De generella dragen för en novell som framkommit, har jämförts med Dagermans novell "Överraskningen" för att befästas. "En hund begraven" har jämförts med både novellens generella mönster och "Överraskningen". Resultatet visar på att hypotesen, att "En hund begraven" skulle kunna kategoriseras som en novell, inte stämmer.</p>

Maja åker hiss med Mats, en granne. När hissen fastnar visar sig Majas klaustrofobi och Mats behöver snabbt lära sig hur man hjälper henne bäst. Ellinor har en älskare som inte är intresserad av något riktigt förhållande. Den smärtsamma processen att inse detta vecklar ut sig.

<p>The aim of this essay is to examine the attitudes towards publication of short stories, carried by the employees of Bokförlaget Forum, a randomly chosen Swedish publishing house. The study seeks to investigate the causes behind and consequences of the attitudes, as well as their generality. Through qualitative interviews, carried out with five of the company’s employees, the short story is defined as a problematic genre, mainly due to its low commercial success. The conclusions drawn from the interviews are put into a historical perspective, where the developments of the short story-genre, as well as that of the modern Swedish book market, are discussed. By putting Forum into the context of Pierre Bourdieu’s theories about cultural fields, the company’s behaviour in connection to the short story is further analyzed. The main finding of the study is that the Swedish short story of today is viewed as a difficult, high qualitative literary genre. A commercial publishing house like Forum therefore has an impossible task when trying to win success by launching short stories. Due to the genre’s low expected gains the publishers of Forum only accept short story manuscripts with an extremely high literary quality, and thus reinforces the role of the short story as a “difficult” genre. The study defines this profile as the consequence of a combination of increased commercialism and dislocation of power in the book market, altered publishing conditions for short stories, and an experimental literary label that clings on.</p>

Tage Aurell (1895-1976) var en originell författare som fick ett senkommet erkännande på 1940-talet. Kortromaner han gav ut på 1930-talet gick inte hem vare sig hos kritiker eller läsare. Varför? Min uppsats syftar till attklarlägga vad det var som gjorde Aurell så egenartad. Det sker genom en noggrann läsning och undersökningav hansroman Martina från 1937. Det skerockså genom att berättelsen analyseras med hjälp av begrepp somlitteraturforskarna Wayne CBooth, Seymor Chatman och Gerald Prince lanserat och diskuterat. Jag vill också pröva vad för slags bok Martinaär. En roman, en novell, en berättelse på prosa? Genretillhörigheten är inte självklar. Arbetet har lett fram till följande slutsatser: Martina är snarareen novell än en roman. Aurell är modernist men ingen vanlig modernist med intresse för den stora staden och livet där. Hans miljö är landsbygden. Inspirerad av främst Gustave Flaubert och Herman Bang är han också impressionist och har en berättarteknik som är karakteristisk för denna riktning: en berättare som håller distans, fri indirekt anföring, scenfragment, glimtar och antydningar, till exempel.Inget psykologiserande. Protagonisterna får avslöja sig genom handlingar och repliker. Närheten till dramat är påfallande. Aurell skrev kortprosa och var extremt sparsmakad med orden när andra med framgång skrev tjocka ordrika romaner. Han ville inte skriva många böcker, bara några små, men de böckerna skulle vara bra, sade han själv.
