Uma investigação sobre as teorias de cidade mundial, cidade global, cidade pós-moderna e sua relação com a cidade de São Paulo / An investigation on the theories of the world city, global city, post-modern city and its relation with the city of São Paulo

Sousa, Rosangela Silva 19 February 2009 (has links)
This dissertation investigates the international and national literature concerning the theories of world, global and post-modern city, highlighting its relations with São Paulo Metropolis. For that, as theoretical resource, it was used the bibliographical research. Thus, it points out that the concepts of world city and global city do not present significant differences, it has been used by the authors depending on the preference of each one. Yet, the concept of post-modern city has a more restricted utilization, if it was compared with the previous terms. Mostly in the international literature, the concept of post-modern city presents an inclination for cultural phenomena approaches in the society. However, in the national literature, such concept is used just a little and, when it appears, it relates more to a pattern of urban planning which prioritizes the needs of hegemonic actors. This way, it was verified that there are two main forms to apprehend the world/global city concept. One of these forms was denominated diagnostic form, constituting the result of new content forms investigation of the contemporary city. And the other apprehension was denominated paradigm strategic planning form, which is related with the model of city that should be followed to acquire competitiveness in the globalization. The strategic planning is the operationalization of this model. Finally, it is highlighted that great part of the national literature, includes in the Geographical Science, considers São Paulo Metropolis a world/global city, as well as in the international literature. In this sense, several authors highlight its historicalgeographical context, and they point to, this way, a phenomenon specificity: its a world/global city of the capitalisms semi periphery. The international literature, in general, also considers São Paulo a world/global city. However, in this last case, few studies have been dedicated to establish relations with São Paulo, since they concentrate, above all, in the analysis of their local realities.

O imaginário de Fernando Pessoa: da educação cindida à educação sentida / The imaginary of Fernando Pessoa: from the divided education to the sensible education

Almeida, Rogério de 10 November 2005 (has links)
The thesis The imaginary of Fernando Pessoa: from the divided education to the sensible education investigates the symbolic universe of the works of Fernando Pessoa, analising his tree most important heteronymous Alberto Caeiro, Álvaro de Campos and Ricardo Reis -, besides poems signed by himself. After procedure a mythcritics of the mentioned work, one argue about his relationship with the education and its ethics results and effects, in a perspective of a post-modern landscape. The referential basis was founded in Antropology of the Imaginary, of Gilbert Durant, counting with important contributions of Edgar Morin, Michel Maffesoli, Gaston Bachelard, Georges Gusdorf, Mircea Eliade and Joseph Cambell, among others, and look a new epistemologic position, with the notion of anthropologic journey, coincidentia oppositorum and sensitive reason, based in the plurality of meanings organized by the myth. The aim is to understand the Pessoas mitopoiesis, his decentralizing in heteronymous and the mythics substracts of his work, pointing out how his poetic creation is related with an education of the imaginary, that makes the reunion of knowledges divided by the modernity.

Paranoid Epistemologies: Essays on Thomas Pynchon and the Scene of Disappearance

Raguz, Christopher 01 January 2019 (has links)
The following five essays are connected by their reference to a scene – imagined by the author Thomas Pynchon. The disappearance of historical cause, the subject, and the human constitute this epistemological scene. Each essay can be read without logically building off of any other – yet they form a wider assemblage of interpretative theory. These are fragments capable of recombination in any order. They shun systematization but welcome kinship. Pynchon's fiction is the substrate underlying each. Abstract machines of theorists thinking on similar wavelengths are used as catalysts in an effort to force a reaction – an attempt to transmute the stories of paranoid schlemihls into yet more paranoid epistemologies. How do we understand the degree to which we are organized by whatever systematizes? How do we relate to whatever organizes our knowledge, our identities? What, exactly, is playing us? These are the anxieties these essays share with Pynchon's characters and formulate the questions driving their theory. Call it the Post-Modern, the Post-Human, or any other Post, Pynchon anticipated its event horizon half a century before its more obvious implications made themselves clear. If we have passed fully over this horizon, figuring out where we are and what's going on has become a question of survival, and Pynchon's anticipation of our contemporary scene have become increasingly salient. These essays offer paranoid epistemologies for the age of disappearance.

Amid, Shanis January 2007 (has links)
<p>This study is based on interviews with six students from Stockholm that have shared their feelings/opinions about how they experience their identity as a student. The aim of this master’s thesis is to examine how the identity of students is constructed but also how the post modern society affects the life that the students are living. With a higher demand on education and responsibility of making the right decisions, the student’s main concern is not only her studies, but also the goal to succeed in her life. The result points out that the environment which the student lives in has an influence on how the identity develops. The identity has nothing to do with the actually fact that the student studies, but with how the student acts outside the university.</p>

Zander, Niclas January 2007 (has links)
In this paper Mona Hatoums installation Corps étranger is discussed via a post structuralized method based on associative and semiotic comparisons with vanitas, a post-modern self-portrait, and as a representative for modern visual art. The analyze touches upon pornography, science fiction and the quest for scientific conquest in outer and inner space. Theoretical references are Foucault, Freud, Lacan, Barthes, Dolar, Said and Virilio. Hatoum makes the observer a voyageur with the aid of the latest medical technology, endoscope, which gives her the opportunity to make an introvert self-portrait when she films her own throat and rectum. But at the same time she makes the portrait of us all. I interpret this as a fictious science with postcolonial ideas, and the reference to science fiction is close at range. Hatoum takes the role as the other, the woman or the stranger and might flirt with Jülich interpretation of Corps étranger as a sign of the visual cultures colonisation of the human body’s inside, that is a conscious reference to sexuality, ethics and the search for knowledge and power.

Where I am, There (Sh)it will be: Queer Presence in Post Modern Horror Films

McDougald, Melanie 17 July 2009 (has links)
This paper will consider the function of queer space and presence in the post modern horror film genre. Beginning with George Romero’s 1968 film Night of the Living Dead and continuing through to contemporary examples of the genre, the paper posits the function of the queer monster or monstrous as integral to and representative of the genre as a whole. The paper analyzes both the current theory and scholarship of the genre and through Lacanian psychoanalytic theory and queer theory offers a theory of how these theories can add to existing theory and scholarship.

Is Taiwan Ready for Post-modernism? A Comparative Study between Sweden and Taiwan.

Unal, Baris 05 July 2010 (has links)
This study examines changes in culture, economics and politics in Taiwan. Ronald Inglehart suggests that culture, economics and politics are mutually connected and these dynamics shape each other over time. Richard Florida argues that the driving force behind the transformation of a society¡¦s lifestyles, worldview and values is the rise of human creativity. In order to observe the changes over time, Inglehart and his colleagues have been collecting data through questionnaires (World Values Survey) in countries around the world. The purpose of this study is to measure and interpret the recent changes in Taiwan. Data collected from Taiwan is compiled in a unique database for analysis. This paper discusses the findings from this analysis and interprets the direction of change brought by intergenerational change. In addition, a cross-cultural analysis between Sweden and Taiwan is performed using the latest data collected from the two countries. Results suggest that Taiwan¡¦s shift is in the direction of Postmodernity. In addition, younger people are found to be more tolerant against different groups of people compared to the older generation.

The main goal of this work was: Analyze relations of Christians with the sacred in the discursive, practical utilitarian and spectacular conceptions of postmodern religiosity in a traditional Presbyterian Church Protestant Christian. The subject of this survey, which was qualitative, were the leaders of this religious institution, especially pastors and priests. We verify, by interviews and observations, which many followers of Presbyterian Church are involved or are contradictory in the acceptance of spectaculars practices and of utilitarian mysticism in its religious experience. In summary, they practice postmodern religiosity by the fact they think and live the religion as a consumer product. This influence of the massive religious about them has led us to see the frequent breaking of religious ethics established within the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Internal Constitution of Presbyterians from many followers of this institution. We start from the classic work of Weber (1998), the Protestant ethic and the spirit of capitalism and resorted to other theorists as Bauman (1997), Lipovetsky (2007), Frankl (1994 and 1997), Pierucci (2006), Prandi and Pierucci (1996), Eliade (1978 and 1992), Debord (1997) and others who have inspired us in this research.

Mladá poezie devadesátých let 20. století / The young poetry of the 1990s

PIORECKÝ, Karel January 2008 (has links)
The submitted work is oriented towards the writing of young poets who made their authorial debuts into literary communication in the 1990s. It regards the creation of authors unburdered by experience with the cutural politics valid before November 1989, and therefore creation born in the complicated context of the post-totalitarian cultural situation in which very different traditions were combined, including traditions which were banned from public communication during the previous decades. Parallel with this process the young poetry of the 1990s was born, whose character was inevitably marked by the period interest in everything from the past that had been until recently forbidden. The work begins with an independent chapter devoted to the literary-critrical reception of young poetry in the 1990s. Aspects analyzed include the language, framework of values, criteria and expectations which were valid for contemporary literary criticism of young poetry in the 1990s. It is demonstrated that the key question for young poetry to answer was the question of what traditions it should draw upon in the changed and democratized cultural and social conditions. Expectations were oriented in the direction of the past, towards a connection with one of the worthy and newly non-proscribed traditions, rather than towards a neo-avantgarde seach for new expressive registers. The subsequent three chapters follow three expressive currents within the framework of young poetry of the 1990s {--} spiritual poetry, objective poetry and imaginative poetry. Analytical and interpretational explorations of these three currents are linked by a common point of view, which is a focus on the lyrical subject and the form of its stylization. This methodological point of departure leans on Červenka's theory of the the lyric subject, to which is devoted the independent theoretically oriented chapter in the introductory part of the work. This unified focus of attention on the lyric subject made it possible in the conclusion of this work to create a typology of the form of the lyric subject and to follow basic tendencies characteristic for subjectivity in the young poetry of the 1990s. It was demonstrated that the young poetry of the 1990s was willing to accept the three traditional lyrical modes and expressive registers, but it removes from them any kind of programmatic and ideological accents. Traditional lyrical modes, after their transplantation into a post-totalitarian and also post-modern situation, stop being part of a master narrative and therefore their original metanarrative character is eliminated (from spiritual poetry the explicit confessionality is lost, imaginative poetry removes surrealistic revolutionarity and psychologism, the poetry of objectivity eliminates the pathos regarding necessary developmental change, with it this lyrical mode was applied by Skupina 42). Traditions therefore do not continue to evolve in their original forms, but are selectively used with a view to the current state of culture and thought.
