Gyvenimo stilius ir tėvų mokymo programos STEP efektyvumas auklėjimo stiliui ir suvokimui apie vaiko elgesį / Lifestyle dynamics and efficacy of Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) on parenting style and perception of child behaviorJonynienė, Jolita 28 January 2013 (has links)
Disertacijoje nagrinėjamas Individualiosios psichologijos teoriniu požiūriu pagrįstos tėvų mokymo programos STEP (angl. Systematic Training for Effective Parenting; Dinkmeyer, McKay, Dinkmeyer, 1997) efektyvumas.
Changes in parenting style and parental perception of child‘s behavior as well as knowledge on parenting were measured as indicators of education efficacy. The effect of various program participant- and leader-related characteristics and participation in the program factors for these changes were explored. The significance of Adlerian lifestyle dynamics as reflected in lifestyle themes for predicting the education efficacy were also assessed.
In the empirical section of the dissertation, the results of the research study with pre-, post-test assessment and follow-up carried out in 2011-2012 are presented. The findings showed that the STEP program is efficacious for increasing knowledge on parenting, decreasing maternal authoritarian and permissive parenting style and maternal perception of the target child’s emotionally charging behavior. The follow-up assessment three to four months later indicated that the changes were stable. The results also indicated that maternal age, education, birth order position, target child’s birth order position and participation with a partner, homework assignments completed are significant for the efficacy of the STEP program with mothers. The significant relationships of efficacy of the STEP program with mothers were revealed with program leader’s birth order... [to full text]

A Newborn Screening Disorders Online Portal for Primary Care Providers and ParentsWhittemore, Jean Becky 01 January 2019 (has links)
Parents do not always receive accurate, timely and comprehensive information regarding a positive newborn screening from their infants’ primary care providers. The dissertation outlines the investigation of this problem. The methodology of the study is discussed including the survey of parents and primary care providers using the past system, the development of a web portal with a focus on plain language and action focused handouts. Without a simple to understand parent handout the newborn screening process is more stressful to families. Review of the literature is detailed including newborn screening, patient education, health literacy, Internet usage, online health education, design of patient education websites and the evaluative process of learning tools.
Surveys informed the content of the web-based patient portal for both parents and PCP. Abbreviated parental stress scores did not identify elevated stress in parents during the initial PCP visit when the NBS results and plan of care were discussed. Evaluation of the planned web portal was permanently delayed related to change in statewide policies; thus, a standalone website was developed using Agency for Health Care Research and Quality’s patient education material tool for understandability and actionability of both patient handouts and web portals. Physician actionable NBS handouts were also developed. Formative evaluation using experts’ input, one-to-one trials and small group trials of the handouts for the site were completed with minor revisions made to the portal.
The formative evaluation using the simple survey tool would have provided any additional portal changes required. Strengths of the study to include survey response rates, rigor of the comments by both parents and PCPs as well as constructive feedback from NBS experts are highlighted. The weakness is the lack of having a final participant group identified or available related to local NBS policies. Recommendations for future research are highlighted as well as discussion of changes in federal policy that will now allow further NBS research without the limitations once imposed.

Gesinsbemiddelingsproses met inagneming van die "Children's Act, Act 38 of 2005" / A process of family mediation with reference to the "Children,s Act, Act 38 of 2005"Smit, Mathilda 11 1900 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / Globally divorce is an increasing phenomenon. If not handled correctly it may be significantly destructive for the people involved. The new Children’s Act, Act 38 of 2005 regards the best interests of the child paramount in all matters concerning the care, protection and well-being of a child. It underpins the importance of the full, or specific parental responsibilities of parents, the importance of a conciliatory and non-confrontational approach to the settlement of child-centred disputes. It also mandates that the child has the right to participate in an appropriate way in any matter concerning that child and that his views must be given due consideration. Further Act 38 of 2005, provides for parenting plans to be agreed upon determining the exercise of their respective responsibilities and rights.
The goal of this research was to explore, develop and implement a process of family mediation with reference to Act 38 of 2005. Five families affected by divorce and their children were selected as case studies for qualitative research. Applied research was done within the context of intervention research and the first four phases of Rothman and Thomas’ Intervention Research model was used. Problems caused by divorce were identified and the goal was to address the best interests of the child by improving the co-parenting relationship, parent-child relationships and the quality of parenting.
Information gathering and synthesis took place by using existing information sources, studying natural examples and identifying functional elements of successful models. An observational system was designed. It included the natural observing of the five case studies, specific procedural elements and intervention. The design criteria were applied to the preliminary intervention concept. / Social Work / D.Diac. (Spelterapie-Rigting)

The role of school managers in parental involvement in education in secondary schoolsPerumal, Munsamy 01 1900 (has links)
Parental involvement in education is not a new concept;
parents have always been involved in education in various ways
and to various degrees. Perhaps nowr parents are more
sensitive to the important role it plays in ensuring the full
potential of the child is realised. Departing from the
premise, that it is important, useful and necessary, the
researcher has embarked upon an in depth literature study of
parental involvement in education in various communities and
has undertaken an empirical investigation of the involvement
of parents of pupils in secondary schools in the Phoenix
North area. The main thrust of this research was to explore
the obstacles to parents being involved fully in the
education of their children and to make appropriate
recommendations to the principals, as the school managers. / Educational Leadership and Management / M. Ed. (Educational Management)

The aim of this thesis is to describe appropriate and threatening educational strategies that have arisen as a result of parental divorce, and based on the theoretical recommendations and research conducted among a selected group of respondents to formulate educational recommendations that minimizes problems of children from divorced families. The survey seeks to answer questions about what respondents selected as their options to manage a period around parents divorce and what made the situation worse. To achieve the objectivity of this thesis were to set partial goals: 1. To find out how the respondent assessed with hindsight suitability and unsuitability of educational strategies used by parents during divorce 2. compare their opinions with the strategies formulated in the theoretical part. The focus of this work is qualitative research, processed by using content analysis of the interview. Semi-structured interviews with selected respondents from single-parent families aged between 19 and 25 years old, reversely maps their view on the appropriate educational strategies of their parents. The interviews were analyzed based on criteria described in theoretical part. Then I individual analyse interviews and match them to accordingly. Most helpful for respondents were supportive persons which they...
