La industria del sector de restaurantes ha venido siendo una de las de mayor crecimiento en el Perú, incrementando también de forma continua la oferta y la competencia. Las estrategias diseñadas en el sector han estado basadas principalmente en la calidad del servicio, ofertas y productos; pero los procesos detrás de estas estrategias han resultado muchas veces operativamente ineficientes, afectando directamente los márgenes del negocio; algo que ha sido observado por cada una de las empresas activas. Durante los últimos años, y sobre todo en el 2020 debido a la coyuntura presentada por el COVID-19, esta industria también se ha visto afectada por la ralentización de la economía y paralización de los mercados, evidenciando las falencias operativas y resaltando los sobrecostos, acentuando aún más la necesidad de crear economías de escala como parte de sus estrategias. Con el objetivo de optimizar costos, los restaurantes han encontrado un aliado en la transformación digital de sus procesos, incrementando de forma natural el número de proyectos de tecnología requeridos, exigiendo mejores resultados y una gestión mas eficiente, lo cual ha generado diversas oportunidades de mejora en la ejecución, sobrecostos de la gestión y procesos que conviven de forma no estandarizada. El presente trabajo de investigación propone el diseño e implementación de una oficina de gestión de valor, alineada con los valores de la organización, basada en el uso de prácticas agiles y lean para la gestión de proyectos de tecnología, con procesos definidos y la generación de valor como prioridad. / The restaurant sector industry has been one of the fastest growing in Peru, leading to the continuous increase of the offer and competition. This sector's designed strategies have been based mainly on service quality, offers, and products, but the processes behind these strategies have often been operationally inefficient, directly affecting business margins, something that the active companies have perceived. Lately, especially in 2020, due to the COVID-19 situation, this industry has also been affected by the slowdown in the economy and the paralysis of the markets; showing the operational shortcomings and highlighting cost overruns, furthermore, accentuating the need to create economies of scale as part of their strategies. To optimize costs, restaurants have found an ally in the digital transformation of their processes, increasing the number of required technology projects naturally, demanding better results and more efficient management, which has generated various improvement opportunities in the execution, cost management, and processes that coexist in a non-standardized way. This research work proposes the design and implementation of a value management office aligned with the organization's values, based on the use of agile and lean practices for the management of technology projects, with defined processes and the generation of value as a priority. / Trabajo de investigación

The Moderating Influence of Social Media on the Relationship Between Perceptions of Police and Community Violence Among African American Men

African American males experience homicides significantly higher than other groups throughout the United States. More African Americans are victims of violence, especially deadly violence, compared to any other racial or ethnic group. While research has been conducted on the association between perceptions of police and violence among African American men ages 18 to 44, no research exists on whether social media use moderates this association among African American men ages 18 to 44. This quantitative, cross-sectional study included 45 African American men. The Past Feelings and Act of Violence (PFAV) instrument, the Perceptions of Police (POP), and the Social Media Use Integration Scale were used to measure violence, perceptions of police and social media use, respectively. Overall, participants did not have high levels of violence, had poor perceptions of police, and did not have high dependence on social media use. Study results showed a significant association between perceptions of police (F=5.271; p=.027) and community violence, where perceptions of police explained 30% of the variance in community violence scores. This study also showed that social media use did not moderate the association between perceptions of police and violence. In addition to continuing to research what factors moderate the association between perceptions of police and community violence, findings in this study could inform strategies and interventions that seek to change African American men's perceptions of police. Interventions should focus on improving relationships between African American men and law enforcement, as well as work to improve perceptions that African American men have regarding police.

Perceptions and Experiences of Students Who Withdrew from College Prior to Degree Attainment

Nationally an estimated 41% of traditional students who begin seeking an undergraduate degree do not persist through degree attainment. Guided by Tinto's theory of student departure and the theory of social integration, the purpose of this study was to identify the reasons students withdrew from college prior to degree completion. A qualitative case-study design was implemented, and 13 former college enrollees were purposefully selected for individual semistructured interviews. The students graduated from one high school in the Southeastern United States. Data analysis was conducted using open coding procedures with iterative recategorization to identify key themes. Findings indicated that inadequate preparation, lack of guidance, and ineffectual support structure as high school students contributed to subsequent early withdrawal from college. As former college enrollees, participants identified mandatory enrollment in remedial courses, lack of maturity, and a lack of nonacademic support services as causes that led to early withdrawal. Based on these findings, leading recommendations for high schools include providing more rigorous coursework and higher academic expectations. Recommendations for colleges and universities include strengthening academic and social support systems for first-year students. These results may encourage high school leaders and educators to design and implement strategies to improve college readiness initiatives, retention programs, and support services in institutions of higher education.

Cyberbullying Victimization: The Lived Experiences of Parents

Cyberbullying continues to be a rising problem facing many households. As teenagers are the primary victims of cyberbullying, it is ultimately up to victims' parents to mediate and address cyberbullying incidents. The purpose of this qualitative inquiry was to explore the lived experiences of parents who had addressed and/or mediated an incident following their adolescent's cyberbullying victimization. Bandura's self-efficacy theory was the theoretical framework that guided this study. Participants were recruited using purposeful sampling. Individual semistructured telephone interviews were held with 9 participants who were parents of adolescent cyberbullying victims. Themes were generated and data were analyzed using Colaizzi's method of descriptive data analysis. This analysis involved a multistep process to inductively develop themes from participant responses. Findings revealed that participants experienced negative emotions as a result of their teens' victimization. Results further revealed that despite a lack of preparedness, participants found their efforts to intervene in the cyberbullying incident to be effective. Themes emerging from the study highlight participants' desire to raise awareness regarding cyberbullying. The impacts that the cyberbullying incident had on the parent-adolescent relationship were also documented in this study. This study provided an opportunity for participants to share their perceived self-efficacy in responding to incidents of adolescent cyberbullying. Findings from this study may be used to promote positive social change by informing various professionals of the challenges that parents face in addressing cyberbullying incidents.

Influence of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Policy on Army Families' Food Insecurity

Food insecurity (not having continuing access to nutritious food to maintain health) is common in the United States, especially in working poor households. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a well-documented safety net for individuals and families struggling with food insecurity. Little is known about the effect of SNAP policy on food insecurity in working poor military households. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to investigate the lived experiences of food-insecure Army families and the perceived influence of SNAP policy on their food-insecurity. The theoretical framework was policy feedback theory. Data were collected from semistructured interviews with 13 Army heads of households. Data were coded and categorized to identify 3 themes: impact of Army culture, federal programs as stabilization, and limiting SNAP policy. Participants struggle with food insecurity due to unique aspects of military culture, such as transition, and the limitations of current SNAP policy. Findings may be used to inform policymakers of the influence of SNAP policy on food insecurity in the U.S. Army.

The Influence of Public Policy Interventions on Millennial Distracted Driving Behavior

Despite recent public policy initiatives limiting or banning forms of distracted driving resultant from cellular phone use, crashes remain on the rise. Individuals from the millennial generation, ages 16 to 35, appear to be most susceptible to distracted driving. Understanding the behaviors, attitudes, and habits of millennials is critical to developing effective policy for behavior change. A dual task ethnographic study framed by Skinner's theory of behavior modification and Maslow's hierarchy of needs motivational model, was used to investigate to what extent millennials feel public policy has influenced their driving, and if additional policy initiatives are required to deter distracted driving behavior. Two phases of inquiry, first, naturalistic observation, and then focus group were conducted at a commuter university. Distracted driving behaviors including hand held cellular phone use, eating, drinking, and passenger interaction of 100 drivers entering or exiting campus were observed, tracked, and analyzed using a researcher-developed tracking form. Eighty-four percent exhibited at least one distracted driving behavior. After which, 12 enrolled and licensed students, aged 18-35, were recruited via social media for two focus group discussions. Focus group data were inductively coded and analyzed using semantical attribution analysis. The students revealed that millennial drivers felt distracted driving policy did not address behaviors they see as worthy of intervention, they did not perceive that cellular phone use while driving posed a significant threat, and they felt current law was difficult to enforce with penalties they regarded as non-prohibitive. Social change implications include improved distracted driving public policy, which may result in driving behavior changes and a potential reduction of death, injury, and property loss.

Marital Status and Burdensomeness as Risk Factors of Suicide Ideation in Poststroke Patients

Suicide ideation, suicide attempts, and suicide (SISAS) are increased in poststroke patients, yet not everyone who has suffered a stroke is at risk for SISAS. Two risk factors for SISAS, marital status and burdensomeness, may be of particular relevance to poststroke patients. The majority of poststroke patients have a disability that may require help from a family member with basic functions such as dressing and bathing. It was not known if being married decreases risk of SISAS for stoke victims as shown in studies with nonpoststroke subjects or increases risk for SISAS due to its influence on feelings of burdensomeness. Guided by the interpersonal psychological theory of suicidal behavior, the purpose of this study was to examine if marital status moderates the association between burdensomeness (measured by disability level) and suicide ideation. A secondary analysis was performed of the Outcome and Assessment Information Set data, which was collected by the National Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. A data sample of 1,596,962 records was obtained. This data sample included 5% of the Home Health Outcome Information and Assessment Set for the year 2008. Of those, 8,6381 (5.4%) individuals had suffered a stroke. The results suggested partial support for the hypotheses presented in this study. However, a significant moderation was found. As burdensomeness increased, suicide ideation increased in patients who were married. High levels of burdensomeness increase suicide risk to those who are married. Identifying a vulnerable population can provide potential positive social change by serving as basis for future research regarding program implementation in reducing suicide rates.

Black Male Probationers' Perceptions of Juvenile Probation Officers' Role in Reducing Recidivism

The high recidivism rate of Black male juvenile offenders is a problem in the United States that continues to be of great concern. Probation has gained popularity as being a means of addressing and reducing the high recidivism rates of juvenile offenders. However, there is a lack of research regarding Black male juvenile probationers' perceptions of their probation officers' role in reducing their recidivism. This study examined the following: a) the predictive relationships between Black male probationers' perceptions of their probation officers, their perceptions of the probation officers' job, and their recidivism within 3 years of being place on probation; and (b) Black male probationers' perceptions of their probation officers, their perceptions of the probation officers' job, and their ratings of the probation officer's effectiveness in deterring their recidivism. Ecological systems theory was used as the theoretical foundation for guiding this research. Results from a logistic regression analysis showed that Black male probationers' perceptions of their probation officers and the job of their probation officers did not predict their recidivism. The study has implications for social change because the results provide empirical evidence regarding Black male probationer's perceptions of their probation officers and recidivism. Human services professionals, leaders in the criminal justice field, and policy makers could use findings from the study to advocate for the need to develop training programs for probation officers that foster positive relationship building between probationers and probation officers. The positive relationships may subsequently bring social change by reducing recidivism among Black juvenile male offenders.

Satisfaction and Use: Comparing First-time Victims and Victims of Multiple Sexual Assaults

Sexual assault advocacy services are intended to support and empower victims during the aftermath of an assault. This study's purpose was to identify sexual assault victims' use and satisfaction with victim advocacy services, and to compare those outcomes in first-time victims and victims of multiple sexual assaults. The goal was to determine if victims of multiple sexual assaults would seek services again due to satisfaction after receiving prior sexual assault advocacy services. Guided by empowerment theory, this study purported that victim satisfaction and seeking additional services would promote coping and empowerment for the victims and result in positive social change. Quantitative data were analyzed using the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research with inclusion criteria of female, sexual assault victim, age 18 years or older, and being African American or Caucasian. The number of previous sexual assaults, use and satisfaction with victim advocacy services, and participant demographics were analyzed using inferential tests. A Chi-square test of independence examined the relation between victims of multiple sexual assaults and their use of victim advocacy services during the most recent assault, and revealed that victims of multiple sexual assaults were more likely to seek medical services during the most recent assault than they were to seek legal or sexual assault crisis center services. This finding suggests areas of improvement for victim advocacy services, specifically in improving the dissemination and collaboration of services among the medical, legal, and sexual assault crisis center communities. The findings from this study may help to evolve victim advocacy services, thereby increasing sexual assault victims' satisfaction with and use of services.

Correlating Residual Stress with Personal and Professional Characteristics in Aircraft Pilots

Every day aircraft pilots must successfully resolve significant inflight situations and then manage the possibility of residual psychological and physiological stress. Previous research has shown primary attention is given to presignificant event training and stress management, however there remains an important gap in the current literature regarding postsignificant event stress within the aviation profession. The purpose of this cross-sectional quantitative study was to use the observational lens of stress theory and survey U.S. pilots who have experienced an inflight emergency, looking for correlation between factors such as age, gender, flight experience, and training against a pilot's self-reported level of residual stress. Using snowball sampling methodology, 101 pilots were anonymously surveyed, with 89% responding that they had some level of residual stress via the Impact of Event Scale-Revised instrument. Using multiple linear regression analysis, the correlation between 9 personal and professional characteristics and pilot's stress level was significant, at R2 =.22, adjusted R2=.14, F(9, 91) = 2.8, p < .01. The sample's correlation coefficient was .47, indicating that approximately 22% of the variance in the residual stress was accounted for by the 9 personal and professional characteristics. Findings from this research will help clarify how pilot training and demographics can affect postsignificant event stress. This knowledge will be an important contribution to the existing literature and enhance social initiatives though an increased awareness of residual stress within the pilot profession. The results can be used to increase aviation safety by enabling the industry and government entities to develop and implement effective stress training initiatives.
