An Analysis of the Texas University Interscholastic League One-Act Play Directors as Drama Teachers

Pettigrew, Eva Jo 05 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to determine (1) what training is recommended for high school teachers of drama, (2) what training the high school teachers of drama actually have, (3) what job situation is recommended for the high school teacher of drama, and (4) what job situation the high school teachers of drama in the State of Texas actually have. This study should determine if there is a significant relationship between what a high school drama teacher should be and what the high school drama teachers of Texas actually are.

The Use of One-Time Password and RADIUS Authentication in a GSS-API Architecture

Yang, Xi January 2006 (has links)
The Generic Security Service Application Program Interface (GSS-API) is an architecture that facilitates applications using distributed security services in a mechanism-independent fashion. GSS-API is supported by various underlying mechanisms and technologies such as Kerberos version 5 and public-key technologies. However, no one-time password based GSS-API mechanism existed. This thesis focuses on an investigation using one-time passwords together with RADIUS authentication as a protection facility for a GSS-API mechanism. This thesis presents a security architecture using one-time passwords to establish a GSS-API security context between two communicating peers. The proposed one-time password based GSS-API mechanism could be used to enhance the security of user authentication. Moreover, the mechanism can greatly facilitate static-password based system’s transition to stronger authentication.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region: Making "One Country, Two Systems" Work

Lui, Percy Luen-Tim 10 February 1999 (has links)
The dissertation examines how the unprecedented principle, "one country, two systems," can best work in Hong Kong. Because of the political, economic, legal, historical and cultural differences between Hong Kong and China, China pledges to let Hong Kong maintain its capitalist system and way of life. The Chinese socialist system and policies will not be practiced in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong people will have a high degree of autonomy in ruling themselves. The actual degree of autonomy that Hong Kong enjoys in governing itself will be the benchmark for evaluating whether the principle is a success or a failure. The best way for Hong Kong to secure its high degree of autonomy, this dissertation argues, is to construct an open and responsible government. To this end, this study proposes a series of institutional changes. These changes include: selecting the Chief Executive by universal suffrage; creating a system of ministerial responsibility; and enacting a freedom of information law. This study also suggests proposals to strengthen the operation of Hong Kong's legislature, the Legislative Council (LegCo). These proposals include: removing restrictions on the legislators' power to initiate "private members" billsâ ; restoring the LegCo's simple majority vote count system; and reforming the LegCo's committee and staff support systems. The purpose of all these changes is to construct an open and responsible governmental system in Hong Kong. Field study included interviews with politicians and academics involved in Hong Kong politics, examining relevant government documents, academic studies, commentaries of the newspapers, and personal observation of the case. The ultimate aim of this dissertation is to contribute to the discussion now being conducted in Hong Kong on the creation of a responsible government and the successful implementation of the principle of "one country, two systems." / Ph. Mobilizing Children to Aid the War Effort: Advancing Progressive Aims Through the Work of the Child Welfare Committee of the Indiana Woman's Council of National Defense and the Children's Bureau during World War One

Jarnecke, Meaghan L. 07 1900 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / This thesis examines the motivations of the Woman’s Council of National Defense. It will examine how women in Indiana and Illinois organized their state and local councils of defense as they embraced home-front mobilization efforts. It will also show that Hoosier women, like women across the United States, became involved in World War One home-front mobilization, in part, to prove their responsibility to the government in order to make an irrefutable claim for suffrage. As a result of extensive home-front mobilization efforts by women, the government was able to fulfill its own agenda of creating a comprehensive record of its citizens, thus guaranteeing a roster of citizens eligible for future wartime mobilization. By examining the Child Welfare Committee and the Children’s Year in a broad view, this thesis supports the assertions of historians like Robert G. Barrows, William J. Breen, and Lynn Dumenil, who have shown how Progressive-minded women advanced Progressive reforms by embracing the war effort and using it to their own advantage.

Classifying Homotopy Types of One-Dimensional Peano Continua

Meilstrup, Mark H. 14 June 2005 (has links) (PDF)
Determining the homotopy type of one-dimensional Peano continua has been an open question of some interest. We give a complete invariant of the homotopy type of such continua, which consists of a pair of subspaces together with a relative homology group. Along the way, we describe reduced forms for one-dimensional Peano continua.

Meeting point - Kvicksund / Mötescentrum Kvicksund

Tystrand, Elin January 2022 (has links)
Kvicksund is located in north west Eskilstuna and is an area with very unique conditions. It's an area that is both divided by the lake Mälaren but also by two municipalities: Västerås in the north and Eskilstuna in the south. In this area you are surrounded by nature while still having access to communications such as trains. My proposal is to build a nursing home in Kvicksund, combined with both a preeschool and café to form a "Meeting point". The building is located near the center for the area with close proximity to the coast and the train station. By connecting the nursing home to a public building the public space is made available to those who have the most difficulty to reach it. Having elders not become isolated is very important and by activating the brain with different activities and new meetings the risk of dementia decrease. In the building there are three departments: one for people with dementia and two somatic departments. There's also a large dining room, living room, exercise room and multiple large courtyards located in and around the building. In the public area of the building there's an open preschool, a café and several common rooms. The building is organized in a way so that the nursing home has one side of the building and the preschool and the cafe have the other.  The two sides are connected by the common areas, this is to simplify different activities between the two sides. The preschool is the only one with a second story and the rest of the building is one story. It's design to be as accessible as possible and create a feeling of independence in the elderly as they can reach all premises without assistance. Personally, I have always gotten an anxious feeling at the thought of a home for the elderly and that is precisely my reason for designing one. This is not a place to skimp on and it is not a place for people to be hidden away in. This is a place which should be full of activities, joy and life!
