Invloed van agtergrondmusiek rakende graad 6-leerders se gedragspatrone

Hendriks, Marna January 2014 (has links)
The abolition of corporal punishment in South African schools led to greater discipline problems among students. Teachers are becoming increasingly frustrated as few practical solutions to this problem exist. This study examines the role that background music in the classroom can play in the child's ability to concentrate, increasing his positive behavior and so the improvement of discipline in the classroom. Background music is part of every child's world as modern technology makes listening to music part of everyday living. Learners listen to a large portion of music every day, even while they are doing homework. Therefore it was necessary to study the influence of background music as to what extend it can benefit the student in the classroom. This study used practical action research within a qualitative research design. From the relationship between the learner's behaviour and observations after classical instrumental music was played in the classroom, this type of background music can be used as a potential technique to improve discipline in the classroom. / Dissertation (MMus)--University of Pretoria, 2014. / am2014 / Music / unrestricted

Ontwikkeling en implementering van 'n lewenskunde kurrikulum vir biologie in die sekondere skool / The development and implementation of a life-science curriculum for Biology in the secondary school

Van Vollenstee, Thelma 11 1900 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / An increase in information accompanied by scientific and technological development necessitates the re-evaluation of the present Biology Curriculum, as the curriculum does not meet the demands of the community. An analysis of the above-mentioned problem reveals the structure and principles of Biology as a subject and the bio-ethic factors which to a larger extend influence man's values as technology and information change. By means of a literature study and personal interviews the development and design of a lifescience curriculum for Biology is formulated. Within this, several aspects concerning the teaching of a lifescience Biology Curriculum will be discussed. Important methods and strategies required for the successful teaching of Biology include a process approach, a constructivism approach, demonstration, discovery, reflective and metalearning, practical work, discussions and co-operative learning methods. The successful teaching of Biology, however, goes hand in hand with effective preservice and inservice training of Biology teachers. / Curriculum and Instructional Studies / M. Ed. (Didaktiek)

Classroom practices of some natural sciences teachers of the Vhembe District, Limpopo Province

Netshivhumbe, Ndivhuwo Prudence 07 1900 (has links)
Abstracts in English, Sotho and Afrikaans / The purpose of this study was to explore the classroom practices of Senior Phase Natural Sciences teachers in some of the schools of the Vhembe District. Qualitative case study approach was employed and three teachers participated. The following research questions were explored: What is the level of the teacher’s subject-matter knowledge in the teaching of Natural Sciences (NS)? What is the nature of the teacher’s instructional strategies in the teaching of NS? How does the teacher’s subject-matter knowledge and instructional strategies shape the teachers’ classroom interaction and discourse in the teaching of NS? Interviews, observations and a questionnaire have been used for data collection. Teachers used their teaching experiences to teach NS. Results indicated lack of teachers, facilities and resources. It is recommended that the Department of Education as an arm of government should see that schools have the facilities, resources and teachers they need for proper teaching and learning as well as providing sufficient workshops to improve teachers’ classroom practices. / Science and Technology Education / M.
