Significant Norwegian choral music since World War II: A study of the compositional styles of Knut Nystedt and Egil Hovland.Vangerud, James Karl. January 1990 (has links)
Since the end of World War II many Scandinavians have emerged as important choral music composers. This study focuses on two Norwegian composers, Knut Nystedt and Egil Hovland. Two works by Nystedt, "Thou O Lord," and "Praise to God," and one work by Hovland, Missa Misericordiae, are analyzed to determine the most important features of the compositional styles of Nystedt and Hovland. The analysis reveals that factors such as the Norwegian national romantic movement of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, ancient music styles such as Gregorian chant, twentieth century techniques such as neoclassicism and dodecaphony, and recent reforms in Norwegian Church music have influenced the compositional style of both men. The evidence suggests that although Nystedt and Hovland have many similarities in compositional style both men have developed a highly individual musical language that is accessible yet challenging to the listener, conductor, and choir.

結構型金融商品之評價--以利率連動債券為例 / The pricing of structured notes: Interest rate-linked product李政儒, Lee, Cheng Ju Unknown Date (has links)

The object of this study is to explore musical popularization as an activity and a pedagogical tool. In the first place, we identified the major figures in this field from Germany, France, Great Britain, the United States, and Quebec. We also interviewed three Quebec musicologists (Pierre Vachon, Guy Marchand and Dujka Smoje) in order to better understand their professional reality. In the second place, we prepared two oral presentations and wrote program notes for five concerts given by musical societies from Montreal, namely Les Grands vents de Montréal, Clavecin en concert, Pentaèdre, Portmantô Ensemble, and Société de musique contemporaine du Québec. The program notes and oral presentations were used to test the relevance of four musical popularization models especially conceived for this study. These models each addressed one particular dimension of the works: their meaning (model A), structure (model B), historical reception (model C), and execution (model D). The listeners’ answers to questionnaires that we distributed to them prior to the performance showed that models B and C were particularly effective in enhancing their aesthetic experience.

Sémiotika tlumočnického zápisu / Semiotics of note-taking in consecutive interpretingHrušovská, Petra January 2014 (has links)
The present thesis focuses on semiotic aspects of note-taking in consecutive interpreting, in particular with respect to the process of semiosis and factors influencing the interpreters' conception of their notes. Chapter 1 mentions the basic features of note-taking in order to trace its semiotic characteristics in the following parts of the thesis. In Chapter 2, the notes as a specific semiotic system are briefly discussed within the framework of the second Peircean trichotomy of signs (cases of iconicity, indexicality and symbolicity are demonstrated) and in terms of their function, productivity and spatial settings. After these general considerations, Chapter 3 introduces the main theoretical approaches to the technique of note-taking (principally those of the Geneva and Heidelberg schools) including the issues of the languages involved in interpreting or the nature of signs. As the accent is on the process of semiosis (apprehension of signs by interpreters, generating signs according to the meaning of the speech and searching for the motivation for the interpreters' concrete choices of signs and their form), the chapter lists some basic signs and methods well- tested by practitioners. The signs are also analysed in terms of their origin and possibilities of expansion (composition, derivation...

R. K. Min'jar-Beloručev: autorův systém tlumočnické notace v kontextu / R. K. Minyar-Beloruchev: His Note-taking System for ConsecutiveHamanovich, Maryna January 2016 (has links)
The present thesis is a descriptive theoretical study which aims at mapping Min'jar- Beloruchev's work in the context of contemporary and modern theories and presenting a comprehensive view of author's note-taking system for consecutive interpreting. The analysis of the system forms the crux of this thesis, which focuses on sources that represent the basis of the system, individual features of the system as well as factors that influenced his decisions while working on the system. Other parts of the thesis focuse on a consecutive interpreting training system, that was developed by the author, and to some extent deal with his views on translatology as a science and the interpreting process itself.

Cenné papíry s důrazem na směnku jako důležitý nástroj obchodních závazkových vztahů / Securities with a focus on bills of exchange and promissory notes as important tools in business obligationsChlpeková, Veronika January 2011 (has links)
in English Securities with a focus of bills of exchange and promissory notes as important tools in business obligations The institute of securities accompanies the society for many centuries and has become an indispensable part of economic life. Although, with few exceptions represented apparently only by Slovak and Swiss legal order, there is no general definition of concept of security, it does not hinder to define its characteristics, which are the instrument, respectively any material substrate able to capture a written declaration of will and incorporated subjective property right originating in the private area. Of the above may be deduced the close connection between right and document, which is it's materialization. In connection with the development of social needs, especially in the area of trade, disadvantages of document that was originally considered as a necessary condition of the existence of a valid security, appeared. As a result, the process of dematerialisation of securities started and the document has been replaced by the entry in the register of securities. Nowadays, therefore, the securities may exist both in paper and in book entry form, what undoubtedly facilitate the implementation of some complicated business transactions. The presented thesis combines the interpretation...

Selection for remedial intervention: The validationDockrat, Shafeeka 23 February 2007 (has links)
Student Number: 9109265Y
A research report submitted to the Faculty of Humanities, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, in fulfilment of the requirements for
the degree of Master of Arts (Psychology) / The Academic Proficiency Assessment battery evaluates language and study
skills. This study focused on the internal consistency reliability and predictive
validity of this battery for Information Technology students.
In terms of reliability, the Time management, Note-taking skills, and Debilitating
stress scale on the achievement anxiety questionnaire were found to be
internally consistent. However, the items in the English proficiency, Reading
comprehension, Memorisation skills, concentration skills and motivating stress
scale on the achievement anxiety questionnaire require modification or
replacement. Intercorrelations across questionnaires necessitate further
streamlining.
In terms of predictive validity, a significant negative relationship was found
between Note-taking Skills and academic performance (R2
adj = 8,3%). Matric
results remain the best predictor accounting for 11% of the variance in CGPA.
Cumulatively, Matric results and Note-taking skills accounted for 13,34% of the
variance. None of the biographical variables significantly predicted CGPA.
Despite the apparent lack of relationship between individual predictors and the
criterion, a discriminant function analysis indicated that all the academic
proficiencies, with the exception of English proficiency, correctly predicted pass
or failure in 72% of the cases. The lack of relationship between English
proficiency and pass/failure can be accounted for in terms of the type of courses
studied as part of an Information Technology programme.Overall, the results would suggest that Matric results remain the best predictor of
academic performance in Information Technology courses, but at a very low
level. Given the lack of reliability in the majority of the subtests of the Academic
Proficiency Battery, the use of the APA battery for selection for remedial
intervention for Information Technology students is not yet justified.

DIgital assist: comparison of two note-taking methods (traditional vs. digital pen) for students with emotional behavioral disordersUnknown Date (has links)
High school biology classes traditionally follow a lecture format to disseminate content and new terminology. With the inclusive practices of No Child Left Behind, the Common Core State Standards, and end-of-course exam requirement for high school diplomas, classes include a large range of achievement levels and abilities. Teachers assume, often incorrectly, that students come to class prepared to listen and take notes. In a standard diploma, high school biology class in a separate school for students with emotional and behavioral disorders, five students participated in a single-subject, alternating treatment design study that compared the use of regular pens and digital pens to take notes during 21 lecture sessions. Behavior measures were threefold between the two interventions: (a) quantity of notes taken per minute during lectures, (b) quantity of notes or notations taken during review pauses, and (c) percent of correct responses on the daily comprehension quizzes. ... However, the differences were minor, and recommendations are made for specific training in note-taking, the pause strategy, and digital pen fluency which may produce different results for both note-taking and quiz scores. / by Carlotta A.
