreements and attempts of her own world view imposition to the space in which she was identified, always respecting the relational character of these definitions, that may vary depending on the position of each agent and how are developed the symbolic exchanges involving the attempts of appropriation of her "legacy".

Divining for meaning and searching for a female literary identity in Alice Munros Lives of girls and women and Margaret Laurences The diviners / Divining for meaning and searching for a female literary identity in Alice Munros Lives of Girls and Women and Margaret Laurences The Diviners

Ana Luiza Sardenberg 24 March 2014 (has links)
This dissertation aims at investigating how Alice Munro and Margaret Laurence appropriate canonical genres, specifically the Bildungsroman and the Künstlerroman, to subvert them and represent different versions of the female subject through autobiographical novels written by women. The investigation focuses on two novels: Lives of Girls and Women (1971), by Alice Munro, and The Diviners (1974), by Margaret Laurence. In Alice Munros novel, the strategies of the blurring of genres, the idea that reality perspectives change according to the experience and memory of each individual, as well as an emphasis on the development of the protagonist as an individual and as a writer are matters amply discussed. In Margaret Laurences novel, the emphasis on the subjective aspect of memory, the deconstruction of gender stereotypes and the renegotiation of the representation of the female subject to the achievement of an autonomous female identity in life and art are the main issues debated. This dissertation intends to show how the representation of the female identity is redefined by two Canadian writers who appropriated dominant discourses in order to subvert them and then, rewrite their histories

Memória e identidade: ensino de italiano como LE na era pós-método / Memory and identity: teaching of Italian as FL in the Post method Era

Nayra de Paiva Oliveira 13 September 2016 (has links)
As a Foreign Language (FL) teacher, the question which arises is: how to teach? Is there a more effective method? Kumaravadivelu (2003 and 2008) presents theories about the Post method, and he emphasizes the importance of not centralizing the teaching based on methods, but according to the needs of the students and the context they are into. For this, the author presents parameters for teaching, macrostrategies and microstrategies. Based on his theories, this research was elaborated as a way to put into practice his assumptions, for the teaching of Italian as a FL. First of all, it was analyzed the story of the city which the students live, Cascavel, in Paraná. The city was colonized by descendants of Italian immigrants who came from Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul and it is possible to notice the influence of this immigration in the city through feasts, food and the study of Italian Language. From the analyzes of this context, it was realized the importance of considering the story of the city inside the story of the students, pondering their memories and formation of the identities, insofar as the identity is built in society. Thus, it was explained theories about identity and memory. After that, it was made an analysis of the two books: Magari! and Nuovo Progetto 2. The objective was to find activities about memory, identity and immigration; nevertheless it is possible to notice the topics do not appear a lot. Finishing the research, it was elaborated activities to teach Italian Language as FL which talk about the Italian immigration to Cascavel, relating them with memory and identity, according with the assumptions of the Post Method. The purpose it is to help teachers and researchers showing them a starting point to work in a way to attend the needs of the students in the region.

Posedlost pamětí: Modiano, Perec, Sebald / Obsessed by Memory: Modiano, Perec, Sebald

Hřídelová, Nina Justina January 2019 (has links)
This thesis is based on the theoretical framework of memory studies and deals with the question of memory and trauma representation in the prose works of Patrick Modiano, Georges Perec and W. G. Sebald. The thesis analyses a number of their works and focuses on the possibilities and difficulties of representing the traumatic experience of the Holocaust as well as the tension between the authors' personal memory and the collective and cultural memory expressed in post-war literature. Looking at the individual texts, the thesis traces various signs of traumatic narrative displayed in them, such as hypertrophied memory motifs and instruments, disruptions of linear chronology or a specific register that makes elements of extreme experience penetrate into the everyday. The thesis reaches two conclusions: first, that the traumatic narrative scheme is firmly tied to narration per se and reveals its transformative potential; second, that by means of the tools of traumatic narration, the authors find common ground in the ethical imperative of testimony.

The desired dwelling - Continuity as critique : Cultural heritage and retaining the past as a radical domestic strategy

Lindeberg Emin, Ida January 2022 (has links)
Throughout history cities were built out of what could be found and salvaged from previous ancestors while having a continuation with the past by readapting structures to fit new functions. A constant state of development is threatening our built environment where a large stock of existing buildings are facing demolition if they are not reused to fit our contemporary ways of living. Today’s method of ploughing through historic buildings to make room for new development and careless renovations often forgets about our cultural heritage, memory and identity. The aim of this thesis is to investigate how different strategies of reuse within architecture can help to retain a sense of continuity with the past as a way of creating for the future with the focus of social sustainability. How can we retain a sense of continuity with the past as a way of creating for the future? And why should we retain a continuity with the past?Through literature reviews and case studies, the thesis collects knowledge from praised architecture practices working with the emerging discipline of reuse with highly social awareness. Together with the theory of Adhocism, the thesis provides a deeper understanding behind the methods of reuse within architecture in order to fully grasp the reasoning of why it’s important to retain a sense of continuity with the past.Through methods of extension, conversion and user-led, or vernacular, transformation the case studies provide tools for how we can create unique and intriguing spaces from our already existing built environment, thus retaining a sense of the past while designing for the future. The regeneration of buildings creates a sense of pride and responsibility to continue to cultivate our built heritage for generations to come.

The 'Passiones' of St. Kilian : cult, politics and society in the Carolingian and Ottonian worlds

Thornborough, Joanna January 2015 (has links)
The subject of this thesis is the relationship between hagiography and cult in the early medieval west taken through the example of the Passiones of St. Kilian of Würzburg († 689) in the period from circa 700 to circa 1000 AD. Through examining a cult which developed east of the Rhine, this thesis will assess these developments taking place in a region without a strong Christian-Roman history. Thuringia produced new saints and cults in this period, yet they all operated within the overarching framework of the well-established religious phenomenon of saints' cults. In its approach, this thesis builds upon the insights of Ian Wood, James Palmer and others, in which saints' Lives are viewed as ‘textual arguments' which could operate beyond cultic contexts. This is combined with the cultural context approaches advocated in geographically specific studies by the likes of Julia Smith, Thomas Head and Raymond Van Dam. By paying particular attention to the impact of updating saints' Lives this thesis provides an in depth comparison of the relatively overlooked two earliest passiones of St. Kilian and their place in the history of the Würzburg community. It therefore addresses the nature and function of hagiography and its relationship with the institutional memory and identity of that community. The spread of cult through texts and relics is compared with the distribution of the hagiography in order to form a picture of the relationship between these different facets of cult. The question of the way in which these passiones engaged with their wider political and religious contexts is also addressed in order to demonstrate the functions of hagiography outwith an immediate cultic context.
