Ganhos e perdas em investimentos: um estudo experimental sobre personalidades à luz da teoria do prospecto e do efeito disposição / Gains and losses on investments: an experimental study on personalities under the perspective of the prospect theory and disposition effect

Braga, Robson 23 November 2015 (has links)
Braga, R. (2015). Gains and losses on investments: an experimental study on personalities under the perspective of the prospect theory and disposition effect. PhD Thesis, Department of Accounting and Actuarial Sciences, School of Economics, Business Administration and Accounting, University of Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo. In this study, I investigate the investor behavior of the stock market in the context of gain and loss and the Jungian personality types: extraversion and introversion (Jung, 1971), based on the pillars of prospect theory (Kahneman & Tversky, 1979) and the disposition effect (Shefrin & Statman, 1985). Through experimental strategy, in which volunteers could take stock sale decisions in an environment similar to that of a real trading platform, I could verify whether people make decisions that respect the values of gains and losses they define for themselves. In the experiment, I present four shares of Brazilian companies listed on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange, two of them with strong upward movements, and two with downward movements. The sample was composed by 371 people with at least one year of experience as investor in the stock market. The results from hypotheses tests show that, in general, people make decisions that disregard the gains and losses they previously set for themselves, manifesting behavior that reinforces the debate on disposition effect and loss aversion. Regarding to the types of personalities, there is no significant differences between the results of introverted and extroverted people, signaling that such traits are not enough to explain the performance of investors in financial markets. On the other hand, the introverted people tend to show less willingness for negative results, although in practice they take losses as much as the extroverted people. In this context, the hypothesis that extroverted people have higher deviations of self-defined gains and losses values, in comparison of introverted people, was rejected. A similar result is observed for the performance gap between men and women. Women declared they take on much smaller losses than men, and earn as much as they require. However, the performance achieved with their decisions shows that they lose as much as men and earn much less than they would like. When it comes to introverted women, the results obtained show an even greater deviation between the desired goals and results achieved. My findings reinforce the existing controversy in the literature about gender differences in investment decisions, showing that they do not allow the rejection of the hypothesis of lack of significant differences in results obtained by men and women with same personalities. I also investigate the performance of investors who used scheduled orders for selling. In this context, I find that hypothesis that investors who use scheduled orders with limited losses and gains in previously self-defined values cannot be rejected. However, investors \' hesitation in using this type of strategy allows them to obtain larger losses than they would admit. My findings provide new evidences in the field of behavioral finance, mostly related to the relationship between values of self-defined and obtained gains and losses, operational strategies on stock trading, the personality types and investors performance.

Afetividade, valores e referências morais: um estudo com jovens estudantes da rede pública estadual paulista / Affectivity, values and moral references: a study with young students of the state of São Paulo

Stach-Haertel, Brigitte Ursula 14 March 2017 (has links)
This exploratory qualitative study is based on Educational and Psychological convergent precepts. Our central aim was to identify personal references that could influence moral and ethical values adopted by teenagers. An empirical such as theoretical investigation sought values education in the domain of Moral Psychology looking for a kind of inventory demonstrating admirable characteristics pointed out by nineteen adolescents in the age of seventeen residents of the great São Paulo ABC (reference of the Brazilian trade union movement). The scope was framed by educational influences looking for a kind of privileged ground of interaction between different generations that will hold a reflexive construction of ethical and moral values from about praiseworthy principles. In view of these prerogatives, a central question has guided our research: what kind of influences pass through the constitution of ethical and moral references of the present generation of adolescents? These youngsters third-year high school students by the São Paulo State Public School, twelve males and seven females, were also attended by a socio-educational program of complementary preparation. Composition and organization of them answers to a survey of eight compound questions revealed specificities about moral reasoning of these adolescents demonstrating the uniqueness and complexity way they assume their influences specially considering recent political marches. This data analysis was organized by categories analyzing influences and meanings which results from the singular moral judgment of each of these nineteen participants. Our central results demonstrated that trust committed to proximal others is one of the core values for the constitution of ethical-moral principles among these young people. Therefore out coming evidences confirmed affection relevance as well as, and especially, affectivity constituted from about close and significant personal relationships demonstrating the influence of those with whom the most genuine human bonds are established constituting potentially roots of ethical personalities.

Avaliação Fuzzy de Trocas Sociais entre Agentes com Personalidades / FUZZY EVALUATION OF SOCIAL EXCHANGES BETWEEN PERSONALITY-BASED AGENTS

Santos, André Vinícius dos 31 July 2008 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 Andre-Vinicius.pdf: 1143939 bytes, checksum: 6c38530394bdd70a84905edf6570f0b9 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2008-07-31 / Piaget s Theory of Social Exchanges has been used as the basis for interaction analysis in Multiagent Systems. These interactions are understood as processes of service exchanges between pairs of agents followed by the the evaluation of those services by the agents involved in the processes, producing values of social exchanges. The values emerged form those evaluations are of qualitative nature, that is, subjective values influenced by different aspects related to the internal nature of the agents or effects of the external environment. One of these aspects is the behavioral analysis of the agents in the evaluation process according to their personality traits. In a social exchange process, an agent assigns a value to its investment for performing a service to another agent, and the latter gives a value for its satisfaction in having received such a service. Subsequently, values of debits and credits are also generated, allowing for future exchanges. In this context, this work considers that the agents may assume different personality traits, which lead them to different attitudes concerning the exchanges they choose to perform, the way they evaluate the exchanges or the ways they manage their debits and credits. In the literature, there are some studies on the evaluation of social exchange values, either representing exchange values as numerical intervals (range of values) to simulate their qualitative nature, or obtaining those values using functions over parameters of objective or subjective nature, used for evaluation of exchanged services. In this work, we consider a qualitative method for evaluating social exchanges, considering only the material values of investment and satisfaction, based on Fuzzy Logic. The Fuzzy Logic is justified in this context, since it aims to model the human reasoning and the decision-making in a complex, subjective, incomplete environment, considering uncertainty and inaccuracy. In this dissertation, a service is defined as a set of attributes, whose evaluation based on fuzzy logic, considering different factors of personality, allows us to infer about the fuzzy values of that service, either related to the investment value (by the agent that performs the service) or to the satisfaction value (by the agent that receives the service). The fuzzy equations of material equilibrium in the two stages of social exchanges are also analyzed / A Teoria das Trocas Sociais de Piaget tem sido utilizada como base para a análise de interações em Sistemas Multiagente.

Gonçalves, Luciano Vargas 31 March 2009 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-03-22T17:26:22Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 dm2_Luciano_vargas.pdf: 637463 bytes, checksum: b08b63e8c6a347cd2c86fc24fdfd8986 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-03-31 / The study and development of systems to control interactions in multiagent systems is an open problem in Artificial Intelligence. The system of social exchange values of Piaget is a social approach that allows for the foundations of the modeling of interactions between agents, where the interactions are seen as service exchanges between pairs of agents, with the evaluation of the realized or received services, thats is, the investments and profits in the exchange, and credits and debits to be charged or received, respectively, in future exchanges. This evaluation may be performed in different ways by the agents, considering that they may have different exchange personality traits. In an exchange process along the time, the different ways in the evaluation of profits and losses may cause disequilibrium in the exchange balances, where some agents may accumulate profits and others accumulate losses. To solve the exchange equilibrium problem, we use the Partially Observable Markov Decision Processes (POMDP) to help the agent decision of actions that can lead to the equilibrium of the social exchanges. Then, each agent has its own internal process to evaluate its current balance of the results of the exchange process between the other agents, observing its internal state, and with the observation of its partner s exchange behavior, it is able to deliberate on the best action it should perform in order to get the equilibrium of the exchanges. Considering an open multiagent system, it is necessary a mechanism to recognize the different personality traits, to build the POMDPs to manage the exchanges between the pairs of agents. This recognizing task is done by Hidden Markov Models (HMM), which, from models of known personality traits, can approximate the personality traits of the new partners, just by analyzing observations done on the agent behaviors in exchanges. The aim of this work is to develop an hybrid agent architecture for the self-regulation of social exchanges between personalitybased agents in a open multiagent system, based in the BDI (Beliefs, Desires, Intentions) architecture, where the agent plans are obtained from optimal policies of POMDPs, which model personality traits that are recognized by HMMs.
