An Empirical Examination of the Effects of Permission, Interactivity, Vividness and Personalisation on Consumer Attitudes toward E-mail MarketingManeesoonthorn, Chadinee, Pear January 2006 (has links)
The major objective of this study is to explore empirically the effects of permission, interactivity, vividness and personalisation upon attitude, behavioural intention and recommendation to e-mail marketing (the latter two variables being proxies for behaviour). The proposed model is based on the integrated framework of Fishbein and Ajzen's Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA), Triadis's Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) and Rettie's 2002 Basic E-mail Response Process Model. For data collection, qualitative and quantitative studies were used. The qualitative results from four semi-structured interviews reveal New Zealand enterprises' strong trust in permission-based e-mail marketing and how they implement it as one of their marketing strategies. The quantitative component presents and empirically tests the proposed model in terms of a personalisation (presence/absence), interactivity (low/high) and vividness (low/medium/high) (2*2*3) between-subjects factorial design, where subjects were exposed to an e-mail advertisement for a mobile phone. From 650 responses collected by clicking on an e-mail link through an online web survey, the data was analysed with analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). Based on strong suggestions in the literature and findings in the qualitative study on the importance of permission-based marketing, attitude toward permission e-mail was examined as one of the dependent variables in the quantitative study. Results reveal similarities and differences in the effects of interactivity, vividness and personalisation respectively between the low and high attitude toward permission based e-mail marketing groups. Although significant effects of interactivity on attitude and behavioural intention were observed, the nature of those effects proved contrary to the author's expectation. In terms of vividness, results showed significant effects on attitude and behavioural intention in both groups as anticipated. Conversely, personalisation was shown to have no effect on attitude and behavioural intention in any group, however, a positive effect on response rates was indicated. Two three-way interaction effects between interactivity, vividness and personalisation on attitude toward brand and friend recommendation were found only in the high group. This study strongly encourages e-mail marketers to respect their customers' privacy and to employ a permission-based marketing concept within their business strategy. The design of the e-mail (moderate to high vividness) and personalisation (use of recipient's name) are indicated to have a positive impact on the effectiveness of an e-mail ad. Future research should examine a permission-based marketing construct as a longitudinal study, and investigate personalisation at a higher level (based on recipients' preferences).

Permission Marketing : A Systematic Literature Review: Future Research Agenda and Policy RecommendationsSchneider, Hannah, Dana, Jetesa January 2022 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose of this thesis was to conduct a systematic literature review in the domain of permission marketing to provide a comprehensive future research agenda and policy recommendations. Design/methodology/approach: This research paper worked with a systematic literature review as a method, where articles will be selected, screened, reviewed, and synthesized. In total, the review included 61 studies. This study developed a detailed future research agenda in the form of the TCCM framework that can be followed to further explore the domain. Findings: Consistent throughout the literature has been that certain underlying factors have a crucial influence on the domain of permission marketing. Those factors include trust, transparency, control, and privacy concerns affecting the consent giving which then affects the permission marketing. Ultimately, these aspects led to considering the field from an ethical perspective and thus, guided the development of policy recommendations including ethical considerations where the perspectives of consumers and company were highlighted. Research limitations/implications: The conceptual model developed within this research paper was solely developed based on the gathered synthesized literature due to the time frame limitations. Future researchers are encouraged to validate the findings empirically. Furthermore, the researchers have developed a detailed future research agenda in the form of the TCCM framework that can be followed to further explore the domain. Practical implications: Reviewing the literature has led to the conclusion that policymaking is in need of some additions and improvements. Thus, the paper provides policy-making implications for practitioners from both an organizational standpoint, as well as a governmental one. Originality: The originality of this thesis is that it conducts a systematic summary and analysis of accessible field knowledge in order to provide a comprehensive overview of permission marketing antecedents, which was priorly lacking in the domain. Through the lenses of a systematic literature review, the outcomes of the thesis provide guidance as to the unique value proposition. To the best of the researcher's knowledge, this research is the only one that incorporates the method of systematic literature review within the domain and time frame of 15-01-2022 to 15-04-2022. Keywords: Permission Marketing, Privacy Concerns, Ethical Marketing, Trust, Transparency, Control, Consent, Personal Data Paper type: Systematic Literature review (SLR)

Attitudes Towards Permission-Based Email Marketing : A Quantitative Study of Consumer Attitudes and Loyalty Perceptions in Permission-Based Email Marketing in Sweden.Lidberg, Linnéa, Rosenlöf, Matilda January 2024 (has links)
Background: Permission-based email marketing relies on consumers' permission to receive marketing emails. This perspective of marketing offers a cost-effective way to engage with interested customers, offering personalised content and exclusive offers. Further, it influences purchasing behaviour and customer retention, emphasising the importance of trust in successful campaigns. However, research emphasises the necessity for further exploration into the impact of promotional emails on consumer attitudes and emotions. Purpose: This research examines consumer attitudes toward permission-based emails from a Swedish perspective. Further, the study aims to explore how these attitudes influence brand loyalty. Method: This study adopts a positivist approach, employing a deductive method and quantitative data collection. Data collection for this study was gathered through an online survey using a convenience sampling method. A total of 145 respondents contributed to the data set. The result is analysed using Structural equation modelling to understand relationships between several constructs. Conclusion: This thesis's findings indicate a positive attitude toward Permission-based Email Marketing, with perceived personal relevance and current engagement being key predictors. A positive association between attitude towards permission-based email marketing and loyalty was determined. Contrary to prior literature, perceived privacy concerns and registration efforts were determined not to influence attitudes significantly. Collectively, the results emphasise the significance of personal relevance and engagement in shaping consumer perceptions of permission-based email marketing, ultimately enhancing brand loyalty.

Purpose The purpose of this essay is to identify new development opportunities for direct mail. What impact has direct mail on the companies? Method This essay we have chosen to implement is based on a deductive approach with a qualitative nature. We made this choice to be able to answer our research problem. We have conducted six interviews, to collect our empirical data, with managers in companies that are working or in contact with direct mail. Three of these were personal interviews, two telephone interviews and one was made by e-mail. Conclusions We have found that direct mail is still a very strong and very current marketing channel. Despite the stigma that direct mail has been received to be spam and junk mail it has something special to bring to the customers. Direct mail´s physical attributes creates a special feeling among consumers. Direct mail has several positive features, since we believe that it can both drive sales and build brands as long as its message is relevant to the consumer. For the relevance to be included in the message, companies have to deal with consumer privacy with respect. Companies can conform to consumer´s integrity by having a sufficiently close communication with the customer, which in time also strengthens the relationship. Companies communicate with customers through the addressed direct mail, which therefore has to be defined for us to develop. The potential is therefore in that the consumer can by using an internet based technology choose the advertising that they want in their mailbox. This permission marketing based solution helps companies to have a better look on their clients, which also could ultimately lead to strength consumer´s loyalty. As customers become more loyal so will the companies' success rates by mailing to be better. The total volume of direct mail will be reduced which leads to a better environment conditions, while companies distribution costs will be also decreased. When the percentage of satisfied customers grows, the profitability of companies will increase. Therefore, we believe that this proposal is something that both businesses and customers benefit from in the long run as the model contributes to a win - win situation where both parties end up being winners.

What does engage users on FacebookAronsson, Linda January 2017 (has links)
Purpose – The purpose of this study is to give companies and organization's knowledge on how to create relevant content that interests their customers and how they can work with their marketing on Facebook. Method – Methods used in this study are a qualitative study including interviews with experts in the field of marketing in social media. Furthermore, a quantitative study was made through measuring the interaction on three business sites on Facebook. Findings – Findings show that it is important to focus on the purpose and goal for the marketing, and what it will result in. Furthermore, it is not a goal itself to have high engagement. Today, the Facebook users are more anonymous online than earlier, and it has become unusual for them to follow a business site. Creating content that invites the users to co-create and to meet outside social media results in high interaction among the followers in the quantitative study. Lastly, continuous presence is required along with a genuine interest towards the costumers, and that the company gives their customer's attention. Implications – The implication is therefore that users have become more used to that content is directed directly towards them with a high quality and relevance. The content is designed for a specific target group that reaches them at the right time to give them as relevant content as possible. Limitations – The study is limited to the social media Facebook and its users. Furthermore, the study is focused towards marketing on Facebook for business sites.
