Neuropsychologic correlates of a normal EEG variant: The mu rhythm.

Simms, Lori A. 08 1900 (has links)
Although the mu rhythm is traditionally defined as a normal EEG variant, recent evidence suggests that mu may have functional significance in a variety of disorders such as autism, Parkinson's disease, and multiple sclerosis. While an increasing number of articles have focused on the blocking mechanism of mu in relation to various cognitive processes and disorders, few have examined the significance of a prominent mu rhythm in the background EEG. A few studies have examined the relationship between the mu rhythm and psychological disturbance, such as attentional and affective disorders. Increasing evidence suggests that EEG and qEEG variables may be useful in classifying psychiatric disorders, presenting a neurophysiological alternative to traditional symptom-based diagnosis and classification. Thus, the intention of the present study was to examine the relationship between neuropsychological variables, gathered from multiple assessment sources, and the presence of a prominent mu rhythm in the EEG. Results did not show a statistically significant difference between individuals with and without a prominent mu rhythm on the Test of Variables of Attention (TOVA); although individuals in the mu group showed a pattern of increased impulsivity and performance decrement over time. For adults, no significant differences were observed between groups on psychological variables measured by the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2). However, for children, the mu and control groups differed on several behavioral and emotional variables on the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL). Results are examined in the context of other research and clinical implications are discussed.

QEEG and LORETA findings in children with histories of relational trauma.

Bigby, Janice A. 05 1900 (has links)
Abuse and neglect occurring in childhood have been associated with a number of functional and physiological effects on the brain. This study extends previous research that investigated the quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG) patterns in children with histories of relational trauma through the inclusion of additional participants and measures. As in previous studies, the relative power, absolute power, and coherence values in children with histories of abuse were compared to the Neuroguide database. Results did not show any significant differences in relative or absolute power in the theta range. Similarly, there were no significant coherence differences. Database comparisons were also made using low resolution electromagnetic tomography (LORETA) in order to determine which sub-cortical brain structures may be affected by abuse or trauma, though there were no significant differences in any frequency (0-30Hz). A review of the literature suggests that the prevalence of mu in normal adults and children ranges from 0 to 19%. The present study found a mu prevalence rate of 60.6% in the children who experienced abuse or neglect. Finally, comparisons were made between participants who demonstrate a mu pattern and those who do not to determine if this pattern is associated with certain behavioral and/or attention problems as assessed by the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) and the Tests of Variables of Attention (TOVA), respectively. There were no significant differences between children with a mu pattern versus children who did not exhibit a mu pattern on the Social Problems, Thought Problems, or Attention subscale scores on the CBCL or on the Commission subscale score on the TOVA.

”K[vinn]or bygger inte kojor” : En bildretorisk studie av barnboksfigurerna Mamma Mu och Kråkan ur ett kritiskt genusperspektiv

Ivarsson, Julia January 2020 (has links)
This essay examines how the picture book characters Mamma Mu and Kråkan are presented in text and illustrations. The purpose is to analyze how the interaction between the characters play out and how it can be interpreted from a critical gender perspective, and how picture books can set a scenery on how children perceive the world. The analysis is based on three entries from the book Mamma Mu bygger koja. Through a social semiotic theory approach and a multimodal method, the essay examines how the book’s various semiotic resources may reproduce gender norms. The essay discusses the differences and similarities in how Mamma Mu and Kråkan are presented. The analysis shows several differences, partly in how their facial expressions and mood are expressed, how detailed their actions are visualized, and in attitudes towards each other. The conclusion is that Mamma Mu has a calm and friendly demeanor and approach towards Kråkan. Kråkan, on the other hand, has a harsh, heated and diminishing demeanor and actions towards Mamma Mu. The author states that the way the female and male characters are portrayed in this picture book could replicate outdated and problematic gender norms and therefore should be problematized and questioned.

Intern företagsapplikation : För en effektiv informationshantering

Svensson, Malin January 2021 (has links)
The report presents information about the development of an intern logbook made for the company Ångtvättbilen Västernorrland. The application is created with the goal and purpose to make the daily data management more effective and to gather all the coworkers information in one tool. The application is build up with the help of WordPress where the developer creates an own theme together with new post types, plugins and CRUD-functionalities. The project results in an working, responsive, progressive web application where the members can log in to their own personal account. In the app, the coworkers can save data from the work that they are doing or have done. When a member enters information about a work and saves it, the data gets available for all the coworkers to see in an table. The information is from there possible to both edit and delete. The webbapplication also includes a page for image upload where the members can submit images together with an text to the social media manager. The images is delivered by an automatic email. On the webpage there is also a page for a shoppinglist where all the members can add articles that need to be bought. The shoppinglist has all the CRUD-functionalities too. At last every coworker has their own member-profile where they can manage their own information and where they can upload an image of themself. All the personal-information is also visible to the other members on the site. The tools in the application is available from front-end and the coworkers does not have access to the WordPress administration. The goal and purpose of the project is achieved.

Release of Endomorphin-2 Like Substances From the Rat Spinal Cord

Williams, C. A., Wu, S. Y., Dun, S. L., Kwok, E. H., Dun, N. J. 24 September 1999 (has links)
Release of endomorphin (ENDO)-2 like substances from the dorsal horn of the isolated rat spinal cord was measured by the immobilized-antibody microprobe technique. Spinal cords were removed from anesthetized 4-6 week old rats and superfused with oxygenated Krebs solution at room temperature. Glass microprobes coated with ENDO-2 antibodies were inserted into the dorsal horn of the lumbar spinal cord 1.5 mm lateral to the midline to a depth 2.5 mm below the dorsal surface of the cord. Each probe remained in situ for 10 min periods before, during and after electrical stimulation applied to the dorsal root entry zone of the same spinal segment. There was no detectable basal release of immunoreactive endomorphin-2 like substance (irENDO) from the dorsal horns during the pre-stimulation, nor following the stimulation period. A significant release of irENDO was measured during the electrical stimulation. These results provide the first evidence of a irEndo release that is correlated spatially with the dorsal horn laminae I and II where ENDO-2-immunoreactive fibers are concentrated in the dorsal horn in response to electrical activation of primary afferent fibers.

Flic(kor) som skevar : En genusvetenskaplig studie om bilderbokskaraktären Mamma Mu och hennes rörelse mellan förväntad och skev femininitet

Ivarsson, Julia January 2023 (has links)
Analyzing character portrayals in picture books is a well-researched area in the humanities, not least in literature and gender studies. It fulfills an important function as these depictions can be seen as confirming or challenging hegemonic notions of gender and age. Specifically, this study concerns the picture book character Mamma Mu. She has been a subject of interest for academic studies before this one. However, there are no studies centered around her age and how this affects whether her actions can be considered intelligible or not. Placed in the intersection of gender, literature and girlhood studies, and from a skew theory perspective as presented mainly by Maria Margareta Österholm (2012), the aim of this thesis is to study how Mamma Mu as an adult feminine subject exhibits different age-related expressions of femininity, and how she relates to notions of accepted behavior in relation to adulthood. Based on the extremes of expected as well as adult and skewed as well as childish femininity, this thesis thus argues that Mamma Mu exhibits an oscillating movement between these extremes.
