Auch eingefleischte LINUX-Nutzer bekommen mal eine eMail mit Wordanhang oder eine Coreldrawgrafik. Um Dokumente dieser Art anschauen zu können bleibt oft kein anderer Ausweg, als Windows zu booten. VMware bietet eine elegante Möglichkeit, mehrere Betriebssysteme auf einer Maschine gleichzeitig nutzen zu können. Natürlich sind dem Einsatz von VMware kaum Grenzen gesetzt.

Virtual platforms: System support to enrich the functionality of end client devices

Client devices operating at the edges on the Internet, in homes, cars, offices, and elsewhere, are highly heterogeneous in terms of their hardware configurations, form factors, and capabilities, ranging from small sensors to wearable and mobile devices, to the stationary ones like smart TVs and desktop machines. With recent and future advances in wireless networking allowing all such devices to interact with each other and with the cloud, it becomes possible to combine and augment capabilities of individual devices via services running at the edge - in edge clouds - and/or via services running in remote datacenters. The virtual platform approach to combining and enhancing such devices developed in this research makes possible the creation of innovative end user services, using low-latency communications with nearby devices to create for each end user exactly the platform needed for current tasks, guided by permissions and policies controlled by remote, cloud-resident social network services (SNS). To end users, virtual platforms operate beyond the limitations of individual devices, as natural extensions of those devices that offer improved functionality and performance, with ease-of-use provided by cloud-level global context and knowledge.

Η διπλωματική αυτή εργασία πραγματεύεται την προσομοίωση μιας ορθοπεδικής διάταξης οστεογένεσης, την τρισδιάστατη απεικόνιση αυτής από κατασκευαστικής άποψης καθώς και την πλήρη μελέτη της κίνησης αυτής με τον προγραμματισμό της ορθής και αντίστροφης κινηματικής. Πιο συγκεκριμένα η μελέτη που γίνεται αφορά το είδος πλατφόρμας Stewart και χρήση αυτής ως εξωτερικής συσκευής οστεογένεσης. Πρωτεύον μέλημά μας αποτελεί η περιγραφή του φαινομένου της οστεογένεσης και η κατανόηση της λειτουργίας και ανάπτυξης των οστών (Κεφάλαιο 2). Στη συνέχεια προβαίνουμε σε μια αναλυτική παρουσίαση των συσκευών οστεογένεσης που υπάρχουν στον χώρο με επιμέρους ανάλυση της λειτουργίας της κάθε μιας καταλήγοντας στην πλατφόρμα που θα μελετήσουμε (Κεφάλαιο 3). Ακολούθως, παρουσιάζουμε την κινηματική ανάλυση της πλατφόρμας Stewart τόσο την ορθή όσο και την ανάστροφη και επίσης γίνεται και μελέτη της δυναμικής ανάλυσης της διάταξης αυτής (Κεφάλαιο 4). Λαμβάνοντας υπόψη όλα τα προηγούμενα, είμαστε σε θέση να προχωρήσουμε στην προσομοίωση της πλατφόρμας Stewart , αρχίζοντας με τον προγραμματισμό των κινηματικών εξισώσεων, συνεχίζοντας με την προσομοίωση στο Simmechanics και τέλος δημιουργώντας την τρισδιάστατη απεικόνιση της διάταξης στο VRML toolbox του Matlab όπου φαίνεται η κίνηση της πλατφόρμας στον τρισδιάστατο χώρο (Κεφάλαιο 5). Τέλος, παρουσιάζονται τα συμπεράσματα και οι προοπτικές της εν λόγω εργασίας (Κεφάλαιο 6). / This thesis deals with the simulation of an orthopaedic device of osteogenesis, the 3d depiction concerning the constructional aspect as well as with the complete study of the movement with the planning of kinematics and inverse kinematics. More concretely the study concerns the category of a Stewart platform and the use of this platform as an exterior appliance for osteogenesis. Our first concern is the description of the phenomenon of osteogenesis and the comprehension of the operation and growth of bones (Chapter 2). Then we proceed in an analytic presentation of devices of osteogenesis that exist, with specific analysis of the operation of any kind that exists in the industrial field leading to the platform that we will study (Chapter 3). Following, we present the kinematical analysis of the Stewart platform as well as the study of the dynamic analysis of this fixator (Chapter 4). Taking into consideration all the above, we advance in the simulation of the Stewart platform, beginning with the planning of kinematical equations, continuing with the simulation in the Simmechanics and finally creating a 3d depiction of the device in the VRML toolbox of Matlab where we can watch the movement of the platform in the xyz space (Chapter 5). Finally, the conclusions and the prospects of this work are represented (Chapter 6).

Exploring the Community of University Indian Ruin

University Indian Ruin is a Classic Period Hohokam platform mound village located in the eastern Tucson Basin. Although portions of the site are well understand, the spatial and social community of the village has not been thoroughly documented. This report seeks to define the community of UIR through archival research, public outreach, and spatial analysis using geographic information systems. The result is a conception of a dynamic community with considerable time depth, which was reliant on certain environmental features, and one that also conforms to the phenomenon of pan-Southwestern abandonment and aggregation in late prehistory.

Social Differentiation in Animal Use and Subsistence: A Case Study of the Marana Platform Mound

The Marana Platform Mound Community (AZ AA:12:251[ASM]) in the Tucson Basin of southern Arizona provides a unique opportunity to examine the mechanisms of social organization within an early Classic Period Hohokam community. The role of the platform mound for integrative communal ritual or segregated elite-controlled activity is examined through faunal remains from the platform mound and nearby residential localities. Taxonomic diversity, relative abundance, and element distribution are used to measure the extent to which the platform mound served to integrate or distinguish site residents. Subtle differences in the diversity of taxa, the quantity of deposited faunal remains, and the quality of portions and taxa are indicative of differential access to resources between residents at the Platform Mound and residents in sites further away in the Tucson Basin. The findings support the current hypothesis that a dual mode of network and corporate strategy was used to organize the community.

Rail Platform Obstacle Detection Using LabVIEW Simulation

As the rapid development of the rail transportation industry, rail transportation becomes more popular as a component of urban public transport systems, but the fallen obstacle(s) from the rail platform becomes the terrible hidden danger for the rail transportation. As an enclosed public transport systems, rail transportation creates gathered crowd both on board and on the platform. Although railway is the safest form of land transportation, it is capable of producing lots of casualties, when there is an accident.There are several conventional systems of obstacles detection in platform monitoring systems like stereo visions, thermal scanning, and vision metric scanning, etc. As the traditional detection systems could not achieve the demand of detecting the obstacles on the rail within the platform. In this thesis, the author designs a system within the platform based on laser sensors, virtual instruments technology, and image processing technology (machine vision) to increase the efficiency of detection system. The system is useful for guarantying the safety of rail vehicle when coming into the platform and avoid obstacle(s) on the rail fallen from the platform, having a positive impact on traffic safety to protect lives of people.The author used LabVIEW software to create a simulation environment where the input blocks represent the functionalities of the system, in which simulated train detection and fallen object detection. In this thesis, the author mainly focuses on fallen object detection. For fallen object detection, the author used 2D image processing method to detect obstacle(s), so the function is, before the rail vehicle comes into the platform, the system could detect whether there is fallen obstacle(s) on the rail within the platform, simultaneously categorize size of the obstacle(s), and then alarm for delivering the results.

Open Platform Semi-Passive Ultra High Frenquency Radio Frequency Identi

Radio frequency identi cation (RFID) is a rapidly emerging technology that enables au- tomatic remote identi cation of objects. Passive and semi-passive RFID systems can be distinguished from other forms of wireless systems, because the RFID tags (transponders) communicate by way of backscatter. In addition, passive tags derive their energy from the RF energy emitted by the reader. RFID technology can provide a fully automated data capture and analysis system. Compared to a passive RFID system, an open platform semi-passive UHF RFID tag can provide identi cation, security, low-power (compared to a wireless sensor net- work(WSN)), medium range and medium processing speed. However, the eld of semi- passive RFID is still under development, and has yet there are no open development platforms available. This thesis develops a prototype of a semi-passive UHF RFID tag that is compatible with the leading UHF RFID standard EPCglobal Gen 2 Class 1. I alsot has the exible I2C and analog digital converter(ADC) interface, which allows the additional of external analog and digital sensors. The sensor data can be read by microcontroller and stored at memory. Standard reader can get sensor data by sending QUERY and READ command to tag. Test results of our open platform semi-passive UHF RFID tag demonstrated that it can achieve a read rate above 50% when an open platform semi-passive UHF RFID tag is placed four meters from the reader antenna and the reader output power is set to 21 dBm. In addition, the proposed semi-passive open platform RFID tag consumes very little power (4.9 mA in 2V with system frequency set to 8MHz).
