The Impostor Phenomenon as a Threat to Professional Resilience and Profession-Wide Diversity in the Psychology Trainee to Workforce Pipeline

Williams, Amber Lavonne 07 1900 (has links)
Racial and ethnic diversity representation in the field of health service psychology is neither equitable nor reflective of the increasingly diverse population nationwide. This discrepancy is endemic to widespread problems associated with mental health care: Minorities are severely underrepresented in the workforce, in psychology training programs, and in treatment populations. The longstanding lack of diversity among trainees in doctoral programs and among professionals in the workforce is associated with poorer mental health outcomes among minority patients; however, the specific contributors that facilitate and maintain racial/ethnic diversity constriction appear to be understudied. Based on the extant literature, a reasonable hypothesis might be that admission of qualified underrepresented minorities to doctoral training is constricted by ineffective and/or outdated recruitment and admissions practices. The proposed study sought to investigate whether impostor feelings or self-reported resilience might be predictive of intent to apply to graduate programs among underrepresented minority students earning their bachelor's degree in psychology. Results indicated that resilience was the most impactful variable in undergraduate students' intent to apply to graduate programs. Hypothesized ethnic differences in impostor feelings and self-perceived resilience were not observed in the study sample. The larger implications of these findings underscore the need for more culturally informed measures that accurately represent the experiences of underrepresented minorities in psychology's training-to-workforce pipeline. A representative workforce via is integral to optimizing treatment outcomes for underserved communities long-term and, as such, necessitates more research into problematic points on representation constriction in the training-to-workforce pipeline.

The rise of the Austrian Freedom Party under Jörg Haider and Right Wing Populism in Austria 1986-2000. An historical and political study of Haider's FPO with a case-study giving a cultural perspective.

Murphy, Anthony J. January 2013 (has links)
The extraordinary political success achieved by the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ) under the leadership of Jörg Haider during the 1990s is widely known as the ¿Haider Phenomenon¿ in academic literature. This thesis is a cultural-historical investigation into the roots of Haider¿s political breakthrough in Austrian politics during the 1990s. My aim has been to try to understand this political phenomenon in the context of Austrian cultural and historical forces and set out the political developments that enabled Haider (almost) to achieve the Austrian Chancellorship in 2000. There is already a considerable amount of scholarship available on this subject ¿ particularly in German. This thesis aims to enrich this scholarship by uncovering some previously neglected cultural-historical aspects relating to the rise of Haider. During my research, I found a rich vein of sources pointing to the centrality of Kultur in any understanding of political-historical developments in 20th century Austria. This is certainly the case in regards to Haider¿s FPÖ, which actually initiated a Kulturkampf as part of their populist political strategy in the 1990s. This study will also add to the body of work about the growth of right wing populism throughout Europe in the last twenty years. More importantly however, my thesis highlights the importance of focusing on local and country-specific aspects of such a political phenomenon in order to explain the causes of its success. Otherwise, there is a danger of superficial or generalized conclusions being made that distract from a deeper comprehension of events.

A theoretical and experimental investigation of the annular jet ground effect machine

Graham, William Alexander January 1960 (has links)
In this work the infrared absorption of neutron irradiated silicon was compared to that of non-irradiated silicon at room and liquid nitrogen temperatures. It was found that instead of the 1.75 micron absorption band that has been mentioned in numerous papers transmission was completely cut off below about 2.5 microns at room temperature and about 1.8 microns at liquid nitrogen temperature. A weak absorption band was noted at 4.4 microns for all three samples at liquid nitrogen temperature and the two irradiated samples at room temperature. Absorption due to free carriers depressed at the longer wavelengths (10-15 microns) with irradiation and cooling as was expected from past experiments. The resistivity of Si₄ increased from an assumed initial value of 10³ ohm-om to 1.89 x 10⁵ ohm-om. / Master of Science

Idealismus mezi Leibnizem a Berkeleym / Idealism between Leibniz and Berkeley

Raboch, Filip January 2021 (has links)
While Berkeley's position on the materialism of the world is undoubtedly idealistic, Leibniz's position is somewhat problematic: in metaphysical texts, he seems to be an idealist, while in texts concerned with natural philosophy and physics, he seems more like a dualist similar to Aristotle. We will even see that Leibniz wants to be both an idealist/phenomenalist and a realist. Moreover, in his remarks to Berkeley, he criticizes Berkeley's idealism and his rejection of matter. The aim of this paper is to map Leibniz's idealistic position, compare it with Berkeley's, and decide whether Leibniz's objections to Berkeley are justified and whether their positions are any similar

New Perspectives of Quantum Analogues

Cai, Yue 01 January 2016 (has links)
In this dissertation we discuss three problems. We first show the classical q-Stirling numbers of the second kind can be expressed more compactly as a pair of statistics on a subset of restricted growth words. We extend this enumerative result via a decomposition of a new poset which we call the Stirling poset of the second kind. The Stirling poset of the second kind supports an algebraic complex and a basis for integer homology is determined. A parallel enumerative, poset theoretic and homological study for the q-Stirling numbers of the first kind is done. We also give a bijective argument showing the (q, t)-Stirling numbers of the first and second kind are orthogonal. In the second part we give combinatorial proofs of q-Stirling identities via restricted growth words. This includes new proofs of the generating function of q-Stirling numbers of the second kind, the q-Vandermonde convolution for Stirling numbers and the q-Frobenius identity. A poset theoretic proof of Carlitz’s identity is also included. In the last part we discuss a new expression for q-binomial coefficients based on the weighting of certain 01-permutations via a new bistatistic related to the major index. We also show that the bistatistics between the inversion number and major index are equidistributed. We generalize this idea to q-multinomial coefficients evaluated at negative q values. An instance of the cyclic sieving phenomenon related to flags of unitary spaces is also studied.

"Vi lurade stenen att flyta!" : En studie om hur förskolebarn tänker, resonerar och förklarar vardagliga fysikaliska fenomen. / "We tricked the stone to float" : A study of how preschool children thinks, reasoning and explain everyday physicals phenomenon´s.

Brubråten, Mina January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine how preschool children, 4-5 years, think, reason and explain an everyday physical phenomena. The phenomenon’s that was chosen for this study is the Archimedes principle and density. The study was conducted through qualitative semi-structured interviews that took place while the experiments were carried out by the children. This method was chosen to make it possible to follow the children´s reasoning about the subject of physics in preschool and to let them lead the conversation and let them explain the result. The result shows that children in the study have experience and knowledge about the phenomenon of why objects float or sink. Even if they don’t have knowledge of Archimedes´ principle or density, they can come up with their own conclusions of why objects float or sink, based on their past experiences and knowledge. Some of the children approach an explanation of these phenomena, without using the scientific concepts.
