Koncept národního verše v české a zahraniční versologii 19. a 20. století - otázky, problémy, polemiky / The Concept of the National Verse in Czech and International Theory of Verse 19th and 20th Century - Questions, Problems, Polemics

Čermochová, Klára January 2019 (has links)
The chief subject of this dissertation is a description of the reflections on the poetry of 19th and 20th century, in connection with questions of national identity, national self-confidence, tradition and openness to European space. I deal with the question, how these topics are (often unconsciously) reflected in the prosodic debates of certain periods (especially during the Czech National Revival or at the time of the formation of independent Czechoslovakia) and how influence the views on how the Czech verse looks or should look, for what purposes poetry is to serve or what threatens the national literature and language. I also follow the changes in the relation of the theory of verse to the poetry itself and compare the concept of the verse and its basic categories in Czech and international theory. This work is composed of four isolated parts, relatively independent of each other. These are partial probes on selected topics from the history of Czech and foreign literature and its reflection. The first chapter focuses on the syllabotonic reform of the Czech verse and on the motivation, which led to its acceptance or rejection. I investigated the reasons, which led some authors to the partial violation of rules and some authors to attempts to establish quantitative verse. The topic of Czech iamb...

Národní bezpečnostní strategie Spojených států amerických 2002: Imperiální Grand Strategy? / National Security Strategy of the United States of America 2002: Imperial Grand Strategy?

Ludvík, Jan January 2009 (has links)
This paper offers a thorough examination of the United States 2002 National Security Strategy. The document is explored in its broader context, which allows us to understand it in its uniqueness and therefore offer sufficient interpretation. Special attention is devoted to the decision making process of the U.S. National Security Council due to primary responsibility of NSC for coordination of American security policy. Further attention is paid to three particular problem- related parts that are often considered to be the most revolutionary issues of this document. Preemption, unilateralism and U.S. support for the spread of democracy are examined in the broader context of the U.S. foreign policy tradition, American identity and historical development. On the basis of thorough research, the paper supposes that all major parts of this particular document are rather compatible with the development of U.S. security policy and they represent rather the outcome of developments than a fundamental change or reformulation of the strategy. The role of strategic documents is implicitly examined as well, while the study suggests that it should be perceived as a product of bureaucratic politics as summarized in a model by Graham Allison.

Co znamená být Američanem?: Zrod americké národní identity / What It Means to Be American?: Creating American National Identity

Zeimannová, Adéla January 2021 (has links)
National identity is a complex notion of being and belonging. The multiple selves, out of which the identity is composed of such as gender, class, race, and ethnicity etc. pose a challenge in creating any sort of unified collective national identity that would encompass each individual's unique set of these multiple selves and roles. This complexity is even more pronounced when a national identity of such nations as the U.S. is examined. Due to its multicultural and multiethnic nature, identifying a collective American identity becomes a challenge. This thesis examines the birth of national identity in the U.S. during the Revolutionary era through the time of the Early republic and the period of 1800-1850 in an effort to discover the unifying features of such complex identity and to uncover its origins. The text consults theoretical framework on nation, nationalism and national identity to establish a working definition of a nation and to explain the complexity of the concept which is then further examined in the context of the U.S. In combination with a historical overview of the period 1770-1850, the thesis addresses nationalist feelings and thoughts that permeated the country at the time, examining the first emergence of calls for unified American national identity and the subsequent...
