Educação a distância (EAD): a realidade brasileira e as contribuições de Otto Peters

Melita Hickel 21 October 2009 (has links)
The here presented PhD thesis is the result of the research by its author, started after her direct promotion for Doctorate, which followed her passing the Qualifying Exam for Master, as well as of notes on activities previously undertaken and directly related to the theme. The research has as subject the modality of education Distance Education (DE), and as main theoretical basis the work of Prof. Dr. Otto Peters and the analysis of the Legislation of Brazil in the area, as well as those of Brazilian DE researchers and a brief presentation of four universities in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. In the first chapter a brief biobibliography of Prof. Peters is presented, alongside some of the main factors present in his work that are of extreme importance for DE. Otto Peters was the founder and first rector of the FernUniversität (FU) in Hagen, Distance University of Germany, which is operating since the beginning of December 1974, being an iconic reference in the area, having contributed and still largely contributing for the development of DE and the credibility and recognition that this modality of education enjoys nowadays. In this chapter are also to be found data registers about the FernUniversität and the interview with Prof. Peters which took place in Hagen. The second chapter focuses on the presentation of the legislation of Brazilian for the modality of education studied, as well as the analysis of some of its most significant and relevant aspects for this work and briefly the proposed work in the area of distance education four universities in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The third one comprehends a series of questions and reflections pertinent to DE and attempts of answers to them.

Die Musikbibliothek Peters: Ein kulturhistorischer Schatz für Leipzig

Geyer, Brigitte 10 December 2013 (has links)

A Computational Assessment of Laminar Flame Speed Correlation in an Ultralean Prechamber Engine

Alkhamis, Ghufran 11 1900 (has links)
Predictive modeling of pre-chamber combustion engines relies primarily on the correct prediction of laminar and turbulent flame speeds. While the latter has been rigorously derived, the former correlations are mostly semi-empirical and valid for a limited range of operating conditions. The current work aims at highlighting the fundamental significance of correct laminar flame speed prediction on numerical modeling of ultralean prechamber engine combustion. Gulder's empirical correlation for laminar flame speed was chosen for the current work. It was modified for ranges beyond what it was originally derived for. It was initially observed that the numerical results that utilize Gulder's correlation for the laminar flame speed underperform compared to the one computed from the skeletal GRI3.0 by Lu and Law. In all cases, Peters' turbulent flame speed correlation was used, which evidences that any potential difference comes from the laminar flame speed. Using Lu and Law's chemical mechanism as a reference for laminar flame speed calculations, the values of the empirical constants α, η, and ξ in Gulder's correlation were optimized to yield more accurate flame speeds at ultralean engine conditions. The updated Gulder's correlation for methane was implemented in CONVERGE, a three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solver, and validated against the experimental engine results from KAUST. The flame topology was also explored to correlate the observed behaviors in the pressure predictions among all tested cases. Finally, the Borghi-Peters diagram provides insightful information on combustion regimes encountered in pre-chamber combustion engines.

The Divine Coming of the Light

Peters, Clinton Crockett 05 1900 (has links)
The Divine Coming of the Light is a memoir-in-essays that covers an experience, from 2007 to 2010, when I lived in Kosuge Village (population 900), nestled in the mountains of central Japan. I was the only foreigner there. My memoir uses these three years as a frame to investigate how landscape affects identity. The book profiles who I was before Japan (an evangelical and then wilderness guide), why I became obsessed with mountains, and the fall-out from mountain obsession to a humanistic outlook. The path my narrator takes is one of a mountain hike. I was born in tabletop-flat West Texas to conservative, Christian parents in the second most Republican county by votes in America. At 19, I made my first backpacking trip to the San Juan Mountains of western Colorado and was awed by their outer-planetary-like massiveness. However, two friends and I became lost in the wilderness for three days without cell phones. During this time, an obsession possessed me as we found our way back through the peaks to safety, a realization that I could die out there, yes, but amid previously unknown splendor. I developed an addiction to mountains that weakened my religious faith. Like the Romantic poets before me, God transferred from the sky to the immense landscape. I jettisoned my beliefs and became an outdoor wilderness instructor. On every peak I traveled up, I hoped to recreate that first conversion experience when I was lost in the woods. After college, while teaching English in Kosuge Village, I learned about the mountain-worshipping religion Shugendo: a mixture of Buddhism, Shintoism, and Shamanism. I climbed dozens of peaks, spending several days backpacking. However, while in Japan, I was nearly fatally injured on a solo, month-long hike. I saw the accident as a warning and turned my attention to studying writing and literature. When I came to Japan, I went up mountains, but as I left, I came down. The book profiles my experiences with mountains and my double disillusionment, leveling off with a humanistic outlook, leaving the narrator less a wanderer but more willing to empathize with other people.
