De São Bernardo a Casa na Duna: caminhos do (neo)realismo no macrossistema literário de língua portuguesa / From São Bernardo to Casa na Duna: paths of (neo)realism in portuguese literary macrossystemYoshida, Miguel Makoto Cavalcanti 30 October 2013 (has links)
This paper aims to show the paths of literary flows established within the Portuguese literary macrossystem in the novels São Bernardo, by Graciliano Ramos and Casa na Duna, by Carlos de Oliveira. The analysis of both novels aims to highlight the artistic codification as a result of a close estilistic labor in relation to their social environment, emphasizing the (neo)realistic notion of the work of art as a sensitive unity of form and content which provides (self)consciousness of mens world in capitalism through Paulo Honório and Mariano Paulos destinies. We also try to highlight the aspects that show both writers appropriation of this macrossystem literary tradition, being an update of realism as a way of literary compostion.

Neo-Ortodoxia: Rabino Schimshon Raphael Hirsch e o modelo \'Torá Im Derech Eretz\' / Neo-Orthodoxy: Rabbi Samason Raphael Hirsch and `Torah Im Derech Eretz`modelPaves, Saul 04 May 2016 (has links)
This dissertation aims mainly at studying the persona Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch (1808-1888), of Frankfurt, a great scholar and leader for different strata of Jewish society, the historical context he lived in, and analyzing his impact and legacy for generations to come, particularly regarding Jewish Orthodoxy. This was a time when Haskalah promoted profound changes in Jewish society, taking the first steps for the creation of the Reform movement. Therefore, this study also aims at understanding what the innovations introduced by Rabbi Hirsch within Orthodoxy were. What aspects differentiated between him and traditional Orthodoxy, turning him into one of the protagonists in Neo-Orthodoxy? What were the impacts and changes that his model impressed onto the German Jewish educational system and in European Jewish community? What are the differences between the model of Frankfurt and the model of Berlin, the latter headed by Rabbi Azriel Hildesheimer? Other questions raised concern the Torah Im Derech Eretz model, that intended to form an educational system covering traditional Jewish studies and secular training, enabling its followers full integration in modern society, while remaining faithful to the laws and traditional religious norms of Judaism. And, who are the ideological heirs of this movement? What is the historical legacy and relevance of this model for the modern Jewish society?

北宋理學的觀物工夫. / Bei Song li xue de guan wu gong fu.January 2014 (has links)
The Chinese character Gun (Cantonese) or Guan (Mandarin) entails not only our physical sensibility, the visual activity itself also unfolds a rich exercising of the mind, revealing a dimension lying in the depth of objects. Before Northern Song, the concept of Guan Wu (Deep Viewing of Things) has been latent in the Confucius linguistic context. It has not been a significant concept until highlighted by Master Shao Yong, who argued that this is an activity of articulating and embodying the truth. Other four contemporaries of Master Shao Yong, namely Zhou Dunyi, Zhang Zai, Cheng Hao and Cheng Yi, were acclaimed for the engagements in the deep viewing of different entities: the deep viewing of the grass before window, the deep viewing of a donkey braying, the deep viewing of the chicks and the deep viewing of the swimming fish. Guan Wu is not only a pastime to the Neo-Confucianists, it is also closely related to their own self-cultivation with a hint of manifesting Dao aplomb. In view of this, this thesis aims to, firstly, examine to what understanding is Guan Wu (Deep Viewing of Things) a way of self-cultivation in Northern Song Neo-Confucianism. Secondly, it shall argue that understanding the five masters of Northern Song through the self-cultivation of Guan Wu can provide a new perspective in examining the development of Neo-Confucianism. / Detailed summary in vernacular field only. / 鄧康宏. / Thesis (M.Phil.) Black Public Creative Figures in the Neo-Racial Moment: An Analysis of Tyra Banks, Tyler Perry and Shonda Rhimes, 2005-2010Williams, Danielle E. 07 December 2012 (has links)
ABSTRACT
This dissertation examines how Tyra Banks, Shonda Rhimes, and Tyler Perry negotiate blackness in terms of racial representation both in their interactions with the press and public as well as in their final product. Banks, Rhimes, and Perry are among the few prominent African American executive producers working in an industry of inequality. Each is the creative figure behind a prominent prime-time television show. This project contributes to the discussion of race and representation in the field of television studies.
I argue there is a connection between how Banks, Rhimes, and Perry publicly discuss race and how these perspectives are encoded in America’s Next Top Model (Banks), Grey’s Anatomy (Rhimes), and House of Payne (Perry) from 2005-2010. These three are vital case studies because their shows offer a range of African American representations and extra-textual discourses about representations.
Chapter Two historically contextualizes the industrial shifts in mainstream broadcast networks and basic cable channels as it relates to blackness onscreen and diversity behind the scenes. ABC, The CW, and TBS are the focus of this chapter because they are the outlets for Banks, Rhimes, and Perry’s shows. I also position ABC, The CW, and TBS in relation to the rest of the industry as it has moved from the multi-channel transition to the post- network era. Chapter Three examines how Banks, Perry and Rhimes promote and publicize themselves as the key creative figure of their shows. This analysis places each individual in different sites of the burden of representation, which each handles differently. Chapter Four explores the connection between the role blackness plays in their image as public creative figure and how it is represented in their texts through a representational analysis of America’s Next Top Model, Grey’s Anatomy and House of Payne.
This dissertation advocates a neo-racial framework to examine blackness on television and behind the scenes. A neo-racial framework acknowledges that racial inequities continue to exist and the context surrounding these inequities needs to be examined. I conclude that the Banks, Rhimes, and Perry cases show that we are not in a post-racial society or in the post-network era.

The relationship between team-level aggression and basketball performanceWright, Mary Ann 12 November 2009 (has links)
Previous research has indicated that aggression is generally detrimental to performance in the occupational domain (Campbell, 1990; James et al., 2005; Sackett, 2002; Viswesvaran et al., 1999). In certain athletic contexts, however, aggression may serve to enhance performance at the team level. For this analysis, team-level aggression is hypothesized to be positively related to team performance in basketball. Aggression in this context is defined as "the desire to inflict harm on another individual, group, or entity" (James, 2005, p.71). Both implicit (CRT-A) and explicit (NEO-PI-R) aggression were measured, and team performance was represented primarily by team scores. The data demonstrate that team-level implicit aggression is significantly and positively related to team performance, however team-level explicit aggression does not have a significant relationship with team performance.

Unemployment and "the gift" in the South African context / M. Rathbone.Rathbone, Mark January 2013 (has links)
Unemployment is a major problem in South Africa that has the potential to erode the democratic future of this country. In general, the main economic approaches that deal with unemployment are informed by neo-liberal and neo-Marxist perspectives. The problem is that these perspectives are in a dialectical tension with each other and can increase conflict and unemployment. This dialectical tension is reflected in language that can be informed by the reductionist aspects of the ontologies perspectives. The purpose of this study is to inquire whether the deconstruction of Jacques Derrida can provide an alternative perspective for the dialectical tension present between neo-liberal and neo-Marxist approaches that are being used to address the problem of unemployment in the South African context. In this regard, the critique of the language of reductionist ontologies by deconstruction provides a means to move beyond the tension between neo-liberalism and neo-Marxism, because deconstruction uncovers the ambivalence of the language of both perspectives, but without constructing a new synthesis that may result in new reductions of reality. This reduction of reality is evident in the use of “growth momentum”, referred to by Rodrik (2008:3), as a suggestion of a neo-liberal solution to the problem of unemployment. Growth is a reference to natural processes that can become a means to hide the mechanical structure of the economic cycle, which again has the potential to restrict growth through extreme forms of inequality and greed. Neo-Marxist perspectives utilise references to “equality” and “government intervention” to deal with injustice. This can result in extreme forms of control that diminish human dignity.
The role of deconstruction for the language of economic theory is illustrated by Jacques Derrida’s use of the word “Gift”. A gift is ambivalent because it contains a tension between self-interest and justice, which Jacques Derrida refers to as “hospitable narcissism”. It will be argued that this ambivalence is present in the language of the economic theory of John Maynard Keynes, which may provide important sustainable economic perspectives for dealing with unemployment in South Africa, thus providing a practical application of hospitable narcissism. In this regard, deconstruction is helpful to develop sensitivity to the language used and the ontologies that inform the language when addressing unemployment. The gift advances human dignity through responsible governance that is critical of 5 uncontrolled self-interest, greed and corruption. This happens through engagement with unemployed people – an act of accountability.
In this regard, the study aims at researching the following goals: Firstly, it aims to argue that unemployment in general is perpetuated by the dialectical tension between neo-liberalism and neo-Marxism; secondly, the deconstruction of language provides a critical perspective on reality that opens new perspectives for discussing the possibility of sustainable economic language, with reference to the word “gift”; thirdly, an aspect of “the gift” is present in the economic theory of Keynes that may provide sustainable perspectives for unemployment in the South African context.
In order to reach these goals, a praxis methodology is followed in which the practical reality of unemployment and the dialectical tension between neo-liberalism and neo-Marxism in South Africa are the points of departure. The implication is that the economic reality of unemployment and the political tension between neo-liberalism and neo-Marxism form the basis for further philosophical reflection. To do this, a deconstructive approach is followed as a means to explore the ontology of neo-liberalism and neo-Marxism. This is followed by a deconstructive reading of the economic theory that John Maynard Keynes follows in order to provide alternative perspectives for the problem of unemployment in South Africa.
The following resources were consulted in the research: Library catalogue of the North-West University, research articles through the database of Ebsco-host, statistics of unemployment from Statistics South Africa, and newspaper articles.
This mini-dissertation is presented in the form of an article, in accordance with rule A.7.2.5 of the “General Academic Rules” of the North-West University. The article will be presented for publication in the journal Acta Academica, at a later stage. In this regard, the guidelines for publication of this journal are included in the appendix. The article contains the following subdivisions:
