How are the strategies teachers use to facilitate participation of children in need of special supports in three ‘inclusive schools’ in Finland : From teachers’ perspective

Inclusion enable children with special needs pursue their education or activities with their peers who are not disabled. Participation of children can be promoted by inclusion. Teachers are key for developing inclusive schools and improve the participation of children with special needs. The aim of this study is to describe strategies teachers use to facilitate participation of children in need of special supports in three ‘inclusive schools’ in Finland. To study this issue, interviews were conducted with eight participants from these three schools. The ICF-CY model was used to analyze the interview data. Results show that teachers’ strategies of promoting children’s participation in these Finnish ‘inclusive’ schools are diverse, teachers use strategies that focus on children’s environmental factors as well as factors that relate to children themselves. Most of teachers believe strategies that make changes on children environmental factors can help children participate in classroom tasks and activities. Some factors to influence difference of the strategies in different schools were found, different school situations and seems to be a decisive role on teachers’ strategies of improving the participation of the children. This study gives a promising view of the actions that teachers take to promote participation of children in need of special support.

Taking a Knowledge Perspective on Needs: Presenting Two Case Studies within an Educational Environment in Austria

Needs that are shared by members of an organization can trigger an organizational learning process. To a large extent, needs are implicitly anchored in organizations and people can hardly articulate them. In this article, we present Bewextra, a method that allows for identifying hidden needs in organizations. Thereby, we trigger a knowledge conversion process, which is similar to Nonaka's SECI-spiral. In two case studies, we present how our Bewextra-process is applied to projects in educational contexts in Austria. In a first case study, we show that a combination of learning from past and future experiences extend the scope of the overall outcome. Since learning from future experiences requires a distinct environment (enabling spaces), we present a second case study. Here, we conducted a Bewextra-process with a large number of participants (n > 170), focusing on learning from future experiences.

The diploma thesis is focused on the motivation of students to study at the Hussite theological faculty of Charles University. The diploma thesis is divided into two main parts. The aim of the theoretical part of the thesis is to provide summary information on the given topic. The aim of the practical part is to find out and analyze the motivation of the students of social and charity work. Part of the practical part is a questionnaire, finding the motives of students to study this field and their needs to continue studying and learning. The questionnaire survey showed that students are most often attracted by the inadequacy of the admission procedure together with the personal interest in studying this faculty. For the field itself, they decided in the first place mainly because of the desire to help people and to be beneficial. Since graduating from the field, they have been promising to increase their professional qualifications, a better chance of good job and getting a degree. Students at the Hussite Theological Faculty appreciate mainly the ambience of a smaller faculty with family atmosphere, tolerance and openness prevail.

Stimulační mechanismy v systému pomoci v hmotné nouzi / Stimulation Mechanisms in the System of Assistance in Material Deprivation

The system of assistance in material deprivation regulates aid to people in need, i.e., persons who finds themselves in a situation where they are unable to provide for themselves. At present, greater emphasis is being out on each citizen?s responsibility for themselves and their families, as well as their active role in the finding of solutions for social events that impact on them. The point to try to motivate people in need to improve personally and actively their income. The aim of the Diploma Thesis is to map the findings gathered in the process of applying selected mechanisms in the system of assistance to persons in need. Five basic questions have been formulated for our research: 1. How do the clients see the idea of selling property or other uses of property? 2. How can we prove a client?s endeavor to improve his income by working? 3. What requirements and demands do recipients of welfare benefits have when they improve their income by working? 4. Is the concept of positive effect of higher income earned by own work apparent more on the part of social workers than clients? 5. What options of controlling do the recipients of welfare benefits have when trying to prove their effort to improve their income by own work? The qualitative survey was conducted by questioning, using the technique of semi-structured interview. Data collection was done from July to October 2011 ad in March 2012. The survey sample consisted of 12 recipients of welfare benefits selected by random, 12 social workers from municipal offices, and 5 social workers from regional branches of the Labor Office. The collected data were processed by casuistry specialists. Other data were sorted by theme, mutually compared, and summarized in the form of tables. The research survey revealed that most of the questioned social workers do not consider the system of material assistance stimulating. They believe that the system forces clients to rely on the system, rather than seek employment actively.

Úloha sestry v zajišťování potřeby spánku u hospitalizovaných dětí / The nurses role in ensuring the need of sleep in hospitalized children

Abstract Sleep disorders occur frequently during child development. Cause of these disorders are physical but more frequently psychogenic. In diploma work we addressed the nurse role dealing with sleep necessity for child in-patients.. In the theoretical part we dealt with sleep characteristic,sleep disorders and child needs which can be detected not only with child in-patients in hospital ward. Furthermore we engaged in sleep fysiology and other factors which can influence the sleep quality. In the quest for that I did use the semi-structured conversation conducted in hospital child ward in Tábor hospital a.s .and České Budějovice hospital a.s. The conversation contained 15 questions which were answered individually by nurses. Data collection took place in April, 2012. The total number of questioned nurses was 16. In the connection with the theme 2/two objectives and 2 research questions were set. To achieve the objective it was necessary to find what is important to secure child in-patient sleep and find if nurses provide conditions for child in-patient quality sleep. The research questions were raised: ? What principles are considered by nurses to be important to secure the child in-patient sleep mode? ? and secondly ? How the nurses secure the conditions for quality sleep of the child in-patient? ?. As for the theoretical field concerns the nurses do not have the basic knowledge of the sleep fysiology (REM, non REM). As it comes out from response of the nurses, each nurse has an individual opinion of the factors which ensure the child in-patient quality sleep. The conditions for quality sleep are secured by nurses in creating quiet environment, cool room and where necessary also their presence with falling asleep children. The diploma work results are individual On the basis of these findigs, I consider to be necessary, the educative material to be worked out and acquaint the child nurses with its content.

The feed is evaluated on the selected farm on the basis of nutrient needs with respect to the recommended values - standards. Above the award, the feed for the heifers is evaluated. In the case of heifers, the feed dose, which is presented during the rearing of heifers, is compared with the average daily increments of one year (2017).

Sociocultural Facets of Asian International Students’ Drinking Motives in the College Context: Examining Social Norm Perception, Language Discrimination, and Need to Belong

abstract: Increasing numbers of Asian international students enter the U.S. each year; however, this group remains highly understudied. This is particularly true in regard to alcohol use and behavior. The purpose of the current study was to investigate if and how the sociocultural factors of social norm perception, perceived language discrimination, and need to belong relate to drinking motivation among Asian international students. Hierarchical regression was used with 194 self-identified Asian international student participants to analyze two separate three-way interactions. It was hypothesized that high social norm perceptions, greater perceived language discrimination, and high need to belong would interact to predict greater 1) drinking to cope, and 2) drinking to conform. Results did not support either hypothesis; however, main effects indicated that perceived language discrimination was related to drinking to cope and drinking to conform. In addition, need to belong and social norm perception interacted to predict drinking to conform. Testeffekten och dess relation till arbetsminne, ‘need for cognition’ och grit

Forskning i kognitiv psykologi har påvisat att testbaserad inlärning genererar bättre hågkomst jämfört med att läsa om ett inlärningsmaterial. Detta fenomen kallas för testeffekten. Denna studie undersökte skillnader i hågkomst mellan testbaserad inlärning och repeterad läsning för olika tidsintervall, samt huruvida individuella variationer avseende arbetsminneskapacitet och personlighetsdragen ‘need for cognition’ och grit relaterar till testeffekten. 182 svenska gymnasieelever deltog i studien. Materialet som användes för att mäta testeffekten var 60 swahili-svenska ordpar. Varje deltagare exponerades för hälften av ordparen genom testbaserad inlärning, och den andra hälften genom repeterad läsning. Tre hågkomsttest utfördes (direkt efter inlärning, en vecka efter och fyra veckor efter) med både ordpar som inte hade testats tidigare (unika ordpar) och ordpar som var med i föregående hågkomsttest (som tillsammans med de unika ordparen utgör ackumulerade ordpar). Resultaten uppvisade en signifikant testeffekt vid samtliga hågkomsttest för både unika och ackumulerade ordpar. En regressionsanalys visade att arbetsminneskapacitet, ‘need for cognition’ och grit, varken var för sig eller tillsammans, hade någon signifikant inverkan på testeffektens magnitud. Resultaten indikerar att testeffekten är robust för olika tidsintervall, samt att den är likvärdigt fördelaktig för personer som skiljer sig åt avseende arbetsminneskapacitet, ‘need for cognition’ och grit, som har visats påverka inlärning i flera andra sammanhang. Dessa resultat adderar till den växande mängd vetenskapliga belägg som talar för testeffektens effektivitet och lämplighet som inlärningsmetod. / Research in cognitive psychology has provided evidence for retrieval practice as superior for retention compared to reading a to-be-learned material. This phenomenon is called the testing effect. The current study investigated differences in retrieval achieved by retrieval practice and by reading at different time intervals, and whether individual differences in working memory capacity and the personality characteristics ‘need for cognition’ and grit is related to the testing effect. The sample consisted of 182 Swedish students in upper-secondary school. The to-be-learned material was 60 Swahili-Swedish word-pairs. Each participant was exposed to half of the word-pairs by testing, and the other half by reading. Three retention tests followed (directly after learning, one week later and four weeks later) consisting of word-pairs not previously tested (unique word-pairs) as well as word-pairs from previous retention tests (which together with the unique word-pairs constitutes the accumulated word-pairs). Significant testing effects were found at each retention test for both unique and accumulated word-pairs. A regression analysis showed that working memory capacity, need for cognition and grit, neither separately nor combined, had a significant impact on the magnitude of the testing effect. The results indicate that the testing effect is robust for different time intervals, and that it is equally beneficial across individual differences in working memory capacity, need for cognition and grit, each of which has been shown to affect learning in other contexts. These results add to the growing amount of scientific support for the effectiveness and appropriateness of the testing effect as a learning method.
