The Measurement of Some Aspects of Self Concept Related to Rehabilitation of the Physically HandicappedAshman, Sarah 01 January 1963 (has links)
"The emergence of rehabilitation as a social movement may be a significant contribution of the twentieth century to human development. Each step toward freeing human potentiality from the limitations of disability contributes to the dignity and growth of all mankind." (14:1) Through accident or disease. thousands each year are faced with the problems of physical disability. While the major concern in the rehabilitation of these people is the restoration or improvement of physical function. the social and psychological effects of disability are now being recognized as weighing heavily in the total adjustment to the problems of coping with life in normal society.

Groundwater impact assessment and protectionEliasson, Åse January 2001 (has links)

In the recent decades, therehave been frequent conflicts between groundwater waterresources and environmentally hazardous activities. Newmethodologies for aiding decision-making in groundwater impactassessment and protection areneeded and in which issues ofincreased awareness, better understanding of the groundwaterresources processes, and validation of predictive mathematicalmodels are addressed.

A framework fordecisionaid, based on predictive simulations that a)predicts the environmental impacts b) provides the totaleconomical value c) visualises the impacts and the groundwaterproperties and d) describes the uncertainties in the results isproposed herein. The framework can be applied in environmentalimpact assessments, strategic environmental assessments andprotection and management of water resources. The results ofthe model are used as feedback for determining new scenarios,depending on the required uncertainties, and if the plannedactivity is sustainable, and/or fulfils the legislative andpolicy measures. This framework is applied to a particular casestudy, Nybroåsen, in the south-eastern part of Sweden,where the highway E22 is constructed through the importantglaciofluvial esker aquifer, passing the protection zone of thewater supply for the Kalmar municipality.

The impacts from the new highwayand the existing road have been predicted by two-dimensionalphysically based time-variant flow and solute groundwatermodelling. The results, breakthrough curves of contaminantconcentration in wells and maps of concentration distributions,as well as travel times, flow paths, and capture zones forwells determined by particle tracking have been presented.

The constructed model of theNybroåsen study area was calibrated by comparing observedand simulated groundwater levels for 15 observation wells forten years of measurements. The model has been evaluated bothgraphically and numerically and the calibration target wasfulfilled for 13 of the 15 observation wells. The model workincludes investigations of the catchment information, a waterbalance study, simulation of the groundwater recharge,consideration of the unsaturated zone by a numerical columnsimulation, and sensitivity analysis.

From the sensitivity analysis ofthe flow and transport parameters, it has been shown that theuncertainties are mainly due to the hydraulic conductivity.Comparison of the derived conductivity from the steady-stateautomatic calibration and the time-variant calibration showedthat there are major differences in the derived parameters,which illustrates the importance of a time dependentcalibration over both wet and dry periods and in more than onepoint in the area of interest of the model predictions.

In addition, a multi-criteriadecision analysis has been carried out for four roadalternatives (including the new highway E22) and the existingroad in the case study concerned. The multi-criteria decisionaid is applied as an illustration of how it can be used in thestudy area to identify a) interest groups of actors and theirconcerns b) ranking of alternative road scenarios according toactorspreferences and c) coalition groups of actorsi.e.groups that have similar views with regard to theroad alternatives.

Keywords:Physically-based groundwater modelling,contamination, flow and solute transport, glaciofluvialdeposits, Nybroåsen, Sweden, and multi-criteriadecision-aid.

Nuteistųjų fizinis aktyvumas kaip sveikatos ekologijos dalis / Physical activity of prisoners as part of the health ecologyVaičiulis, Vidmantas 21 June 2010 (has links)
Tyrimo metodika.
Rezultatai. [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Aim of the study. Key factors impacting on the development of physically disabled athletes in Limpopo provinceSellschop, Ingrid 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MScMedSc)--University of Stellenbosch, 2009. / Thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of
Master of Medical Science. (rehabilitation) at the University of Stellenbosch / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: For physically disabled learners to achieve successful participation in sport requires the
synergistic interaction of many diverse factors. The Limpopo province of South Africa
produces fewer physically disabled athletes at the junior, senior and elite levels than any
other province in South Africa. This study identifies and examines the key aspects that
affected the development of physically disabled athletes in the Limpopo province in
2006/2007. Factors that both facilitate or inhibit the development of physically disabled
athletes in the province are identified and discussed. This highlights aspects that need to be
addressed in seeking to bridge the gap between current deficiencies and an optimised future
for participants in disabled sport in Limpopo province.
The study is descriptive, using a case-study design as part of a situational analysis. Physically
disabled athletes from one school were selected using a convenience sample and key
informants were selected through purposive sampling. Questionnaires were completed by ten
physically disabled athletes as well as by staff involved in their athletic development.
Interviews were also conducted among key informants from the sport and education sectors.
The questionnaires were analysed quantitatively and the interviews underwent qualitative
content analysis.
The findings indicated that there are seven critical areas/key factors influencing the
development of physically disabled athletes in Limpopo province. These are:
1. Support systems;
2. Sports participation;
3. Attitudinal facilitators and barriers;
4. Environmental accessibility;
5. Resources;
6. Education and training;
7. Politics.
The above elements impacting on the development of physically disabled athletes in Limpopo
province are compared with the five key areas of the International Paralympic Committee
(IPC) Development Model. It was found that numerous challenges exist in Limpopo, namely: a lack of sufficient humanresource
capacity, funding, sponsorships and the necessary financial resources for adequate
infrastructure sustainability and support services.
Therefore, in order for physically disabled athletes in Limpopo province to be successfully
developed within the framework of the IPC Development Model, the challenges and key
factors/critical areas identified by this study need to be addressed. The following
recommendations were made following the outcomes of the study:
1. Establish a discussion forum for all stakeholders;
2. Take steps to elevate the status of sport for physically disabled athletes in Limpopo
province;
3. Improve the co-operation between sports federations, government departments and
disabled people’s organisations Limpopo province;
4. Educate stakeholders;
5. Improve coaching expertise and knowledge;
6. Have specialist rehabilitation expertise in the LSEN schools;
7. Monitor and evaluate sports programmes.
omstandigheidsontleding. ’n Gerieflikheidsteekproef van fisiek-gestremde atlete is by een
skool gekies terwyl ’n versameling van sleutel inligtingsbronne doelgerig geïdentifiseer is.
Vraelyste is deur tien fisiek-gestremde atlete, sowel as personeellede betrokke by hulle
atletiese ontwikkeling, voltooi.
onderhoude kwalitatief geëvalueer is.
fisiek-gestremde atlete in hierdie provinsie beïnvloed:
1. Ondersteuningstelsels;
2. Sport deelname;
3. Omgewingstoeganglikheid;
4. Onderwys en opleiding;
5. Gesindhede en struikelblokke;
6. Bronne; en
7. Politiek.
1. Vestig ‘n gespreksforum vir alle belanghebbendes;
atlete in die Limpopo provinsie;
3. Verbeter die samewerking tussen Sportfederasies, Staatsdepartemente en
Organisasies vir Gestremde Persone in die Limpopo provinsie;
4. Lei alle belanghebbendes op;
5. Verbeter afrigtingskundigheid;

Background: HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a disease that affect the human immune system. Around 30–35 million people are living with HIV in the world. HIV affects people, both mentally and physically. Aim: To describe adults/adult patients experiences of living with HIV, focusing on mental and physical aspects, and to describe how the study group looks in the selected studies. Method: A descriptive literature study, based on 10 scientific articles with qualitative approach. The database that was used to find the articles was Cinahl. Main Results: The result of this literature study shows that people living with HIV daily feel emotions of fear, depression, anxiety and stress due to living with the disease. The emotions connect directly to experiences of stigmatization and discrimination within the healthcare and community. People living with HIV are often afraid how other people will react their disease. Physical symptoms like fatigue affect their everyday life negative, and the ability to live a normal life is prevented. The study group is clearly presented based on what the authors of the audited studies describes. Conclusion: HIV-positive people can be found in all healthcare facilities. Emotions of guilt and shame often occure with people who are living with HIV. As a nurse, the attitude towards people with HIV is very important.

Studies on a plant-based, high protein fruit beverageJanusz, Anna January 2016 (has links)
Introduction and Background Aventure AB has created a "between-meal beverage" with high protein and energy content aimed at older and/or physically active individuals. Aventure AB wished to transform this high energy drink to a plant-based product, because of the growing trend of plant-based diets. Aim The aim of this project was to replace the protein source in the beverage ”Skaka & smaka - strawberry taste”, while maintaining good flavour and texture. The original beverage contains whey protein, which was to be replaced with a vegetable source. Materials and methods A new plant-based beverage was developed from the original recipe. Four different alternative protein sources were added and evaluated with regard to taste, visual look, pH, dry matter, viscosity, brix, protein and energy content. To beverages based on different protein sources, four different juice concentrates were added in varying combinations and concentrations. Aromas were also added and a change of the fruit-purée recipe was made. The salt concentration was modified. The final product was evaluated through a consumer sensory analysis at a sports centre in Lund. The participants were asked to judge it by first impression, colour, odour, flavour, texture and overall impression on a 9-point hedonic scale. 76 individuals participated and compared the original beverage with the new plant-based one. Results and Discussion A beverage containing pea protein with a combination of a new fruit purée with a reduced amount of strawberries but an increased amount of bananas was selected as the most promising candidate. Further improvement of this beverage included addition of a juice concentrate mixture (6 mL/100 g), containing 50 % apple concentrate + 50 % lime concentrate. The salt content in the beverage was 0.03 g salt/100 g beverage. The sensory analysis revealed a significant difference regarding the first impression and flavour in favour of the original beverage, while a significant difference in colour appeared in favour of the new one containing pea protein. 19.6 % of the participating women, and 22.5 % of the men claimed that they would buy the new plant-based beverage. Conclusion A plant-based version of Skaka & smaka has been developed, and the sensory analysis indicates that the new product has potential on today's market. However, the beverage requires further development to satisfy all the needs within the target group.

As repercussões psicossociais do recebimento do benefício de prestação continuada na vida no trabalho de pessoas com deficiência física / The psychosocial effects of receiving a Brazilian social assistance benefit (benefit of continuous provision) for the work-life of people with physical disabilitiesSilva, Ana Idalina de Paiva 05 May 2011 (has links)
The work offers personal achievement, social recognition and the vita activa, allowing humans to change itself and the world. However, people with disabilities have small participation in the labor market, which has been linked to the receiving of the Benefit of Continuous Provision (Benefício de Prestação Continuada - BPC), a Brazilian social assistance benefit. BPC may discourage the participation of people with disabilities in the labor market because the benefit must be canceled immediately in the case of the beneficiary get a job. The BPC is fundamental to the support of its beneficiaries and their families, but it could be taking an ambiguous role: at the same time that it has supported these families, it has maintained them at social vulnerability by the distance from work of the beneficiaries. The aim of this research was to understand how the BPC and the disability could interfere in the way people with physical disabilities develop their social lives, using work activity to do this analysis, especially by the understanding of the meaning of work and the main ways of bond to the labor market and the work world. Three empirical categories were established: disabilities and disadvantages, work and people with disabilities, and BPC and its repercussions, which were analyzed by the theoretical framework of Pierre Bourdieu and Robert Castel. It was found that a majority of the participants has a habitus in which precarious and simplified jobs are predominant. The work was linked to the idea of suffering, dignity and supporting. It was found that there are people working in informality to increase income, others working without pay, and others that do not work. All of them avoiding get a regular job to keep the BPC. Acknowledging the low pay and the specificity of job opportunities provided by the class habitus, allied to the instability at the regular labor market and the importance of the benefit to the family financial maintenance, the respondents most opted to stay with the BPC in instead of getting a job. The benefit seems to act as an alternative to the need of undergoing to a simplified work by ensuring sustenance, offering free time to perform other activities. All these other activities of work, often unpaid, that seems to provide personal fulfillment, social recognition and vita activa, what was expected by a regular job. The disability, in spite of being source of prejudice for most of the interviewees, did not seem to have influenced the linking with the work, but at being recognized as diversity, this difference seems to offer the advantage of social protection through the BPC, reducing the social vulnerability and the social disadvantages, not only caused by the disability, but mainly by the class habitus, that is poor of social opportunities
