Lysande rör, rörligt ideal : belysningsbranschens introducerande av lysröret i Sverige / Fluorescent lighting, lighting ideals : the Swedish lighting companies introduction of fluorescent lighting in Sweden

Eriksson, Jonas January 2012 (has links)
During the 1930´s the hot potato for the Swedish lighting associations were how to create the most suitable light for every situation, either for industries, offices or homes. The light bulb were the most frequently used source of light but due to limitied luminous intensity, big halls sometimes required up to hundreds of light bulbs to produce the right amount of light. Two kinds of different lights, by different reasons, can be titled the predecessors of the fluorescent lighting during the 1930´s: The volfram-filament tube light due to its estetic similarities and the electric discharge (mercury- and sodium-) lamps due to its technical resemblance. Even though they came in quite wide use (the volfram tube in public halls (e. g. cinemas and public baths) and the discharge lamp in the industry) none of them could provide a light that combined efficiency in both light and cost. This essay deals with the predecessors as well as the introduction of fluorescent lighting in Sweden 1940-1945 primarily as a consequence of todays non existing historic knowledge about this modernist invention. By analyzing articles and advertising issued by the Swedish journals Elektricitetens rationella användning and Tidskrift för Ljuskultur 1930-1945 this thesis answers questions about how, why, when and where the lamp industry came to bring the new kind of light on the market. The research concludes that fluorescent lighting was introduced in almost every environment except for the homes, even though the Swedish lighting associations believed it to be the future also for the homes. The prospects for the new light source were without exeption positive and promising and in both articles and advertising it was talked about as the ”artificial daylight”. The light fittings were made different depending on the purpose of the room. Esthetic as well as functional reasons together with the extracted shape of the lamp made the designers make fittings that differentiated heavily from the fluorescent light fittings we are used to see today.

A segunda parte traz a análise econométrica, onde é descrita a evolução do trade-off. / Faced with a nonconsensual discussion regarding the existence or not of a tradeoff between inflation and unemployment (Phillips curve), this dissertation examines the evolution of this relationship in the Brazilian economy during the period 1980-2010 using two different analysis: The first is considered a static analysis, performed with the use of a simple linear regression. The second is a dynamic analysis, where it is used a regression with time-varying coefficients, and the estimation of the coefficients is accomplished with the application of the Kalman filter. The econometric results show that the relationship between inflation and unemployment in fact changed over the period analyzed: The Phillips curve becomes horizontal after the Real Plan and is slightly positive after the Inflation Targeting Regime. Accordingly, this work is basically divided into two parts: The first consists of a brief review of the relationship between inflation and unemployment and the inflation targeting regime. The second part presents the econometric analysis, which describes the evolution of trade-off. Faced with the results, are presented their possible causes and is carried out a qualitative analysis of current monetary policy applied by the Central Bank of Brazil.

The Home-Office Lighting Kit

Mordeglia, Cristina January 2021 (has links)
This Master Thesis, inspired by the relevance that home-offices have assumed as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, originated from the architectural, quantitative, and qualitative analysis of lighting within the author’s student accommodation on KTH Main Campus, in Stockholm (Sweden). As a matter of fact, this background study proved that recommended lighting levels (Illuminance, Contrast Ratio, CCT, CRI, M-EDI, and DER values) were not met, making the space unsuitable and unhealthy to both live and work in. Moreover, evaluating individual lighting preferences, it was demonstrated that flexibility, customizability, and adaptability to daylighting and tasks are fundamental requirements for working from home.Considering the temporary nature of students’ leases, the idea of developing an inexpensive and easily assemblable kit of smart products, aimed at improving lighting in dormitories, came quite naturally. To study the implementation of visual comfort and focus on tasks, literature review, market analysis, quantitative measurements, and hands-on experiments were carried on.Thus, with the gained knowledge and experience, the Home-Office Lighting Kit, an array of commercially available sockets, shades, and smart sources, supporting circadian rhythm and individual preferences, was proposed. Along with it, instructions on set-up and scenarios were provided.Although the overall conclusion was that the market needs products with a better balance between price, sturdiness, and reliability, the lighting conditions within the case study space were substantially improved, making other students interested in doing the same.Eventually, interesting cues for the sector’s development were proposed.

Janin, Marc 28 April 2000 (has links) (PDF)

Vliv nově syntetizovaných léčiv na elektrickou aktivitu izolovaného srdce potkana / The effect of new synthetized drugs on electrical activity of rat isolated heart

Korčáková, Ivona January 2017 (has links)
This thesis deals with the influence of the newly synthesized drug on the electrical activity of the isolated heart of rat. Part of the thesis is a theoretical analysis of the use laboratory animals in experiments and ethical aspects related to the use of laboratory animals. There is also an analysis of drug testing, test substances, electrocardiography and methods used to detect and measure ECG signal. The two algorithms used for the QT interval are automated. The QT interval is the main indicator of cardiotoxicity and is considered to be the gold standard in evaluating the effect of the drug. In the practical part the ECG records obtained at the Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University in Brno are processed. These records are dimmed manually and automatically. The manual dimming was consulted with a specialist in cardiography and statistically processed. Statistical processing served to compare with the results of the automatic ECG measurement. The algorithm is used to automate the measurement, and the results are compared with the reference points obtained from cardiology experts and manual measurement results. This work serves as a pilot study for the development and testing of a new active substance.

Tradition. Passio. Poesis. Retreat: Comments around “The Gallery”

Lipson, Daniel B 01 January 2013 (has links)
Although Andrew Marvell wrote and published relatively little, his poetry collects from the full range of “schools” and idiosyncratic styles present in the seventeenth century: echoes of Herbert, Donne, Milton, Traherne, Herrick, Lovelace, and Jonson, among others, permeate throughout his work. Although much of his imagery seems novel, if not strange, it is clear that Marvell has a deep engagement with several important long-running traditions. His work is conversation with Ovid, Horace, and Theocritus as much as it responds directly to the poets whose lives overlapped with his own. In his engagement with such varied sources, Marvell demonstrates an astounding degree of poetic flexibility. He is a master of imitating voice and style.
