Design, Test, Calibration and Qualification of Satellite Sun Sensors, Power Systems and Supporting Software Development

Gavigan, Patrick 30 May 2011 (has links)
This thesis describes technologies developed for nanosatellites at the Space Flight Laboratory. A critical ground station component, the Terminal Node Controller, was upgraded in order to support Generic Nanosatellite Bus and future missions. Sun sensor requirements and operation were reviewed, followed by details of the author's work in executing the acceptance testing on these parts, including thermal shock testing, thermal functional testing, calibration, system level testing and on orbit commissioning. A new calibration test process was developed, along with supporting structure and software to ease the testing process, producing accurate calibration parameters and expected performance results for the sensors. A thermal qualification campaign was completed, demonstrating that sun sensors are capable of functioning with negligible performance degradation after exposure to extreme temperatures. A process for installing the sun sensor pin hole was developed using photolithography. Finally, power subsystem analysis for the NEMO-AM mission is presented.

Dynamická prostorová paměť u 4 letých dětí / Dynamic spatial memory in 4-year children

Lokajíčková, Veronika January 2014 (has links)
The subject of the thesis is a research focused on the part of dynamic spatial memory. In the research there have been made simple scenarios, which were carried out by a selected group of four year old children. Objective of the work is to determine the extent of dynamic spatial memory in the sample of four year old children on the basis of obtained theoretical knowledge. Furthermore, to determine the quality of dynamic spatial memory in four year old children and find extent of remembering instructions (mixed communication). Based on the research findings to contribute to the improvement of professional competence kindergarten teachers working in the field of cognitive processes, without which mathematical thinking could not be developed properly. The expected outcome of the thesis is the preparation of documents designated for kindergarten teachers, which would provide them with an instructive view of examined issue. The content of work is also notification of possible cause dissonance theory and resulting analyses and proposals of corrective measures that belong to kindergarten teacher competence.

Since the beginning of BBS (Bulletin Board System), around 1978, people connects to internet to communicate, talk about curiosities and fait divers, create, are listened and feel part of a community, in a democratic platform. This study aims at analyzing the communicational nature of Twitter, approaching the relationships that can be found in messages exchanges between its members. This study is organized in three parts. The first one beggins with the definition of microspace, recovering primitive ways of communication, limited by the environment, evoluting to the first mass communication invention, the telegraph. Then, this study introduces the definition of microspace related to cyberspace s concepts proposed by Lévy and approaches the individual interest on herding, as Maffesoli said. The second part is about the poetics of cyberspace, redeeming the definition of microspace, now in other media, such as the haikais (Campos). The study sails in the cyberspace, through media culture (Santaella), net s labyrinth (Leão), translations (Plaza) and it docks in social nets (Rheingold), focusing on Twitter. Throughout the collection of material, this study exposes the communication s nature and objective found in microspace. At last, the third part presents the characteristics of net communication (Flusser and Shannon), the process of knowledge and learning generated by this kind of communication (Piaget e Freire) and it proposes a discussion on broad and restrict knowledge (Morin). The conclusions of this study may contribute to the identification of the critical thought spread through the net, exposing how this thought sails in the cyberspace and is translated in new ideas and senses / O fenômeno das redes sociais não é algo novo.

Aesthetic Spaces in Malory¡¦s Le Morte Darthur

Kuo, Ju-ping 05 February 2010 (has links)
The immense scope of Sir Thomas Malory¡¦s Le Morte Darthur has long kept daunting his readers. In terms of space, Malory includes both historical locations and imaginary and unnamed natural locales in his work. These places have different functions and therefore transmit different dimensions of spatial imagination. This dissertation examines three kinds of space¡Xwater as space, urban space and mystical space, and the aesthetic relations to these spaces in Le Morte Darthur. These named spaces and the selected locations in each category will be analyzed in the framework of microspace and macrospace, a structure proposed by Dick Harrison in conceptualizing medieval spatial experiences. Chapter one explores water as space. Some geographical sites, such as harbors, lakes, wells and rivers, and an imaginary space of Lancelot¡¦s tears as a qualitative concept are discussed in relation to the aquatic regenerative power. Particular interests are in how Malory accentuates differences which water exhibits in these sites and how water functions as a link to the past and to the future via language and spatial verticality. The second chapter moves to urban space, localized in specific places. This chapter aims to explicate how some medieval cities in Le Morte Darthur are consecrated or deconsecrated as a result of the city¡¦s association with distinct social and moral/immoral activities. The final chapter discusses mystical space. The places of sojourn of the Grail knights during their quest are marked by spatial verticality and horizontality, in proportion to each knight¡¦s moral worthiness. These locales form a preparatory path towards the space where the Grail vision and a divine message are ultimately revealed. An analogy between the interior space of the Grail and the extracosmic void space is drawn in order to convey the essence of the Grail in spatial terms. The progression from chapter one to three reflects a tendency from the physical to the mystical world of the human existence imagined in Malory¡¦s work. Moral dimension plays an important role in that it enables the transformation from microspace to macrospace in some instances. The term ¡§aesthetic spaces¡¨ will include both microspace and macrospace, in which Malory employs real and imaginary sites to fulfill his aesthetic ideal. ¡§Aesthetic spaces,¡¨ when taken in a broader sense, will also apply to ¡§poetic space¡¨ when language results in the transference of space which characters experience. Three categories of texts will be employed in the discussion: literary, historical and theoretical texts. The first group includes Le Morte Darthur, some major medieval English romances and chronicles and the Old French prose Vulgate and Post-Vulgate Cycles; the second, fourteenth- and fifteenth-century philosophical, religious and historical documents; and the last, theories of medieval spatial thinking from Harrison and Mircea Eliade. Through comparisons of a number of passages in Le Morte Darthur and these two French versions, this writer attempts to show that Malory, as the first writer to incorporate the Grail narrative into Arthurian romance in England prior to the late fifteenth century, succeeds in presenting microspatial and macrospatial thinking in Le Morte Darthur.
