Kramer, Silvia January 2022 (has links)
This thesis examines ecotheology in liturgy. In light of an increasing awareness of the seriousness of the climate crisis and the consequences for all living beings on earth, it investigated whether and how communion prayers in handbooks of Church of Sweden from 1986 and 2017 have changed towards becoming more ecotheological. The focus of this study has been how God is described in the use of God's names and metaphors, God's relationship to the world, and God's mission to people. These were analyzed using a qualitative content analysis. Two metaphorical models, a monarchical model and a God-body model, taken from ecofeminist theologian Sallie McFague were used as the study's ecotheological approach. Through the analysis, it has been shown that the communion prayers have become more ecotheological. The prayers have more often features the metaphor of "creator" for God and descriptions of an actively creating, loving, and present God. God's relationship with the world now also includes the entire universe that God carries and fulfills. God meets people more often through the risen Christ and God's incarnation and salvation can also be interpreted as concerning of all creation. God's mission to human beings is more directed outward to the world, but there are still no explicit missions towards other living beings or all of creation.

An examination of Khmer prayer inside the Ta Prohm complex and its implications for Angkor management policy

Schissler, Eric J. January 2009 (has links)
This thesis addresses the question of how the Cambodia Tourist Police prohibition of local custodians has impacted Khmer prayer rituals inside Ta Prohm Complex (Angkor Archaeological Park, Cambodia). For centuries, people of Khmer ethnicity have engaged in religious activities inside Ta Prohm. Local Khmers have functioned as custodians of spaces of religious activity there. Custodians decorate and clothe statues, and place incense, offering plates, and other religious paraphernalia in spaces of religious activity. Observations demonstrate that Khmer prayer rituals occur in spaces that contain religious paraphernalia. The prohibition reduced the number of spaces that contain religious paraphernalia in Ta Prohm. This thesis is the first research to closely examine contemporary religious activities at Angkor. The thesis discusses how the prohibition may impact future Khmer religious activities inside Ta Prohm, and presents a potential solution for the reduced functionality of Ta Prohm as a Khmer temple that resulted from the prohibition. / Department of Anthropology

The corpus, consisting of 75 prayers of healing, is subdivided according to the popular name of the disease it proposes to cure. Among them stands out the eye, meat screened, midwife, shingles, choking and headache. The research approach is qualitative, as part of empirical knowledge for a theoretical analysis, requiring understanding and interpretation of phenomena - prayers - to society. The study of popular prayer is included in the study of discursive traditions, part of the recent historical and diachronic studies, notably the German Philology Pragmatics, which has as a guiding the study of language from social and historical context. The proposal of Discursive Traditions supports and justifies the linguistic variations - changes or stays - under which the traditions suffer over time. In that sense, this paper aims to present, from the basement defended by Coseriu (1979), Koch (2006), Kabatek (2006), Oesterreicher (2006) and Fonseca (2003), the characterization of oral sex "prayers Popular cure "Itabaianense the region as well as the linguistic variations of this tradition, taking as reference the Portuguese prayers. On the textual structure of prayers, is divided into invocation and offering fixed formula. From the linguistic point of view, the prayers are intended as oral genre popular with religious overtones, mainly by using the voice to achieve their communicative purposes, presenting a discursive formation consistent with the social order to which you propose - healing through spells. By comparing the prayers of Itabaiana region-PB with the Portuguese one realizes that the prayers keep its conservative nature, with little change in the structure of text, although there are variations and adaptations of language structures to snapshots of the communicative event in which the mourners are pre-arranged. Therefore, the study of popular shows and prayers conceives language as a historical reality closely linked to cultural and social life of speakers.

The methodology adopted was characterized by the qualitative approach of ethnographic base through the interaction with revelers and praying women during the annual feasting events of 2013, and 2014, in the rural area of the reported township, shifting focus to the rites that take place through prayers and life stories. The premise of the defence of this thesis is that the language of “Folia da Roça” preserves elements of the ibero-christian tradition, adapted to the local reality before the new conditions that take place amidst processes of urbanization and globalization. These influences were investigated by using the theoretic understructure of Ecolinguistics, a discipline that takes into consideration the study of language from the entanglement between the knowledge of Linguistics and Ecology, searching to describe interaction processes in which these categories manifest. Other guiding aspects of this research were: verify if the natural and social environments have any influence in the language of prayers; observe how ecclesiastic Latin is seized by those who speak rural Portuguese; investigate if values conveyed in the discourses of these protagonists are consistent with local wisdom or if they reflect patterns imported from the Iberian Peninsula during colonization; besides discussing and analyzing the memory of elders and their closer relatives in the prayers. By describing and analyzing the language of the feast, evidence is given of the adaptation and the resignification of official Catholic religious practice to the natural and social environments in which these protagonists are inserted. The religious ethic present there emerged as a result of the necessity of surviving in a historically hostile region, perpetuated by the interactions of its characters, transforming into an important and considerable manifestation of popular religiosity.
