Policijos pareigūnų bendrųjų profesinių gebėjimų lavinimo ypatumai / Peculiarities of general professional competence building for police officersVaičiulis, Arūnas 24 September 2008 (has links)
[toliau žr. visą tekstą] / For the person, who has chosen a policeman craftsociety enhance very high requirements. / This work intends to analyze the presence and the popular experiences, mainly of the black individuals, in the police institutions of Porto Alegre in the final years of century XIX, moment in which the police gains importance like mechanism of social and urban control. In order to analyze this presence, we use the Santa Casa Sickness Books that bring the color reference of the individuals in their registers, even after 1888, thus allowing the elaboration of a "profile" of these policemen. Also discussed are the labor valorization discourses present in the newspaper A Federação, as well as the practical measures adopted by the government, of control and repression of vagrancy and idleness, through the column of "police occurrences" presented in the journal. I intend to understand, through a social history of work, what meanings have been the engagement of black individuals in the police service, considering this activity as an integral part of the urban work worlds, and how this uniformed work dialogued with the perspectives of these individuals, refers to the expectations of social ascension, obtaining of prestige / honor, in addition to its relations with the other sectors of the society, as women, immigrants and other popular white and black.

State Police in a State of Change: Remaking the Entrepreneurial OfficerPalmer, Darren, n/a January 2005 (has links)
We are currently at a point in time in Australia where questions concerning how to govern police have never been more pressing or more fluid. Systemic corruption has been identified in several states; a range of new accountability mechanisms have been established internal and external to police and in Victoria police corruption has been linked with a violent 'gangland war'. This thesis locates these contemporary developments within a broader analysis of the historical circumstances shaping the changing techniques for governing state police. More specifically, this thesis engages in a detailed comparative study of the changing techniques of governing police in Queensland and Victoria. The theoretical tools to conduct this analysis are drawn from 'governmentality studies'. This refers to a broad grouping of theoretical scholarship concerned with the changing ideas - or 'political rationalities' - on how to govern some thing or some activity, and the underlying reasoning, justifications and ambitions contained within the practical tools or 'techniques' used to govern. Central to the thesis is an argument that a new politics of policing has emerged recently, one that extends the dyad of the old accountability - 'police powers' and 'external accountability' - to a pluralisation of accountability processes and structures. The thesis argues that governmentality studies offer new insights into ways of analysing the techniques for governing state police, increasingly shaped by the managerialisation of governing and embodying efforts to make police innovative, risk-taking problems-solvers. This is what I refer to as an open-ended normative project for re-making the entrepreneurial officer. However, a detailed examination of the development of governmental techniques for 'making up' the entrepreneurial officer indicates that such a governmental project is not implemented unproblematically. Nonetheless, the thesis concludes that the attempts to remake the entrepreneurial officer through the managerialisation of governing presents distinct possibilities for a new 'politics of policing' that fosters deliberative, reflective police practice within a new framework of police accountabilities.

Galloping through millennia : a multimedia examination of horses in the modern worldMathis, Sean Gregory 27 July 2011 (has links)
The horse has been an integral and ubiquitous element in the development of human civilization for centuries. However, in the last 150 years, its presence in and relevance to peoples’ daily routines has waned. What previous cultures used to comprehend and appreciate, modern technology-based routines have rendered nearly obsolete. Consequently, the perception of their legacy has been diminished, their nature misunderstood, and their virtues devalued. However, their immediate presence still affects humans on a visceral level.
Through a combination of three multimedia pieces and a written essay, I attempt to reveal various ways in which horses provide man with more than a means of transportation. By examining officers in Austin Police Department’s Mounted Division, an experienced horse trainer, and a licensed therapist who employs horses in her practice, I hope to dispel various misconceptions and reveal the rewards of shared company, beyond the utilitarian functions. Ideally, both parties stand to benefit from a proactive effort on behalf of the viewer to explore and better understand the connective tissue that still binds our two species. / text

The Influence of Social Environment on Children's Perception of PolicemenKlingel, Sarah C. 01 May 1971 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis was to examine children's perceptions of policemen as these are related to the social environment in which he lives; and to investigate the social class, sex, and racial influences upon their perceptions.
An oral picture test, consisting of 12 pictures, was administered to 39 fourth-grade children in two Ogden, Utah, public schools.
The findings of this study is that there is mixed support for the hypothesis that significant differences exist between middle- and lower-class children in their perceptions of policemen. Support was approached for the second hypothesis: there exist significant differences between males and females in their perception of policemen. However, because a borderline level of significance (.07) was determined, it is uncertain whether differences exist between the sexes in their perceptions of policemen. The third hypothesis--that there exist significant differences between Caucasian and non-Caucasian races in their perception of policemen--was not statistically supported.

trabalho e a conduta ético-profissional do policial militar baiano. Trata-se de um estudo
descritivo, cujo modelo de análise contempla o caráter multifacetado do trabalho, abrangendo
as dimensões ou facetas: centralidade, produtos ou resultados valorados do trabalho, normas
societais e atributos valorativos e descritivos.
policiais detidos, ocupando o trabalho a terceira posição.
Salvador

Genderové stereotypy u Policie ČR / Gender stereotypes in the Police of the Czech RepublicSCHMIDT, Lukáš January 2012 (has links)
This thesis highlights the issue of gender stereotypes in the Police of the Czech Republic - among policemen and policewomen who serve at the Regional headquarters of the Police in České Budějovice. The thesis also deals with the demands of the profession and the comparison of gender differences between men and women in this profession. In addition to a simple division of each part of the police and its structure, the history of gender issues is described in detail, as well as examples of stereotypical behaviour, its origins and causes. The thesis deals with the position of women in the society, both in the historical perspective and in the present time. Statistical data are listed here as well as and the numbers of police officers in service - men and women. The thesis focuses on a specific group of police employees - policemen and policewomen officers and police officer working in the town of České Budějovice. The gender issues are a very interesting topic. Differences between male and a female are not only physical, but the individuals of opposite sexes assess each other with the help of learned or acquired stereotypes that they brings from their original families. Gender stereotypes influence the lives of people in this society and they can be found in police staff as well. Considering the growing number of women within the Police of the Czech Republic, there are frequent conflicts between the two sexes. This paper discusses the ways in which the individual members of the opposite sexes perceive their counterparts. The way they are perceived in the emotional as well as the professional domains. The research was conducted using the method of a semantic differential by means of a questionnaire and 100 respondents, policemen as well as policewomen, took part in it.
