Effect of Shading on Thin Film Modules

MISHRA, NISTHA January 2020 (has links)
The Photovoltaic (PV) systems and the semiconductor PV technologies are heavily impacted by shading conditions; total or partial. Nearby residential buildings, commercial buildings, objects, etc. are likely to cause shade on the PV installations.  This study focuses on the evaluation of the effect of shading on thin-film PV modules, which were analyzed under two categories: single thin-film module and a string of modules installed at the University of Gävle, Sweden. The measurement was made by using METREL MI 3109 Euro test instrument. The study intends to help researchers to analyze the variation in the output performance parameters and behavior considering different types of shading on the thin-film modules. Experiments have been performed by creating full and partial shading (uniform and nonuniform) by using plastic foil, opaque board, wooden pole, and tape to emulate different types of natural shading conditions.  The findings show a loss in power due to shading. In the single thin-film modules, which do not have any diode between the cells; reverse breakdown, power dissipation and generation of hot spots are caused by the cells which are partially shaded.  In the string of modules installed at the University of Gävle, Sweden; under partial shading conditions the diodes are activated below certain voltage when current is high, leading to current bypass and therefore prevents the module from the damage caused by high heat generation. Under the condition of extremely low shading by a wooden pole, the diodes were not activated; however reverse breakdown was observed similar to the case of partial shading in single thin-film modules.

Règles de fusion pour certains modules remarquables de l’algèbre quantique Uqsl2

Robitaille-Grou, Philippe 08 1900 (has links)
This thesis is devoted to the representation theory of the quantum algebra Uqsl2 for q a root of unity. More precisely it studies some modules of the algebra LUqsl2, the Lusztig extension of Uqsl2, when q² is a primitive p-root of unity for p an integer greater than or equal to 2. Four families of finite dimensional LUqsl2-modules, called remarkable modules, are identified: simple and projective modules as well as Weyl modules and comodules. The algebra Uqsl2 has a Hopf algebra structure; the latter can be extended to LUqsl2. The antipode of this structure is used to define a duality of LUqsl2-modules, from which the Weyl comodules are built, while the coproduct is used to define a tensor product of LUqsl2-modules, also called fusion of modules. This thesis determines the fusion rules of remarkable modules: the tensor product of any pair of remarkable modules is expressed as a direct sum of indecomposable modules. Although the fusion rules between simple and projective modules were obtained by Bushlanov, Feigin, Gainutdinov and Tipunin (cf. [7]), those involving at least one Weyl module or comodule are new.

Cycles proches, cycles évanescents et théorie de Hodge pour les morphismes sans pente / Nearby cycles, vanishing cycles and Hodge theory for morphisms without slope

Kochersperger, Matthieu 09 July 2018 (has links)
In this thesis we are interested in singularities of complex varieties defined as the zero locus of a morphism without slope. In a first time we study nearby cycles and vanishing cycles associated to such morphisms. In a second time we want to understand Hodge theory of morphisms without slope. The first part of this thesis is devoted to add some complements to the work of P. Maisonobe on morphisms without slope. We start with the construction of a comparison morphism between algebraic nearby cycles (for $mathscr{D}$-modules) and topological nearby cycles (for perverse sheaves). Then we show that this morphism is an isomorphism in the case of a morphism without slope. Finally we construct a topological vanishing cycles functor for a morphism without slope et we prove that this functor and the topological nearby cycles functor of P. Maisonobe fit into the expected diagram of exact triangles. In the second part of the thesis we study morphisms without slope for mixed Hodge modules. We first show the commutativity of iterated nearby cycles and vanishing cycles applied to a mixed Hodge module in the case of a morphism without slope. Second we define the notion "strictly without slope" for a mixed Hodge module and we show that it is preserved by proper direct image. As an application we prove the compatibility of the Hodge filtration and Kashiwara-Malgrange filtrations for some pure Hodge modules with support an hypersurface with quasi-ordinary singularities.

Generating Medical Logic Modules for Clinical Trial Eligibility

Parker, Craig G. 15 November 2005 (has links) (PDF)
Clinical trials are important to the advancement of medical science. They provide the experimental and statistical basis needed to determine the benefit of diagnostic and therapeutic agents and procedures. The more patients enrolled in a clinical trial, the more confidence we can have in the trial's results. However, current practices for identifying eligible patients can be expensive and time-consuming. To assist in making identification of eligible patients more cost effective, we have developed a system for translating the eligibility criteria for clinical trials to an executable form. This system takes as input the eligibility criteria for a trial formatted as first order predicates. We then map these criteria against concepts in a target database. The mapped criteria are output as an Arden Syntax medical logic module using virtual medical record queries in the curly braces. The system was able to successfully process 85 out of 100 trials attempted. From these 85 trials, the system idendified 1,545 eligibility criteria. From these criteria, we generate 520 virtual medical record queries, 253 of which were deemed useful in helping to determine eligibility.

Preparing Teachers To Partner With Families

Senne, Mary 01 January 2005 (has links)
Decades of research have demonstrated that family involvement significantly contributes to improved student outcomes relating to learning and overall school success. Teachers must be prepared to promote effective family involvement in the education of all children including those students with disabilities. Many factors can be attributed to successful outcomes for a student with a disability both in the school and the broader community. Families of children with disabilities can be one of these significant factors, yet teachers and those who prepare teachers are often ill prepared and lack essential skills and basic knowledge about the process of partnering with families of children with disabilities. The present study attempted to build on what we already know about family involvement and teacher preparation. The research was situated within an urban metropolitan university college of education. This study sought to determine the effectiveness of a content related module on the knowledge and disposition of pre-service teachers. The module contained content centered on the areas of family involvement, partnerships, and assumptions about families. The study included two dependant variables: level of knowledge and disposition. The independent variable was the experimental treatment, an online instructional module. The module was conceptualized as an instructional tool to expose participants, students preparing to be teachers, to the role attitudes and beliefs play in developing relationships with others; understanding family perspectives; and examining one's own attitudes and beliefs about families of children with disabilities. The control variables included age, gender and GPA. The research question was: does increasing knowledge regarding family involvement of children with disabilities have an impact on pre service teachers' disposition? The sample included 93 pre service general education students attending the same undergraduate college of education. Subjects were enrolled in an introductory special education course. Sample comprised of all females between the ages of 20 and 50. In order to test the outcome of the treatment intervention, the study utilized a quasi-experimental design with an experimental group and comparison group, and pretest and posttest means. Randomization of the experimental group and comparison group was not possible. It was hypothesized that, while controlling for age, gender and pretest scores, those students who participated in the group intervention by completing the instructional online module would have a change in disposition and increase in knowledge scores as compared to those in the comparison group. It was further hypothesized, while controlling for age, gender and pre test scores, student written responses to two questions based on a case study (scored using rubric) would correlate positively with their disposition and knowledge scores as measured by self report following completion of the intervention. Findings indicate that students' level of knowledge increased significantly over time. The measure of disposition did not change significantly over time

Equivalence Classes of Subquotients of Pseudodifferential Operator Modules on the Line

Larsen, Jeannette M. 08 1900 (has links)
Certain subquotients of Vec(R)-modules of pseudodifferential operators from one tensor density module to another are categorized, giving necessary and sufficient conditions under which two such subquotients are equivalent as Vec(R)-representations. These subquotients split under the projective subalgebra, a copy of ????2, when the members of their composition series have distinct Casimir eigenvalues. Results were obtained using the explicit description of the action of Vec(R) with respect to this splitting. In the length five case, the equivalence classes of the subquotients are determined by two invariants. In an appropriate coordinate system, the level curves of one of these invariants are a pencil of conics, and those of the other are a pencil of cubics.
