Var finns musiken? : Musiklärarstudenter söker information i form av musikalier. / Where is the music? : Music teacher students seek information in the form of music.

Jansson, Mas Karin January 2015 (has links)
There have been many studies made regarding students and information seeking, however few studies have been done about music teacher students. Music is a unique area of information seeking because it does not only entail seeking printed publications but also audio- and visual recordings. How do music teacher students experience information seeking in their own field of music? What methods do they use to seek information in the form of music? Does the music library on site play a role in their information seeking? A qualitative study has been made researching how music teacher students at Ingesund College of Music regard their own information seeking abilities, and how they feel about the education received in the field of information seeking.Five interviews were conducted with music teacher students, ranging from year 2 to year 5. Leckie, Pettigrew and Sylvain’s model, derived from role theory, from 1996 is applied to the music teacher students’ information seeking process. Other studies results, with some emphasis on the arts, in the field of information seeking and information science and students in the academic field have been used. The results in this thesis indicate that music teacher students experience information seeking in different ways depending on their major field of study. They also regard the information seeking course as more of a review, rather than part of their education.

Musikalier på bibliotek : en outnyttjad resurs? En fallstudie / Sheet Music held by libraries : an underutilised resource.

Ährlund, Anna January 2007 (has links)
The object of this master thesis is to question why the sheet music heldby libraries is not used more than it is. I have mainly studied the inc idenceof any cooperation between the music schools and libraries, whether there has been consultation on the purchase of sheet musicand whether the music schools borrowed sheet music from the libraries. For the thesis qualitative methods were used in the form of interviewswith ten leaders in music or cultural schools in Sweden. The mainstudy has been focused on the library and music school in Vänersborg. To compare my results and draw conclusions I have used the work ofSanna Taljas: Music, Culture and the Library: an analysis of Discourses. The result of the study showed that there is very little cooperation betweenthe library section for music and the music school. The greatestinterest for cooperation appears to come from the library personnel. Both the library and the music school personnel claim insufficient timeand money for their lack of cooperation. / Uppsatsnivå: D

Verkbegreppet och bibliografiska relationer. En studie av gränsdragningen mellan olika verk med exempel från Dübensamlingen i Uppsala / The concept of a work and bibliographic relationships. A study of the boundaries of a work with examples from the Düben Collection in Uppsala

Wihlstrand, Agneta January 2007 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the concept of a work and the problems with its definition and will also examine bibliographic relationships. The main question is what are the boundaries of a work and at what point a work becomes another. What is the meaning of the concept of a work within the context of the library? What are the solutions of bibliographic relationships and the concept of a work in KRS and FRBR? The thesis is based on a literature review. In the literature I have examined the discussions of the work and bibliographic relationships. I made a comparison between the Swedish cataloguing standard of today, KRS, the suggestion of future cataloguing, FRBR and the catalogue of the Düben Collection. The empirical examples were taken from the Düben Collection, which contains musical works of the Swedish Royal Court from the 17th and early 18th century. The collection has been available since 2006 in a database catalogue on the Internet. I have examined works of six composers, which exist in the catalogue in at least two manifestations. The result of this study shows that the problem with the boundaries of a work is not solved and this is a subjective problem. Cataloguing performed according to the KRS, collocate different versions of a work and its related works, using uniform titles and bibliographic relationships. FRBR offers great opportunities to collocate the different versions of a work, but it is still a suggestion, implemented in just a few web-based resources. / Uppsatsnivå: D

"Din sökning gav tyvärr inga träffar" : en kvalitativ enkätstudie om användares svårigheter med att söka noter i Statens musikbiblioteks onlinekatalog / <em>”Your search did not return any hits"</em> : a Questionnaire Study about Users’ Difficulties when Searching for Sheet Music in the Online Catalogue of The Music Library of Sweden

Grut, Johanna January 2009 (has links)
<p>The purpose of this Master’s thesis is to study how well the online catalogue of The Music Library of Sweden works when ordinary users are searching for sheet music. The issues studied are: Why do the users fail to find the sheet music they are looking for? Do the users take advantage of the possibilities that the classification codes of the SAB system offer? If not, why?</p><p>The source material of the study is 144 comments from a user questionnaire about the online catalogue and, in addition, the search log for one day (513 queries). The comments were sorted into seven groups depending on the type of information need, for example searches for certain instrumentation or genres and problems with spelling. Each analysis ends with suggestions for improvements of the catalogue and its instructions.</p><p>The thesis show, according to the Zipf’s principle of least effort, that sheet music searching in the online catalogue is demanding too much effort and knowledge of the users. Searching with SAB classification codes is too complicated which may be the explanation why only 2 percent of the queries in the log are code searches. In 51 of the 76 cases where users failed to find sheet music the queries would have succeeded if the patrons had used classification codes. The SAB system is thus not used as often as it deserves.</p><p>The variety and amount of failed queries in the material show that sheet music is difficult to search, for several reasons, for example the complex construction of uniform titles of musical works and that the searchable vocabulary of the online catalogue often differ from the users’ own.</p>
