Face à la croissance exponentielle des réseaux mobiles très haut débit, les opérateurs de téléphonie mobile se sont lancé dans le déploiement des réseaux dits hiérarchiques (HetNet), composés par des sous-réseaux avec des caractéristiques divergentes en termes de type des cellules déployées et des technologies d’accès radio utilisées. Avec ce caractère hétérogène des réseaux cellulaire, l’exploitation de ces derniers devienne de plus en plus compliquée et coûteuse impliquant le déploiement, la configuration et la reconfiguration de stations de base et d’équipements de différentes caractéristiques. Ainsi, l’intégration dans les réseaux HetNet de fonctionnalités d’auto-configuration automatisant et simplifiant l’exploitation des réseaux deviennent une demande forte des opérateurs. Cette thèse a pour objectif l’étude et le développement de solutions de gestion dynamique de l’équilibrage de charges entre les différentes couches composant un même HetNet, pour une expérience utilisateur (QoE) améliorée. Dans ce contexte, une classe des algorithmes d’équilibrage de charges dite ‘équilibrage de charges par adaptation dynamique des paramètres de la procédure de handover’ est étudiée. Pour commencer, nous développons un modèle théorique basé sur des solutions et des outils de la géométrie stochastique et incorporant le caractère hétérogène des réseaux cellulaires. Ensuite nous exploitons ce modèle pour introduire des algorithmes d’adaptation des paramètres de handover basés sur la maximisation de la puissance reçue et du rapport signal/brouillage plus bruit (SINR). Nous exploitons ces résultats pour implémenter et étudier, par simulation à évènements discrets, des algorithmes d’équilibrage de charges dans le contexte des réseaux LTE HetNet auto-organisés basés sur les spécifications 3GPP. Ces travaux soulignent l’importance de l’équilibrage de charges afin de booster les performances des réseaux cellulaires en termes de débit global transmis, perte de paquets de données et utilisation optimisée des ressources radio. / High demands on mobile networks provide a fresh opportunity to migrate towardsmulti-tier deployments, denoted as heterogeneous network (HetNet), involving a mix of cell types and radio access technologies working together seamlessly. In this context, network optimisation functionalities such as load balancing have to be properly engineered so that HetNet benefit are fully exploited. This dissertation aims to develop tractable frameworks to model and analyze load balancing dynamics while incorporating the heterogeneous nature of cellular networks. In this context we investigate and analyze a class of load balancingstrategies, namely adaptive handover based load balancing strategies. These latter were firstly studied under the general heading of stochastic networks using independent and homogeneous Poisson point processes based network model. We propose a baseline model to characterize rate coverage and handover signalling in K-tier HetNet with a general maximum power based cell association and adaptive handover strategies. Tiers differ in terms of deployment density and cells characteristics (i.e. transmit power, bandwidth, and path loss exponent). One of the main outcomes is demonstrating the impact of offloading traffic from macro- to small-tier. This impact was studied in terms of rate coverage and HO signalling. Results show that enhancement in rate coverage is penalized by HO signalling overhead. Then appropriate algorithms of LB based adaptive HO are designed and their performance is evaluated by means of extensive system level simulations. These latter are conducted in 3GPP defined scenarios, including representation of mobility procedures in both connectedstate. Simulation results show that the proposed LB algorithms ensure performance enhancement in terms of network throughput, packet loss ratio, fairness and HO signalling.

Afin de garantir un MANET totalement connecté, nous proposons un outil analytique permettant d´estimer les rayons de couverture requis. Ensuite, nous étudions les communications multi-sauts et nous proposons plusieurs protocoles de routage pour améliorer les délais de communications. Puis, nous nous focalisons sur la contribution du réseau satellite en menant une étude comparative qualifiant les besoins en stations hybrides "HS" ainsi qu’une stratégie d´accès à ces passerelles satellite. Dans un deuxième temps, nous traitons l’ occurrence du dépassement des ressources radio et le dimensionnement de ces dernières de façon à optimiser la bande passante allouée au réseau. Nous dérivons un modèle analytique en utilisant des résultats issus de la géométrie aléatoire, permettant de prévoir la quantité de ressources radio requises par les noeuds actifs sous une certaine qualité de service "QoS" et plusieurs configurations d´antennes MIMO. Nous considérons tout d´abord un système d´accès centralisé où toutes les communications sont effectuées par l’ intermédiaire des noeuds chargés de la gestion des ressources radio. Ensuite, nous traitons le cas d´un système d´accès distribué sous le protocole d´accès Aloha où les nœuds sont autorisés à accéder à la bande passante partagée aléatoirement et uniformément. Les simulations et les résultats numériques permettent d´évaluer les performances en termes de bande passante requise, de capacité globale et de rayons de couverture. / In the first part of this thesis, we tackle the initialization of the network in this hierarchical context. We propose a statistical model enabling a network designer to perceive the requirements in terms of equipments, channel bandwidth, antenna configurations, antenna radiation pattern, achievable data rates for instance. In order to guarantee fully connected MANET, we introduce an analytical tool to estimate the required inter-staff-ships and inter-shipmasters coverage radii. Then we study the multi-hop end-to-end communications and we propose several routing protocols to enhance the delays. Afterwards, we focus on the contribution of the satellite backhaul with a comparative study qualifying the needs in Hybrid Stations “HSs” and a strategy to access to these gateways. In a second part, we emphasis on the radio resource outage occurrence and the dimensioning matter to optimize the allocated bandwidth to the network. We investigate stochastic geometry tools to provide an analytical model enabling to foresee the amount of required radio resources by the active nodes with a certain Quality of Service “QoS” and several Multiple Inputs Multiple Outputs “MIMO” antenna configurations in the maritime context. We consider first the centralized access scheme where all communications are performed via the shipmasters that are in charge of the radio resource management. Then we focus on the distributed access scheme with Aloha Medium Access Control “MAC” protocol where nodes are authorized to access to the shared bandwidth arbitrarily and unilaterally. Simulation and numerical results are provided to evaluate the performances in terms of required bandwidth, aggregate capacity.

Charging behaviour of the amine moiety at the air-water interface. A vibrational sum frequency study / Amingruppens laddningsbeteende vid ytgränsskiktet mellan vatten och luft. En vibrationssumfrekvensstudieGullstrand, Mikael January 2021 (has links)
Laddningsbeteendet hos amingruppen vid ytgränsskiktet mellan vatten och luft har studerats under ändring av vattenfasens pH och NaCl-koncentration via den ickelinjära laserspektroskopiska tekniken, vibrationssumfrekvensspektroskopi (VSFS). Modellen som användes för ytan bestod av ett Langmuirmonolager av 1-docosanamin, en icke-löslig fettkedjeamin med NH2-gruppen riktad mot vattenfasen. En av de huvudsakliga syftena med projektet var att bestämma det skenbara samt yt-pKa:t för amingruppen, såväl som att testa gränserna för de klassiska Poisson-Boltzmann-formuleringarna av teorin för det elektriska dubbellagret. Molekylär information av laddningsbeteendet hos aminen erhölls från VSFS-spektra genom att följa NH-, OH- och CH-sträckningsvibrationsmoderna. Specifikt så identifierades de spektrala dragen från den neutrala formen (R-NH2) och den laddade formen (R-NH3+) av aminen, vilka direkt korrelerades med monolagrets ytladdning. Intensiteten hos OH-banden från vattenmolekylerna i det diffusa dubbellagret kunde länkas till ytpotentialen och CH-vibrationerna från alkylkedjan av amino-tensiden kopplades slutligen till packningstätheten hos monolagret. Ytterligare experiment utfördes med en deutererad vattenfas (D2O) för att bekräfta sträckningsvibrationsmoderna hos NH3+, vilka aldrig tidigare har rapporterats. Resultaten visar på att fettkedjeaminen får ett avsevärt lägre yt- och skenbart pKa jämfört med bulken (∼ 4 jämfört med 10,5). Detta är i enlighet med vad Gouy-Chapmann-modellen av det elektriska dubbellagret förutser. Dessutom så indikerar datat att det inneboende pKa:t hos aminen också blir lägre vid ytan än för bulken (9,7±0,7 jämfört med 10,5), vilket kan beskrivas som en effekt av begränsningen i frihetsgrader hos den ytbundna aminen. Dock, så hindrades en mer utförlig kvantitativ jämförelse mot teorin av ett sämre val av det experimentella referensvärdet som användes för att jämföra data mellan olika dagar. Dessutom så var anpassningsrutinen för datat begränsad på grund av spektrala vibrationsöverlapp mellan de relativt svaga aminbanden och de mycket starkare vatten- och alkylsträckningssignalerna. Intressant nog, för högre pH-värden, då aminen är helt oladdad, bevisade sumfrekvensspektra att hydroxidjonen föredrar att adsorbera till ytan genom att monolagret fick en negativ nettoladdning. Överlag så förbättrar studierna som presenteras i denna master-projektuppsats vår molekylära förståelse kring hur den biofysiskt betydande amingruppen beter sig vid ytgränsskikt. / The charging behaviour of the amine moiety at the water-air interface upon changes in the aqueous subphase pH and NaCl concentration has been studied using the non-linear laser spectroscopy technique, Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy (VSFS). The model surface consisted of a Langmuir monolayer of 1-docosaneamine, an insoluble fatty amine that exposes its NH2 group to solution. One of the main purposes of the project is to determine the surface, and the apparent pKa of the amine moiety, as well as testing the limits of validity of classical formulations of the electrical double layer theory within the Poisson-Boltzmann formalism. Molecular information of the charging behaviour was obtained from the VSFS spectra by targeting the NH, OH and CH stretching modes. Specifically, spectral features from the neutral amine (i.e. R-NH2) and charged (R-NH3+) groups could be identified and directly correlated to the surface charge of the monolayer. The intensity of the OH bands from water molecules in the diffuse double layer, were linked to the surface potential, and finally, the CH modes from the surfactant alkyl chain gave information of the packing density in the monolayer. Additional experiments were also carried out in D2O to help confirm the assignment of the NH3+ stretching modes that had not been previously reported. The results show that as predicted from the Gouy-Chapman electric double layer model, the apparent pKa of the fatty amine monolayer is significantly lower than in the bulk (∼ 4 compared with 10.5) . However, the data show indication that the intrinsic pKa at the surface is also lower than in the bulk (9.7+/- 0.7, compared to 10.5), an effect that is ascribed to the 2D molecular confinement in the monolayer. A more quantitative comparison with the theoretical predictions was nonetheless hampered by a poor selection of the experimental reference for comparing data collected in different days, and the limitations in the fitting routines due spectral overlap of the relatively weak amine bands with the OH and CH stretching modes. Interestingly, at high pH when the fatty amine is fully uncharged, the sum frequency spectra show evidence that OH- ion preferentially adsorbed to the surface, making it effectively net negatively charged. Overall, the studies presented in this master thesis, improve our molecular understanding of the behaviour of the biophysically relevant amine-functionality at interfaces.

The Impact of Weather on Residential Fires in Sweden: A Regression Analysis / Väders Inverkan på Bostadsbränder i Sverige: En RegressionsanalysReineck, Viktor, Ulfsparre, Folke January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this report is to investigate possible relationships between the number of residential fires in Sweden and various weather parameters. The study is conducted based on a hypothesis as stated by the MSB, the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, that behavioral factors related to weather can have an influence on the number of residential fires. Generalized linear models within the regression analysis have been used and specifically Poisson and negative binomial regression. The aim was to map the possible connection and determine if it was possible to use the analysis as a tool to improve the emergency services in Sweden. Temperature, short term differences in temperature and precipitation were analyzed with residential fires as the dependent variable, which resulted in a model for each municipality in Sweden. The relationships between the weather parameters and residential fires, seen throughout Sweden, proved to be weak to non-existent with one exception. The average temperature variable was significant in 117 out of 290 municipalities and indicated a relationship where the expected number of residential fires decreases at temperature increases. Due to the weak relationships, the model is not recommended as a prognostic tool on a national level. However, individual models could be used as a supplement to current prognostic tools at a local level and used for preventive purposes. Thus, the study has concluded that weather has some impact on the expected number of residential fires and thus has the potential to be used as a tool when forecasting residential fires. As an addition to the regression analysis, an organizational analysis of the emergency services in Sweden is carried out. The analysis sought the optimal structure based on the emergency services conditions and requirements, which were defined on the basis of organizational concepts and methods. The result was a more structured operation and organization where methods and processes are managed at a centralized level. / Syftet med denna rapport är att undersöka eventuella samband mellan antalet bostadsbränder i Sverige och olika väderparametrar. Studien genomförts mot bakgrund av en hypotes ställd av MSB, Myndigheten för Samhällsskydd och Beredskap, om att beteendefaktorer relaterade till vädret kan ha en påverkan på antalet bostadsbränder. Generaliserade linjära modeller inom regressionsanalysen har använts och specifikt Poisson- och negativ binomialregression. Målet var att kartlägga det eventuella sambandet och avgöra huruvida det var möjligt att nyttja analysen som verktyg för att förbättra räddningstjänsten i Sverige. Temperatur, kortsiktig temperaturförändring och nederbörd analyserades med bostadsbränder som den beroende variabeln, vilket resulterade i en modell för varje svensk kommun. Sambanden mellan väderparametrarna och bostadsbränder, sett över hela Sverige, visade sig vara svaga till obefintliga med ett undantag. Variabeln för genomsnittstemperatur var signifikant i 117 av 290 kommuner och visade på ett samband där förväntat antal bostadsbränder minskar vid ökad temperatur. På grund av de svaga sambanden, sett över hela Sverige, rekommenderas inte modellen som prognostiskt verktyg på nationell nivå. Däremot skulle enskilda modeller kunna användas som komplement till nuvarande prognostiska verktyg på lokal nivå, samt användas i förebyggande syfte. Därmed har studien kommit fram till att väder har viss påverkan på det förväntade antalet bostadsbränder och således har potential att användas som verktyg vid prognos av bostadsbränder. Som ett komplement till regressionsanalysen genomförs en organisatorisk analys av räddningstjänsten i Sverige. Analysen sökte den optimala strukturen utifrån räddningstjänstens förutsättningar och krav, som definierades utifrån grundläggande organisatoriska begrepp och metoder. Resultatet blev en mer strukturerad verksamhet där metoder och processer sköts på en centraliserad nivå.

Vibrational sum frequency spectroscopy har använts för att studera interaktionerna mellan monovalenta joner och laddade fettsyramonolager. Subfasen bestod av utvalda alkalihydroxidsaltlösningar med pH12, med huvudfokus på cesiumjonen. Molekylär information erhölls genom att rikta in sig på vibrationerna hos karboxylsyragruppen, alkylkedjor, och vattenmolekyler i kontakt med monolagret, samt i det diffusa dubbellagret. Ytans laddning uppskattades genom att observera sträckningsvibrationerna hos hydratiserade karboxylat och protonerade karboxylsyror. Ytans potential beräknades utifrån signalresponsen hos vattenmolekylerna i det diffusa dubbellagret. Beteendet hos ytans laddning och potential överensstämmer väl med Gouy-Chapman-teorin för stora områden per molekyl, men avviker avsevärt vid kompression av monolagret. Vid små områden per molekyl, eller hög laddningsdensitet, stämmer resultaten bättre överens med en storleksmodifierad version av Poisson-Boltzmann-teorin. Resultaten från experiment med en cesiumhydroxidsubfas jämfördes med motsvarande experiment med natrium och litium, vilket beskriver cesiumjonen i relation till de andra alkalijonerna vad gäller jonspecifika effekter. Resultaten som har samlats in här ger insikt i hur effektiv jonstorlek kan användas för att modellera och förutsäga jonspecifika effekter med karboxylsyragruppen i ett Langmuir-monolager. / Vibrational sum frequency spectroscopy has been used to study the interactions of monovalent ions with highly charged fatty acid monolayers. The subphase consisted of selected alkali hydroxide salt solutions of pH 12, primarily focusing on the cesium ion. Molecular information was obtained by targeting the vibrational modes of the carboxylic acid headgroups, alkyl chains, and water molecules in the immediate surface and diffuse double layers. The surface charge was estimated by monitoring the stretching modes of the hydrated carboxylate and protonated carboxylic acid. The surface potential was estimated from the signal response of the water molecules in the diffuse double layer. The behaviour of the surface charge and surface potential agrees well with Gouy-Chapman theory for large areas per molecule, but deviates significantly upon monolayer compression. At small areas per molecule or high surface charge density, the results better align with a size-modified version of the Poisson-Boltzmann theory. The results obtained with a cesium hydroxide subphase were compared to equivalent experiments with sodium and lithium, which puts the cesium ion into context with the other alkali ions in terms ion specific effects. The results collected here provide insight into how effective ion size can be used in modelling and predicting ion specific effects with the carboxylic acid moiety in a Langmuir monolayer.

Cancer is a highly prevalent disease worldwide, claiming hundreds of lives each year. In the field of cancer research, it is customary to conduct surveys in which patients are asked to self-report and assess their symptoms and overall health. In such research, it is essential for patients to respond promptly to questionnaires to avoid recall bias and for a representative patient sample to respond to avoid biased sampling. This report aims to investigate the factors that impact response rate and response time using logistic regression and Poisson regression. The study focuses on a dataset of patients with colorectal cancer, with the response rate of patients with pancreatic cancer serving as a reference. By analyzing variables such as gender, age, place of residence, and the method of survey notification, the conclusion is that patients over the age of 80 who received their survey login codes on paper are the least responsive and underrepresented subgroup of the sample. In the analysis of the response time using Poisson regression, the conclusion is that the notification channel has the most significant impact on response rate. / Cancer är en mycket utbredd sjukdom världen över och kräver hundratals liv varje år. Inom cancerforskningen är det vanligt att genomföra undersökningar där patienter ombeds att självrapportera och bedöma sina symtom och övergripande hälsa. I sådana undersökningar är det avgörande att patienterna svarar snabbt på enkäter för att undvika minnesbias och för att få fram en representativ patientgrupp och undvika snedvriden urvalsprocess. Syftet med denna rapport är att undersöka faktorer som påverkar svarsfrekvensen och svarstiden genom att använda logistisk regression och Poisson-regression. Studien fokuserar på en dataset av patienter med tjocktarmscancer, där svarsfrekvensen hos patienter med bukspottkörtelcancer används som referens. Genom att analysera variabler som kön, ålder, bostadsort och metod för undersökningsmeddelande dras slutsatsen att patienter över 80 år som fick sina inloggningskoder på papper är den minst responsiva och mest underrepresenterade undergruppen av urvalet. I analysen av svarstiden med hjälp av Poisson-regression dras slutsatsen att undersökningskanalen har den största påverkan på svarsfrekvensen.

Stochastic Geometry for Vehicular NetworksChetlur Ravi, Vishnu Vardhan 11 September 2020 (has links)
Vehicular communication networks are essential to the development of intelligent navigation systems and improvement of road safety. Unlike most terrestrial networks of today, vehicular networks are characterized by stringent reliability and latency requirements. In order to design efficient networks to meet these requirements, it is important to understand the system-level performance of vehicular networks. Stochastic geometry has recently emerged as a powerful tool for the modeling and analysis of wireless communication networks. However, the canonical spatial models such as the 2D Poisson point process (PPP) does not capture the peculiar spatial layout of vehicular networks, where the locations of vehicular nodes are restricted to roadways. Motivated by this, we consider a doubly stochastic spatial model that captures the spatial coupling between the vehicular nodes and the roads and analyze the performance of vehicular communication networks. We model the spatial layout of roads by a Poisson line process (PLP) and the locations of nodes on each line (road) by a 1D PPP, thereby forming a Cox process driven by a PLP or Poisson line Cox process (PLCP). In this dissertation, we develop the theory of the PLCP and apply it to study key performance metrics such as coverage probability and rate coverage for vehicular networks under different scenarios.
First, we compute the signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (SINR)-based success probability of the typical communication link in a vehicular ad hoc network (VANET). Using this result, we also compute the area spectral efficiency (ASE) of the network. Our results show that the optimum transmission probability that maximizes the ASE of the network obtained for the Cox process differs significantly from that of the conventional 1D and 2D PPP models.
Second, we calculate the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR)-based downlink coverage probability of the typical receiver in a vehicular network for the cellular network model in which each receiver node connects to its closest transmitting node in the network. The conditioning on the serving node imposes constraints on the spatial configuration of interfering nodes and also the underlying distribution of lines. We carefully handle these constraints using various fundamental distance properties of the PLCP and derive the exact expression for the coverage probability.
Third, building further on the above mentioned works, we consider a more complex cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) communication network in which the vehicular nodes are served by roadside units (RSUs) as well as cellular macro base stations (MBSs). For this setup, we present the downlink coverage analysis of the typical receiver in the presence of shadowing effects. We address the technical challenges induced by the inclusion of shadowing effects by leveraging the asymptotic behavior of the Cox process. These results help us gain useful insights into the behavior of the networks as a function of key network parameters, such as the densities of the nodes and selection bias.
Fourth, we characterize the load on the MBSs due to vehicular users, which is defined as the number of vehicular nodes that are served by the MBS. Since the limited network resources are shared by multiple users in the network, the load distribution is a key indicator of the demand of network resources. We first compute the distribution of the load on MBSs due to vehicular users in a single-tier vehicular network. Building on this, we characterize the load on both MBSs and RSUs in a heterogeneous C-V2X network. Using these results, we also compute the rate coverage of the typical receiver in the network.
Fifth and last, we explore the applications of the PLCP that extend beyond vehicular communications. We derive the exact distribution of the shortest path distance between the typical point and its nearest neighbor in the sense of path distance in a Manhattan Poisson line Cox process (MPLCP), which is a special variant of the PLCP. The analytical framework developed in this work allows us to answer several important questions pertaining to transportation networks, urban planning, and personnel deployment. / Doctor of Philosophy / Vehicular communication networks are essential to the development of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and improving road safety. As the in-vehicle sensors can assess only their immediate environment, vehicular nodes exchange information about critical events, such as accidents and sudden braking, with other vehicles, pedestrians, roadside infrastructure, and cellular base stations in order to make critical decisions in a timely manner. Considering the time-sensitive nature of this information, it is of paramount importance to design efficient communication networks that can support the exchange of this information with reliable and high-speed wireless links. Typically, prior to actual deployment, any design of a wireless network is subject to extensive analysis under various operational scenarios using computer simulations. However, it is not viable to rely entirely on simulations for the system design of highly complex systems, such as the vehicular networks. Hence, it is necessary to develop analytical methods that can complement simulators and also serve as a benchmark. One of the approaches that has gained popularity in the recent years for the modeling and analysis of large-scale wireless networks is the use of tools from stochastic geometry. In this approach, we endow the locations of wireless nodes with some distribution and analyze various aspects of the network by leveraging the properties of the distribution.
Traditionally, wireless networks have been studied using simple spatial models in which the wireless nodes can lie anywhere on the domain of interest (often a 1D or a 2D plane). However, vehicular networks have a unique spatial geometry because the locations of vehicular nodes are restricted to roadways. Therefore, in order to model the locations of vehicular nodes in the network, we have to first model the underlying road systems. Further, we should also consider the randomness in the locations of vehicles on each road. So, we consider a doubly stochastic model called Poisson line Cox process (PLCP), in which the spatial layout of roads are modeled by random lines and the locations of vehicles on the roads are modeled by random set of points on these lines.
As is usually the case in wireless networks, multiple vehicular nodes and roadside units (RSUs) operate at the same frequency due to the limited availability of radio frequency spectrum, which causes interference. Therefore, any receiver in the network obtains a signal that is a mixture of the desired signal from the intended transmitter and the interfering signals from the other transmitters. The ratio of the power of desired signal to the aggregate power of the interfering signals, which is called as the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR), depends on the locations of the transmitters with respect to the receiver. A receiver in the network is said to be in coverage if the SIR measured at the location of the receiver exceeds the required threshold to successfully decode the message. The probability of occurrence of this event is referred to as the coverage probability and it is one of the fundamental metrics that is used to characterize the performance of a wireless network. In our work, we have analytically characterized the coverage probability of the typical vehicular node in the network. This was the first work to present the coverage analysis of a vehicular network using the aforementioned doubly stochastic model. In addition to coverage probability, we have also explored other performance metrics such as data rate, which is the number of bits that can be successfully communicated per unit time, and spectral efficiency. Our analysis has revealed interesting trends in the coverage probability as a function of key system parameters such as the density of roads in a region (total length of roads per unit area), and the density of vehicles on the roads. We have shown that the vehicular nodes in areas with high density of roads have lower coverage than those in areas with sparsely distributed roads. On the other hand, the coverage probability of a vehicular node improves as the density of vehicles on the roads increases. Such insights are quite useful in the design and deployment of network infrastructure.
While our research was primarily focused on communication networks, the utility of the spatial models considered in these works extends to other areas of engineering. For a special variant of the PLCP, we have derived the distribution of the shortest path distance between an arbitrary point and its nearest neighbor in the sense of path distance. The analytical framework developed in this work allows us to answer several important questions pertaining to infrastructure planning and personnel deployment.

Ce mémoire présente les travaux de maîtrise vérifiant les effets de l'ajout d'un supplément de gélatine de poisson à un supplément d'AGPI n-3 sur l'apport énergétique et le poids corporel ainsi que sur le profil lipidique et les marqueurs inflammatoire et du risque cardiovasculaire chez des sujets résistants à l'insuline. Suivant un dispositif d'expérience en chassé-croisé, 16 sujets ont été soumis à deux périodes expérimentales de huit semaines (AGPI n-3 seul et AGPI n-3+ un supplément de gélatine de poisson). Les résultats de cette étude ont montré que l'administration d'un supplément de gélatine de poisson provoque une diminution de l'apport en glucides sans modification de l'apport énergétique total et du poids corporel chez les hommes et les femmes. Ce même supplément de gélatine de poisson potentialise également les effets réducteurs d'un supplément d'AGPI n-3 sur les TG plasmatiques chez les femmes, mais non chez les hommes, montrant que l'effet de la supplementation en gélatine est dépendant du sexe.

The impact of misspecification of nuisance parameters on test for homogeneity in zero-inflated Poisson model: a simulation studyGao, Siyu January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Statistics / Wei-Wen Hsu / The zero-inflated Poisson (ZIP) model consists of a Poisson model and a degenerate distribution at zero. Under this model, zero counts are generated from two sources, representing a heterogeneity in the population. In practice, it is often interested to evaluate this heterogeneity is consistent with the observed data or not. Most of the existing methodologies to examine this heterogeneity are often assuming that the Poisson mean is a function of nuisance parameters which are simply the coefficients associated with covariates. However, these nuisance parameters can be misspecified when performing these methodologies. As a result, the validity and the power of the test may be affected. Such impact of misspecification has not been discussed in the literature. This report primarily focuses on investigating the impact of misspecification on the performance of score test for homogeneity in ZIP models. Through an intensive simulation study, we find that: 1) under misspecification, the limiting distribution of the score test statistic under the null no longer follows a chi-squared distribution. A parametric bootstrap methodology is suggested to use to find the true null limiting distribution of the score test statistic; 2) the power of the test decreases as the number of covariates in the Poisson mean increases. The test with a constant Poisson mean has the highest power, even compared to the test with a well-specified mean. At last, simulation results are applied to the Wuhan Inpatient Care Insurance data which contain excess zeros.
