No. of bitstreams: 1 000466516-Texto+Completo-0.pdf: 3482012 bytes, checksum: 54cfbb5b8db1506786f5332e5861052b (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015 / The present work has as objective to comprehend fans’ appropriations and reframing (Jenkins, Hills, Jenson) of the character Cthulhu, Howard Phillips Lovecraft’s creation, in the context of cyberculture (Lévy, Manovich, Castells, Santaella). Lovecraft, born in Providence, United States, lived between 1890 and 1937, and wrote short stories and poems on the fantastic genre of literature. His creations survived time, being modified and reinterpreted in different entertainment spheres and, in cyberculture, appropriated by fans in large scale around the world. By the analysis of posts and conversations in the page “Cthulhu”, on Facebook, it was objectified to comprehend who is the fans’ Cthulhu. In addition, it was aimed to investigate what would the differences be between these reframings and Lovecraft’s short story, “The Call of Cthulhu”, in a context where the new media and the Social Network Websites amplify and facilitate content’s production methods and its propagation among the fandom. The methodologies chosen were the documental analysis and the conversation analysis in social media, being done together and later on related with the theoretical approaches chosen. Through the research, the character, before a terrible and irrational monster, gained from the fans personality, human traits, merged with memes and transcended its purpose beyond the original short story – destroying humanity -, becoming a socializing creature.

LED照明產業之經營模式與發展策略-以Philips公司為例 / The business model and development strategy in LED lighting industry -taking Philips as a case study

Cho, Lee Ting Unknown Date (has links)
The application of LED (Light Emitting Diode) evolved from digital display and indicators to more utility devices close to daily life, such as indicator lamps, decorative lamps, traffic lights, stage lights, outdoor lights, and projection lights. The limit of current technology restricts LED from so-claimed full performance concerning global illumination, color rendering, and reliability so that it is less available in certain applications, especially in the market of traditional lightings. However, LED becomes popular in retail display, color lighting, illumination of a small space, exterior lighting, illumination of integrated building, entertainment lighting and stage lighting. In addition, the prosperity of Taiwan semi-conductor industry encourages the development of LED industry in Taiwan. The LED companies have developed into a complete industry chain in Taiwan and will play an important role in the global LED industry. Philips aggressively merged 9 LED companies between 2005 and 2009. These companies ranges from upstream to downstream of the LED industry chain, including LED chips manufacturer Lumileds, LED controller companies Color Kinetics, TIR System, Bodine, Dynalite, and LED module and system manufacturer PLI, Genlyte, Selecon. The strategy of Philips is to complete its LED product line through vertical merger and reorganization of these important LED companies, proclaiming its leading position in global LED industry. This thesis begins with an introduction about the latest development of LED lighting and the technology analysis on LED products of the main companies. Further, the thesis will take Philips as the case study to elaborate its business model in LED lighting, such as organization, investment, merger and acquisitions, joint venture, R&D, licensing and patent strategy. Through the analysis on Philips’ business model and strategy in LED industry, the research will propose some suggestions for Taiwan LED companies. Taiwan LED companies should increase their own R&D energy, strengthen their intellectual property and keep up with the updated status of international licensing events. They should also take Philips as an example to examine their own business strategy in case that they may be trapped between high Royalties or lawsuits to international enterprises, a dilemma which Taiwan LED die and package companies encountered.

Left atrial strain and 3-dimensional volume measurements of the left atrium : alternative methods for detecting diastolic dysfunction / Vänster förmaksstrain och 3D mätning av vänster förmaksvolym : alternativa metoder för att detektera diastolisk dysfunktion

Nilsson, Fanny January 2022 (has links)
Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction has its main pathophysiology in the diastolic dysfunction which is characterized by increased filling pressures. This can be discovered during a routinely performed echocardiographic examination. In 2016 the American Society of Echocardiography published a recommendation to simplify the assessment of diastolic dysfunction. Whether or not these recommendations have simplified the gradings is questionable. Left atrial strain has been shown to decrease in the absent of diastolic dysfunction and 3D echocardiographic volume measurements of the left atrium has been showing more accurate volumes of the heart compared to 2D-measurements. A quantitative study was therefore made to compare the results from the recommended algorithm with the two methods - left atrial strain and 3D-measurements of the left atrium volume. A total of 138 women and men were included with the data collected both prospective and retrospective. The aim with this quantitative study was to examine if LA-strain and 3D volume measurements of the left atrium can be useful parameters to use in detecting diastolic dysfunction in future recommendations. The result showed significant differences (p<0.05) in LA-strain between normal diastolic function and grade 2 and -3. Also, between grade 1 and grade 2- and 3. Between undetermined diastolic function there was a statistical difference with grade 2- and 3. LA-strain showed a significant negative correlation between E/é and 2D. LA-strain and 3D-measurements of the left atrium can be useful tools in the next recommendations of grading diastolic dysfunction.

Radziszewski, Robert January 2017 (has links)

Developing An Impact Evaluation Framework For Product Designers Inspired By The Capability Approach: A Case Study On The Philips Chulha

Van Der Marel, Floris 01 September 2012 (has links) (PDF)
Within the field of Product Design there is an increasing interest in designing with emerging markets. Considering how long people have already been concerned with increasing global living standards it is surprising how little has been achieved. This suggests our current methods are insufficient. The Capability Approach (CA) by Amartya Sen offers a new way of assessing inequality and poverty, focusing on what people have reason to value to be or do. Products can be means to achieve these beings and doings. An evaluation framework inspired by this philosophy was developed. The framework was tested in a case study. The sociological impact was evaluated of the Philips Chulha, a subsidized cooking stove implemented in tribal India. The impact in terms of the CA was identified and explained using Kleine&rsquo / s Choice Framework and Bourdieu&rsquo / s concept of habitus. The framework was successful in engaging into deep dialogues with the target users. The interpreter appeared to be highly influential on the way the study was executed. Since the research was conducted in one region, no firm statements could be made based on this single case study. The framework needs further testing and developing in order to increase the collaboration between the interviewer and the interviewee. Eventually product designers can use the improved evaluation framework as a prospective framework to uncover design opportunities for developmental purposes.
