The process drawing is defined as a constant meandering between the consciousness or hunch towards an object and the concept of understanding or rationalizing that object. This falls back to a search for form submitting to critical reflection including both intuition and analysis. With Process Drawing, this reflection initially comes from an ideal conception as opposed to a pragmatic idea. In such a way that during the design discourse a functional brief is replaced by a series of self-inflicted design instructions moving the mind further and further away from 'the familiar'. For a brief moment, the ideal exists only in the drawing, the model, or any other artefact produced, free from concept, free from pragmatic application yet aiming towards the discovery of a new program or new application.

Pulsmätning som ett sätt att studera pacing under cykelmomentet i Ironman triathlonWahlstrand, Martin January 2018 (has links)
Bakgrund: För att lyckas med att genomföra en Ironman krävs att man som utövare har en strategi gällande hur man ska disponera sin energi för att kunna bli en ”finisher”. Detta kallas pacing eller pacing strategi och är den egenstyrda ansträgningen som kan hjälpa utövaren att lyckas med sitt mål och optimera den egna prestationen. Att paca ”rätt” blir därför viktigt för att optimera den egna prestationen då loppet innehåller tre olika moment: simning, cykling och löpning. Syfte: Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka pulsmätning som ett sätt att studera och förstå pacing inom Ironman triathlon. Finns det ett samband mellan utövarens intensitet och cykeltid och har de deltagare som haft en liten pulsvariation en bättre sluttid? Metod: 22 deltagare genomförde ett test för att fastställa sin maxpuls, HRmax. I samband med Ironman Kalmar 2016 registrerades deltagarnas pulsdata med hjälp av pulsmätare och utifrån insamlad pulsdata beräknades deltagarnas intensitet och pulsvariation under cykelmomentet. Dessa värden korrelerades mot deltagarnas cykeltider. Resultat: Den relativa arbetspulsen för studiegruppen var 140 ±9.2 slag/min. Varken intensitet eller variation i intensitet visade något signifikant samband med sluttid även om en trend mot signifikans fanns för intensitet vs cykeltid, p=0.066. Slutsats: Spridningen i gruppen gällande vald intensitet var för stor för att tydligt kunna studera intensitetens betydelse för prestation under cykeldelen i ett IronMan och fler studier är nödvändiga för att kunna kartlägga detta. / Background: In order to succeed in an Ironman it is necessary to have a strategy on how to dispose your energy during the 8-16 hour race. This is called pacing or pacing strategy and is the self-selected effort that can help the competitor to optimize their performance. Based on heart rate measurement, this is particularly interesting during the 180 km cycle section, where drafting is not allowed.Aim: The aim of this investigation was to study pacing in Ironman thriathlon. Is there a relationship between the competitors intensity and biketime and did those who had smaller variation in intensity achieved a better biketime?Method: 22 competitive triathletes undertook a test to find out their HRmax. In conjunction with Ironman Kalmar 2016 the participants HR-data was registered with heartrate monitors and the data was then analyzed in order to determine the participants mean intensity and variation in intensity. These factors were used to understand pacing based on the participants heartrate and correlated to biketimes for each participant. Results: Average intensity for the participants was 140 ±9.2 bpm and the results show no significanct correlation between biketime and either the intensity chosen by the competitor or the variation in intensity. However, there was a trend towards significance for the intensity vs biketime, p = 0.066. Conclusion: This study was unable to determine the effect of pacing due to the selected intensity within the group was too large to clearly study the importance of intensity for performance during the cycle part of an IronMan and further studies are required.

Abstraction of the VillaWohlstetter, Andrew Michael 27 July 2023 (has links)
This thesis is an investigation and analysis of a classical typology, the Villa, aided by extensive travel and research. The project begins to identify a new found set of guidelines of proportion, planes, points, and the space in between them to understand the forms in which a Villa can take within its landscape. An understanding of the wealth and opulence required to live in one of these Villas broaches the way we begin to think about the amounts of space required to live. A purely hand drawn and produced set of drawings were produced, punctuating deliberate choices in construction and landscape. These abstractions are then brought to fruition through model and painting, breathing life into the ideas that are displayed. / Master of Architecture / This project is a result of the exposure and analysis of the classic typology of the VIlla. An early interest in Palladio, fueled by an incredible and rigorous study abroad program led to research and study into the ways in which a building can have an emotional impact on its inhabitants, and how a building begins to feel connected to its landscape. The thesis developed into a search for order, a way of ordering and arriving at a solution of proportion, points, planes and atria. These aspects then created the Villas, a series of abstracted ideas of an ideal getaway in a vibrant countryside.

Choir Boy, A Scenic DesignMerluzzi, Michael S 05 1900 (has links)
All designers tend to have different styles and procedures that they tend to follow when they approach a design. Not only does this aid us in streamlining our process for ease and efficiency, but it also allows us to feel like we have left our individual and personal mark on the project, whether it is recognized by every individual audience member or not. In the Spring of 2023, I was informed by Professor Fred Duer that that my thesis assignment would be serving as the Scenic Designer for Temple University’s Department of Theatre Production of Choir Boy in the Fall of 2023. Furthermore, being that it was my thesis project, and that the production opened so early in the season, I was asked to begin working on the project as soon as possible, including working on said project over the summer. Choir Boy by Tarell Alvin McCraney premiered in London in 2012, and has since had runs at the collegiate level, regional theatres, as well as Off and On Broadway. Despite being about a decade old and its recent popularity, the Scenic Designs have been largely different from production to production- which typically means the audience enters the theater with no pre-conceived expectations of what they’ll be seeing in a design, which gives the production team much more flexibility in making their production their own.
As a Theatrical Designer of any discipline the, the first goal should always be to work with the creative team as well as the director to create a world that best benefits the text provided to us by the playwright via the publishing company. By not working together and creating something that fits the text, productions can end up looking incoherent and disjointed. It also leads to contention in the design process, and difficulties once the team begins to implement their designs, and once the director and performers get into the space. Apart from the previously stated goal, I had individual goals that I also hoped to achieve while working on this assignment. I always strive to make a design that is unique to the show (within the bounds that are called for), this is ultimately dealt with in the initial concept and research work. I also strive to (with the team) create a world on stage that pulls the audience out of their day-to-day lives, at least for the duration of the show. If the audience is able to forget about anything going on in their head and live within the action of the play, then I believe that we did our job. Finally, and more uniquely related to this project, I had to both explore and relate to topics and motifs that I am not directly familiar with. I intended to weigh my success on my ability to accomplish these goals. / Theater

A Study of the Relevancy of the Curriculum in Architectural Drafting Technology Offered at Utah Technical College at Salt lake CitySchnirel, James R. 01 May 1975 (has links)
The objectives of this study were to determine if the present curriculum in Architectural Drafting Technology presently offered at Utah Technical College at Salt Lake is meeting the needs of the architectural, engineering , and construction fields in Utah ; additionally, if students are prepared to enter the architectural and related fields with job entry skills and, after employment, if students have sufficient skills to broaden experience on the job; additionally, are students prepared to continue their education, if desired.
Literature reviewed included masters' theses , a doctoral dissertation, periodicals , brochures, and professional publications . A survey instrument was developed and sent to 85 students who had attended three quarters or more at Utah Technical College. The students were asked how many quarters attended; if graduated; employment after attending the college; continued education; subjects they felt they should have received more training in; and also, students were asked to rank technical subject areas and related subject areas and were asked to make additional comments, if desired. The professional evaluation form was mailed to 75 architects, 40 contractors, and 35 engineers. Each was asked to rank major skills and knowledges in technical and related subject areas; other categories were added and a section for comments, if desired.
Principle findings were that technician training should be at the post-high school level preparing for employment; High interest in the program was expressed by the students and professionals surveyed; Programs should be evaluated curriculum needs to be adjusted in areas of course, time in laboratories, relating general education; former students are prepared to continue their education; and, finally, the program is meeting the needs of students and the architectural profession. Contact need to be made in the fields of contracting and engineering.
