BEST LEADERSHIP PRACTICES OF MULTINATIONAL CORPORATIONS IN THE USE OF AUTOMATED MIGRATION TOOLS IN ADOPTION OF COMMERCIAL CLOUD COMPUTING PLATFORMS: A META-ANALYSIS

Ethan Michael Sneider (10197767) 01 September 2021 (has links)
<p>Transitioning to cloud computing is a complex and major effort for large multinational corporations (MNCs). Automated cloud migration tools (ACMTs) have been developed and are evolving to streamline this process. The potential benefits of their use are reported to be significant in terms of cost, time, and business innovation. Academic research on ACMTs and the best leadership practices for their use has been limited. </p><p> </p><p>The purpose of the research was to identify the best leadership practices of MNCs in the use of automated migration tools for the adoption of commercial cloud computing platforms. Adoption of cloud computing is a major technological shift occurring globally, and is still in early stages of growth. Major providers of commercial cloud computing platforms include technological giants such as Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, Google, Oracle and IBM.</p><p> </p><p>A meta-analysis designed research approach focusing on the triangulation of case studies, cloud computing industry data and trends from cloud service providers (CSP) revealed that best practices of leaders within MNCs fall under three main categories: awareness, impact and actions. Further, it was determined that the ACMTs with the most advanced capabilities do not necessarily equate to faster realization of cloud value for the MNC. </p><p> </p>With the continued development of ACMTs and their growing adoption, further study on the role of automation in cloud migration solution deployment will be critical, as ACMT capabilities will continue to mature. No longer the sole domain of becoming a market leader alone, organizations that utilize ACMTs are increasingly doing so just to maintain competitive parity, as the true differentiator in organizational excellence is now in cloud optimization and not simply just getting to the cloud.

CAE systém EPLAN Electric P8 - tvorba výkresové dokumentace pro dálkové ovládání motorgenerátoru / CAE system EPLAN Electric P8 and design documentation

Měřínský, Jiří January 2010 (has links)
This Graduation Theses dissertate about a creation of a drawing documentation at the professional CAE EPLAN Electric P8 system. One original solution of a remote control and of motor-generator monitoring with a mobile phone, short SMS-aided in this case, was used as an example of the drawing documentation. As has allready been noted in previous Bachelor Thesis, this application can be use not only for a remote control of a motor-generator, but this solution is suitable for other electric devices too, which are out of reach of an attendance for example. In our case a generator with 6kVA power is concerned with rated output voltage 230Vac and rated current 25A. The system of a remote control has the advantage that it is created from standard components (electric instruments, a PLC – programmable automat, a GSM modem, an operating panel and the respective program in the PLC).

Empowering young people through narrative

Steyn, Lynette 06 1900 (has links)
Dominant discourses on power, childhood and gender lead to power inequalities in social relationships in families and schools, allowing abuses of power (the subjugation and marginalisation of women and young people). These dominant structures of belief are often disrespectful of young people's experiences, stories and knowledges. This research attempted to respond to dilemmas in child relationships, to challenge belief structures that construct relationships between adults/young people, and to empower young people to stand up for their beliefs and make their voices heard. The research was guided by a post-modern, narrative pastoral approach. To deconstruct discourses that restrict young people within social institutions, social construction discourse, feminist post-structuralism, narrative theology and feminist theology were used. Narrative practices were used to look at depression, guilt, trouble and anger. Re-authoring conversations were used to construct preferred stories about young people's identities and to explore alternative stories and the not-yet-said on drugs. / This dissertation has as main objective to present the implementation of an ADSL software-modem totally written in Java, using the Ptolemy II framework, named Hermes (from \A Handy Experimental softwaRe ModEm System"). A software-modem is useful in cases where one needs to perform tests and simulations of communication systems with a large number of modems and when systems' parameters must be changed with high degree of freedom. Besides, a software-modem has features that make it easy to add, eliminate, validate and evaluate signal processing and telecommunications functions and algorithms. Tests and simulations were performed to evaluate the Hermes functionality, including the use of Tracespan, a non-intrusive analisys equipment for DSL networks. From obtained results together with Tracespan, it was possible to successfully validate the Hermes functions.

This dissertation presents contributions to some strategies of spectrum management which have received few attention in the literature: power minimization and noise margin maximization. Regarding power minimization, about 60% of the total power drained by the DSL transceivers are used in the transmission. The contribution of this dissertation with respect to this field was to prove mathematically that the algorithms of rate maximization can also be used to minimize power. This way, the development gap between these two modes of operation vanishes, turning them in the same level of development. The second contribution of this dissertation is about the noise margin maximization, in order to optimize the stability of DSL networks. In this direction, this dissertation presents a new algorithm of multiuser margin maximization, which shows superior performance when compared to a previous algorithm published in the specialized literature.

Otimização dos parâmetros de um sistema de comunicação acústica subaquática para minimizar o consumo energético / Parameters optimization of an underwater communication system for minimizing energy consumption

Souza, Fabio Alexandre de 09 December 2016 (has links)
In this Thesis, an energy consumption model for underwater acoustic networks is proposed. The model takes into account the specificities of the underwater environment, such as the use of acoustic waves for communication, dependence of the underwater acoustic channel bandwidth with the path loss, which varies with both the distance and frequency, and noise. The fading, usually modeled by Rayleigh and Rice distributions on terrestrial communications, in this work, is modeled by the K distribution, which best represents the severity of the underwater environment. The model considers a linear multi-hop underwater network and the possibility of retransmissions to calculate the total energy consumed for each bit of information successfully transmitted between the source and the destination. In order to obtain the minimum energy, the SNR and the operating frequency are also optimized. The use of convolutional codes is considered and the optimal code rate, which leads to the minimum energy consumption, is determined. A theoretical analysis was developed for two scenarios: delay constrained and delay unconstrained networks, indicating the optimal number of hops which minimizes energy consumption. Next, the impact of the number of transmission trials was considered. A numerical analysis was also performed for both the scenarios. The numerical results validate the theoretical analysis, showing that the multi-hop scheme is more efficient in terms of energy consumption when compared to direct transmission. Furthermore, the results show that a small number of transmission trials is sufficient to achieve a considerable reduction in energy consumption in multi-hop networks, limiting the average delay per packet transmitted, which is very interesting in real applications.
