Geology and mineralization of the stikine assemblage, Mess Creek area, northwestern British Columbia

Holbek, Peter Michael January 1988 (has links)
The Stikine Assemblage in the Mess Creek area consists of Mississippian aged, variably altered, deformed, metamorphosed and mineralized schists, phyllites and greenstones. Original lithologies were mafic pyroclastics and epiclastics, felsic volcanic breccias to crystal-lithic ash tuffs, graphitic sediments, and gabbroic sills. Regional dynamothermal metamorphism to lower greenschist facies occurred between Late Permian and Middle Triassic time. Four phases of deformation are recognised including two early phases of northwesterly trending isoclinal, recumbent folding followed by easterly trending kink bank and chevron style folding, and northerly trending parallel-style folding. The first phase of folding was synchronous with metamorphism and produced a penetrative axial planar foliation. Second phase folds significantly outlasted thermal effects and produced a locally pronounced crenulation cleavage. Third and fourth phase folding also affected overlying Late Triassic sediments and could be related to terrane collision in Early Jurassic time. Three stages of plutonism occurred within the Mess Creek area. Potassium-argon and rubidium-strontium dates from plutons of the Hickman batholith indicate Early to Middle Triassic ages for quartz diorites and a Middle Jurassic age for quartz monzonites. Alkalic, generally syenitic plutons, commonly associated with porphyry Cu-Au deposits yield Early Jurassic ages. Gold and silver mineralization is hosted by structurally controlled quartz and quartz-carbonate veins and associated alteration. Two ages of alteration have been identified. Widespread and commonly conformable silicification and potassium metasomatism, characterized by a quartz-muscovite- carbonate assemblage, is pre-kinematic and attributed to volcanogenic hydrothermal systems. Foliation-parallel quartz veins associated with this alteration are ubiquitous but generally barren of precious metals. Later alteration, which consists of intense carbonatization, silicification and sericitization, is fracture controlled and commonly hosts gold and silver bearing veins that cut all deformation fabrics. Gangue and alteration mineralogy includes ankerite, siderite, quartz, albite, muscovite, fuchsite, chlorite, manganiferous dolomite, barite and lanthanide group phosphates. Ore mineralogy includes pyrite, sphalerite, tetrahedrite, arsenopyrite, chalcopyrite, galena, silver and bismuth tellurides, electrum and gold. Sulphide concentrations within veins range from massive to sparsely disseminated. Hydrogen metasomatism associated with mineralization produced compositional changes within host rocks that include the removal of Ca and Na and the addition of K and H. Precipitation of quartz, carbonates and sulphides was caused by a pH increase due to hydrolysis reactions with wall rocks. Potassium-argon and rubidium-strontium dating of alteration and mineralization yields Early Jurassic ages, which coincide with regional alkalic plutonism and possible time of tectonic accrection of allochthonous terranes. / Science, Faculty of / Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences, Department of / Graduate

Hyperbolicité et bouts des graphes de Schreier / Hyperbolicity and ends of Schreier graphs

Vonseel, Audrey 26 September 2017 (has links)
This thesis is devoted to the study of the topology at infinity of spaces generalizing Schreier graphs. More precisely, we consider the quotient X/H of a geodesic proper hyperbolic metric space X by a quasiconvex-cocompact group H of isometries of X. We show that this quotient is a hyperbolic space. The main result of the thesis indicates that the number of ends of the quotient space X/H is determined by equivalence classes on a sphere of computable radius. In the context of group theory, we show that one can construct explicitly groups and subgroups for which there are no algorithm to determine the number of relative ends. If the subgroup is quasiconvex, we give an algorithm to compute the number of relative ends.

Vivência jurídica / Laws experience

Cadore, Rodrigo Garcia 25 May 2011 (has links)
A aprendizagem jurídica requer vivência. / Juridical analisys must follow law experience instead of theories and systematizations regarding to a hypothetical Science of Law. The postulation for a gnoseologic rupture between ontological (Sein) and deontological (Sollen) ambits lacks of meaning. Appearing as a experience, law is not a normativity species (ideality) located on a place disattached from reality, even when considering people submited to judicial judgments authority, which are capable of obliging them. Normativity dogma and normativism syndrome must be repelled, in a way to show that, before judges interpretation and decision, there is no such thing like a valid law to be applied. Laws variability and mutability must be assumed, rejecting systematic perspectives, either those which insist on defending law as a system, or those willing to build a sistematic knowledge concerning to juridic dispositions. Juridic apprenticeship requires experience. It has to be totally inserted into law, in order to experience it in constant change, and always locate it between the not yet and the not even more. Based on Czesaw Miosz poetry inspiration, the present dissertation, written in essays format, intend to offer subsidies to overthrow some widespread theories localized in what they call science of law, in a way to deny its scientificity and juridicity, as well as suggest some ideas to be considered in law thematization, planning on contributing to a reorganization of juridic studies.

Studium použitelnosti písků pro přípravu porobetonu v hydrotermálních podmínkách / Study of usabiliti of sands for preparation of aeroconcrete in hydrotermal condition

Straka, Radek January 2010 (has links)
A building industry is expanding branch all the time and it intervenes in the life of everyone. Aeroconcrete is very attractive and actual subject nowadays because economy is important point of view of production. This material finds a wide-spread use thanks to its specific properties. The good manipulation and great thermal insulating properties are secured by its porous structure. Furthermore, proper material selection provides a saving of power of house for every customer demands. Due to aeroconcrete's sufficient compressive strength it is useful for both constructions and internal walls. Fundamental and very important for final material properties is raw material composition of aeroconcrete. A relationship between composition of filler (quartz sand) and resultant properties of aeroconcrete is an objective of the thesis.

Perspectives of multimode fibers and digital holography for optogenetics

Czarske, Jürgen W., Haufe, Daniel, Koukourakis, Nektarios, Büttner, Lars 08 August 2019 (has links)
Optogenetic approaches allow the activation or inhibition of genetically prescribed populations of neurons by light. In principle, optogenetics offers not only the ability to elucidate the functions of neural circuitry, but also new approaches to a treatment of neurodegenerative diseases and recovery of vision and auditory perception. Optogenetics already has revolutionized research in neuroscience. However, new methods for delivering light to three-dimensionally distributed structures e.g. in the brain are necessary. A major hurdle for focusing light through biological tissue is the occurring scattering and scrambling of the light. We demonstrate the correction of the scrambling in a multimode fiber by digital optical phase conjugation with a perspective for ptogenetics.
